Bloatflies are a lot more horrifying than I thought they were.

I was browsing the wiki earlier and came across the bloatfly page when I came across this little nugget of terror.

"Bloatflies attack at long range by peppering their prey with spine-bedecked larva launched from its abdomen."

    Gross right?

But no that's not what gave me the shivers, no it's when I thought after the larva hits that has that particular honor. Botflies which the Bloatflies are presumably a mutant cousin of, lay eggs on other insects, called vector hosts, which in turn carry the eggs to other locations. When the vector bites a bigger host, like a cow, the eggs sense the new host's body heat and burrow beneath its skin.

Bloatflies however seem to have skipped the middleman and instead have whatever attacks them carry their babies for them. After launching their dart-shaped larva, the baby bloatfly presumably burrows into whatever it hit (creature or wastelander) and locks itself into place using the spines that cover the rest of their body, making any attempts to remove them a bloody affair that would require extensive surgery if you don't want to die after the fact.

Tldr: Bloatflies are the ranged version of xenomorph chest-burster

How many nukes are in Sentinel Site and just how big of a boom would it be if one of them went off?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2020 04:46 PM PST

The last time I was in Sentinel Site I decided to count the warheads, but got distracted by Pringle's around 93. But still that is a lot of nukes in one concrete pyramid, right next to a bunch of radiation worshippers and that made me worried.

The wiki tells us that the Mark 28 is a tactical nuclear warhead that was originally intended for being deployed by United States Air Force bomber aircraft in large numbers, the Mark 28 is much smaller than the high-yield C-23 atomic bombs stored in Fort Constantine near Washington, D.C. both in size and destructive capabilities, yet considerably larger and more powerful than the mini nukes used by the M42 Fat Man tactical nuclear catapult.

IRL low yield warheads such as these have a explosive yield ranging from 5 tons to 25 kilotons of tnt plus the radiation they left behind. However this is still comparable to the destructive power of the atomic weapons used on Hiroshima (15kt) and Nagasaki (21kt)

My point is, there are easily over a hundred of these warheads in that facility and if they go off, then there's a chance they all might. Something that seems like it would cause a bit of a problem for the people of the Commonwealth.

PS. What would happen if a nuke went off by another nuke, would they both go off, or would the first one simply destroy the second.

Pop in Fallout - the Nuka Cola / Sunset Sarsaparilla schism

Is there a lore reason that I can't get a bottle of Sunset in Appalachia/the Commonwealth? Like did Sunset just never catch on back East?

Did the NCR allow ghouls amongst their ranks?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2020 06:27 PM PST

Maybe they mentioned it some where in the game but I don't remember. Although I have a feeling they don't and if they do they're probably looked down upon by most of the other soldiers.

What were the specific criteria for choosing a Vault location?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2020 04:47 AM PST

In every game, we have Vaults, yes. But the location keeps changing. Heck, 13 and 15 kept moving from Fallout and Fallout 2. But, counting the size difference of the 3D FPS-RPG games with the other two games, why do most of the Vaults seem to be in isolated areas? Vault 13 and 15 were in a mountain area, Vault 11's hidden in a cliffside, Vault 101 seems to be built upon a hill facing a town (which would've been a bit further in real life if the distance was counted), Vault 95 was also within a cliff roughly south of the city a few treks away, and so forth...

Is there clues on why specific Vaults has some weird location placements? Besides the vault experiments, did Vault-Tec also really made emergency evacuation hard for them? Or were the Vaults placed on strategic areas?

I mean, considering that 114 was within a metro, and 81's within downtown outskirts.

Was the cloud from the Sierra Madre caused by the Great War?

Why would president Kimball even visit Hoover dam?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2020 04:29 AM PST

I never really understood the point of him coming to the Mojave to give a speech at possibly one of the most dangerous places to be. You'd think that being president of the NCR, you'd give a speech somewhere safer like camp McCarran instead of somewhere tensions between the NCR and legion are highest. I understand it's supposed to boost morale on the front lines of Hoover dam but there's just too many risks being taken over a person who's supposedly very important to the NCR.
