Whatever Fallout 5 ends up being, I hope power armor returns to being actually powerful

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 05:01 AM PDT

Edit: I should have added "and rare" to the end of my title. The rarity in itself is something I really hope gets another look.

Edit 2: Some users have pointed out the intention and meaning of having the PA available early which I am aware of but don't agree with. Also lots of great ideas and counterpoints!

TL;DR - power armor has been nerfed every game and needs some reworking for F5

We're reminded in almost all the games how power armor completely turned the tide of battle when the US invaded China and reclaimed Alaska. Supposedly built strong enough to take down tanks, they were an unstoppable force against an entire army.

As the games have progressed, power armor has become weaker and more easily available.

In F1 and F2, once you find power armor the amount of actual threats you encounter drops significantly. With the exception of groups of deathclaws and super mutants, you essentially have nothing worth stressing about. Imo it truly made me feel powerful and on a totally different level than the rest o the wasteland.

In F3 and NV, power armor is still a viable end game armor option. You are required to get training (another thing I hope returns), and are able to withstand and absorb a lot of damage in them, but you are still very much killable by stronger enemies.

In F4, power armor really jumps the shark. You get handed one in the first 5 minutes, it requires zero training (although you could argue SS had training previously while enlisted), and are given the means to repair and upgrade your suit by the time you reach level 5. I also shouldn't be able to sneak like a master ninja while wearing a huge mechanical suit.

It's actually comical and mildly infuriating to me as a player who remembers the feeling of getting my suits in the first two games and how powerful it made you feel.

So I really hope we get a return to how power armor used to be. There should be less than 5 suits in the whole game, require training unless they roll out another ex military protagonist again, and basically make you invincible against anything early to mid game.

I shouldn't be worried that some tripped out raider with a piece of shit pipe gun is going to take me down. It should be like iron man when he breaks into struckers base at the beginning of age of Ultron.

There should also be some gate keeping going on with it. Whether it's having to be on BoS/Enclave nice list, or have made a certain type of player build (unlocked by attribute requirements).

Also, I shouldn't be able to repair it or upgrade it to have recon sensors or a fricking jet pack...that should be heavily gate kept as well.

Fallout NV: Question about working for Mr. House (**SPOILERS**)

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 04:27 AM PDT

    SPOILERS

In a nutshell, Mr. House says that money won't be an issue though "There will be plenty of that". My question is, when? I need money now! Patrolling the mohave wasteland in power armor with high grade energy weapons is expensive work, Robert. Those 1000 caps are nothing compared to what it costs to repair my gear let alone pay for ammunition and qeapon modifications. I'll need some of that money if I'm going to be braving super mutants and Caeser's Legion.

So if working for you means all I get is 1000 caps and a "future for humanity" what incentive do I possibly have? Unless there is some way to get tens of thousands of caps working for Mr. House

Can you make the Synths funnel through only the door of the Castle when they attack

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 02:03 AM PDT

I want all the synths (besides the ones the teleport in the Castle itself) to only be able to get in the Castle via the main door (to big two sided door with the Minutemen logo to the right of it) I started with just plugging up the holes in the fort with the concert blocks but idk if it works or not and I just started the game (can build all of this with an infinite resource mod) so I don't wanna do all the work of getting this quest just for it to not work

My take on Fallout set in Hong Kong

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 12:46 AM PDT

I know someone must talk about this before, and I know someone is talking about "Fallout in China" recently. But the trailer of Fallout London really makes me think about what will happen in my hometown: Hong Kong in Fallout universe.

So, here a little pre-war to post-war history of my take on a Fallout story set in Hong Kong. If this post well receive, I will write more about the lore or even the actual events happen in the story.

    Pre-war

During the 1970s, UK never agrees to "hand over" Hong Kong to China because the hostility between Western Bloc and Eastern Bloc is stronger than OTL. This status continued until the late 1990s because of some changes in diplomacy and espionage work. The UK agrees to negotiate with China and both USSR and the USA are respectively backing each side.

After a few years of negotiation, China agrees to only take back the sovereign rights, keeping the UK to manage the Hong Kong government and demilitarized. This agreement at lease last for 60 years. Eventually, Hong Kong officially "reunify" with China in the mid-2010s.

However, in the 2050s, the Resource Wars broke out. China revokes the agreement while the UK was busy on the Resource Wars, and sent the PLA to annex Hong Kong.

    Great War

In October 2077, a nuclear missile from an unknown source misses its original target. It direct hit southern Hong Kong Island and cause a significant earthquake. It causes 90% of Hong Kong Island to turn into a radioactive wasteland cover in the rubble of the fallen skyscrapers.

In December 2077, the Hong Kong government collapsed, most of the PLA garrison retreated to the north to reinforce the defense of some more important locations. After three years, the PRC government finally collapsed.

    Post-war

In 2081, the Ghouls are noticed by the Hong Kongers, because they slaughtered the last settlement on Hong Kong Island. Some of them could even reach Kowloon via the tunnels. In the next year, a formal PLA general founded the Red Star Kwang (紅星觀), a paramilitary organization based on Taoist belief and Jiangshi movie from Hong Kong.

The Red Star Kwang swore to protect Hong Kong and focusing on hunting down any mutants. They fought the Ghouls on every single front and take heavy damage, after all most of them are still civilian with little military training. Finally, the Red Star Kwang blows up most of the tunnel connected to Hong Kong Island in 2083. Saving the rest of the Hong Kongers who live in Kowloon.

Little did the Red Star Kwang know, another source of Ghouls had secretly arrived in 2091 and will become the biggest enemy to them. The people who arrived in 2091 are the soldiers from the US Shanghai occupying force. They managed to escape to Hong Kong after a catastrophic tactical failure in Shanghai during the Great War. These soldiers are hiding in northwest Hong Kong, waiting for any response from their "lifeboat".

    Begin of the story

After 100 years of the Great War, the remnant of the US Shanghai occupying force finally receive some radio signal from their "lifeboat", a US battleship, and figure out its location. Now there is only the one last obstacle between them and their ticket to home. They need to find a boat and a boatman willing to send some foreign mutants to a battleship in the open sea. Here the main character comes along and begins the story...

I'm curious to know what everyone else's moment was that got them hooked on Fallout

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 11:39 PM PDT

Who else remembers your first time walking out of Vault 101 in Fallout 3?? Absolutely blew my mind. The blinding light, the desolate wasteland, a sense of wonder and worry about what lurks around the corner. Absolutely no direction or forced linear path, where you go and what choices you make are all up to you.

Very few games pulled me in like that game did. Just a hell of an adventure full of twists and turns.

    What was your favorite memories??

    Need Help With Bunker Hill

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 03:03 AM PDT

So, there I am, trying to do the quest "The Battle Of Bunker Hill", but there is one problem: X4-18 is dead on the ground in the alleyway you're supposed to meet him in. I tried going through the mission without him, but I can't seem to access the utility basement. I've already tried reloading saves several quests previous, to no avail. Is there another way to progress? Console commands are not an option, as I am on Xbox One.

What is the best alternate start mod for any fallout game? What kind of emergent storytelling/world building does it add? Are there any you'd like to see get made?

Did you have a moment in any fallout game when you were shaken?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 03:32 PM PDT

I don't mean jumpscare kind of terrifying, but more like shaken from something you saw/learned about anything.

    For example:

At first, when I entered Vault 11, it took me a second to realize something awful happened. I mean, more awful then usual. The reverse propagandas, skeletons in defense posts, tapes and terminals which slowly revealed the atrocities of this place. Once I fully understood what happened there, I was like "I MUST get the HELL out of here" although I wasn't in danger, I didn't want to stay there another second.

Another example is the high school in F76 which still has halloween decorating its remains. Was kinda chilling..

    Anyone miss factions?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 10:52 AM PDT

I understand there are factions in Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. However, I miss the faction system of New Vegas. It basically told you how you stood around the wasteland. If you wore specific clothes then you were seen as that faction. It was an element I loved. Then the other games went on to just make a mockery of how you are dressed. Anyone miss that style of faction choice?

Any tips to have Fallout 4 run in Steam Link? I'm using a QHD 144Hz Monitor with Adaptive GSync.

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 02:19 AM PDT

The big question first is: Can Fallout 4 run using the Steam Link hardware? If yes, what configuration is ideal to make sure nothing gets in the way of streaming the game remotely on a TV from another room using Steam Link? This is considering I'm using a QHD 144Hz Monitor with Adaptive GSync and my PC is optimally configured to that set up by default.

FYI: I'm new to using Adaptive Gsync and QHD resolution. But I have been using Steam Link hardware connected through Ethernet cable for a while now. I also know the Steam Link hardware can only support up to FHD resolution and have tried that setting too (even at 60 Hz Refresh Rate) on all connected hardware, but to no avail. When trying to run Fallout 4 in Steam Link, I can only see a black screen and the blue loading icon that gets nowhere. I'm using the current NVidia 471.11 Studio Driver by the way.

Started playing Fallout for the first time ever a month ago.

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 10:00 PM PDT

So far I've beaten 1, 2, and 3. I just beat 3 tonight... Should I go back and finish a lot of the side quests in 3 or move on to New Vegas and revisit 3 down the road? I'm definitely addicted to this franchise now.

What should be the next “Big Threat” to the wasteland in Fallout 5?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 11:57 AM PDT

So far in the games we've had:

    • The Master - Goal: to create a new ultimate race.
    • The Enclave - Goal: release a bio weapon to kill any "non - humans" and rebuild the United States
    • The Enclave - Goal: take control of the purifier and do the same as before until Autumn decides to do his own thing.
    • The Legion - Goal: to take Hoover Dam and conquer New Vegas
    • The Institute - Goal: to get a new power source?
    • The Enclave / Scorched - Goal: to continue the war with China by releasing the scorched beasts, raising the defcon levels, and gaining control of the nukes.

So what are some ideas of what they could do next?

Will my PC run Fallout 4?

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 06:50 AM PDT

I wanted to know if I can run Fallout 4 as I don't want to buy a game that doesn't work.

    Here are the details.

    Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7300HQ, 2.50 GHz

    GPU : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 4GB

    RAM : 8GB

    Storage : 2TB

My main concern was if I can run it with a GHz of 2.50, when the steam page says 2.8 minimum.

I played Fallout 76 and I had some processor overheating issues but the minimum was 3.6GHz.

    Thanks.

i honestly have no clue what fuckin added this shit to my game. the only culprit that i can think of is the power armor war paint creation. nothing in my load order says it added nazi combat armor.
