Fallout | Fallout 4's factions were robbed

    Fallout 4's factions were robbed

    Posted: 12 May 2021 01:17 PM PDT

Let me just start by saying, if you like how Fallout 4 handled its factions I'm not saying you can't. I am stating that in my opinion, the factions have so much more potential that wasn't capitalized on.

Let me start with the Minutemen because this is the least controversial thing for me to say. The Minutemen quests are so bad. Go find a settlement, offer help, travel halfway across the map and kill people who wouldn't realistically attack said settlement because there is one that is closer to them, return and now they've joined the Minutemen. And if you don't side with any of the main three you get to blow people up. Cool.

I'm not going to talk about the building system because that has its own can of worms. That said, I wish there was more. Like, instead of every settlement being this one-two-person shack with some crops have actual communities you need to not only save but help equip and fortify. Track down munition caches and weapons. Decide on where minutemen recruits and resources go which might lose you favor with a settlement. Later on secure bases by wiping out raider factions and putting Minutemen there instead, slowly bringing order to the Commonwealth with farms and checkpoints all culminating in retaking Quincy in a massive battle, much like the one to take the Institute.

Now, the Institute. They are so mustache twirly the Enclave is going "These guys are one dimensional." The closest thing you get to an explanation of why they are evil assholes is "Because progress." Why though? Do you plan to rise from the ashes and build a technologically superior civilization? Are you trying to find a way to clean up the radiation? Was your initial purpose lost ala Peacekeepers from Farscape? Why?

Playing as the Institute should've included you tracking down sites with potentially valuable technology or information and securing them for the institute whilst also overseeing the development of research projects. Maybe even convincing its members to start helping the Commonwealth, by giving hardier plants and better weaponry. All this culminates with the Brotherhood, and you either shoot your way out or convince Maxon to eat a Snickers and go home. Or you continue down the evil route, abducting named characters and experimenting on them to make better weapons so that you can take whatever you want from the Commonwealth by force.

I'm going to skip the Brotherhood for a moment because I have some words for them. Railroad. Oh the Railroad. Morally speaking, they are only slightly below the Minutemen in the good guy department since they only care about one group of people. But they are morons. They exist to liberate Synths because they are living beings, okay good goal. Now we wipe their identity, essentially killing them, and sending them out to survive in the Wasteland. Oh, and if they are ever discovered to be a Synth they will be killed for being a Synth by people who are terrified of the Institute. I have no way of making the Railroad not suck, so maybe instead of them being a joinable faction just have them be in the Background or something because really they are broken by design.

And now the Brotherhood of Steel. If you do not like strong language then I recommend you go because I'm going to be dropping some F bombs in a minute.

We leave Fallout 3 with the Brotherhood either completely decimated or the strongest they've been in a while. I'm going with the latter, given that they have a fleet of Vertibirds and a fucking dirigible. Not only that, but the upper echelons of the East Coast Brotherhood (Owen, Sara, Rothchild, etc...) are all decent people, and the Lone Wanderer is also probably a decent person since the Brotherhood isn't a hole in the ground. They also seem to be attempting to reconnect with the Wasteland and be the good guys through project Purity. So how did this group of good boys go from that to a toaster Fucking computer diddling significantly stupider version of the National Socialist German Workers Party?!?!?!??!

Also, let's take the worst-case scenario and say the Sara and the Lone Wanderer died and that the Enclave used their orbital weapon to bomb the Pentagon. How the fuck then did the Brotherhood get the manpower to launch a full-scale, multi-front, war on the Commonwealth?!?!?! Did they completely abandon DC after all the blood, sweat, and steel they left there? Is Project Purity now in the hands of raiders and mutants?

The biggest thing I would immediately change about the Brotherhood is that they wouldn't be in the game. That or there would be a bigger time jump between 3 and 4 to justify this bullshit. And I would have more decisions involving the Brotherhood being in the Commonwealth, like them occupying Diamond City and maybe having to break up a riot or them wanting to wipe out Good Neighbor because Ghoul Nest. More moral decisions if they want to go the Nazi route.

I have more things to say that get very specific so if you want me to get more specific on things then just ask.

New Vegas continues to surprise me even years later with how much your character’s attributes affect dialogue

    Posted: 12 May 2021 10:09 AM PDT

I've played through FNV many times. I've never seen it all. Today's example: just played through For Auld Lang Syne. We've all played it, we know Moreno leaves and the only way to avoid fighting him is a speech check. What if you're not playing a charisma build? I guess you have to kill him, right??

WRONG! So this playthrough ive been on explosives, accidentally got too wild when I found a grenade machinegun and collateralled a couple NCR. Whatever, they shouldn't have been that close to the enemies and woulda made me pay taxes anyway. So I have wild child reputation with them.

Well in that final talk with Moreno, and there was a dialogue option I didn't recognize. Apparently, having wild child reputation with the NCR let's you say "I work against the NCR as much as I work for them. This is no different." And you can convince him to stay and help!

I love this game. I never thought my faction rep would affect dialogue outside of that faction, much less a reputation that is mixed and so rarely ever used!

TL;DR Having wild child reputation with the NCR gives an alternative solution to a speech check in For Auld Lang Syne

Fallout 4 raiders are actually really cool

    Posted: 13 May 2021 12:39 AM PDT

Seriously, just read through the wiki for raiders in fo4. More often than not, major raider bases have their own unique backstory and leaders. For example, there's this gang at Saugus Ironworks called the Forged that's formed its own cult. The leader makes new members go through these psychotic trials, like getting branded, feeding their friends/family to the forge, self-mutilation etc. Then there's Jared at Corvega Assembly Plant. He knew Mama Murphy growing up and she predicted that he'd become a raider. Now he's obsessed with the Sight and has been experimenting with chems to see if he can get it. The raiders that are attacking Preston at the beginning of the game are from Corvega, and their leader Gristle has a terminal entry about how he really wants to kill Preston so he can wear his cool hat. There's Red Tourette from the Federal Ration Stockpile, whose sister was kidnapped by the gang from Beantown Brewery and is being used to ransom food from the Stockpile. At Beantown, you can read on their leaders terminal about how the sister actually escaped and was killed. There's a place in downtown (can't remember what it's called but I think it's a stripmall of some sort) and one of the guys there has been writing poems.

A lot of their terminals get new entries when you kill one of the major bosses.

There are way more examples I haven't listed here but yeah, keep an eye out for that. I think having a DLC where you can become a raider yourself was a really good call.

Tried survivor mode and it's weird, like playing a whole new game

    Posted: 12 May 2021 11:58 PM PDT

Died over 15 times just in concord, gave sanctuary food, beds, water and a turret. Then i headed to DC

On My way to DC i found a legendary radroach (it still feels strange to be bellow lv10 and find legendary enemies) and found an incendiary double barrel shotgun.

Once i Made it into the city i rented a room in the duggout inn (i wish there was more to the bobrov brothers, because it looks like i'm gonna be seeing their faces regularly)

So i'm having fun, i just bailed Nick out of vault 114 and started traveling with Piper, but i need some advice because i'm dying so much it's insane.

So I just got ambushed by 6 deathclaws outside quarry junction

    Posted: 12 May 2021 09:18 AM PDT

Seriously, holy crap. I took out all the deathclaws in the quarry including the two alphas. I remembered the time I got killed in quarry junction at level 3 so to celebrate my victory I walked down the long 15 while listening to The Big Iron On His Hip.

And then, just as I enter the open area around Vegas 6 deathclaws show up and kill me. This taught me one thing; I might find many parts of this game easy, but deathclaws might stay terrifying forever.

Is it just me or is it downright ridiculous trying to find your way to goodneighbor? (Fo4)

    Posted: 12 May 2021 08:46 PM PDT

I keep getting lost and none of the roads and bridges lead in the right direction! When I think I'm going the right way I run into a bunch of super mutants or gunners or I end up going in circles. This is my 3rd character, how come I can't figure out a good path? Do I just have an awful sense of direction or has anybody else had this problem?

    Nuka World Factions

    Posted: 12 May 2021 06:40 AM PDT

Opening shot, for the complaints about how most of the Raiders in Fallout 4 were just "Generic Raiders"....

...Would it have foreshadowed Nuka World better if those groups had made an appearance in Fallout 4 vanilla? What I mean is, in New Vegas Joshua Graham is mentioned a bit but we only see him in Honest Hearts and Ulysses is referenced although we don't realize what those references mean until we see him in Lonesome Road.

If we'd run into low-level members of the Pack, Disciples and Operators in the Commonwealth would this have diversified the raiders in the game and given more of a pay-off when we go to Nuka World and met their Leaders?

Onto the Nuka World DLC itself, it's not the nicest thing to say but I've felt that Nuka World is like a piece of Copper: It's bright and shiny, pretty to look at but it's not very strong or worth that much. Would it have benefited from having more to it than "Help Raiders" or "Kill all the Raiders"? Because knowing that there are potential Good companions there (Cito, Oswald, the Protectron Sheriff) and hidden secrets (Bradberton an the Nuka Weapons) really could be used to create a bigger narrative IMO.

The Fallout 4 Chinese Stealth Suit doesn't do anything

    Posted: 12 May 2021 05:51 PM PDT

So I decided to get the Chinese stealth suit from the creation club since I loved in in Fallout 3, and it just doesn't work. The stealth field triggers when I'm crouching, but it might as well not be there because enemies just detect me as if it wasn't.

I tested it compared to the stealth boy, and it was much worse obviously, but I assumed that was just to make it not too overpowered. Then I tested it compared to just not wearing any armor at all, and the experiences were exactly the same.

Note that I have the level 4 sneak perk and about half of the covert ops manuals.

Is this a bug that can be fixed or is it just stuck being worthless like this?

    Ghouls and humans

    Posted: 13 May 2021 01:10 AM PDT

So, I've always felt weird about how in the Fallout universe ghouls are treated like something that's not human. Technically they're still human, just mutated humans. I guess I could understand why some normal humans would see then as monsters cause of their look and because of the feral ghouls, but even the ghouls themselves distinguish themself from the regular humans as if they'd accepted they're not. That could make sense because of the way they're treated by other humans who don't recognize them as humans, but that would make more sense if they didn't ever live as a regular human, but the thing is, all the ghouls were regular humans in their past. Many of them were born before the war, so they grew up as any other person, so it would make sense for them to interiorize their humanity, right?

In the case of super mutants it makes more sense to me, as many of them don't hold memories of their past lives, and believe themselves to be an evolved race (and other mutants such as centaurs can hardly be called human)

[New Vegas Discussion] Let's rant about Father Elijah, Christine, Veronica, and such!

    Posted: 12 May 2021 03:15 PM PDT

I'm sorry if this is very common, please let me know and I'll remove this. (Sorry for long post) Also, I'm on console bc I suck at life.

NO REAL SPOILERS IN THIS POST BC I'M NICE

I just wanna talk to some fellow fans about the asshole Father Elijah, and all the bullshit he did and put Christine and Veronica through. I never read into the wikis or videos, as I like to dive deep into the story myself and come up with my own percpective. So sorry if a lot of this has been mentioned in wikis or videos!

First off, it REALLY pisses me off that there's no way to take Christine back with you, or somehow bring her to Veronica to reunite. I've heard they intended to, but damn if that's not a massive story to leave out.

What's worse, even if you have experienced in the game all of Christine's story and remnants of where she was (OWB, DM, etc) and lived your whole game life with Veronica, there's no way to even tell one or the other, that the other is okay or where they are. You would think after meeting Veronica, you could tell Christine that she's ok, or vise versa. Maybe even somehow reunite them, or at least guide them to each other. Idk, those kinds of things really frustrates me.

I know the Auto Doc incident with Christine is not Elijah's doing (I won't spoil who did that bullshit) but everything else he put her through. Knowing damn well who she was, he still basically enslaved her. I mean obviously she was in his way, but still wtf dude.

ALSO CHRISTINE IS A FUCKIN BADASS TO SURVIVE TWO AUTO DOC DISASTERS (read up on OWB & DM if you don't know this), but the fact she lost her memory is also frustrating, bc even if you KNOW what's going on, like your character actually experienced everything, you can't remind her or tell her anything.

Granted, when you actually meet her and she's mute, you don't really get to know her name from her, so I just tell myself the courier just didn't realize that was her until it was too late or something.

Now to the asshole, Father Elijah. I hate this guy, I know he has reasons, but damn all the bullshit he put Christine and Veronica through, not to mention the whole damn Brotherhood and everyone else he fucked over. It's seriously fucked up! I'm so glad I could do what I did at the end of Dead Money DLC. When going through OWB my 2nd time, I'm realizing all these things.

That dickass camped out by Little Yangtze (forgot spelling), testing out those bomb collars for "future use" and basically using the clothes off of decapitated ghouls to dress his minions in Sierra Madre. They're the same exact outfit! And sure, the yangtze prisoners were ghoulified, but damn they deserve a better death than what Elijah brought them.

Let's not even talk about Helios (okay fuck it let's talk about it)

Idk, these things pissed me off about that part of the story, so much left out, but so much to taste. It's just not fair! I keep finding more and more on my 2nd playthrough, and it's both satisfying and also fucking frustrating.

Anyone have an opinion/perspective to share? Or wanna rant with me and aimlessly curse bethesda/obsidian (idk whoever did that bullshit basically) for being douches?

TL;DR Father Elijah is a super fuck head. We should've been able to reunite Christine and Veronica. Christine seriously went through some crazy shit, all bc of Elijah. Other venting stuff.

    Let's vent about it!

    Posted: 12 May 2021 06:35 PM PDT

I only have three games (Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas and Portal 2) and I only have a 360, so I bout a fallout 3 and it just came today. Haven't started it. Are there any decisions I need to make in the early game (like character creation?) that you think I should know? I'm not sure if there even is a character to customize.

The Workshop Rearranged mod may have moved it to some other place. Can someone tell me where the TV is in Fallout 4 with Workshop rearranged mod?
