Is Mr. House ever mentioned by name before New Vegas?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 05:33 AM PDT

I was wondering if House was specifically created just for New Vegas or if he was ever mentioned before. He's mentioned briefly by Deacon in 4 but I haven't played enough 3 to know if he's ever brought up and I haven't played any 1 or 2 at all. I mean by name as well, like obviously he's always been around in canon but was there a point before New Vegas where he was an actual character and not just the unnamed creator of RobCo with no personality?

So I went onto A.I. Dungeon and tried to recreate the story of Fallout 1:

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 12:45 PM PDT

"You are a Vault Dweller sent out to find a new water chip for Vault 13. You have been assigned to find a new water chip.

A rat comes out from the darkness and asks "what is it you want"? You reply "Im looking for a water chip".

We get the water chip and the Vault is saved."

Thats probably as good as it gets with A.I. Dungeon

P.S. i didnt know what to put as a flair so i put original content

Does the Player Character dress enemies when taking their clothes?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 07:57 PM PDT

I was playing Fallout 3 and realised how strange it is to kill a Raider, wearing ill-covering armour, through which you can clearly see their chest, and when you take the armour they are now wearing a neat little vest and underwear.

Actually, very clean vest and underwear, which is really unusual for what is essentially a post-apocalyptic gang of disorganized meth-heads. I can't imagine they have laundry day.

Obviously, this post isn't to be taken literally, I just like to think the Lone Wanderer is a total prude and happened to steal a huge surplus of underwear on the way out of Vault 101 so that they never have to see any "naughty parts".

Fallout 76 deserves to be given a second chance by most people

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 03:27 AM PDT

I like many others heard about the controversy surrounding the game at release, which led to me subsequently holding off on playing it until early this month (April 2021). And can I just say that the game beats it out of the park in every aspect. Sure you might encounter a bug or two every now and again but the addition of fully fledged NPCs throughout the game world makes it feel so much more alive than what it once was. The mountains of Appalachia make for a very challenging landscape in that you are not just walking across flat lands like in Fallout 4. Given that and that there are multiple regions across the game world that give diversity to the game in terms of environments and enemies (the Ash Lands for example, which require you to wear a gas mask in case of toxic air). Please if you haven't played it yet, give it a try, it is worth it.

p.s. it's on Xbox Game Pass for free to download if you own that

What happens to Europe and the rest of the world after 2077?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 05:38 AM PDT

Hello! On r/falloutlore, questions like this are banned, so I'm asking here.

Is there any cannon material as to what happened to places like Europe an the Middle East after the nuclear war? Do they still have bastions of civilisation, like America? Or are they just wastlands, populated solely by feral ghouls and other irradiated creatures?

When it came to vaults that were never opened like vault 101 how were they able to store the the dead bodies over the years?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 09:59 PM PDT

I always wondered that was there some opening where they buried it into the soil burn the bodies or found some way to decompose or is there just some room of dead bodies in the vault?

FO3 Late game is very grindy?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 12:52 AM PDT

Playing through FO3 for the first time. Playing on PC with a few mods. I've completed the main story and am now working through the dlc stuff. I'm around lvl 24 and it's feels like recently a lot of enemies like ghouls and super mutants have become bullet sponges! I was feeling strong getting critical sneak attacks and just blowing enemies away up until recently. Now every fight has become a slog and is really draining the fun out of the game, and draining all of my ammo stock! Any thoughts?

Has anyone else saved the two NCR Rangers with combat knives that die trying to kill Legate Launius

    Posted: 24 Apr 2021 09:39 PM PDT

I did for the first time, it took a 100 level gun skill, combined with "this machine" (M1 Garand rewarded to you by Contreras from McCarran), loaded with armor piecing bullets, I quickly ran towarsds him without initiating conversation and aimed at his head with vats, afterwards the two Rangers said "Im glad that's over", then I killed his guards near the tent and finished by speaking to Oliver.

I wonder if they would've gotten war hero status along with the courier? what they did is the equivalent of a Rebel Soldier from Star Wars trying to kill Darth Vader in a melee battle, considering how they shown up without guns they must've used a lot of ammo getting to the Legates tent, making those Rangers the unseen heroes of a mostly unseen story.

You don't actually have to complete Reunions for the BOS to show up

    Posted: 24 Apr 2021 09:37 AM PDT

So, I'm doing the "Last voyage of the USS Constitution" quest, and I was sent to Fort Hagen to recover the turbopump bearings. This seemed odd to me, as the quest marker pointed me to the elevator that you usually use at the end of Reunions, and which is locked behind a security gate until that point, and cannot be accessed from the outside. (Note: On this playthrough, I have not completed the Reunions quest). I thought about going in the normal way, but then I remembered that I'd already used noclip a few times in this playthrough, so I thought "what the hell" and noclipped through the security door and opened it.

Lo and behold, the BOS airship shows up, and I get the associated quest to investigate it.

Very interesting thing, that completing the quest isn't actually what triggers the BOS airship, but rather opening the security gate at the end.

Edit: I managed to skip over a large portion of the main storyline. Very nice

Edit #2: I kinda wish I hadn't gone and immediately killed Kellogg, because I'm now wondering what would've happened if I tried to proceed with the story despite Kellogg still being alive

(Fo4) I don't understand Curie's beef with the Art vs Art encounter

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 07:20 PM PDT

For those unfamiliar with the encounter, you come across a man named Art holding an identical version of himself at gunpoint. Both of them will try to convince you the other is a synth, but the one holding the shotgun is the real human.

Obviously, if you let the human Art kill the synth Art, Curie dislikes it because you just sanctioned murder.

If you get Art to admit to being a synth and then let the human kill him, she still dislikes it for some reason?

If you get human Art to lower the gun, the synth attacks no matter what. Curie likes that you convinced him to drop it, buuuuut then if you attack the Synth at all she dislikes it even though he straight up admits it and starts trying to kill both the human and you.

If you get the synth to confess and then the human to lower his gun, the synth will be on your side and try to kill the human. Curie dislikes if you attack the synth here.

So the literal only way to not have Curie dissaprove is to make the human lower his gun, and then pray he beats the synth in a 1 v 1 (which he did when I tried it, not sure if he usually wins or not.) The hell is her deal? Dude admits he's out to murder this human and she gets mad at you for stopping him. Also, spoilers for her quest, this is before she becomes a synth herself. Still a full robot at this point. Is it just a bug? I hear this encounter is glitchy.

I was thinking about Danse and his story in Fallout 4... Lemme know what you guys think.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 02:36 AM PDT

Okay... So I just had a really radical (crazy) idea. What if Danse is the Synth from Fallout 3?

Bear with me: What if the canon ending to that side quest was the lone wander lets the synth go rather than return him to the Dr. Zimmer, and after Zimmer leaves, the Harkness (the synth) has another mind wipe and facial reconstruction, and in order to avoid the institute, he joins the Brotherhood of Steel as Paladin Danse, where he serves until we meet him in the commonwealth in Fallout 4 and discover his actual identity? That would explain why Danse didn't know he was a synth and it'd help explain how he got to the rank of Paladin and served under the BoS without anyone knowing he was a synth. The easiest way I can explain the synth designations being different between the games is that maybe Bethesda forgot what they made Harkness's synth designation in F3 and just made a new one for F4.

NV, Is there a mod to fix VATs?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 10:39 PM PDT

Sometimes for no good reason VATs takes like 2-5 seconds to let you do anything, it just glitches out and freezes. You cant exit VATs, cant use VATs, your just stuck. Is there not a mod to fix this annoying glitch? Does anyone know why this happens?

Is Three Dog based on Señor Love Daddy from ‘Some Like It Hot’?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 02:19 AM PDT

I was rewatching SLIH and noticed that the characters have similar inflections in their speech patterns, and also generally say things that sound like they could have been written for either character interchangeably. Señor LD even howls at one point, the similarities are just so prominent.

Wondered if anyone else had noticed this or if I'm just going crazy lol?

Added a couple of links for anyone who's interested in the comparison.

The difference in perception of the synths post-NF

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 01:00 AM PDT

I noticed that after you beat the game using the Nuclear Family ending, the people that work in the Institute, particularly the Synths, they don't call the SS Father/Mother, but oddly they used to call Shaun Father. Later on when I went to Diamond City, I noticed that the primitive (less intelligent) first generation Synths refer to the SS (if it's Nora) as Mother but the smarter new generation of Synths do not refer to her as Mother. So why is it that the majority of the Synths of the institute do not call Nora Mother but they did used to call Shaun Father while the primitive ones (first gen) they call Nora Mother, seems like they are the only ones who state this. Why the newer gen synths and the people working at the institute don't refer to the SS using this term?

Do you think we'll ever get a Fallout game that goes into more detail about Vault Tec?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 01:13 PM PDT

Or have they obfuscated things so much that even the ones in charge of Fallout lore don't even know why Vault Tec did what they did and what else they did?

I'm just curious what others think, I'd love to find out exactly what went on but I wonder if they don't plan to 'reveal' it because it could remove the mystery, the problem is the longer they leave it the more complicated it gets and the harder it will be to come up with an answer that fits.

Was there ever a reference to chernobyl in fallout?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 12:02 PM PDT

I've watched the HBO mini series about the chernobyl disaster and I've wondered if fallout ever made any nods to it? I know it took place in the 80s and it was outside the u.s. but with all the power plants in 76 I'm surprised I haven't stumbled upon an elephants foot (the highly radioactive goo from chernobyl).
