What is your most funny moment in a Fallout game?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 06:30 PM PDT

The game would have to involve Fallout 4.

I recall having Nick Valentine as a companion and this must've happened back in 2017 or 2018. I had this trend of constantly giving heavy items to my companions as my character stats were extremely low when it came to strength. I think I had Nick Valentine as he was just a really cool dude but I also wanted to trigger that Easter egg where the raiders don't attack us because he helped one of them with a missing person case (actually now that I think about it, pretty sure Valentine helps you to find Kellog).

Anyhoo, we're at Kellogg's lair and we finally confront him. I don't remember what I said to Kellogg but I was calm as I didn't like my character to be a jerk, even if Kellogg deserved it. I remember constantly spamming the left trigger button as I was just gonna do V.A.T.S on him and go for the headshot.

Finally, the battle starts but Kellogg immediately turns invisible and his guards and him start attacking me. I immediately knew I was screwed because I was cocky to not wear armor and was lazy to not go find or buy Stimpacks. To make matters worse, I literally quick saved right after the conversation ended but obviously made a mistake because I would be in that situation where I kept dying and dying so I would be forced to start an old file.

Well… remember when I stated how I gave Valentine all my heaviest items…? Yeah, so I actually had given him the Fat Man weapon and on top of that, the weapon had ammo… so lord and behold, a cutscene starts playing and it shows a mini nuke going towards Kellogg and then BOOM it hits him and there's this HUGE explosion then the camera pans back to Valentine with the FREAKING FAT MAN in his arms and him aiming xD!!!!!!!!!

All the enemies died but holy moly I was laughing so hard but also thought to myself how awesome that moment was! I suppose Valentine saw the threat and decided to use the big big big gun xD! God I wish I had saved the clip but legit was so shocked by it that I didn't even think to do that!

    my theory about ghouls

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 08:34 PM PDT

in underworld, multiple terminals suggest that ghouls have received "additional genetic material prior to irradiation". I think that this additional genetic material comes from the consumption of nuka-cola quantum. an incredibly rare drink in the wasteland and still seen in machines, nuka quantum had isotopes of strontium to give it that delicious glow. people must have gone to get some on the day of the great war (and the official release date of quantum), and the people who were not so lucky as to drink a bottle before retreating to their fallout shelters died from the ensuing radiation. maybe the strontium had a mutagenic effect that Nuka cola found to be benign and released the product anyways? maybe the people who kept their minds intact drank more (or less) of quantum before the irradiation of their bodies? feel free to improve or correct upon my theory!

So a friend and I put over 80 hours into Fallout Tactics so you never have to.

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 04:36 PM PDT

A friend of mine wanted to race Fallout 1. We did, found it fun, decided to race fallout 2. Did that, had more fun, decided that since we had never played fallout: tactics, we should give it a go. We were given hope by a few chat participants who had some level of nostalgia for the game, and figured "it probably wasn't that bad"

    it was

After a combined time of 80 hours, I figure that I can give you a run down of the game and have you make an informed decision of if you want to play it.

    Level Design

I'm starting with this, because I think level design (mostly) is the strongest thing this has going for it. The levels were not plain, they were not boring, they were consistently interesting from start to finish. I would even go on a limb and say that they perhaps have the strongest level design out of any fallout game when taken as a whole, in that the levels are just consistently well built. It's a tactics game, and for the most part the game has multiple routes and approaches for a majority of its missions.

There are a few niggles. The walls don't disappear when entering an indoor area and the level design decides to hide ladders and stairs in places so you can't really access them or click them. This is further compounded by the frustrating way that characters interact with stairs and ladders as a whole (which is more of a game design gripe, but anyway).

This rears its head the worse in two levels one which has a completely optional tunnel full of giant rats with no real reward for accessing it at all. And another which hides a set of advanced power armour up a ladder that you can only access with some selection shenanigans, despite there being no understandable reason why that armour would even exist there in the first place.

    Sound Design

Fantastic. A+. Only gripe is that the engine noises of the vehicles are a little annoying when heard for a long time, this is especially annoying in bases where you have to force a character to get into the vehicle and then out of the vehicle again to turn the engine off EVERY TIME YOU RETURN TO BASE.

Sometimes there are bits where a character or enemy gets caught in a run and that can cause issues, but otherwise the sound is good, is quite positional, and a lot of enemies and guns have unique sounds to them. Well done.

    Character Design

Wonderful. While some of the early enemies can feel a bit one note, the main generals are pretty exceptional, there is a lot of falloutish dialogue around, and the latter half of the games enemies are truly fantastic.

    Story

This is a mixed bag. It throws any attempts at being canon out the window. The base premise is understandable, and the actions you take mostly make sense. The actions given to you also, mostly, make sense. However the choice of end game villain, and also the reavers as a whole, ugh. No thanks. Further compounded is a group of super mutants which kind of make sense and kind of dont, but I think I as a whole have gripes with the sheer number of super mutants that are present in literally every fallout game despite your actions in fallout 1. So that's a me thing, rather than a game thing. I also don't understand how they were following gamorrin when he wasn't a mutant himself, and that was ridiculous.

Basically, the games story is fun if you consider it to be a spin-off story with no consequence to the overall fallout lore. If you approach it that way, it mostly makes sense. Also it apparently happens between 1 and 2, but the game never seems to really tell you this, or if it does it does so in a poor way, as neither of us realised that was when the game was taking place.

    Gameplay

Ugh. This is where the game unfortunately falls to pieces. Let's start with surface level things. Game has multiple levels and verticality (great) but using stairs and ladders is absolutely horrendous, with stairs being the worst. Got six soldiers selected and taking them downstairs? Well unless your leader manages to make it to the next level, the camera will remain fixed on the level you're on, unable to actually interact with what you need to interact with, or even see threats that might be appearing.

Real Time vs (what I call) VATS combat. You can see where the inspiration for 3+ came from here, and it sort of, kind of, works. Firstly, thank the gods this isn't a VATS only game. If it was, it might have taken us 80+ hours EACH to play through. However, VATS is for the most part the most gameplay efficient route. Why? Mostly because you can't have any kind of formations outside of a default small triangle one. And rockets exist. And rockets hurt. A lot. So do burst fire guns, and well....

Burst fire guns deserve their own chapter. You can in this game sit a character where they can snipe an enemy with a machine gun or assault rifle, and not get hit themselves. The enemy will still fire at you, however they will not hit you. Until you decide to bring additional people along. the moment you put someone next to your sniper, Fallout Tactics decides in its infinite wisdom that some of the misses your sniper suffers should be hits on the person near your sniper. A+ game design (sarcasm, obviously). This devolves most encounters into 'send a single sniper, or two adequately spaced so that missed bursts don't impact them' into the enemy so that they can shoot and not take return fire.

Oh, you might ask yourself 'Why not just rush in guns blazing' oh, you sweet summer child, let me talk about armour.

In most games, the game gives you armour at various points capable of dealing with the threats you are likely to face. Fallout Tactics laughs at you, spits in your face, and kicks you while you're down screaming because did I mention the spit was acid? You will unlock metal armour relatively soon after leather, and then that's basically it until the game gives you power armor. there is no combat armor in this game. Metal Armour mk II the strongest armour against normal damage that is possible to have, when placed on a high endurance character, should make you relatively free from taking a tonne of damage... except that no, the game decides that despite having the best armour the game has at that point, on the beefiest tankiest hulk of a person you can at that point, that SEVERAL weapons and enemies are capable of one shotting you haha, reload a save, try again and hope that the enemy rolls bad this time.

And this happens. frequently. Very frequently. This gets further compounded when the guns the enemy is using are burst weapons, do you know why? Because the burst miss hit redirection mentioned above!

Eventually you get power armour and when you do you can finally breathe a sigh of relief, except that you spent about 20 hours of the game with Metal Mk II getting completely shredded by basically everyone and you're so fed up with that experience that feeling like a god in power armour doesn't bring joy, it just makes you feel "thank god I don't need to deal with that shit again"

Except that the game throws an enemy at you in the third last mission (oh, did I mention the third last mission is the hardest of the games missions yet? No? The difficulty peaks there, and then goes downhill) that can one shot a endurance 10 character in advanced power armour and you're not just facing them solo, no no they have an entire squad of enemies at the same time HAHA YOU'RE DEAD AGAIN RELOAD A SAVE.

Let's talk guns. Guns are everywhere, and the game gives you upgrades and they feel good, until about 30% through the game when the game decides instead that every gun it's going to give you until it gives you energy guns is basically worse than every gun you've gotten before it. And then after you get energy guns, it does this again when it gives you gauss, except that gauss is objectively worse against all the enemies you're facing and is only useful if you don't have a squad of energy weapons folks.

The game gives you new characters, but with the exception of some end game ones (and a ghoul you can cheese into a powerhouse) they're mostly not worth grabbing unless you've had losses. Melee is underpowered apparently unless you run entirely unarmed (as in, no powerfists) and then there is some more cheese. Don't know, didn't experience this, just makes me sigh.

The game itself lasts for too long around the middle. Compounded by this drought of real upgrades. It has these vehicle sections which honestly for the time are fine, and are uplifted by great level design, but the vehicles control like utter ass. And your vehicles are only useful in random encounters (which btw hope you have outdoorsman at 100 because otherwise enjoy those every hex) or in the fixed vehicle missions. which all give you a vehicle to use (and one optional vehicle requiring repair in a later mission)

Enemy density is a mess in this game, and it rears its ugly head the worst in the fight with the reavers. In most tactics games, if you have a similar capability to be killed as the enemy, the game will throw you at most double the number of enemies than you. This game? The enemies are just as deadly as you are, and you have to deal with 25 of them to your 6, and one of your guys is probably mostly a non combat character, enjoy! Oh and did I tell you a lot of them have an elevation advantage to you? Oh and two of them are using a gun which will literally one shot your characters.

The final 'boss' fight of the game is kind of sort of fair? Far better than fallout 2's was, but at the same time worse. You have to cheese it if you want to real time it because rockets will take almost a third of each of your squadmates health per rocket, there are two-three rocket guys firing at you, and this is with each of my characters having the hit the deck perk. I actually am not sure how the fight would have gone if I didn't have that perk.

Science is mandatory. It is impossible to complete the game without it. Thankfully the game gives you a lot of books, and most people would probably use these on your main character, since it's the only character guarunteed to be in each fight. Thankfully no other stat outside of combat stats is required. You don't need to tag this or level it, just read read read.

Many perks are pretty much useless in this game. All of my end game characters were mostly carbon copies of one another with one exception being the medic, and even at the end he was basically combat capable but could also heal real well.

There is a karma system. This karma system is important to the ending you get. Despite me doing everything good the game threw at me, my karma at the end of the game was still the default. To make matters worse, there is an action that is basically mandatory at the end of the game (unless you cheese it) which lowers your reputation to the lowest in the game, locking you out of a possible good ending that you couldn't get anyway. I'm actually not sure if it's possible to get this ending even with cheese, due to as I said, my karma still being the default at the end of the game.

The biggest problem with all of these gripes is that they are mostly easily solvable. Some more care put into when you get which weapons. Include combat armor, and give it about the same time as you start to face mutants. Don't provide you with a god tier gun, then make it objectively worse than the guns you've had for multiple missions now against the threat you're actively forced to encounter.

Mostly the combat, when it works, and when you're not overpowered, is pretty damn satisfying.

In total, I enjoyed about 20 of the 34.5 hours I played. Most of that was at the start of the game, and I truly think the start of the game is worth playing. Turn off the game when you get to the mutants, and you'll probably have had a great time. You will also be oblivious to the bananas plot going on behind the scenes, which can be either good or bad depending on your love and knowledge of fallout lore.

I think the "War. War never changes" was really captured in New Vegas.

I think the "War. War never changes" was really captured in New Vegas. Even after the apocalypse, humanity still found a way to kill each other on a large scale like full-blown battles, instead of just surviving and rebuild civilization.

Personally I like the fallout 3/new Vegas style more because it seems more apocalyptic and war torn but the fallout 4 rifle just looks plain, it tells no story and they don't look worn out at all but how do you feel?(I also don't like fallout 4's hunting rifle because of the annoying left handed bolt but I think that's because I am right handed.)

Let's discuss something good with this game.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 01:31 AM PDT

I have been playing this game for close to 2.5 years and I gotta say it is one of the BEST communities I have played with (sure it has bad apples and griefers but all communities do). When I was around level 20 I kept dying cuz I had a almost no stims and radaway and some level 150-200 or something came and dropped me a bunch of supplies. When someone has a bounty or whatever, I have noticed players claim the bounty then give that person a bunch of stimpaks. Bethesda literally gave us the ability to decimate players bases but everyone chooses to instead work together to better each other. If ever there was a group of people to restore faith in humanity I would say it is the FO76 community (obviously a majority, like I said every game has bad apples). I mean very high level players sell mutation serums for like 500 caps. I think that's VERY fair.

Plz share your experience of when you felt the community was amazing.

Which game has the best soundtrack in your opinion?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 05:39 PM PDT

Personally, I think 76 is the best, as it's got the best hits of fallout 4 (except its missing Wanderer, so that's sad), plus Ring of Fire, Country Roads, and some instrumental songs (which was nice after listening to 4's radio endlessly. Forever.)

So, what's your favorite radio station? Maybe include some songs from other radios that you'd like to hear in your favorite!

[FO4] All power armor HUD mods with meshes crash my game when trying to enter PA

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 09:38 PM PDT

as the title describes, i have been crashing whenever i try to enter power armor and have any mod that changes the power armor hud mesh. This includes

Power Armor Hud - No Transparency

Immersive Power Armor HUD (T45 and Raider PA)

    Power Armor Hud Visor

It happens even if I disable all mods in mod organizer 2 except for this, even if i run the game normally without skse or mo2 and manually install it, nothing works so far and I'd really appreciate a fix of there is any.

Even if there is no fix or you cant figure one out, thank you for your time and have a very nice day.

In the subway section of 'who dares , wins' , Feral ghoul Reavers attacked me and Fawkes. I was on level 20 , so that was expected . But what wasn't expected was this - they were twitching like MAD. And I mean like 11th degree of mad. Even my shots started bouncing off them and went flying everywhere. Is this supposed to happen? or some sort of bug?
