An argument in favour of the Children of Atom. Possible FO4 and F04:FH Spoilers.

So in my opinion, the CoA aren't an overly unreasonable group. Yes, they do admittedly do some bad things, and that much I disagree with, but with regards to their beliefs, and why the Sole Survivor in FO4 would join them, i'd like to make a few points. Of course these are just personal opinions.

    1) You could argue that the 'purpose' of religion is to justify or rationalise the world in which a devotee finds themself. In the case of the CoA, they have chosen to believe that the nuclear energy of the great war has birthed the new world they find themselves in, helping them to find a sense of peace with the nuclear hellscapes they inhabit.

    2) Immunity from Rads in certain people could quite easily be seen as Atom's favour, in a world where education is incredibly rare and the advanced science of radiation and mutations is all but lost to most. Also, if someone uses energy (say heat for example) to make a fire, they have created something that can help sustain life. Considering the vast energy of a nuclear blast, I think the idea of 'Division' isn't too strange from their point of view.

    3) The sole survivor (going into FH spoilers), having no prior interactions with the idea of Atom or his disciples, upon drinking from the sacred spring on the island is met with an otherworldly vision of the Mother of the Fog. I think considering the immense psychological strain the Survivor is under, to feel 'chosen' and that the destruction of the world as they knew it has in fact been an act of creation, joining the CoA is quite an understandable coping mechanism, especially if the Survivor was spiritual or religious.

Also, just a personal theory, but do you think it could be possible for the sole survivor (if they become the Inquisitor with the Far Harbor CoA) to be worshipped as a prophet of Atom as he witnessed the Great War, and the sheer power of the bombs?

Just my thoughts, I'm eager to hear yours in the comments! Hope you're having a good day, and of course, "Glory to Atom!"

What happens after you help Captain Zao? What would Captain Zao find if he goes back to China?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 05:33 PM PST

There is a Yangtze submarine with Captain Zao in it. There is an option to help him get power to the submarine by giving him a dampening coil and removing the warhead.

What would Captain Zao find if he returns to China?

Did the Fat Man see actual combat in China?

The only terminal in Fort Strong states that the weapon was made in 2076-2077, while advertisements about it appeared in the Sole Survivor's TV minutes before the Great War. So did the army ship it in time? And if not then how did it go to places like Vegas and Appalachia?

    Fallout Fandom wiki canon/non-canon presentation

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 03:10 AM PST

The fallout wiki has changed a lot over the years but one constant has been internal struggle over how non-canon information is presented.

While other fandoms, like Star Wars, clearly separate the canon from non-canon, our little wiki likes to blur the line so everything is condensed into a confusing narrative.

Behind the scenes sources, like art books or the Fallout Bible, have been woven into the "Background" narrative rather than placed in their appropriate "Behind the Scenes" sections. This has produced unusual results, such as weapons being listed as separate entities due to a model redesign taken far too literally (see 10mm pistol fallout 4).

As a little project, I adjusted the formatting on an article that was primarily sourced from non-canon behind the scenes information (Fallout Bible). I would like to know r/FalloutLore's opinion on readability before I do the Lord's work.

Is this information clear in describing that these behind the scenes events are not yet included in the Bethesda narrative continuity? How can this information be better explained?

I see many hot headed debates over terms like "semi-canon", previously used by the wiki to describe "canon until until retconned" information. This is troubling because Bethesda had already confirmed these sources as non-canon back in 2006 - they're not included in the narrative and are subject to being cannibalized for a new title.

It's fine to have your own headcanon opinion on what may still logically fit into the timeline, we all do it. My point is, is that the wiki should not.

Did pre-war things that happened in real world happened in fallout universe?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 10:14 PM PST

(Sorry for the grammar mistakes, English isn't my native language) In fallout NV we see House, Gomorrah, Silver rush, Ultra-Luxe etc. Those were inspired by real world locations and people from Las Vegas in 60s. So did Howard Hughes exist? If so, does this mean House is some sort of his fan who copied his personality? Did Golden nugget casino from real life exist in fallout universe? So Silver rush is some kind of its copy, since it was established only in 2071? The same applies for other casinos and places. Just curious.

Why does the Enclave radio exist?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 10:24 AM PST

If the enclave perceive any radiated life forms, whether mutant, human, etc, As mutants and impure, why do they tell the wasteland that they should like them through the eye bots and radios, if they hate all irradiated life. Hell, if you side with Eden and poison the water; most of the capital wasteland is killed (lorewise, anyway.) So why does it exist?

How canonically big was the New Vegas Strip actually supposed to be?

Also if there are more casinos how do the three families manage them? Or are they independent.

Is it ethical to date a synth character in Fallout 4 when playing as the Sole Survivor? (Spoilers)

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 07:42 PM PST

In Fallout 4, assuming you're not using mods that allow you to assume a new identity, your son's DNA was used to create Gen 3 synths. He's so integral to the creation of Gen 3 synths that they straight up call him Father. Because his DNA is 50% your DNA, is it ethical to have a relationship with a synth? Or is his DNA irrelevant assuming most human DNA is shared between humans?

How much of fallout tactics is actually cannon?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 04:02 PM PST

I wish to run a fallout wasteland warfare campaign with elements from fallout tactics but I only want to use cannon lore. Can any one explain to me wich parts of tactics are cannon.
