Fallout New Vegas is my first Fallout game and it’s amazing!

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 03:35 AM PDT

I downloaded it a few days ago and I've been playing nonstop. The last time I played a game so much was Mafia Remake in October.

New Vegas is so good at what it does. I killed Benny in his room and the feeling of ambushing him was so satisfying. Looking forward to play Fallout 4 after i'm done with this gem.

Raul Tejada would be a great alternative to the Mysterious Stranger for future Fallout games.

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 03:00 AM PDT

In Fallout New Vegas, we are introduced to Raul Tejada. He is an original Ghoul, having witnessed the Great War first-hand.

Pre-War, he grew up as a delinquent in Mexico living on a ranch with his family, with great skill in general repair and gunslinging. Post-War, he lost his family to Raiders, save for his sister, Rafaela.

Being pursued by Raiders, Raul and Rafaela made their way to Mexico City. There, Raul found an old Vaquero (cowboy) Costume which made Rafaela extremely happy whenever she saw him wearing it.

The costume caught a lot of attention, even inspiring a legend. Unfortunately, after some time, Rafaela was brutalized beyond recognition by Raiders, except for a scar on her knee from her childhood. Raul avenged her, and blamed his usage of the costume for her death.

Many years later during the events of Fallout New Vegas, the Courier can acquire Raul as a companion. The Courier can convince Raul to don the costume again and take up guns in memory of Rafaela.

If you choose to do this, tales of a Ghost Vaquero who hunts down those who prey on the weak arise in the Wasteland.

If another Fallout game were to be made post New Vegas, Raul, like Miss Fortune, perhaps called "Ghost Vaquero", could be an alternative option to the Mysterious Stranger perk.

TL;DR: Raul Tejada, a Ghoul, could be an alternative to the Mysterious Stranger perk in any game set after New Vegas, due to being a gunslinger with a unique outfit and the fact that his aging is severely slowed down.

Fallout has ruined GTA for me

    Posted: 12 Jun 2021 10:23 AM PDT

GTA used to be my favourite game of all time, from GTA 3 to GTA 5 I have spent countless hours, playing, replaying, modding and messing about in all the games (except the 2D ones).

I discovered Fallout VERY late, downloaded Fallout New Vegas randomly last year, fell in love, bought Fallout 4, have mixed feelings on that one and then I played Fallout 3, my favourite one. Oh my god what a fucking game. It has its flaws but I can never enjoy a linear game again.

The fact that I can't kill anyone I want, the fact that I have to watch cutscenes rather than actually give my opinion or change the outcome with dialogue 1. Drains the replay-ability of a game and 2. Doesn't make it feel personal.

In fallout you can team up with who you want to team up with, travel anywhere you want to, in GTA you are forced to follow one path and very, very rarely get to decide on an alternate path you want to take.

Fallout has ruined GTA and many other games for me. Does anyone agree ? Also while you're here, is Mass Effect worth playing ? I want a similar feel to Fallout, I've also never played Skyrim, is that worth playing too ?

Edit : For anyone saying "those games are completely different". Yes, they are. I guess the title should've been "Playing fallout has made me realise I'm a fan of RPG's and sort of ruined linear games for me". Doesn't roll of the tongue does it ?

Survival mode make fighting a army... actually feel like fighting a army

    Posted: 12 Jun 2021 11:32 AM PDT

So, i started my first playthough in the survival mode and it's beating the everliving shit out of me

I'm the kinda player that every 5 steps will make a save. And i can't do that in survival, so i need to think much more before doing things. Bought a home in diamond city and decided to go after Nick. When i got to the train station, i cleared the first room, but after going down the starts, there is a small army of Skinny Malone guys down there, and i felt like a guerrila soldier in that moment. I shot, hide, thown molotov, hide, granade, hide. I took me like, 1 hour to kill all of them, because they keep charging me every time. Diferent from the normal game, i actually felt in disvantage in that moment, and had to think through every step before i made it.

It was hard, but it was cool at the same time

How come West Virginia's groundwater is radioactive despite barely being nuked yet Boston's groundwater is pretty much purified?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 01:59 AM PDT

It's not that big of a deal but I fully went into fallout 76 (At least the forest region which is the most untouched) thinking I'd find pretty much no radioactive fallout in the drinking wells. Yet Boston, which was only moderately nuked, seemingly has clean and filtered groundwater.

Would a Legion Courier complete Three Card Bounty?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 05:00 AM PDT

My character is a sniper indoctrinated into the legion from very young. They have been assigned as a Frumentarii since before the first battle of Hoover Dam in order to weaken NCR moral; However my charcter hates Raiders and Fiends and I dont know whether they would do The Three Card Bounty Quest or not?

    Fallout76 not that bad?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 04:34 AM PDT

Trying the free trial and it feels pretty neat. Feels like elder scrolls online but with a bit more fun combat gameplay.

When I open the map it doesn't seem to be many players around though, maybe just at the starting area? Would you guys say it's worth getting full game? I thought fallout was hated but didn't seem very bad to me.

Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 3

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 05:28 AM PDT

So I'm in the category of newer fallout players, I've only played 4, and a portion of 76 (until I got bored and moved on)

I've been told I need to try some of the other fallout games to truly appreciate the franchise. Everyone I know says either 3, or New Vegas, so I wanted to turn to the world of Reddit and ask you all your opinion. Should someone like me do 3 or New Vegas first?

(FO4) So I got into a 30 minute long battle with like 500 Feral Ghouls

    Posted: 12 Jun 2021 05:47 PM PDT

So I'm fucking about in the game, doing some wandering when I had the brilliant idea of going to the glowing sea, I hadn't been there in a while so I thought "fuck it, why not?" And fast traveled to the vault that you do Cait's Quest in. for ease of convenience, I walk to the glowing sea and get swarmed by like 30 ghouls (I was using the True Storms mod and had all the feral ghoul shit at max) and forgot the sea has a never ending Rad Storm, and I'm fighting on my own here, because Piper and Dogmeat are having their asses handed to them, and I burned through like 80% of my ammo and stimpaks until I finally fled out of the Rad Storm. Good thing for Cheat Room so I could refill my ammo easily, I guess.

Fallout of Nevada crashing in New Reno near the Eldorado casino.

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 03:26 AM PDT

As the title says my game crashes everytime I go near the brothel besides the Eldorado. I can enter the Eldorado just fine but if I try getting close to the brothel or Wright's house the game crashes.

    Anyone know of a solution?

[FO1] The Junktown motel hostage sequence... wow

    Posted: 12 Jun 2021 07:16 AM PDT

For context I'm in the middle of my first ever playthrough of FO1, and I just did the Junktown motel hostage sequence where you stay a night and wake up to the front desk manager waking you up for help saving a woman being held at gunpoint in the room over.

What I think makes this game so special is how it's so able to achieve two completely different moods within the same game, that being comedy and serious dark sequences like this one. I am constantly smirking at the dialogue options and just silly shit the npcs say, but then met with moments like this one where I have a serious deep convo with a man about to put a bullet in the brain of a woman who's part of the myriad of people that have seemingly treated this man with contempt, putting him on a mentally ill path that unfortunately still isn't uncommon 20+ years later, if not has gotten worse. The dialogue options you can have are so eloquent. Phrases like "You're in charge," and multiple pauses where the dialogue ends so he can take a break and think about things instead of forcing it all to be one long dialogue sequence. It's not only masterfully written, but creatively produced.

"Local Leader" perk, is it worth it?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 12:23 AM PDT

    Here's the deal,

I began playing Fallout 4 on my playstation and already have 98+ lvl 600h character on my xbox. Playing until I'm bored to death of a game.

So... Already have 6+ perks (lvls) that are waiting to be put. Lvl16 btw.

I've constructed water filters all over sanctuary (2500 water lvl to be exact) so capps aren't a problem.

    Is it worth it?

Anyone else want a Fallout that doesn't have us start in a vault?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2021 07:29 AM PDT

It's been a good while since our player character didn't start out in a blue skin suit. Thinking back to Fallout 2/New vegas where we already had lived in the Wasteland. Vaults are getting a little overused in my opinion.

Does anyone know why i have redownload my FNV saved game every time?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 04:02 AM PDT

Whenever I try to launch Fallout New Vegas on my xbox one it always comes up with the xbox 360 cloud storage and states "Downloading Saved games for.." and with a snail-paced progress bar.

Why? No other 360 game on my xbox one has this problem and when it does pop up for games such as Fallout 3 or Oblivion the progress bar is really quick but always for new vegas it takes like 10-15 minutes every time. Even if i redownload the saved games again and quit new vegas i have to redownload it again.

Is there any reason for this annoyance? Like it never occured on my 360 and when i first downloaded it for my xbox one but since last year the message pops up and i have to wait 15 mins to get to the main menu.

    *CLIP* Fallouts most heartbreaking death!

My Fallout game (20+ years as an idea) Part 1 - introduction.

    Posted: 12 Jun 2021 06:10 PM PDT

My Fallout game (20+ years as an idea) introduction.

Before I start this I would like to say I am a very long term fallout player, I got the first Fallout about 6 months after release and Fallout 2 the weak of release, I've played every Fallout game upto New Vegas and I have watched the Lore videos on youtube for Fallout 4 and 76 and I have not been impressed enough with either to want to play either.

If I was somehow given control of the Fallout IP I would personally decononise Fallout's 3, 4 and 76, Brotherhood of Steel and New Vegas would only be partially canonical, that is just because I find what Bethesda has done with the IP to be awful in terms of established Lore and trying to shoehorn in factions that should have remained in the West or be long dead. I am not trying to poop over other peoples favourite games this is just my personal feelings on the matter and considering that its highly unlikely I'll ever be in this position I consider this to be an exercise stemming from my own efforts in world building.

With that out of the way here is my basic introduction to the setting and Lore:

    Location – NYC

I've chosen this because it's one of the very few American City's that I am familiar with on more than a cursory level having visited the city and having some friends who live their (I'm English for reference) also the mix of Old and New buildings in the city has some plot points I'd like to explore.

Era – 2250's starting in the first third of 2254 is what I have in mind but I've never considers this set in stone and a friend of mine who is aware of this project has said setting it between Fallout 1 and 2 would be interesting.

The State of NYC in the 2250's – New York was in a bad state before the War with the nuclear accident and the Blue Plague ravaging the city's infrastructure and inhabitants, civil unrest was rife when the Bomb's fell it just put the final nail in the coffin for the city.

Older buildings survived the bombs better purely from a mechanical point of view they where shielded from the blasts by newer sky scrapers who where twisted and broken by the bombs leaving the surrounding areas filled with rubble and collapsing ontop of other buildings. The Subway system survived relatively in tact and was used as sort of impromptu fallout shelter by people who where fortunate enough to be down there when the bombs fell or who where able to reach it shortly after, however the available supplied soon dwindled forcing people to leave some of these tunnels are now flooded or otherwise impassable so they don't act as travel corridors like in Fallout 3 for huge swaths of world map. The areas of the tunnel system that are occupied and have transit routes between them are normally settled and you have to pay a tole in either caps or other goods to gain entry to the settlements this way and several of the stations will normally attack anything coming up the tunnels on sight as this is normally a source of mutants or other nasties like raiders coming to attack the settlement.

Available places to farm food are in short supply, some settlements have cobbled together hydroponics systems in place, others rely on trade the only available farmland in the City is in Central Park and it is ran by a very powerful family who are not bothered about playing favourites as to who they sell food too and will often cut off settlements from direct trade for perceived slights and insults there family home is that of an old Mansion overlooking the park and is very well defended they are descended from a Banking Dynasty who had several private banks and investment firms before the war and where able to use there personal shelters to survive the war and rebuild quicker than most. They view themselves as the only true owners of NYC and have been known to demand that settlements hand over any useful tech they have often times by force although that is happening less these days not through any legitimate change in attitude it's just that most of the useful old prewar tech as been salvaged long ago.

Water isn't much of an issue when it comes to availability but clean drinkable water most certainly is, most settlements have the ability to purify water to some degree but there are two Water Farms in the city running stills to purify the water but both have issues one's not able to run there stills very often as they need wood to burn and the other one has issues with electrical generation as they use electricity to heat the water but spare parts are becoming a serious issue.

The City it's self is the biggest natural resource its inhabitants have, the main exports are salvaged Steel, Copper, Aluminium and other high value scrap currently but for a long time it was rediscoverd old tech such as Computer Parts, Car Parts and various other items some find value in (The player charterer is a scavenger but more on this later).

Arms and Armour of NYC -

This is where I diverge from most Fallouts, weapons are more primitive in nature, the long supply lines that self contained cartridges possible haven't really restarted people even this long after the war are more concerned with Survival in the medium period i.e. the next 5 – 10 years so moving large amounts of material around the former united states isn't really an option and not everything needed can be found locally. Things like smokeless powder require exotic chemicals to produce and are essential for Semi Automatic and Fully Automatic weapons to function correctly and Primers like fulminated mercury (the most simple primer compound your able to make) are corrosive and pose some serious danger to the producers.

So what is available? Well for most it's a Knife and Pole fashioned into a spear it's not sexy but it works and unless your actively seeking trouble it's enough to fend of the local Fauna, Put dinner on the table and when your traveling defending yourself from a highwayman.

For ranged weapons most people have 3 options available, Sling, Bow and Crossbow. The Sling is humanities oldest ballistic weapon predating the bow can be stored in your pocket and use anything from Rocks to Cast lead balls as ammunition and is despite all modern thought can be fatal to man sized targets (The Romans and Ancient Greeks fielded units of sling troops and then there is the Balearic slingers who where LEGENDARY sling wielders please look them up for more information as I cant do them justice here, and as recently as the last month you can see them being used by Palestinians against the IDF please note I'm not getting political with that last part im stating a documented fact that slings are still used as a weapon).

Bow's are the next in line and the 2nd most common ranged weapon available they are made locally and they are fine for most ranged combat, there is a small tribe in the East of the city who are famous for using War Bows made from Leaf Springs and are said to be able to fell anything the city has to offer but most bows are in the 60 – 80lb draw weight range.

Cross bows are the 3rd most common and the eayest to learn to use well and show the most variety when it comes to size and ammunition, the average one is man portable and doesn't require a windlass to reload you simply place it down facing away from you draw the bow string back with both hands pick it up and inset the bolt, the trigger mechanisms range from simple peg pressed upwards into the notch to release the string to more complex arrangements on the larger more powerful bows, there is also another verity called the Stone Bow that is mostly used for hunting small game and by people who lack the strength to draw the more full weight bows. One Settlement in the game is building a Ballista based on drawings from an Old World book they have found with illustrations of Roman Siege weapons.

Firearms – This is where it gets more complex, Firearms are difficult to feed in the more modern sense with self contained cartridges, to get around this firearm technology has taken several steps back to remain viable this has lead to a resurgence of Muskets and Rifled Muskets but very few of them are "Flint Locks" the most common system of ignition is Match Lock this is a bit of cloth soaked in salt peter that burns slowly, to some more esoteric versions that use a bit of fine wire attached to some form of battery that heats up when the trigger is depressed.

The problems with these systems is they are not very reliable and cant really be used in Windy or Wet conditions (as true as it was in the 16th century), and the powder they use isn't as powerful as you would expect as stated before it's hard to get your hands on all the required chemicals Sulphur is one of those that's hard to get so they are forced to rely on an old two part mixture of Charcoal and Salt Peter this means that each shot isn't as powerful as expected and doesn't burn as fast either leading to a longer Lock Time on each shot, however those who use Muskets say that the Flash and Smoke they make more than make up for the lack of power in shock value alone against people and other creatures who are not used to it.

These weapons range in size from small hand cannons right the way upto Rifles and Shotguns, and are costly to manufacture and run as stated above, they are normally carried by Professional Soldier, Mercenaries, Wealthy Traders, Settlements with wealth enough to issue them to guards etc so not your normal run of the mill new yorker.

Laser and Plasma, They are still around but not in great numbers the exotic maintenance materials requirements and the availability of viable Micro Fission cells has slowly reduced there numbers over the last 180 years, The family that owns the farm has 2 plasma weapons one of them has to be perminatly rigged to a Generator to provide the power to fire the other is a Plasma Pistol carried by the Patriarch and nobody is 100% sure if it still functions, the rest are scattered and in poor state of repair apart from a small faction that has 10 Laser Rifles that are only used in dire circumstances by the most elite and best trained members.

Fauna of NYC – Rats are the main environmental enemy, but these are not your run of the mill rats the young are the size of a large sewer rat today, and can grow to the size of a VERY large dog, the small ones are fast and in small numbers are easy to deal with but if they swarm you its often better to run, not common outside during daylight hours but at night are common and are always present underground.

Cat's, No they are not extinct and in NYC they have grown more into miniature Lions in part due to mutation but also to compensate for the increased size of there Rodent prey, solitary creatures who like to stalk and play with there prey they are best avoided but hunting them for there pelts can be a lucrative source of income as is there meat.

Dogs, The feral dog population of NYC was huge before the war due to lack of funds to control the population, and its only got worse since the war. Some settlements have dogs as Alarm systems and Guards some even treat them as pets but the feral dogs are vicious pack hunters who can and will attack loan travellers and large groups.

Pigeons, These are the descendants of the regular Rock Dove some what emaciated and dirtier than ever they don't pose a threat to your average traveler but are a common pest that can provide some food there is reports of them flocking to the sights of recent battles and picking over carcases but nobody really believes it.

    So how it begins -

Your family has a legend like all families do, on the Day of the great War you where turned away from the safety of Vault 97 built under the city. Over the generations the reason has been lost to time if it was even known in the first place but a sense that you where cheated out of something great has permutated your family ever since, your a Scavenger a bloody good one (as is the rest of your family) at that you have built up a collection of maps and data from before the war giving you ideas where to find the best remaining scrap and eventually your prize Vault 97 it's self, and now that time has come.

You assemble your team mostly extended family and make your way into the dark underground of the old Metro System prepared like never before, you have put everything into this Food, Equipment, Pack animals, weapons etc all your caps are on the line on this one but everybody has agreed its time.

After weeks of digging through the hard Granite of the area your pick finally meats no resistance you look through the dark hole and bring a light up you can just make out a tunnel on the other side, in earnest you and the rest of your family begging hacking at the walls with a renewed vigour until a man sized hole is cleared and you take the honour of being the first inside as you walk down the tunnel towards the door you realise this is it this is the Vault 97 Emergency access tunnel, but something is wrong no lights are on and there is some rubble jamming the door, with the help of your family you clear the obstruction and force the door, once open thats when you see it skeletons surrounding the door with scratch marks all over it they must have been trying to escape but couldn't because of the rubble jamming the door from the other side, poor bastards.

Shouting starts at the other end of the Tunnel you turn around and make out the sounds of weapons fire you grab your pick and run thinking it must be some other scavengers trying to claim your prize. Just as you make it to the hole you cut into the tunnel you pick up that this must be a really powerful group they have Old world weapons from the sound of the gunfire just as you get into the old rail tunnel your passed a crossbow by someone and you take aim at the lights you can see off in the distance, the Battle as it turns out is short and one sided you are not on the winning side.

Your wounded and drifting in and out of consciousness and you catch some glimpses of the people who have killed your family and stole your life's work, they are dressed oddly almost like old world soldiers you've seen in pictures carrying rare valuable prewar weapons not just one or two but every man you see has a rifle you finally black out… Several days pass and you regain consciousness in the black of the tunnel you reach around for your emergency lamp and fire lighter after some effort you manage to light it the tunnel you have been digging is collapsed and you have no hope of digging it out again not on your own your family is dead all around you after some fumbling you find your pack and a weapon and take one last look at the tunnel your life's goal your old life's goal as your new goal is Revenge.

Part 2 if people want to see it will cover locations, and major factions in detail including a Map.
