Is Legate Lanius' dialogue proof that not even Ceasar knew how Lanius thought?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 09:48 AM PDT

When first asked about Legate Lanius, Ceasar remarks how Lanius is only loyal to him, not the Legion. He also speaks of Lanius not caring about the lives of his men, that Lanius will waste a numberless amount of Legionnaires to achieve victory.

The courier gets a chance to debate with Lanius on the merits of a Legion victory at Hoover Dam. Which means Lanius is open to reason, and he at least cares about supplying his men if he doesn't want a repeat of Denver. He also agrees to retreat from Hoover Dam until he's confident that the Legion has a stable supply line to the West. Him retreating suggest that Ceasar was already dead, or else he would have ignored the Courier's advice because of what happened to Joshua Graham. Vulpes might still be of use to Lanius because the frumentarii are invaluable at scouting out lands that are to be conquered. He does call the Omerta plot cowardly, but that is because it didn't involve fighting with people, just the use of a dirty bomb. Ceasar mentions that fighting only counts if the participants are of flesh and blood. That doesn't mean he's against "dirty" tactics. His main plan for winning Hoover Dam in the first place was to circumnavigate the NCR's heaviest defenses and attack them from behind.

Prior to battle, Lanius is known to pray to Mars, which means Lanius actually believes in Ceasar's BS. This is unlike other high ranking Legion personnel, like Centurion Silas, who knows that Rome was copied out of a book, not Ceasar's revelation. He even uses "God" as a swear.

Lanius is loyal to the idea of the Legion, which Ceasar misinterprets as loyalty to him.

Do we know who left the sentry bot at the Robotics Disposal Ground?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 03:44 AM PDT

The terminal says something about a group dressed "all in black". There also seems to be some confusion around why--whoever it was--would just dump a fully functioning sentry bot. The guys who worked there seem pretty spooked.

    Is this explained further in-game?

    What powers a Pip-Boy?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:02 PM PDT

I've been playing fallout for awhile now but I've only realized now about the logistics of the Pip-Boy itself. Seeing how everything in the franchise feels Atompunk and machines need really large quantities of energy to run, what in the world powers a Pip-Boy? A fusion core doesn't look like it would fit, so is it some internal battery or solar power?

Why did the Vault Experiments happen? They seem hilariously wasteful and serve little good to the creators.

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 09:13 PM PDT

assuming the enclave/govt. were the ones who originally told Vault Tec to make all sorts of experiments when the whole USA explodes makes no sense, what's the point of the experiments? They could just kidnap people off the street and infect entire towns pre war and no one would stop them, the Enclave could have had 10s of millions of untainted Americans in vaults, but opted for useless experiments like a vault where they experiment people gambling in order to make desicions, why would politicians give a hoot about something like that? The enclave is woefully out of manpower because their government opted for testing "what if we built a vault, but the door didn't work so they all get infected with radiation!", Like I said, pre war companies were already stealing people off the the streets and testing on them, why not just do that? (Sorry for ranting) I know some of you are saying they were planning on going to space, but no one ever says that except the looney Vice President Bird (who is just a stand in for making jokes about an actual vice president) and even if that's what the point of the vaults after great war the enclave never even went to space or were close. Overall the idea that the government with the help of vault tec (there is no way vault tec was just doing these tests just for the sake of it under the government's noses) would make these stupid little tests which help literally no one, instead of keeping millions of Americans alive to rebuild the USA and put said corrupt politicians right back at the helm once more is stupid. I feel like the Fallout devs have dug themselves into a hole with this whole nonsensical vault experimentation story line, it's a shame really, but what are you thoughts? (Once again, sorry for ranting) Also when the US government knew that nuclear war was unavoidable they decided to make a vault full of 999 woman and 1 man? Give me a break

Why was Joshua Graham given the title of the Malpais Legate?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 11:16 PM PDT

Title, wondering if it was ever mentioned or implied about why Graham was given that title specifically, as it stands out compared to every other Legion Figure name

Is there any mention of post-apocalyptic breweries and distilleries operating in an "official" capacity, like the Gun Runners do for weapons or New Reno families for chems?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 08:09 PM PDT

We see booze pop up in levelled-lists just as often as chems, guns and food, and there's not a square mile of settled wasteland that doesn't have a bar somewhere, doubly-so in Reno and Vegas. With the demand for it being pretty high (obviously), it would make sense for someone in a "civilized" part of the wasteland to try to capitalize on it, like in the NCR. Yet, I can't remember it ever coming up in any of the games.

Could Vault 101 theoretically become a major Capital Wasteland power?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 01:18 AM PDT

In my last post about Vault 101, I mentioned the possibility of Vault 101 becoming a Vault City-Like place and I believe that could be possible. With Megaton being nearby and on a major Caravan Route, the Residents of Vault 101 can trade Purified Water for supplies, food and labor. They could pay people in Water to perhaps help them rebuild and fortify Springvale and essentially become a Settlement. No one's exactly going to say "no", because the people of the Capital Wasteland are desperate for water.

Were Securitrons available for purchase in the Pre-War Era similar to Protectrons?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 02:59 PM PDT

Could a Pre-War Company or Private Residence purchase a Securitron as a more superior means of protection than a Protectron or were they just for Mr. House? If they were only for Mr. House to control, then how did Big MT/Empty get a hold of them and apparently enough of them to open a Deconstruction Plant?

How effective would a shotgun be against robots?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 11:39 AM PDT

This is one of the reasons I usually don't have my character use a scatter gun; sure the ammos plentiful and it'd be great against abominations like Deathclaws but I don't think it'd do that well against robots. I can maybe it penatrating a Mr. Handy or Protectron but anything past that seems like it would be useless. What do you guys think?

Does the NCR have an air force?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 03:51 PM PDT

I know they have their vertabirds like 'Bear Force One' but seeing how much pre-war military equipment they have access to, as well as how much more advanced/integrated they are when compared to the rest of the wasteland, you'd think they would have a standing air force bear force. Or they'd at least have the capacity to create one, seeing as they have not one but two locations in New Vegas alone that could supply the planes (Camp McCarran and Searchlight airport)

What's life like for the NCR elite?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 11:11 AM PDT

The NCR we see in New Vegas was an undersupplied army on the frontier. But, from what we know in the lore and through speculation, what is life like for the NCR elite in the capital (Shady Sands)? I'm talking about wealthy businesspeople, the president etc etc etc.

I don't recall ever hearing of who invented the card game, maybe it was invented by bored caravaners in the west?

    What Happened to General Retslaf?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:00 PM PDT

In the Lonesome Road DLC inside of the Hopeville Missile Silo I believe, there's a dead, ghoulified army general by the name of Martin Retslaf. Did he control the Silo after the bombs dropped even while the NCR and other people inhabited The Divide? Also, how did he die? There's a 10MM pistol on his desk but I don't know if that's the cause of death or not?

Where do the Trappers/Smugglers come from?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 05:38 AM PDT

Both factions came to the Island and Point Lookout to poach and steal. But where did they come from?

I assume they arrived by boat from the neighboring coast, but they could orignate from westward. The Island and Point Lookout don't really have much outside contact or nearby settlements, so they might be from farther away.

    Any thoughts?
