How is being a courier a feasible job?

The wastes being as inhospitable as they are, how can this profession be anything but total death for the people in it? Even going to the next settlement over would be incredibly dangerous.

Is it more of a job in 'tamed' lands like NCR held territory for example? How would one go about hiring a courier?

How did Caesar hold the dam against the N.C.R. at the first battle of the Hoover Dam?

I get that Caesar conquered everything from Colorado to Arizona to Nevada to the edge of California, but the N.C.R. grew for two hundred years, building military strategy and gaining technology. I personally find it unlikely that Caesar was ever able to push on the Dam in the first place, let alone contain the N.C.R. in a stalemate.

I'm doing a fallout dnd campaign set in minnesota 65 years after the war. My question is basically this, how long would the nuclear winter last in this region, or just in general around the US?

(Spoiler) Is the Vault Dweller a real member of [X Faction] in the Vanilla Campaign?

Throughout the main story you end up joining many different factions to finally gain nuclear codes. To me this was "fine" cause the factions got wiped out and you're just scavenging in a way.

That is, until the Enclave. MODUS very much exists and it appears that your membership in the organization does as well.

I don't really like the Enclave. And I try to play a good character. And I feel like I HAD to join them to do the story. Am I really an Enclave member?
