We are 256 years away from the republic of Dave.

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 06:30 PM PST

In 256 years we will have the greatest republic in human history. A nation so great that it makes all others cry in comparison. A land with democracy so pure it would make even liberty prime look like a freedom hater. We are so close to the land of which we all aspire to live in. In a mere 256 years we will have unparalleled artifacts such as the legendary ol' painless the weapon of choice of Dave and the wonderful perception bobblehead representing the glorious scope of the Republic. We will have a single Brahmin for all out food and milk needs. There will be incomparable amounts of knowledge and wisdom located in the museum of Dave and infinite protection from the fence that surrounds the republic. Truly greatness is at hand. I don't know about you but in 256 years I shall join the republic and reclaim the land.

Hancock helped me with my anxiety and depression

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 07:32 AM PST

Something about his demeanor and attitude really helped me deal with the anxiety and depression that I so frequently deal with. He wants to do the best for others in the commonwealth but also wants to get fucked up and have a good time along the way. I'm not sure what it is about him, but having him as a companion calms me and reminds me what life is all about.

Why I think the NCR will collapse too

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 05:38 AM PST

So, a lot of people have pointed out all the flaws in Caesar's Legion and how the faction won't last very long after the death of Edward Sallow, and hence for that reason (aside from just not wanting to live in a genocidal slave society) it isn't the best choice for New Vegas. I don't disagree with those people, but I also think that the NCR may collapse as well, and this is why I personally think Vegas would be better off becoming independent (I prefer the Yes Man ending to the Mr House one but I'm not going to get into that since this post is about the NCR).

Now, obviously every society and faction will eventually fall apart, but I mean within a human lifetime. This isn't inevitable, granted, but it will likely require major reform to be averted, and I don't think annexing New Vegas will really do anything to prevent it, in fact it might actually end up doing so would do more harm than good.

Doctor Thomas Hildern predicts that due to the projected population growth of the NCR, the country will suffer mass starvation just ten years after the events of New Vegas. Bringing a whole new city and its surrounding settlements into the fold in a region not particularly well suited to agriculture would like the problem even worse.

What's more, while the Legion as it currently exists will of course collapse, it's former soldiers aren't just going to be immediately pacified, they're likely to continue raiding the area for slaves and resources, and while divided they might not be able to threaten the NCR like they did during the two battles of Hoover Dam, they are still going to continue harassing them to the point they have to station a lot of troops in the area, while they are still dealing with enemies in other parts of the country, such as in Baja California to the south.

And bear in mind, the NCR has to transport all of its supplies by Brahmin, and since the roads are so damaged they can't even have them pull carts and instead have to carry the goods directly on them. It has few or no trucks, trains, boats or aircraft, or the infrastructure needed for these things to run on, and even the few that it has could pretty easily be sabotaged by their enemies or attacked by raiders or hostile wildlife, unless they deploy even more troops to patrol them.

Now of course, some of you might point out that these same issues would likely affect an independent Vegas as well, but aside from the fact that the Mojave is a much smaller area than California, the primary advantage of the Securitron army isn't the fact that individual Securitrons are so powerful - it's the fact that they're robots. They don't need food or water, they don't need to sleep, they don't to be paid and they don't have emotions. This means that they will never suffer the morale or logistical issues that the NCR is facing and will continue to face.

The troops are already barely scraping by during the events of New Vegas, but if the NCR due to it's over expansion and economic crises ends up unable to supply or pay its troops then they may well end up deserting, mutinying and even defecting to other factions in order to support themselves and/or their families (afterall, even Chief Hanlon had plans to sabotage the defence of Hoover Dam, so I'm sure the soldiers in the lower ranks are even more frustrated). This is especially likely considering the fact that most troops in Mojave are conscripts rather than volunteers. They're there because they were forced to go there, not because they wanted to.

The securitrons on the other hand will always obey the leader of New Vegas, be they Mr House or the Courier (FTR, Josh Sawyer himself clarified what Yes Man meant by saying he was going to reprogram his personality to become more assertive - i.e. he was now only going to listen to the Courier, and hence some other person couldn't just come along and take over like the Courier did themself).

The NCR would also struggle to recruit local soldiers because it's pretty much universally hated in the region. Jacobstown are opposed to them because they've attempted to exterminate its inhabitants, Westside don't like them because of their water dispute with them, the Great Khans hate them due to the Bitter Springs massacre and all their wars with them, the Brotherhood are still technically at war with them at the beginning of the game, the Followers are opposed to them because them because of their imperialistic aggression coupled with the fact they just denounced the organisation, the Boomers hate them because they're not Boomers, the Kings are opposed to them because they want to maintain control of Freeside, Goodsprings are opposed to them because they don't want to pay NCR taxes, the Powder Gangers are angry because they practically enslaved them, gambling and prostitution are banned in the NCR and so the tribes on the Strip are unlikely to support them.

Now, regardless of whether you think these grievances are justified or not, they are nonetheless present. And yes, obviously the Courier can recruit the support of the aforementioned factions in the game or convince them to make peace, but I'm talking long-term here, not just the very brief amount of time the game takes place in. If things escalate further, NCR's unpopularity could result in locals revolting against them, especially if the Legion has been defeated and hence the NCR's presence is no longer considered necessary to protect the local populus.

Another problem is in the internal politics of the NCR. The NCR has pretty much copy-pasted the entire political, economic and legal systems of the pre-war United States. The same United States which had itself collapsed two centuries earlier. Now, regardless of whether the US started the Great War or China or whoever else did, the fact of the matter is the excessive consumption of US, coupled with its jingoistic foreign policy at least shared part of the responsibility for the calamity.

We even see the very same issues of the pre-war US crop up in the NCR. Like the former it has a hungry need for resources, and will stop at nothing to acquire these resources, hence its desire to occupy Helios One and the Hoover Dam. In doing so it has acquired more and more enemies from the likes of the Legion to the Brotherhood to the Enclave and so many others.

The capitalist economic system of both the pre-war US and the post-war NCR demands endless growth. Choosing to simply cut its losses and pull out of the Mojave would not be acceptable as this would result in economic stagnation, hence why it simply won't do so unless forced out by one of the other factions.

We also see the rise of large corporations like the Gun Runners and the Crimson Caravans. Much as companies like Poseidon Energy and Vault-tec had done in the PWUS, these companies have begun using their excessive wealth to provide them with a disproportionate amount influence over the NCR's government, effectively buying politicians that support their interests, helping them maintain their monopolies over their respective industries and muscle out potential competitors by any means necessary, and effectively replacing the democratic government with an oligarchy.

Now, as awful as Caesar may be, he makes a very fair point when he says that…

Greed runs rampant. The government is corrupt, accepting bribes from Brahmin barons and landowners, to the detriment of citizens. The NCR is a loose conglomerate of individuals looking out for themselves. It's lost virtue. No one cares about the collective, the greater good. It's not built to last. I'm just hastening the inevitable.

Corruption both historically and in our modern world has been a major hamper for civilisations. If you look at the Corruption Perceptions Index (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption_Perceptions_Index), you'll notice that there is a very strong correlation between a country having a high level of corruption and being economically poor and/or politically unstable.

This is because corruption makes it much harder for a country to collect taxes, enforce its laws, and do everything else it needs to do. If NCR corruption continues to run rampant, then Mr Sallow is very much correct in saying that it's inevitable that it will be destroyed.

The rise of the aforementioned corporations also suggests that the NCR is facing a growing gap between rich and poor, as many of its citizens have been forced to squat in Freeside, suggesting a lack of housing in NCR territory. Economic inequality is associated with numerous health and social problems including obesity, drug abuse, poor mental health, crime, poor social mobility, and warfare. It has also historically led to numerous political upheavals including the French, Russian, Cuban and Iranian Revolutions.

During the NCR's war with the Brotherhood, the latter destroyed the NCR's gold reserves, which its currency was backed by. This forced the NCR to abandon the gold standard and adopt a fiat currency. Now, fiat currencies work in our real world because the countries/group of countries that issue the "safe-haven" currencies of the world (the Dollar, the Euro, the Pound, and the Yen) have been *relatively* stable and at peace for the last 75+ years, and hence they are generally trusted not to accrue excessive debt or to print money to excess.

The same can't be said about the NCR. The country has been almost constantly at war ever since it was founded. Whether against the Master, or the Khans, or the Enclave, or the Brotherhood, or the Legion, or all the various raiders within or around its borders, and as I mentioned earlier, it is also on the brink of famine. This forces the country to borrow or print money in order to fund its war and relief efforts, respectively, further devaluing its currency.

In the game, NCR workers mention that the money that they are paid is worth a lot less than it should be as people in the area are reluctant to accept it instead of caps. The NCR has effectively three choices here – it can either continue paying them in NCR dollars at the current amount, which would over time decrease in effective value due to the inflation (which would likely spell disaster – if it's workers or god-forbid, its soldiers were to see their wages gradually become worthless, they'd refuse to work or turn hostile), keep increasing it's wages to keep up the inflation, which would result in further inflation, or just pay their wages in caps, which would set a pretty bad precedent if even the NCR's government can't trust its currency. If it were to abandon its currency altogether and go back to using bottle caps officially it would render all dollars worthless overnight.

California, even in our real world is notorious for its water insecurity, and real-world Californians don't have to worry about their existing water supplies being irradiated. In New Vegas, Chief Hanlon remarks that:

Back west, you don't see too many of these. Lakes, I mean. Natural or man-made. Any kind, really. We neglected the dams or pumped all the water out a long time ago. Owens, Isabella, the San Luis. Drained the aquifers of everything they had. Just a lot of mud and dust now. It's a different feeling, watching the sun come up over the water. Takes some getting used to.

This would suggest that the NCR is facing a massive water shortage due it its unsustainable use of its water reserves. Only the Hoover Dam can really prevent a major crisis.

Now, as I mentioned earlier, the NCR gaining control of New Vegas would present a heavy burden on its already overstretched resources. But the truth is, it has kind of backed itself into a corner by even attempting to annex the region in the first place.

If it were to pull out of the region and accept the independence of New Vegas, then that would break the lure of invincibility that it has acquired though out the American South-West. Under Kimball's leadership, numerous settlements both in Mojave and elsewhere have been annexed into the NCR against their will. If all of them, inspired by New Vegas's success were to revolt into regain their own independence, then it would spell disaster for the NCR, as it would have to divide its forces even further to quell said rebellions.

Secondly, while Mr. House and presumably the Courier are willing to export water and electricity to the NCR, they are nonetheless going to charge heavy prices for it, and in caps, which would further deflate the value of the NCR dollar.

If the Legion were to take the dam and New Vegas, then they obviously wouldn't been keen on supplying their enemy with water or power.

What's more, while the NCR might still be able to defeat the Legion in a long-protracted war, due to the latter's own internal problems, in the meantime, it would still have to defend against the Legion's invasion.

This might actually come with some benefits, as everybody in the NCR would be united against their common enemy, and tribes and settlements on its frontiers who might have otherwise been hostile to the NCR might become supportive after learning more about the Legion, seeing the former as the lesser evil at least.

However, the amount of money and lives it would have to invest in its defence would be very difficult to source, especially without the increased tax revenues it could receive from New Vegas and from traders in the region.

While the NCR is intended to resemble the US in the 20th-21st centuries, in practice I think it better resembles the US prior to the Civil War. At that time, it was more common for a person to identify with their state first and foremost and their country second rather than the other way around.

The same holds true in the NCR – the five states that make up the union are constantly prioritising their own interests, even when this is to detriment of the nation as a whole. There are also internal disputes between them, with the Hub and Shady Sands competing with one another for economic dominance.

With the perfect storm of a famine, a currency crisis, a shortage of water, a revolt of the frontier territories and a protracted war with the remnants of the Legion, escalated internal disputes could well be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

So, what changes would the NCR have to implement to prevent collapse? The first thing it would need to do is break up the trade monopolies that have developed. If they are split up into smaller companies and forced to compete with one another than their ability to interfere with the NCR's political process would go away along with a lot of the corruption the NCR is plagued with.

Another thing it would have to do is adopt a much more sustainable policy towards its water resources, discouraging waste amongst its citizens and banning business practices which allow water to go to waste.

Any further expansion should take place in the much less arid north, towards Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, providing more water and arable land. Further wars should be avoided wherever possible.

The country would have to reform to become more centralised, diminishing the influence of the individual states and preventing further division of the country.

Unfortunately, I don't see these reforms being implemented quickly enough to prevent collapse.

But then, why is New Vegas better off becoming independent? Because it presents an opportunity to create something entirely new, and better, rather than trying to recreate the very society under whose watch the world ended, and not even doing a very good job of that.

Finished New Vegas. Feel strange and sad.

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 12:41 PM PST

So let me preface this by saying New Vegas is something I've avoided playing almost since release. I really hated the color palette of the Mojave, and I started this game when it was a glitchy mess back in 2010. I just beat it for the first time, I started playing back in mid November and have been playing nonstop since. Ive been playing New Vegas more than my brand new oculus quest. I just finished it with over 90 hours on my save having beaten all the dlc with an NCR victory at the dam and just feel sad. I feel like I just finished a really good tv show. Like now there is a void in my life that only New Vegas could fill. Im sad knowing there wont be any fallout game that comes close to it in who knows how long, if ever. I used to think it was a really weak entry in the series, now I understand why many find it to be the best in the series. I even tried booting up FO4 after and its just not the same so I quit within 10 minutes.

TL;Dr: Used to hate New Vegas, but now I understand why it's rpg elements make it the best in the series, feel like i just finished a phenomenal tv show and now there is a void in my life.

Finally decided to buy Fallout 76 last night. I've never played a multiplayer game in my life and decided to make the leap - and damn, I'll admit, it is beautiful.

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 04:52 PM PST

So I'm a big single player story driven game fan. Favourites have always been Fallout (NV, 3), Bioshock, Alan Wake and I've never played any form of multiplayer game.

I haven't seen too much appreciation for the game since launch, and while I haven't really played as much of yet - I just wanted to say how beautiful I find it. The entire walk down from the vault was the most intense, visual Fallout experience I've had.

I've never weighted a game's worth by its graphics (i prefer an emphasis on art style over realism), but this new level of detail really transported me in a way unlike any I've ever experienced in a Fallout game.

So yeah, I'm excited to see what the game has to offer - but so far, I'm actually pretty impressed (also the systems and initial exploration/quests I've done) by the beauty of it all. Makes me excited to see the heights Bethesda can/will eventually take the next Fallout single player game game if they manage to combine this level of stunning visuals, experience and classic Fallout RPG storytelling.

TL;DR little appreciation I wanted to show for a somewhat unloved child in the Fallout franchise.

Any duplication bugs still active in Fallout 4 on XBOX?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 04:44 AM PST

I'm on my second play through FO4 and have tried many of the duplication bugs to try and duplicate resources to gain XP. All the ones I've tried seem to be fixed now. Do you know of any for XBOX that still work?

Zao would not make it to China

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 11:43 PM PST

In Fo4 Theres a submarine called Yangtze and its captain, Zao. (Spoilers for the quest) You need to get him a dampening coil to fix the generator and then you see that all the other members gave turned feral. So how is Zao supposed to get to China when he is in Boston. That is a reallllly long trip to take in a submarine and if the Panama canal is broken or destroyed the he would need to go around South-America to get to China. I know he has a nuclear reactor but that is already broken you never know when another peace breaks. So its impossible.

Problem with Perks in Fallout 4

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 04:35 AM PST

Okay, so I recently bought Fallout 4 on Steam, and I have a problem I need help with. When I level up, the Perks list won't apear, unlike in New Vegas. And on top of that, when I go to the Stats tab in my pip boy, and then click on the perks tab inside of stats, there's nothing there, it's just a dark pip boy screen.

I am only level 5, but I'm pretty sure I should be able to access the Perks menu by now.

I remember playing Fallout 4 on the Playstation 4 when it released, and I remember accessing the perks menu when I levelled up, as per usual, but here I just haven't been given the option to do so. I don't have any mods installed either. Please help me out.

Thank you for your attention and patience.

IMO - FO4 could have been great, am I alone?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 10:13 PM PST

This is my first (ever) post but I felt I could use some perspectives on this. I may be late to the convo but before I start this some full disclosure: - I loved FO1, 2, 3 and NV - Didn't bother touching 76 (I prefer single player games) - Big RPG fan - Loved the Outer Worlds because I like the game not because the obsidian logo was on the package. - I have played Fallout 4 multiple times - I don't hate bethesda by any means of the imagination

I recently was hanging out with my gf and stream whatever I'm playing to her so she can comment on what I'm doing, can't be together cause of the Covid. Tried playing Fallout 3, NV, Oblivion but after an hour of trying couldn't stream them via discord for some reason. Reluctantly, I decided to stream FO4.

Everytime I play I get upset over a few things:

    • No true custom start (I am assigned a back story immediately) if I am the guy I'm an army boi and if I am the lady I am a lawyer. What happened to creating my own past and my own reasons for what I do in the world?

    • Too many essential characters. Yes! The scientist in the science lab of diamond city is essential, so is every other "important" quest giver...

    • Voice acted character, I may be in the minority but bring me back the silent protagonist! I want to be the voice and thoughts of my character. Let me use my imagination instead of conflicting with Nate's dumb comments.

    • Awful companions, again might be in the minority but I DESPISE the companions in FO4, Piper is the worst, valentine is a ridiculous mash of every crime noir characters but lacks the anti-hero swagger of every crime noir protagonist. Kellogg was an interesting character but instead of building off of his story I was forced to kill him.

    • The world feels too empty, in FO3 there was stuff happening everywhere even when you got too far out there was always something interesting to find, a reward for exploring. Instead I'm rewarded with silence and open land.

    • I am forced to be good even when I do bad things, in FO3 Liam Dad Neason gets upset with you for blowing up megaton or doing other dumb stuff, people cared about your actions. Shaun and most of the npcs could care less. (I literally slaughtered Bunker Hill in front of Deacon and he did nothing, waiting to see if I can still join the Railroad after that).

    • I didn't care about half the characters, I knew Nora for 2 minutes before she was shot in the head. Nate's screaming for a release on her cryo chamber and swearing he'll find their son and I'm like who is this lady again?

    • Perk system is trash, I literally have to use the FO4 guide book to figure out how I should disperse my special skills to do the things I want. Why can't I just improve the skills that unlock those perks? Why can't I specialize my character like in 3 or in NV?

    • No Karma/Faction system, I have killed so many settlers but I know the minute I walk up to Preston it's like I am jesus returned to earth. No NCR rangers or Caesars Legion scouts hunting me down, just Preston and his wanna be merc squad.

    • The main story is straight garbage, this is probably the most pretentious point because Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts have the most convoluted stories in existence but tbh at least someone actually came up with it and tried to make something interesting. I could care less about Shaun, I woke up in the apocalypse. By the time I'm out hundreds of years have passed, irl I would assume my son was dead and would do something else. Make the world better or worse. Clean the Water or Side with Caesar or just take everything for myself.

    • No matter what I do the world doesn't change, my character makes no real difference on FO4. In 3 I saved slaves from the Pitt, I took down an Alien Mothership, I came back from radioactive death to fight against the last of the enclave, in NV I stopped Caesar from taking the Hoover dam, assassinated a president, and traveled to the goddamn moon. In FO4 I saved a dude from mole rats for 45 caps and shot a drug dealer named Tracy...

    • Creation Club or Whatever it's called, just a cash grab imo

    That being said:

    • I do love the weapon mechanics and customize system, being able to create the best weapon for my gameplay style is alot of fun and makes combat even that more enjoyable.

    • The FPS elements are not bad compared to other games, not the best but smooth enough where I'm not angry about missing because I know it's genuinely my fault and noth the games and when you make those hail mary shots or trying to not die doing dumb stuff it is satisfying to walk away from a fight surrounded by bodies like an owl creating a rabbit nest.

    • I think the ghoul animations are dope and terrifying, they are just a few steps short of Dead Space level horrifying, the ai for the creatures has been way better than the human NPCs.

    • I love looking for new power armor sets and making my armor look like a 1940's hot rod. I think the DLC, specifically Far Harbor (except for that stupid conversation alluding to you being a synth) and Nuka World are fantastic.

    • I enjoyed deathclaw hunting and I loved building settlements and fighting off invaders.

    • I like creating robots and making some of the most OP automatons to fight by my side in the wasteland.

-The graphics are still pretty good too! Still looks pretty and the audio is fantastic enough to match.

    • the art style is appealing and I don't mind the aesthetics of the world, even though it's the apocalypse it is practical for their to be enough light in most of the world for the player to find interesting things.

I didn't expect FO4 to be like previous iterations, I thought it would take a skyrim approach and advance the previous systems to a different level. I wish they focused on what made the franchise unique and memorable instead of trying to tell me a story that didn't make sense in the first place. I see it, every time I play, there is a nugget of what could have been great. They nailed the combat side and have definitely improved on providing unique gameplay mechanics that support those FPS experiences.

I do hope that the next fallout game reflects on its roots and looks forward with a new perspective.

Let me know what you all think.

I've had a couple talks with my friends and other fallout fanatics like me. And I find that people always side with 3 groups in particular. Now I'm talking about fallout New Vegas in particular. People I find are always saying they would wish they could join the Huge Enclave (not just the remnants) or side with Mr. House or the Brother Hood of Steel. I just wanted to know you guys's thoughts on the NCR which is my personal favorite faction.

Radioactive tornadoes in the Great Plains

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 07:49 PM PST

Radiation carried from the glowing sea (fallout 4) due to atmospheric pressure causes rad storms. Same in Appalachia though not seen much in other locations. Let's say a blast zone of a nuke in the Great Plains region messes with the temperatures in the air and causes Rad-tornadoes, could that be something you'd want in a game set in the Great Plains?

I don't like bloody mess in Fallout 4 maybe it's FNV's chunkier gibs and jankier engine or maybe it's just me but bloody mess in Fallout 4 feels...like they gave enemies a percentage chance to have there corpse despawn upon death and be replaced with a few gib mods no more watching little bits of blood and guts fly all over the place when you kill something no more corpses being torn in half by a simple little pistol no more red screen tint when a corpse explodes just a despawning and is replaced with some slapped together gib models

How to play fallout new vegas?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 02:29 PM PST

Yes, I know this is a stupid question but this is my first fallout and I have played nothing like it. I am at the point in the plot where your goal is to head to new Vegas to confront the guy who killed you. However, I feel like I'm missing out on a lot as completed only a few side missions and the ones that I am now completing are too difficult as the enemies can take 3 shotgun blasts to the face from point-blank range and immediately swarm me, I thought stealth was the way to go but the guide used a gun I had never heard. The side missions before it were however rather easy. Have I just missed a large chunk of content is there simply a difficulty spike?

What are your Fallout hot takes?

If you're unfamiliar with the term "hot take," it's synonymous with a controversial opinion. Here are mine:

    • The characters in classic Fallout really aren't that great. Unless they had a talking head animation, I can't remember anyone.
    • The Legion is a completely valid faction to govern New Vegas and is crippled by cut content. Even if we don't see it in-game, Legion territories are written to be safer and possibly more prosperous than those in the NCR. Having a "land-of-plenty" ruled by an iron fist built on the backs of slaves certainly makes for a more interesting choice than what we were given in-game. They'd still be unpopular no doubt, but at least they wouldn't be the "meme" choice anymore.
    • The NCR is extremely overrated and while not a bad choice, it's definitely NOT the best choice for New Vegas.
    • Fallout 4 is better written and more faithful to the series' original vision than Fallout 3.
    • Fallout 4 is not a bad role-playing game. It strays away from the Dungeons and Dragons blank-slate approach but trying to design your character around being a parent and who you want to be honestly makes for interesting decisions IMO. Like Witcher 3 but not as good.
    • The Brotherhood of Steel is getting stale and boring. I did like the return to its techno-theocratic roots in Fallout 4, but I would rather see new factions get the spotlight instead.
    • The Bethesda depiction of ghouls and super mutants is mostly uninteresting and mishandled.
    • Fallout 3/4's "sandbox" and Fallout 1/2/NV's "railroad" approaches to world design accomplish different things and are both valid.
    • Fallout 3/4's "apocalyptic" and Fallout 1/2/NV's "POST-apocalyptic" approaches to setting are both valid.

In Fallout 4, does the Rifleman perk effect shotguns as well?

I have a legendary shotgun I like a lot now so I'd like to max it out and make it the main shooter for this playthrough. Will the Rifleman perk give it more damage?

Seriously Confused About the Lore Hypocrisy

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 09:51 AM PST

Many Fallout fans play Fallout for the RPG. A lot for the lore. Whatever the reason is, the lore is important no matter what. However, sometimes lore is changed. This is retconning.

The issue I want to bring up is how Bethesda hasn't retconned anything. If you want to truly count additions as retcons, then yeah they have. But IMO, counting additions reduces the importance of changing lore.

Bethesda gets yelled at for making Jet "Pre-War", something it always has been. Bethesda got shouted at for making cats exist in 4 despite having existed in Fallout 2. Billy the ghoul? Coffin Willie - Fallout 2. Bethesda has been nothing but consistent with prior titles and the lore.

Now Obsidian on the other hand, New Vegas has a lot of retcons and just general inconsistencies. But yet it gets slack for some reason. When Mr. Handies are suddenly made and owned by RobCo, no one cares. When they brought in fire ants that were affected by FEV by a scientist on the East Coast, no one questioned it. When Nuka Cola was said to be invented in 2044 but New Vegas says before 1918, again, nothing.

So why are these actual changes to lore ignored and the game even praised yet Fallout 3 and 4 are considered to "change" the lore and disliked for literally not changing at all?

Fallout 3 : The Pitt / The Hole glitch (Need Help!)

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 06:15 PM PST

In the quest unsafe working conditions, I completed all 3 fights in the hole with no problems, the game then tells me to leave the hole so I do and Krenshaw walks up to me and enters dialogue but all he says is ' go away ' and then it leaves conversation, so I try to talk to him again but same thing, ( every other npc is also not entering conversation with me btw ) so I try to just leave but there's a locked gate that needs a key preventing me. So then I try to kill Krenshaw and the others in the room but since they are important characters I can't kill them.

Ive searched online for a solution but it seems I'm the only person to encounter this bug from what I've found. Ive reloaded many times but same problem. So can anyone help me? I'm on pc btw if that helps.

(UPDATE: I disabled the unofficial patch and that fixed the problem, it seems this patch breaks more things than it fixes)
