Unpopular Opinion: House cannot bring Economic development to the Mojave Posted: 12 Jun 2021 05:35 AM PDT I find many posters on reddit seem to believe Mr House is the best option because, despite his weirdo brand of anarcho-capitalism mixed with autocracy, he will be the one to benefit the Mojave, since the new vegas strip is the closest to Utopia on the strip. However, I would argue a victory by Mr House would not lead to the rest of the mojave being closer to the Strip, it will lead to the rest of the Mojave becoming alike to Freeside. Mr house seems to believe that with Hoover dam under his control he will be able to energize the Mojave economy by trading the Dam's water and electricity, with even such lofty ambitions as space exploration. However, House has consistently seen it as necessary to filter "undesirables" in order for this utopia to work, one example being the 2000 credit pass to enter the strip. House actually kept and valued freeside's existence in order to filter out undesirables, (source: the fallout wiki). House's economic dream has his arrogance towards "vagrants" and "undesirables" attached to it. Some may say this is a lesser evil given the economic development house will bring, but the issue I actually have is that his attitudes created freeside, and there is no reason it won't create and expand freeside. We've seen this in real-world societies, namely South Africa, where huge townships formed (and still exist) due to economic and racial segregation. These attitudes aren't a needed evil for economic development, they are a barrier to economic development. As long as House maintains the arrogance towards "undesirables" he undoubtedly holds and enforces, Vegas will not expand, Freeside will. Economic development, if the real world is anything to go by, will be exclusive to the Strip which, if the real world is anything to go by, won't expand - Freeside will. [link] [comments]

Turns out, FNV is the best damn game ever which I've never played Posted: 12 Jun 2021 05:15 PM PDT I just want to share my great excitement! Couple of years late to the party but still, I feel the unexpected joy of playing this game. Picked it up on quarantine, playing the game for 5 hours now. FNV just oozes production quality, in every single second of gameplay. I never knew it was possible to craft such a vast yet such masterfully built dialogue system. Everything is responsive, most of the dialogue lines have multiple variations. Best thing is, your gameplay is TOTALLY and ABSOLUTELY free. Nobody tells you who to kill, who to find and such. I'm ever hateful for all game companies that are not Obsidian for fucking me over for years. Turns out I liked their shit just because I've never been introduced to something better. Didn't even know there was a fast travel option until now, the 5th hour of my gameplay. Straight up walked every time and I was never bored. This is just an awesome feel and I feel lucky for not stumbling upon this game while I was a teenager. At the age of 20, this refined experience is a source of pure joy, which recalls the good old days of gaming where industry was putting actual heart into their games. [link] [comments]

Mike McDermott from Rounders Build? Posted: 12 Jun 2021 09:48 PM PDT A man who makes it big winning in card games. Have no idea what skills i should get or traits. HELP! [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jun 2021 04:55 PM PDT I just spent damn near an hour scrolling and reading player's thoughts of the story branches we don't get spoon fed in the unpopular opinion thread that's currently at the top. I just want to say that the passion this sub has for a damn near 11 year old game really speaks on how great of a video game Obsidian produced. I hope there are a few development team members lurking this sub because this game really is a damn masterpiece and they deserve a Hallmark thank you card from each of us. Please keep discussing lore and keeping this game alive. Also, I blow away the dude for the Mysterious Magnum every playthrough because I like the sound effect when you whip it out. How is your playthrough going? Posted: 12 Jun 2021 09:43 PM PDT I'm on my second playthrough so far this week, I didn't fancy how my ending was so I started anew, under the hardcore mode to change things up as well :) How's the Mojave treating you? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jun 2021 04:02 PM PDT As the title says I am going to defend house as not only the best option, but a near perfect one for the Mojave gives factual conditions. I consider what's best as being bringing safety and liberty to as many people as possible. So Father Elijah- literally kills everyone, worst ending. Legion- Enslaves everyone, no liberty, but great safety IF under Caesar, very bad ending. Yes man- Obviously operating under the desired goal, safety can be brought while barely limiting liberty, but given A. Safety is not uniform nor perfect even in the best ending and B. Extreme uncertainties surrounding Yes Man reprogramming himself? Not a very good ending. The NCR. Assuming that the courier follows the same logic, he can prevent MANY times when the NCR wanted to violate people's safety and liberties. But ultimately the NCR is still a corrupt nation that does not mirror American capitalism; But rather the NCR mirrors the British Empire in their conquest of India. They are essentially a council of seni elected governors (like lords) representing a region, and the presidency is essentially a non hereditary monarchy like in the ending of Game of Thrones. The Mojave is India and Australia. They have forced sharecropping to send food to the troops, but the locals starve like many Indian famines. They don't seek to bring safety or liberty to civilians. They came to the mojave for resources to send back west. They value above all else improving living standards in the homeland than helping out locals, even if they cause problem like in Primm. Furthermore they violate treaties they form like the one with the BOS just because it's no longer convenient, taking Helios one. They violate many agreements, with Primm, House in so many ways despite House being loyal until they go to far (attempted assassination). Furthermore they are fascist in nature because they push the value of the nation and its inherent superiority and routinely enlistees to offers to diplomats will respond hostilely and violently to questioning of the republic. The bitter springs massacre is an example of their intolerance. They like the Legion are a fascist imperialist machine, only an oligarchy elect their Caesar. All of this sacrificed liberty and they can't even keep their military bases secure. Not to mention their racism. They discriminate against super mutants and ghouls, Tabitha can go through legion land unbothered. The NCR is essentially a mix between the modern Russian Oligarchic dictator and imperialist Britain enslaving India. Then there is Robert House. House gives security, takes no liberty, and has a legitimate plan to save humanity. His securitron army is so strong it can see off the two strongest armies fielded since the great war. There are only two towns we see protected by securitrons. New Vegas and goodsprings. New Vegas is obviously secure but goidsprings, a town surrounded by threats from every direction, cazadors deathclaws great khans and powder gangers. Yet it is the only town in game that is safe without courier help, because of victor who has been in town for 24 years. House states his army in the thousands, imagine a thousand good springs. Not to mention house is the only one with the knowledge to fight off future tunnelers. House also never violates people's liberties. He only attacks people who severely violate contracts with him, attack house, or if you're the BOS. White gloves-Cannibals Benny-Stealing Omertas-Treason/Coup plan NCR-Attempted subversion and assassination. BOS- The only group who he attacks who he didn't engage in an agreement with. He only does this because he calculates the BOS will attack him, and hes right House is essentially the Institute in the west. In all other interactions he doesn't harm anyone who did not break contract or seek to harm him. Even when his safety and interests are indirectly threatened like with vault 22, he was in contract with them and despite fully being able to fill the vault of concrete, agreed to let then operate their hotel. House has a plan that can save not just the mojave but the whole planet and he has the knowledge and capacity and conviction to do it. But most importantly, house lacks the vices that corrupt other factions. Legion- ego and dogma, NCR greed and gluttony/lust, Elijah-being buddist hitler, yes man- lacking stability and capability. House is not corrupted by ego, he doesn't attempt to control all violate liberty because "he knows best" , he lacks gluttony lust and greed, the only thing that he willingly wants and enjoys is a snowglobe collection, a mere collection of what humanity can be, and he is very shy when asked about it showing even this small modicum of enjoyment he is ashamed of. He is strictly acting under moral principles, but most importantly House is essentially immortal. He is the definition of a benevolent dictator. He wants not a thing but to improve lives improve humanity without violating others liberty. And he can be this benevolent force forever or atleast until humanity is among the stars and can afford past folly. House grants the most safety, takes the least liberty, has almost no vice or carnal corruption, and is more stable than any other faction through his conviction to improving the human condition despite any detriment to himself. House is the benevolent king that in times of hard rises up above the ineffective egoists and restores civilization to his people. Godspeed House, godspeed. [link] [comments]
I feel like Old World Blues has elements of a parody to The Wizard of Oz. Posted: 12 Jun 2021 08:47 AM PDT This one is a real stretch, but there are elements here of Wizard of Oz in the dlc. First our character is transported from home to a mysterious and bizarre land. But not only are we Dorothy trying to get back home, we are also the scare crow, the tin man, and the cowardly lion. Why? Because we are missing our brain, our heart, and our courage (Our spine). Dr.Mobious is also multiple characters, the wizard and the witch. Instead of flying monkeys we have robo scorpions. When we meet him, he isn't at all what he appears, the man behind the curtain of this whole operation. Our quest can be seen as the yellow brick road in order to see the wizard. Obviously that's not the entire point of the dlc, and I'm probably just connecting dots that aren't there while having one hell of a shower thought. [link] [comments]
Uh, "New Game" button ain't working. Posted: 12 Jun 2021 03:57 PM PDT I just got done modding New Vegas and am launching it from the xNVSE launcher after disabling mouse acceleration and increasing the FOV in the Fallout_Default.ini file and relaunching the official launcher to let said modifications take effect. Before starting, I noticed my ancient saves were saved via Steam Cloud, so I moved them to my storage and out of the save folder, auto and quicksave included. When I press New Game and Yes now, simply nothing happens. Thankfully, Vortex actually has a load order sort button, so it's supposed to be sorted well, yet it still refuses to act. Update, I toggled autosort in Vortex to arrange all of the mods by default on launch, and now the game doesn't respond to any mouse buttons and refuses to load the main menu UI, as well as appearing as "not responding" in task manager. Here is my load order, with all of the mods I have installed, as well as xNVSE and the 4GB patch. Another thing, I just noticed UIO is not appearing in the load order. Here's the actual mods I've "installed" supposedly. [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Jun 2021 01:13 PM PDT I'll explain myself So, you've been shot in the head. And now that checkered suit MF needs a payback from you. For me that's whats makes the most sense. Revenge. I'm looking for a new (second) playthrough that sorta seems like the natural way. Thinking as the courier never lost its memory and knows that a group of fuckers in good goodsprings have nothing to do with me and... well fuck them, I don't need to help them, I need to get rich enough so I can enter new Vegas and kill benny. My question comes after that. Ok Mr. House seems your natural way, because he comes first. But what about NCR? Does they seem natural for a courier? I thought legion would offer a way for the courier to fight benny, but I'm not quite sure. Also, the great khans must be eliminated, because they also shot you. What do you guys think?? Posted: 12 Jun 2021 11:13 AM PDT Personally I think everything negative anyone's ever said about Ulysseys goes double for Marko except the voice, Marko's VA was pretty good. I'm not going to say the author's a bad person for making sucky mods because only assholes trying to start moral panics do that, and I hate assholes who are addicted to starting moral panics. They should get hobbies, like fishing. I'll focus entirely on the mod criticism with my post here. Spoilers ahead: There are ways to pull a Spec Ops The Line on the player to make the player regret past actions and trying to make the player feel bad for the wife of a NCR deserter turned thieving goddamn caravan-raider who sold her daughter into slavery to Caesar's Fucking Legion for cash the second her man died just so she wouldn't have to get a real job and then offers to prostitute herself to you anyway isn't one of them. There are ways to hype up a villain before his entrance, having every character suck his dick and call him the coolest scariest most dangerous and spooky motherfucker alive like he's a fucking creepypasta OC isn't the way. There are ways to make a villain intimidating and intimidating and unique, making him noncomitally flip-flop between played-straight stereotypical tryhard final villain "literary reference, literary reference, life is so cruel and dark, mwahaha my legend will last FOREVER" and obnoxiously self-aware "man this is so dramatic and cool for my dramatic entrance, oh no man don't kill that guy to skip my dialogue and ruin my dramatic entrance, hoo boy I love stories and I'm sure my one is the best wink wink I'm in a video game and I think we're making our story the fucking coolest" isn't the way. It was bad enough that the dialogue included a "I'm going to use the Sweet Revenge gun" but no "I'm going to use The Emasculator knife" dialogue option. After all those fucks and shits and damns, how did you miss the setup for a cock joke? Come on, this guy's alone in a graveyard surrounded by bodies, two were friends of mine but most were his underlings or the idiots from some town. Pardon the Star Wars reference but his force isn't with him! His criminal empire's done and he's talking like the people who hear how some random mail-delivering murderhobo lined his underlings up like bowling pins before shitting lead up each one's eyeholes are going to hear this story and say "Damn, nothing's cooler than the dude whose criminal empire got eaten alive before he got off his ass and gassed someone like a furry in his skunk roleplaying fantasies. He even gagged the helpless man so he couldn't speech-check Marko into committing toaster bathtub on the spot or call Marko a little bitch. And then his underlings took several minutes to shoot the kneeling townsfolk point blank and then the script for Marko executing some other guy broke so the player had to console command kill that guy to get the quest back on track. back on the railroad tracks. What a great final boss he is." It was bad enough that he dragged you along with his crackstreet boys reunion tour and lectured you on how mean and sad everything is and what a baaad dude you are as he shoots NPCs sometimes or orders you to do so for him. This guy's so stupid, he pranced around in front of The Courier calling him a wanker and needed the developer to give him Plot Armour so he wouldn't die from getting killed. But the grand finale where he snatches control away from the railroaded+bound+gagged+gassed+shot+buried player so the villain can mwahaha about how "Everything that transpired was according to my design" only for the player to get better thanks to a sniper who COULD have sniped Marko to prevent the town slaughter+sudden murder of all your companions? This wasn't the grand finale for a villain, this was the final summation of everything wrong with this railroady zero-choice babby's first DND campaign of a questline. Anyway after that stupid fucking cutscene you get the option to walk away (technically you had the option to uninstall the mod and walk away the whole time, giving up on the story before it reached peak trash) you go kill marko and the mod's over also you're scarred because nyeh nyeh haha suck it player, everyone knows hardcore DMs punish the player for bothering to show up for gaming sessions until nobody does. Also, fuck Russel. I go to the town to kill Glanton, he says "Don't kill Glanton until the town won't protect him any more", Glanton gets away because a sidequest to poison/reverse-pickpocket a grenade would be hard, and when the quest is done, Russel gets mad at the mayor. Not the sherrif that hid like a pussy and failed his town and sucked so hard he forced the town to hire Glanton. He wants the mayor dead. What the fuck, man? I was only pissed off when Marko The DMPC killed my entire party because I had a dog and Bad Motherfucker with me. Bad Motherfucker is funny tho. And that loser bounty hunter amateur guy who joins your party and constantly insists he's the ultimate bounty hunter was funny. He reminds me of Marko. I respect the time and dedication it undoubtedly took to make this mod series, and the unique worldspaces are admirable. The voice acting is excellent, too. The writing could use some work, but I'm sure if the developer got some help from a real writer he'd knock this shit out of the park. Only an asshole would say something like "I will never get those hours I wasted back, and that's the bad media creator's problem!". I bet if he took some writing lessons, New Vegas Bounties 4: The Rebountening would be even better. All in total summation I give these mods a 6/10. [link] [comments]
I am severely annoyed by Beyond the Beef Posted: 12 Jun 2021 05:49 PM PDT Disclaimer, at its core the quest is a lot of fun and I normally love it. However, this playthrough I encountered something that makes me see this quest as horribly designed. At first I thought it was a big, but it was just how the game is designed. What I'm talking about is the ability to cool the fake meat, or the lack thereof. I wanted to do the route where you expose Mortimer. I met with Chauncey and talked to him about how to stop the White Glove Society. However, I forget why but I loaded the auto save and zipped past his dialogue and he died as usual. Turns out, you need to talk to him about ways in order to do said ways even if you meet all requirements for the meat. I went off and did other quests and went back. Now that i've realized it I know have no saves from before and am locked out of that route. They could've included something like a paper on his corpse or something that lists ideas so the player could still do it after his death. It really doesn't help that his death is scripted so you can't do anything to save him. Just ranting because now I can't do this quest since I don't want to do the other ways. Sorry for the rant. Keep in mind I normally do like this sidequest. [link] [comments] |
