What kind of info would the Wasteland Survival Guide have in it?

I had this cool idea where the Wasteland Survival Guide could serve as the UI interface for choosing perks in Fallout games.

How do you guys think a Wasteland Survival Guide in the world of Fallout would be organized and what kind of info would go in it?

Obviously, we can use Moira's dialogue from FO3 as an outline, but there's bound to be more perks and skills that would fit outside the parameters of the WSG.

I'm thinking of it as a combination of the SPECIAL book, Vigor Counter Machine and an actual aid book you carry around that you can read every time you accumulate enough experience points. You'd have to flip through the pages like the books of Skyrim and there'd be a table of contents where players could maybe alter special points somewhat like in Fallout 76.

The player could then flip through chapters on Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck where different entries describes the different techniques and skills players can learn or Perks.

But then there could be misc. sections that address more than the players prowess, but the wasteland itself, and how to understand it, respect it, fear it and thrive in it.

Maybe sections dedicated to each type of enemy in the Waste that can teach you about the most effective ways to deal with them and give you perks to stand a better chance against them.

Maybe a section on the plants and there potential effects or uses.

Something about creating shelters and dealing with environmental effects

Something dealing with thirst and hunger.

But then, other books could serve as gateways for entire new skill paths or specializations such as a power armor training manual, or a Big Book of Science could help the player become truly sophisticated in chemistry, unlocking better crafting items and stuff, or the Covert Training Manual could open up perks that would allow the player to become legendary in stealth skills.

If other books are used as specialty training, then the WSG would be a general skills manual mixed with a Survivalism specialty.

I think this could be a cool way to orient Fallout games or mods that make more sense from a post apocalyptic RPG standpoint in terms of leveling up and becoming more powerful in the Wasteland and it's lore friendly as a bonus. What do you think?

East Coast Super Mutants have a crazy range

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 03:53 PM PST

***Please know this depends entirely on the assumption that Far Harbor Super Mutants are the same as Institute ones which seems to be the general consensus among fans. If that's not the case, then this whole post is basically irrelevant.

Ok so FO4 Super Mutants originate from MIT and the distance from MIT to Portland, to Belfast, to Bar Harbor is ~217 miles.

Super Mutants can also be seen in Nuka World which is likely based off of Six Flags New England which is ~81 miles from MIT.

Now with that data (and assuming the Glowing Sea isn't that big of a barrier) they have a radius that goes into Canada to the North and can reach past NYC in the Southwest.

So it also gives some truth to that piece of BoS dialogue about being shot at by Super Mutants on city rooftops on the way to Boston from DC.

Now this is some nice data but it brings up the question of if the Vault 87 and Institute Super Mutants ever made contact with one another. The range of the Institute Mutants doesn't reach DC, yet they have been around for 108 years. The Vault 87 Mutants, on the other hand, have been roaming around for ~200 years. Meaning if the Institute mutants have gone that far in 108 years, how far have the Vault 87 Mutants gone in ~2x that timespan?

***Also let me know if any of my info is wrong, I've never played FO3 and I'll edit any of the incorrect info.

Why don’t people like the ncr

What real life political party can they be compared to. Do they have more high ground?

What crops do the NCR grow back home?

In the Vault Dweller's Official Cookbook, it states that cabbage is one of the crops that the NCR grows. I wonder if there is anything else?

Does anyone know where the Far Harbor super mutants come from?

I got curious and did some measuring about the range of super mutants, but my data hinges on the assumption that the Far Harbor super mutants originate from The Institute. Is there any explanation for where they come from?

Any lore behind why fo4 deathclaws don’t really have nests like in other games

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 10:56 PM PST

In fo4 deathclaws seem to roam around as loners a lot more and don't really seem to have a home like in other games (Old olney, promontory, vault 13) but fo4 deathclaws don't seem to have a home or really hunt in packs, are they a different sub species of deathclaw or something else considering deathclaws are usually pack animals.
