Fallout | Fallout 4 really lacked in minor factions

Fallout 4 really lacked in minor factions

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 06:56 PM PDT

Not so much in variety because there are a lot of minor factions present in the game, but in content because ultimately they don't really feel like they matter or add anything of interest to the game world.

Take the Atom Cats for example, I think it would have been great if they were the first faction you encountered after leaving Vault 111. Instead of Red Rocket being a vacant settlement for you to build on (but not really since you cant really do anything to the place without mods) it could be populated by a non hostile gang like them, and doing quests for them would ease you into the game world. Instead of just being handed the title of Minuteman General for no real reason.

I think Raiders being one universal group is weird too, especially when there's so many mini raider gangs in the game with their own bosses. It would've been cool if there were gangs that were hostile to one another, or that controlled certain areas of the Commonwealth (the Forged for example), and killing the bosses would give whatever faction you side with control of that area. Kind of like the gang system in GTA San Andreas. It doesnt seem real that all the violent criminals in the commonwealth are on the same side.

Gunners being immediately hostile is kind of a waste as well, they're just reskinned raiders when it comes down to it. I was disappointed when "Investigating Vault 75" really ended up meaning kill all the hostile Gunners inside for no reason, maybe that could have been a place where you get recruited and do quests for the Gunner boss of that vault. Same goes for Gunner Plaza, and the other Gunner outposts. And when you consider they do dealings with merchants, traders and other non hostiles it makes no sense why they attack you on site. There's also the Quincy thing but I don't even wanna begin to get into whats wrong with that.

In a lot of ways Far Harbor and Nuka World addressed some of these issues but it's disappointing how shallow the factions are in Fallout 4.

The Institute is the only faction that can make the Fallout Universe a better place

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 06:06 PM PDT

The Institute stands as the most powerful faction in the Fallout universe. In Fallout 4 us players get to witness the technological utopia the Institute has to offer. Despite the Institute's history of kidnapping citizens of the Commonwealth and running unethical experiments on unwilling participants which produced no results, the Institute has the potential to be an organization held together by reason and morality. I disagree with Fathers despot rule, but I disagree with the Brotherhood of Steels aim to destroy the entire Institute headquarters alongside its technological equipment and the practice of manufacturing synths.

The greatest path for the Lone Wanderer would be for him/her to become leader of the Institute. Father's tyrannical policies would die with him, and the protagonist could essentially restart civilization. The Institute with the guidance of an intellectual diplomat who can utilize the skills and equipment at hand will make the Commonwealth a bastion of peace, prosperity, and order. Synth units can act as a police force as well as organize trade between Commonwealth communities. The Bioscience Division can distribute its genetically modified seeds to increase the overall yield of crops. The Robotics Divisions focus on the production of synths would benefit with trading agreements with Diamond City and numerous other communities. The Synth Retention Bureau can be transformed into a secret police/covert organization designed to eliminate external threats to the Institute through sabotage and embedding countless number of spies into communities to act as a fifth column. The Advanced System division will continue its aim of improving the weaponry of the synths.

Does The Institute have a dark past? Yes, but it does not deserve to be destroyed. The Institute is the only faction that can bring light to the desolate world filled with violence and corruption. The Brotherhood of Steels approach to seize and destroy any groups which may hold technology equipment, and establish a military hegemony over conquered territories is archaic. The Minutemen lack the manpower and technology to make a difference in the Commonwealth, although I consider the Minutemen to be the weakest faction Fallout 4, it can be beneficial for the Minutemen to assist the Institute in combat and scavenging operations and take part in the larger front for progress! The Railroad is much more focused on helping synths escape the Institute, and they frankly don't hold any long term goals about improving society. A Commonwealth with Institute leadership will culminate in generations of post war survivors with advanced skills in science, engineering, and medicine. Fallout America would benefit greatly with an faction reviving the mechanisms of a government, a government with the determination to better the standard of living for every resident of the Commonwealth, retake Boston from the mutant hordes, and consistently produce better technological products. With the Institute the possibilities for a better future are endless. Long live progress! Long live science! Long live the Institute!

Anyone else a little bothered by the small size of the cities in Fallout 76?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 11:46 PM PDT

It's not the biggest complaint in the world, in fact I do really like some of the towns like Charleston and Grafton. But overall, despite the geographic variety on the map, I found the cities that were supposed to be "larger" like Morgantown and Charleston still seem VERY small. Also they seem bigger than they actually are when in reality, like a third of cities are made up of airports and rail yards.

I think what I really liked about Fallout 4 is it's focus on the actual urban area of Boston's that's why it's so much more dense. It's because the real life area being used is a lot smaller compared to the areas being depicted in the other 3 3D games. But unlike those other games, there isn't any really major city/cities in Fallout 76. I mean, if we just take the actual city area of a place like Morgantown, it's probably just a smidge larger than south Boston in 4. Again it's not like a really big complaint of mine because each city does have uniqueness and it's isn't super tiny, but it is a little bit disappointing when you realize just how small most of the towns that are SUPPOSED to be big are.

What would your idea be for a ‘Fallout 5?’

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 07:50 PM PDT

I personally would like to see a war between NCR, BoS, Enclave, and a new faction. Give you the role of common citizen that's somehow gotten involved with one of the factions, and helping fight in its battles.

    Timeline after the apocalypse?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 02:20 PM PDT

So the great war took place in 2077. FO76 is set in 2102, which is only 25 years later. FO1 in 2161, 84 years later. FO2 is in 2241, 164 years after. FO3 in 2277, 200 years later. NV in 2281, 204 years later. And FO4 in 2287, 210 years after.

To put that into perspective, in our timeline, 200 years ago was 1820, 8 years before, we started a second war against the British, gerrymandering was invented around then, and Napoleon approved the use of a unit of measurement that we recognize today as the metric system, the first mass produced calculator, called the Arithmometer, was invented, and a little place called Antarctica was discovered.

My point is, why is humanity still stuck in the apocalypse? We've been shown that advanced organizations like the Institute can exist (,who've existed since 2110, only 33 years after the bombs), and that technologically competent groups like the brotherhood also exist. So why has the rest of humanity failed to move on and create advanced cities and civilizations?

I understand that the apocalypse has been the shtick for Bethesda and Fallout, but they've shown us that advanced technology could be easily possible, so why not set the next game, or at the very least the next spinoff to be set in a future where society has been reinstated and civilization is born again?

For future games, would be cool to have a bestiary in the pip boy/menu

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 02:50 AM PDT

Playing fo76 since the wastelanders update and I am enjoying it and the creature variety, absolutely no idea what some of the things are though so my thought was it would be cool to have a bestiary that populates when you kill the different creatures? Just with things like their origins and potential weaknesses

    Thoughts?

    Fallout New Vegas Vats Playthrough

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 03:35 AM PDT

Im attempting a playthrough of New Vegas in which i try to mostly use Vats. As I said in my latest post I have a shitty laptop and most of the time in combat the fps are dropping thats why I made a character thats heavily rely on Vats. It seemed to work really good and is a good way around the lower fps while in combat. Now to my question. What are some perks I absolutely have to get? Do you guys have other tips for my playthrough? What are good weapons for Vats? Ill guess ill probably stick to mostly using one handed weapons since they cost less ap.

    Farming the Hunting Rifle

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 08:55 PM PDT

Hello fellow fallout fans, I was playing fallout 76 and I'm going for a sniper rifle build but I lack many of the required weapon mods for the hunting rifle to do so. So naturally I decided that I would need to farm the weapon but I have no idea how should go about doing this. How should I do it? Are there any specific events that are good for this? Locations? Enemies? All help would be appreciated.

Also if this isn't the right place to be posting this please let me know

My first time with fallout 2 baby! I’ve read a few guides but have questions

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:58 PM PDT

I built a fairly standard build just to play the game smoothly and get a good understanding. Grabbed the gifted perk and picked the most important skills. Originally I wanted to play the game with high luck and sneak. With my understanding of character building being what I learned in fallout 3 and new Vegas I realize it's a bit different. I was curious about playing as a sneak character in this game. What it's like and if it's worth it, what's a good build for a sneak character. Any tips at all are welcomed I'm very excited to play. Also please feel free to comment some more crazy builds you guys have created.

-One more thing I'm really fighting the urge to pick sex appeal and heighten my charisma as I really enjoy unique dialogue options. What other skills or traits effect dialogue?

Is Fallout 4 GOTY Steam Key multilingual?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 03:54 AM PDT

I just bought a Fallout Bobblehead and it came with a sealed DVD Version (i think with Key inside) of Fallout 4 GOTY. Since i don't need it i was going to sell it. The Box is in french and dutch tho.. since i'm from Germany i think my best shot selling it would be a german or atleast english edition of the Game.

Can i sell it as multilingual and the buyer can Change the language to German/english via Steam or is it a french/dutch edition only?

Thanks for your answers, stay safe everybody

    F76 Error code CE-348478-0

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 03:26 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

After some/any advice what to do when receiving this error. It's been happening every time I try start up F76 for the last couple of days. I've looked into it as much as possible and done all the recommended troubleshooting: restore database, check for game and system updates, tried connecting without internet but to no avail.

Has anyone else come across this? Only happens for F76. Currently reinstalling the game to see if that works.

Has anyone tries wargaming NCR vs Caesar's legion?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:12 PM PDT

I know wasteland warfare is more for small scale battles and doesn't have New Vegas factions, but has anyone tried simulating the NCR or Caesar's legion in another wargame? I think it would be really interesting and fun.

Hearts of Iron Old World Blues Mod

Has anyone on this subreddit played the HOI4 mod OWB before? I recently played it as Caesars legion, the ncr and the brotherhood. I think it is a really cool idea to have a larger picture of the wasteland and how you can take it over. Does anyone else have any thoughts on it?

    Fallout 76 - how co-op is co-op?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 08:42 PM PDT

Me and a buddy want to play this full co-op we have always wanted a fallout experience questing exploring the wasteland together etc

Is this something we can do on 76?

With the main storyline, can we both start/complete the missions simultaneously? or will we have to go back and do a 2nd time for 'player b' to get it marked as completed?

Or if it is the case where only one of us gets completion, will that hinder the other much? or will player b still get xp/loot/progress etc at a similar rate to player a?

And just any comments on the 76 co-op experience, from anyone who's done something similar would be great!

Fallout 76 could have replaced the super mutants with Bigfoot.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 10:47 PM PDT

I know Bethesda loves to feature super mutants but I feel like they missed on a great opportunity to replace them with Bigfoot in Fallout 76.

Fallout 76 likes to feature cryptids and urban legends like the Grafton Monster to the Flatwoods Monster. Sasquatch would fit right at home.

I can already see the possible lore for these army of tall hairy creatures being experimented on chimps or monkeys that when left alone after the bombs continued to evolve due to the exposure to early FEV prototypes whose effects were a bit slower or something. Essentially they could be Proto Mutants.

I can also see the possibility of feral versions, imagine a ghoul the size of a super mutant but hairy with a banshee shriek? Be terrifying. Also, their existence can be explained that the FEV they were exposed to didn't heightened intelligence but just agression.

Also, it be interesting to see these Sasquatches treat Snallygasters like their Centaurs. Who knows.

Overall, it be a more unique take on super mutants this time around. I like the green bastards but some variety be nice. Why can only humans be super mutants?
