Why didn’t the Institute send a Courser to the Capital Wasteland?

I'm reading about Zimmer and Armitage — who were sent to the Capital Wasteland to track down and bring back Harkness. Armitage is merely a bodyguard to Zimmer who does nothing but hound the Rivet City scientists about information they don't know(?).

So why didn't the Institute just send a Courser to track down Harkness?

Bethesda just posted this video tieing up the BOS lore between 76 and the main series.

Might the combat rifle be a standard issue Army weapon with its naming convention—like the combat armor—a clue? Might the FO4 combat rifle be an artistic reimagining or interpretation of the R91 assault rifle?

This is probably a stretch and coincidence more than anything, but I think it's possible the combat rifle was FO4's interpretation of the R91 and a standard issue rifle of the US Army. I admittedly only have some circumstantial evidence and nothing super solid: in Fallout 76, we see one pre-war photo of US Army soldiers posing with what are clearly FO4 assault rifles, but also what look like long barrel, long stock, and high capacity magazine combat rifles. Is it possible the combat rifle is meant to be the R91, and the assault rifle the M199 backtalker?

I know the R91 looks different, but FO4's weapons all look different because they are meant to be customized. The artists had to create unique weapons to give players room to swap parts.

It makes sense to me but I was curious what the community thinks.

    TL;DR: FO4 combat rifle actually an artist-reworked R91? FO4 Assault Rifle actually the M199 we've never seen in-game?

Edit: I realize the weapon caliber doesn't fit, but perhaps the fact that it's a modular weapon could explain that? The .308 mod could be a military round. Plus there's one legendary combat rifle in the game that spits 5.56 and in the game files it was actually supposed to be an M4, suggesting the weapons at some point might have had a more familiar military design.

Some questions asked have pretty obvious answers, have been asked several times or basically answer themselves, so I think there should be an FAQ

Not saying that the questions are dumb

Trains and cars in the fallout universe

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 07:03 PM PST

I am kinda new to fallout lore I never cared about it but it seems pretty cool and sorry about any dumb mistakes on my part. Why are there no trains and cars in the fallout universe I believe in Fallout 76 there are railroads that good all across the map and why doesn't anyone use them the same thing with cars I know it's an engine thing for why you can't use them but does nobody mention them from any post-war factions

Why is leather armor offered as protection against energy weapons when leathers are sensitive to and absorb heat and cold very well naturally?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 09:50 AM PST

Title. You would think that some type of material that doesn't absorb heat or cold well would be better suited to protecting against energy weapons, but this isn't the case in game. Am I misunderstanding this?

If BOS is so technologically advanced that they can create Prydwen from scratch, why won’t they use their capabilities to aid non-war efforts?

What if the Enclave made a resurgence through the Minutemen?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 08:35 PM PST

How would that work out though? I imagine it could be done quietly, through some type of Holotape that silently guide the player after discovering it early in the game, or go the whole Sim Settlements way and place an NPC in the way of the player that inducts them or convinced the player to build up the Minutemen with the intention of converting their beliefs into the ground floor of an Enclave resurgence since both groups have similar founding ideals. Minutemen end up with more spiffy gear, end up having a greater role and impact in the unification of the Commonwealth, fights the Brotherhood, etc. I thought this would be an interesting fusion of factions.

Who has been the oldest humanoid character in the Fallout series?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 10:32 AM PST

Between super mutants, nightkin, and ghouls, which individual has been the oldest at the time we meet them? (Or the most recent encounter, if they appear in multiple games)
