Posted: 23 Feb 2021 11:27 PM PST I hope you guys aren't sick of posts like this, because this is my ideal fallout setting would be the Pacific Northwest. I think the PNW would be an interesting setting because it's so different from the landscapes we're accustomed to in the Fallout series. Rather than a vast empty desert upon which nothing grows, the wasteland of this game would be verdant forest teeming with mutant life. This landscape is inhospitable to humans, and as such what people remain stay close to cities. Large population centers, genuine cites, make up the vast majority of human settlement. In this fallout there are cities, and then there is wasteland, there is almost no non-urban human dwelling. What few towns fight through their daily hardships in the dense forests have become insular and entrenched in their strange ways, hostile to outlanders and making pacts with forces deep in the forest. *The Forest* is the dominant wasteland terrain in this game, acting as the open desert in earlier instalments. The trees and soil are all irradiated, so that even being in these forests gives the player some dose of radiation. Because of this few venture into the woods, and few know what tread upon the glowing moss. The only true city in this part of the map is Victoria. Once a thriving trade community, Victoria has gone silent. No one knows what has become of Victoria or her people, but the answers may be borne on the voices that carry through the trees. The most dangerous part of the game world, comparable to FO4's Glowing Sea, is the Olympic Peninsula. Already intensely rugged before the war, *the peninsula* is a hostile land of nuclear jungle and otherworldly forces. Among the high peaks, and in the deep glens, bizarre and terrible monsters tread, and to venture there is a fools errand. While the west of the map is dominated by inhospitable wilderness, the east of the map is where the cities of game lay. A part of Fallout I've always loved is that the communities feel like places people actually live in. People go to bars, eat in restaurants, and generally do more than just survive. In the far south of the map we have Portland. Portland is the largest of the Oregon city states, many of whom have already joined the NCR. Portland's status as an independent entity is contentious, as many see joining the NCR to be the surest route to true security. North of Portland we have Cascadia, a lose confederation made up of the cities of Tacoma, Everett, and Seattle. This confederacy is loosely connected politically, but pools its resources towards a singular navy. This navy's main purpose is to repel the pirate attacks which originate from the lawless islands of Puget Sound, mainly the San Juan Islands. In the far north of the map there is Vancouver, a ghost city razed by the United States during the annexation of Canada. The remnants of the Washington state ferry system make up an essential part of the Cascadian economy. Transportation via these ferries is much more efficient than driving caravans along broken roads, but is also more dangerous. These massive boats act as both cargo ship and dreadnought. I'm unsure what the central conflict would be, but I think the general world is fun and weird in a way that works well with the grim setting of Fallout. I think some a dense forest would be a welcome change after a series that has fixated on sand. And if for no other reason, radioactive orcas eating you if you're stupid enough to fall off the boat [link] [comments] |
Headcanon: Melee makes sense in New Vegas because everyone is a mutant Posted: 23 Feb 2021 07:50 AM PST Remember that FEV, radiation, and god knows how many other horrible mutation-happy gribblies have been marinating in the world for the past two centuries, and stuff like the Legion not getting insta-wrecked by the NCR and actually pushing them off the Dam at first Hoover makes a lot more sense. If we assume that a lot of the population has developed into a low-grade super soldier who can, at minimum, take a couple bullets to somewhere that would kill a normal human and be generally fine with some first aid, stuff like the Legion charging NCR MG nests and actually surviving makes a lot more sense. EDIT: To clarify, not claiming the Legion is exclusively melee. But the fact that half to a third of Legion I've fought in the game prefer trying to murder me with sharp object rather than bullets points to melee being a common-ish strategy. EDIT 2: Holy crap this blew up. [link] [comments] |
Shooting the damn cymbal monkey Posted: 23 Feb 2021 01:41 PM PST Does anyone else automatically shoot that stupid monkey before it gets a chance to start making noise? It's not even about stealth. I just hate that thing. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Feb 2021 06:01 PM PST For me it would be the first time stepping out of the vault in Fallout 3. I felt so damn alone, vulnerable, and overwhelmed by the sheer size of the world. I was actually a little bit scared. [link] [comments] |

It continues to bother me to this day how short the pre-war opening of Fallout 4 was. Posted: 23 Feb 2021 08:38 AM PST I like Fallout 4, I really do. But if there's one aspect that I thought was a seriously missed opportunity with it, and that was kinda wasted, was the opening 10 minutes of the game, set before the war. Look, I love the idea, that we get to experience what life was like before the nuclear apocalypse. To me, this is a part of the franchise that I would love to see further expanded on, whether it be life in America, the Resource Wars, etc. But in my opinion, the opening section of Fallout 4 does a poor job of really exploring this idea. For one, it's just really short. Having 10 minutes before everything goes to hell and you need to rush to the Vault is not enough time to expand on the characters of Nate/Nora or to really get a sense of what life is like for people in pre-war America. Everything just goes by way too fast; you make your character, can explore the house, and then like a minute later the Vault-Tec rep is there and you're giving yourself a name and your SPECIAL and in less than five minutes the nukes are going off and you're running to the Vault (how did you and your family get access that fast when apparently you've been ignoring the rep for a while now??). I'm sorry, but this is just not enough time for what they're trying to do here. Second, what they do explore in the opening is frankly not that interesting. I mean, it's just you, your wife, and your newborn in your house for a few minutes along with your house robot. I'm not saying that having this be the focus of the segment is inherently bad, but it's IMO the least interesting thing they could focus on pre-war. It also feels like tonal whiplash when you compare it to the opening cutscene. That cutscene talks about how things are falling apart, the hell of war that's been happening between the US and China; it's made very clear that life is becoming worse for everyone, especially in the US. And yet, when we actually go into the pre-war gameplay section, it's nothing but cheeriness and sunshine. Sure, the Vault-Tec rep makes mention of the possible nuclear war, but it's treated as more like "It definitely could happen", and almost nonchalantly. It just feels like such a strange choice, and it ties back to the issues of how short it is. Honestly, I don't have a perfect solution for what could have been done better with the opening. But I think that how it was presented does a poor job of making me really care about my significant other/child and convey how bad the pre-war US/world has gotten until literally the exact moment the bombs fall. What song should be the “Famous Fallout Song” for Fallout 5 Posted: 24 Feb 2021 12:38 AM PST Every Fallout game has had the "Famous Fallout Song", Fallout 3 had "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" and 76 had "Country Roads" So what should be next, I personally think that "Buddy" by Willy Nelson is the best option, I'd love to see other ideas! Did Mr. House have a concrete reason for filling up Vault 21 Posted: 23 Feb 2021 05:47 PM PST Was this actually explained in the story? I found a lot of very reasonable takes regarding this matter, but it seems as though that none of them were actually set in stone. EDIT: Puns definitely intended [link] [comments] |
Microsoft will reportedly hold a Bethesda event next month. Posted: 22 Feb 2021 02:02 PM PST https://www.trueachievements.com/n44735/microsoft-bethesda-xbox-showcase Cross your fingers. I would be happy if they even mention the Fallout franchise. At least that would mean that someone in the company at least has it in mind. [link] [comments] |

What mistakes do new players tend to make? (aside from picking up literally everything on sight) Posted: 23 Feb 2021 07:12 AM PST edit: by picking up everything on sight I meant that at the beginning you don't know what's worth picking and what isn't, so you end up with a lot of junk that you don't know if you should sell or not and you'll get to your carey limit quickly, which just complicates everything, besides there's junk that isn't worth any caps anyway (and will only clog up your inventory) [link] [comments] |

Fallout New Vegas crashes when I do anything involving saves Posted: 23 Feb 2021 07:33 PM PST A while back on my Xbox one I bought Fallout New Vegas because I'd heard good things about it etc but stopped playing pretty soon because I was to invested in other games to really play it. But recently, when I upgraded to a series s, I started playing again because I'd finished my other games. I quickly fell in love and started playing a lot, until yesterday when I was messing around in the strip and my game crashed right as I went into another part of the strip. I figured oh well it's an older game hence a little glitchier and thought it would be fine, but when I reopened the game and clicked continue, it immediately crashed. Screen went black, that weird repeating audio sound played until I exited out of the game and quit it. I figured ok another crash so I'll load my previous save but no. As soon as I opened my load menu the game went black, noises, had to exit out of the game again. It was then that I realized my save had corrupted and I figured welp that sucks I'll have to make a new save file, and for the first little while, things were great. Woke up in doc Mitchell's house, named my character, etc but as soon as I moved, crash. Then I said screw it and deleted my entire games progress. But as soon as I logged back on, I noticed the continue button was still active so I clicked it and my character was inside a casino and I could do everything as normal so I decided to save to check if it was back to normal but as soon as I clicked save, crash. Same would happen when I tried to load. So this time I made sure my entire game save was gone by going into the manage game tab and repeated delete all data until it said no saved data yet, and I finally thought I'd done it until I opened up the game and it immediately redownloaded my data from a backup or something. I can find literally nothing that works, any time I try to access anything to do with saved the game crashes, so I'm essentially limited to looking at the main menu. Please if you know of anything I can do to get it to work tell me because I was super invested in the story and really looking forward to beating the game. Thanks in advance for any help! Best armor combos to outfit my settlers? Coolness is really all that matters. Posted: 23 Feb 2021 06:36 PM PST I'm trying to outfit my settlers in a standardized uniform, at least for the guards, to make them look bad ass. Ive had them currently wearing gas masks with goggles, slicker hats, metal chest piece, with sturdy leather everything else, and army fatigues. I'm a big fan of the wrapped cap and gas mask look, but they're just so damn hard to get. [link] [comments] |
Is downloading mods for FONV the same as Skyrim? Posted: 24 Feb 2021 04:51 AM PST I was watching a video on how to download mods for FNV. I was wondering if downloading mods was the same for skyrim? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Feb 2021 04:43 AM PST I am looking into doing my seconds run as a melee build. I am doing my first run through, as most will, using a range of guns, grenades and an axe. I was wondering if there community had any suggestions on my build plan and how I might get around wall and ceiling turrets without using bullets, shells, cells, etc. Big guy, freezing process did something to his brain, but grew out his hair. Gets out of stasis, finds he has a taste for rad roaches and mole rats. Likes hitting things, scraps together some armor, a cute little woof woof and eventually finds the new world of drugs. Like any good addicted murder hobo, he wanders the wastes looking for chems or money to buy chems. Bats, boards, and sledge hammers are cheap, leaving more money for that next high. Guns and ammo are sold for more money. Until merchants are found, guns can make good clubs when needed. He might even build out some with sharper ends, who knows what he might come up with on a bender. Generally a good morale compass, but he is not above taking something he can sell or break down into the parts he needs. After getting the special book S 9 P 1 E 3 (+1 later on) C 3 I 1 A 6 L 5 I plan to pickup mags and bobbles for all but INT. Perks at lvl 1 Idiot Savant 2 Big League 3 Medic 4 Rooted 5 Lifegiver 6 Moving Target 7 Big League II 8 Lifegiver II 9 Toughness 10 Toughness II 11 Idiot Savant II 12 Lone Wanderer 13 Endurance +1 14 Chem Resistant 15 Big League III I am planning to save/reload a good deal at the beginning. I am going to want Blitz at some point, but Agility needs three more points to make it available (lvl 16-19?). [link] [comments] |
I kinda like the general idea of Fallout 76 where you start with complete isolation. Posted: 24 Feb 2021 04:34 AM PST I do not follow FO76, but I like the notion of starting off with only you vs. the changed world. Akin to Randall Dean Clark aka The Survivalist/ The Father in the Caves, where you start with nothing but the bare essentials. Then you spend the first half of the story adapting yourself to this brave new world, until eventually staking your claim unto the land or marking your legacy. You build your home from scrap heap whilst fending for yourself against the mutated eco-system and living off the land, until it becomes a habitable environment. While at the same time elevating yourself into nigh-mythical status Then comes the second half which would take a few years later, towards an exodus of other survivors/former vault dwellers coming into your fold. Where you would greet them whilst riding on a Deathclaw's back, "Welcome to West Virginia". From there you can choose whether to establish your own faction or just become a lone wolf like Randall did whilst watching over the newcomers. Or if you're playing as a psychopath, assert your dominance with your sheer brute prowess crushing them beneath your heels, or enslave them to lord them over. [link] [comments] |
I would really love a Fallout game in Texas. Posted: 24 Feb 2021 04:32 AM PST The fallout I really want is something based in Texas maybe theres a nation like the NCR but there the New Republic of Texas(NRT)or something of the like and this game could be in the future after fnv .the NCR or caesar's legion (which you can choose who won at the end of fnv) have expanded so much that now there at NRT's boarders and you as a player will end up deciding who wins that conflict. I think a good name for it would be Fallout New Alamo [link] [comments] |
Looking for for Fallout 4 MOD (PS4) Posted: 24 Feb 2021 12:43 AM PST Does anyone know that mod that removes the green highlight/glow, or whatever color you have for your hud for crafting/building, I had it before but can't find it anymore [link] [comments] |
Anyone else prefer the Fallout 3 level up music over FNV/FO4? Posted: 22 Feb 2021 12:16 PM PST Don't get me wrong I love all three games, but there's something about the Fallout 3 level up music that really makes you feel victorious - like it's a big deal. [link] [comments] |
Fallout set during 2077 and subsequent apocalypse? Posted: 24 Feb 2021 04:20 AM PST I know Bethesda will probably never do this, but a girl can dream - and talk about said dream with people on the internet - can't she? ......... Anywhoozle; I really enjoyed the intro back in Fallout 4, especially during and after the News Broadcast. It really made me feel the gravity of how the world was about to change for the worse. But what if you weren't as lucky as the Lone Survivor? After the Character Creation sequence you are not met with a Vault-Tec salesman, only the News Broadcast describing flashes and Nuclear detinations in various states and countries. Like that man we find with a salvageable Pipe gun in Sanctuary Hills, or whomever the owner of that tiny cellar full of supplies was? Whatever the case; you and your own family have to make do without a Vault. Perhaps you have a cellar stocked with supplies of your own? Or maybe you simply duck and cover and hope for the best? Whatever the case, you survive the bombs and wake to a whole new world. Some of your family make it, but not everyone is so lucky. Some are merely vaporized, or burnt to a crisp by the Nuclear destination. Others are Ghoulified. Most become feral almost immediately, others watch in agony as the immense radiation slowly drives them mad over a period of a few days or even weeks. Eventually you and one other survivor - a neighbor, a sibling, or even a beloved pet - are the only two left standing of what was originally a prosperous suburban neighborhood. This second individual would be one of your first companions, much like Codsworth is to the Lone Survivor. Obviously the supplies you originally stocked won't last forever, so you and your current companion venture out to try and scavenge more from some of the nearby towns. Looters haven't exactly become a problem yet, but the Hordes... Dear God, the Hordes. You're neighborhood was only made up of about a few thousand, and of the few that survived long enough to turn feral it couldn't have been more than twenty scattered around the place... but this? There were more overall people that lived in the big city, and plenty more places to hide from being vaporized, but what did that accomplish? Those who escaped being burned to a crisp only doomed themselves to a worse fate of slowly becoming feral! When you aren't trying to hide from the Horde you occasionally see sickly looking animals. You saw a Doe that would've once been a beautiful sight, frolicking through the fields that lay at the foot of what was once a Grand forest. Now the poor creature walks with her head held low, starved and covered in sickly patches where fur had fallen out. You don't know how much help it will be to her, but you pop open a sealed can of preserved greens and set it where the Doe will be able to reach. Should the poor creature die, then at the very least she will die with a full stomach. As you walk away, you could've sworn you saw a Fawn hiding in the shrubs that was sporting a second head, but they vanished before you could get a clear look at them... must've just been your imagination. Occasionally when you scavenge through places like Courthouses or Police stations you come across the remains of the people who should've been able to prevent this disaster, or at the very least kept order after the fact. A few were burnt black by the initial blast, but the pills and emptied bottles of Gwinnett Stout hint that a great many simply took the coward's way out. You sneer at their lifless remains and merely go about your business... At the very least their belongings can be repurposed into something useful. Upon returning to your current settlement you find what little was left has been essentially turned upside down. Most of everything you own is in your backpack but you make note to start constructing defenses around your new home. You're no gunsmith but at the very least a barricade and some sandbags should keep the looters and Raiders at bay for a little longer while you think of something better... at the very least you find it reassuring that you and your companion aren't the only people left alive in this God forsaken wasteland. ........ Alright, the battery on my Phone is starting to get low so I'll have to cut it short here. I tried to include most of the mechanics and such from the actual titles but feel free to go ahead and tell me what you would add! 👋 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Feb 2021 07:22 AM PST Look, I am not asking for a remaster or anything. But perhaps if Bethesda could just consider updating it so it could run on modern pcs without needing a computer engineering degree, that would be super. [link] [comments] |

What makes New Vegas the best Fallout ? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 07:54 PM PST NV is widely considered as the best Fallout , and I've just completed New Vegas. NV was also my first game in the Fallout series (I kept away from the series cause I thought open-world RPG's weren't really my thing) and I absolutely loved it. Although I'm not ready to jump into the series just yet , I wanted to know some opinions of you Fallout veterans or people who have played quite a few Fallout games. Also , you can add whether you think it deserves to be called a masterpiece or does it not. Thanks ! (This is my first time posting on the Fallout subreddit so I apologize if this question has been asked previously) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Feb 2021 05:05 PM PST America is full of places to explore, and I think we should stay in America for the next Fallout game, Fallout is about the destruction of the American Dream after all. We need something known to the world to be rather corrupt, like D.C or Vegas was, I've heard a lot from Non-Americans that Fallout 4 was great, but they didn't understand the importance of Boston. I suggest that we have a place like Chicago or Hollywood/L.A be the setting of Fallout 5, to keep the aesthetic of Fallout 3/NV alive. [link] [comments] |
