Fallout | I have a confession to make, I have been playing fallout 4 on and off since release and each play through I do about 50 to 100 hrs or so and I have yet to actually beat a the story mode or side with any of the factions. I finally made it to far harbor and I’ve had the dlc since release date.

I made a Map of Dallas; Fallout 4 Style.

I made a map of my city for a Fallout TTRPG, and I thought it looked pretty good, so I'm sharing it on this sub!

    Salt Lake Stories

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 02:46 AM PST

    https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/63332

Several things that differ it from others are:

Classic Fallout-like world travel map, that has more than a dozen of different hub locations to visit in the Great Salt Lake area, ranging from towns to trade posts and farms to swamps, forests, tribal canyons and even frozen wastes, all filled with atmospheric music and sound design.

Two cars, and even a vertibird, to navigate through that map and explore its secrets.

Lack of the "main storyline". You're just a wasteland adventurer that comes to a new area to make a coin and gather new interesting experiences. Personally, for me this mod is an equivalent of the post-main vanilla quest free roam expansion done right.

Abundance of masterfully written quests and characters (As far as I know, the main guy behind the mod is a professional writer), every one of which are voiced, by mostly quite professionaly sounding actors.

Examples of some quests that impressed me:

A bounty hunt for a local raider/ sadistic serial murder that end with a very unexpected conclusion.

Getting involved in a little cold war between two towns, one of which is capitalist, and the other is communist.

A car race against a mad max-like character, with the prize being his car (Straight from Mad Max movies).

Helping a ghoul who weren't able to sleep for a past hundred years, to find the cure for his insomnia.

    Collecting gecko dung.

A detective-like case that revolves around an " ancient prophecy" of local tribals.

    And that's only a few I mentioned.

Interest in classics. Salt Lake Stories takes many of its inspirations from both Fallout 1, 2 and the design documents of the canceled Fallout 3 Van Buren, so you can expect nods and references and even the return of some of the characters, creatures, and items from those games.

New armor pieces bits that instead of covering the whole body, only covers a part of it like a leg, a hand, a shoulder or a belt area, allowing you customize even the most generic vanilla armor to something unique and interesting.

Good sense of humor. Unlike many other things like this that often go unnecessary over the top and often in a tasteless fanfic way, Salt Lake packs its punches and when it hits, it's the line, if you get the pun. And the craziest stuff you'll encounter here passes Old World Blues test: however wacky it is, there's logic and a serious thought behind it.

    Weed.

    And much more.

In my personal view, Salt Lake is now the best "DLC" that came out for any of the modern Fallout games. There's just something about it that grabs you and won't let go, definitely leaving the "it's canon now" impression on your game memories.

So, I highly recommend you to play it, even if you don't have New Vegas installed anymore, it's worth to re-install to try this.

    [FO4] candle flames

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 02:26 AM PST

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can trying look into my settings or ini's or anything to figure out why candles don't have flames. This happened in both modded and in modded versions. I tried elfx since they included candle flames and it work for a bit then they disappeared again. Anyone know the cause of candle flames disappearing? It's not urgent, just a small pet peeves that going around all I see is glowing candles with no flame lol.

    Fallout karma a bit strange

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 02:01 AM PST

All I got to say is imagine dedicating yourself to helping a group and doing countless good deeds for it making you considered a hero only to be shunned and attacked by everyone in it because enough stole a pencil in front of them

After four years of leaving the game, I've completed Fallout 4. Most fun I've EVER had.

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 05:02 PM PST

As a long, long time fan of fallout games, having completed both 3 and New Vegas innumerable of times, and having seen the entirety of Fallout 1 and 2 (not gonna lie and say I've played them cause what the fuck is that game's difficulty), I've been pushing Fallout 4 more and more into the shadows of my library. When it launched I wasn't really feeling the changes right, and over time I just completely abandoned it.

One day, after I was doing another replay of Fallout New Vegas, I closed the game just about reaching Novac. I felt like giving things a change and so I opened Fallout 4 again. After the first few dialogs I already felt the desire of closing the game cause I really just don't like this game's dialogue system. But I said "Let's give it a fair try" and I went off to one of the biggest adventures of my gaming life.

Even if I still stand by my point that dialogue on this game often feels lacking and undersatisfying, I think it's still good enough to follow the story and still make you feel like you are at least sharing the same way of talking to connect with your character. I feel like in terms of main plot, side-quest-story and attention to details Fallout 4 is not quite as good as their predecessors.

Having said that, I'm sorry to say that Fallout 3 and New Vegas combat has aged soo poorly compared to Fallout 4's. Weapon mods, even if lacking for a bunch of weapons, are soo fun to play around with. Making different runs and different playstyles and still having viable weapons from the start to accomodate them is much more fun than having what it feels like at times the same 6 weapons in other fallout games. Melee is a huge improvement from the past games too imo, weapon mods not only make them more visually appealing and fun, the variety of options to go apeshit around the commonwealth is impressive. The Baseball bat and the Sledgehammer have to be two of my personal favorites due to the ammount of variation on the mods and how it shreds to pieces low level enemies.

I also feel like there are way more wacky weapons and strange shit you can use in combat, and it just feels like straight up fun, man. Power armor is eh, I'm not a fan of the new system nor how OP it is in normal and hard difficulties. But it's still a fun thing to have, speacially to go roam to more high level areas like the glowing sea.

And the enemies? Man, late game enemies are just the wackiest shit with the most interesting designs and variations. It's too refreshing not seeing the same 4 enemies over and over again.

It feels like this game entry doesn't take itself as serious as the other Fallout games, which takes away a bit of the realism and immersion, which doesn't give you as much impact when you find a sad story/situation while playing normally, or an emotional moment of the plot. But I'm okay with trading that for a bit more fun in the gameplay. I've never switched to these many playstyles and weapons in just ONE single run. Fallout 4 is pure fun, and it keeps the spirit of what makes Fallout 4 soo great to begin with. There's still those moments of sadness when you find an emotional story that the environment itself tells you on a burnt up house or a locked up building. There's still those moments of fear when you read a vault's terminals and you ask yourself the question "could there exist people that coul be able to do this tragedies in real life?". And there's still those stupid moments when a glitch breaks the game and you burst out laughing.

In conclusion: I love 3 and New Vegas, and I still stand by the point that they are narratively speaking one of the best games ever made, but Fallout 4 will go down my heart as one of the most fun I've had on the wasteland. Even if the recipee was changed, I believe it was for good. Experimenting and trying out new things is good, and I feel like this game couldn't have prooved that any better.

Ellie Perkins stuck after rescuing Nick Valentine

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 03:48 AM PST

    Hey all,

I have this bug where Ellie Perkins won't talk to me when she's supposed to after having rescued Nick and being back at the detectkve agency. Does anyone know how to solve this? I'm on xbox one s, if that matters.

Any help would be much appreciated; this has been... bugging me for a while now and I don't know how to solve it.

Edit: I've tried loading safes to during earlier that quest and before meeting Ellie, both with all mods disbabled and and with kust alternate start disabled. The problem still occurs😶

Any real drawbacks to just wiping out the underworld?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 10:47 PM PST

I'm replaying fallout 3 after several years because I want to go back and try all the factions I've never played before, so I'm going to be an enclave supporter. That being said, I'll be anti-ghoul and any mutant, and I just got a minigun right outside of the underworld from a supermutant. It's been a long time so there's not much I remember from the game, except for the brotherhood ending. I'm looking for reasons not to commit genocide here lol, I need to rack up some bad karma for Jericho, and no I can't blow up megaton (not yet anyway) because Jericho is inside of megaton. Also something to consider is as part of my roleplaying, I'm supporting the brotherhood until I find the enclave and learn of their ideas, so would those two paladins at Washington monument attack me for killing Willow? I doubt it, but I don't know if they would just because she's a friendly npc. I could just save it and try, but it's late and I wanted to lay down, so I thought I could ask you guys

Huge Fallout fan - cant get into 4?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 01:56 AM PST

I've played fallout games all my life and I love every one from 1-3 and new Vegas.

I'm not trying to shit on 4 - I genuinely wanted to like it despite obvious flaws. I knew what it would be like when I started but ... Even despite that I just can't bring myself to play it.

I tried playing it last year and got to the city that lives in a sports arena and just dropped it out of boredom.

I think the main issue is that I just don't find the main narrative compelling at all and the writing of the quests isn't good enough to compensate. Almost everything I did from what I can recall is go to place x and kill Y. Dull as dishwater.

Anyone else have the same problem?

F3/FNV in a single game was insane, 2 base games and 9 dlcs?!? (TTW)

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 07:41 PM PST

Re- visiting these old games on PC was an absolute blast, loved it so much I decided to make a highlight reel here

I havent played these games since they were released on the ps3/xbox 360, but playing them together + a bunch of gameplay and visual mods? you know the games good when people are still playing them in 2020.

The mix of having an open world sandbox game + community modding is something bethesda absolutley got right. I havent played fallout 4 since launch and am getting quite excited to try a modded playthrough again

I can absolutley see why FNV is a fan favourite though, the freedom with who you side with and the choices you make were awesome. After playing fallout 4 to going back to NV the writing and choice you have isnt comparable

i really hope fallout 5 has the best of both companies

Weird literally no one responds in molecular level (get help)

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 03:59 AM PST

In the quest "molecular level" you have to get help from desdemona, garvey, or danse. In my game, danse says generic stuff like "What I would give for a working vertibird". Same with Garvey and Desdemona. What do i do?

Can't access either nuka world or far harbour. Tried reinstalling. That comes with a 7.5gb update. Tried going to both places but it says 'you can't go that way' I guess its cause neither 'all aboard' or 'far from home' have activated. I know it's probably been asked a million times. I've looked at youtube Google and can't work it out so joined r/fallout just now to find some help.

    [FO4] Resetting Dogmeat completely help

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 12:09 AM PST

Ok so my dogmeat has completely broken and is now stuck at red rocket with the only option being "Show cigar" something I already completed.

Now before you say anything yes I have tried the following:

    RecycleActor

    Disable/Enable

Spawning a new dogmeat (He doesnt respond to me at all and still acts the same as the other one)

    Moving him to fort Hagen

    Killing and resurrecting dogmeat

Forcing him to become my companion (This technically worked but I couldn't dismiss him or order him to do anything)

Spawning Kellogg and killing him again

Resetting every dogmeat quest and forcing them to become completed

Disabling my mods (Non of them seemed to effect him at all)

So basically I was wondering if anyone knows how to completely reset him I don't want to reload because that would lose me around 8 hours or so (and about 6 levels)
