Fallout 4 is very underrated; it's gun mechanics, settlement building, graphics and more had me for 3-4 play throughs

But it's colour pallet, overly tongue in cheek scenarios and friendly characters lost a lot of what gripped me in FO3

FO3 was a horror game; with its dark green pallet, the unforgiving harshness of empty wasteland and the more morally ambiguous choices! Child slavery abs blowing up megaton were both extremely harrowing parts of the game.

There is also the metro underground with the feral ghouls, the centaurs and not to mention the super mutants bloody faces!

Edit; And how could I forget the dunwhich building! Thanks to the comments for reminding of some other horror elements! Might have to play it again!!!

What's the most brutal horrific thing you've ever done in a Fallout game?

    Posted: 16 May 2021 10:57 AM PDT

I regret doing this but I kept repeatedly dying on the way to Nipton along the railway track this carried on for hours and I was killing anything that was in my path and dying at this point I was pretty fucking pissed. Then I came across coyote cave and saw using vats that there was a group of young wolves as well as their mother, I threw dynamite down into the cave and exploded them all the mother survived and started attacking me along with the other wolves on the outside, I killed them all and using a cleaver severed the head of the mother and threw it down into the cave. and left eating coyote meat.

Reflecting on this I feel awful and I don't like it but I think it was mostly due to my anger that this happened I changed to a pacifist run after this.

A challenge for the Fallout 4 expert

    Posted: 16 May 2021 11:16 PM PDT

I've been playing for roughly 2,400 hours and figured out a challenge for myself to spice things up. It worked, so if you don't mind I'll share it with you. Basically, it's to get all the endgame gear at almost the start of the game. Yes, getting the items I am talking about is getting endgame gear at the beginning of the game, but getting it like this is a huge challenge, and having done a billion playthroughs, hey, why not?

Step one is to prepare. Go to the Southern Boston Military Checkpoint, which resets itself almost immediately after you clean it out. It has a lot of things, especially a Fat Man. Go there very early in the game, clean it out repeatedly, and amass an absolutely ridiculous amount of stuff to sell by level 20. Dump each trove in Home Plate until you're done amassing. You should have little combat beyond cleaning out the Super Mutants in Hub Auto Wreckers once, so it's just running back and forth. When you are lvl 20, and are absolutely sure that you have enough stuff, and have 3 perks in Strong Back -- it's time.

Step two is get the best armor in the game at about lvl 20. You can carry all the stuff to pay for it by using the 3 perks in Strong Back. The catch? You have to move in bursts, with normal movement available for only a bit until your AP runs out. You also will have to regularly spend Stim Packs to heal your legs, as carrying above your limit at lvl 20 Strong Back damages them regularly. You will very often need to sneak or bypass enemies, since a metric ton of what you'll encounter will one-shot you at this stage, especially given the way you're moving.

The items you are going for are: Devastator's Leg in Goodneighbor, Mantis Left Greave from Lucas Miller, Right and Left Recon Marine arms in the Nucleus in Far Harbor, and Recon Marine chest in Acadia in Far Harbor. I personally opted to wear Destroyer's helm from Covenant, but technically Recon Marine helmet is strongest.

Sneaking like a dead brick through some of the most dangerous areas in Fallout 4 without dying and barely able to fight was a pulse-pounding experience for me, even on subsequent playthroughs. That includes getting to the Nakano Residence like this and the absolute insanity of getting admitted into the Nucleus, and moving like this in general. If you want a challenge and don't mind getting the best armor very early at the cost of REALLY working for it, try this. It's a thrill.

Is there some outfit that accepts ballistic weave while still being able to wear armour over it?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 01:49 AM PDT

I'm planning on getting ballistic weave for my Institute character since he's bit fragile compared to my previous characters and I was wondering if there's a outfit that I could modify with ballistic weave while still being able to use my armour

Sad about end of New Vegas

    Posted: 16 May 2021 11:03 PM PDT

Today I completed Fallout New Vegas for the 1st time and I was randomly hit with this wave of sadness I couldn't quite understand why. After pondering for awhile I realized that I felt like my story wasn't finished but the game made my story end for me.

I didn't do any side quests, I just did the main quest line for the NCR expecting to be able to play after the questline was done, so I was kinda shocked when the game pulled a 3 on me and made me be done. Still, I become connected to my character in a way because I put myself into her and was sad to see her/my story done. I didn't want it to be done and it kinda sucks not knowing what happens next for my character in the little timeline I created. I like to imagine my character found peace.

I always remember my first playthroughs the most because those are the pure ones, there is no clairvoyant knowledge of what happens next and knowing the best choices to make. You have to make the choices as you go (or cheat and look it up) so I wish I would have done more side quests. Also sucks that I have to avoid the main factions so as to not end the game.

Oh well. It is just a game. I really hope they can make another fallout like this one and not 4, but that seems unlikely.

Why did the courier care so much about the platinum chip?

    Posted: 16 May 2021 01:38 PM PDT

Like if I got shot delivering a package, I would just quit. Imagine your a Mail man and you get shot in the head and you survived. The first thing you shouldn't do is try and find the package. I just dont get it. Why is the courier so determined?

Meat models worst model for factories - Need ideas !

    Posted: 17 May 2021 03:50 AM PDT

I have a significant meat factory that is fairly complex that just keeps getting clogged up with the Human Meat. I don't know who designed this model but its wayyyy too big to have come from a human in the first place. Its not a very agreeable model to have running around on moving machines; they constantly get stuck on the tiniest little bump, and their physics seem quite broken.

I'm looking for a way to fix this another way, as I have literally spent days redesigning my factories to accommodate the massive size of the meat that comes through it. Don't even try to pass these huge models past a conveyor belt diverter as they cant handle it... always getting stuck. This makes sorting other materials that are moving through the system very problematic.

So I need to run an idea past some of the more experienced players/modders here; would it be possible to swap out these huge models for something else? How does this work? Are the physics of any given model calculated by the engine based on the model mesh, or is it embedded in some other meta data along with the mesh or ??

I'd love to use something more realistic for meat, something that doesn't look like it came off the side of an elephant. At this point though I would even be happy if it came out in a cube so long as it actually moved along the conveyors, and sorters without jamming up the whole system.

    Thanks!

What is the highest level a player can get without mods?

    Posted: 16 May 2021 06:55 PM PDT

Because if you do all the DLCs, the main story side with the minutemen brotherhood and railroad, and destroy the institute and help all the settlements in the map including for harbor. What really is the highest level of player can get without using mods?

Am I the only one annoyed by the fact that a legendary military helmet is way weaker than a civilian hat with ballistic weave ?

    Posted: 16 May 2021 09:01 AM PDT

The first one, for example, an Assault Helmet from Far Harbor has 16 to damage resistance when fully upgraded, and the second one, very common can have 110... c'mon Bethesda

fo76 annoying no loot when kill

    Posted: 17 May 2021 01:29 AM PDT

I have a problem where when i kill an enemy and the other players hit it too ex. (scorchbeast queen)

i used 2 mininuke to hit it, which i did the most damage but when its dead i recieved nothing from it, the inventory of the queen is empty... and others too when i and other players kill too, idk is it because of the distance maybe because i am far away from the enemy so the reward is empty or if the other players picked it up first than i wont get it. But its still annoying since i wasted 2 usable ammunition just for no good reason. no rewards and doesnt hesitate to even load it back.

An old Ghouls Guide To Good Grub: Today’s dish: Blood Bugs

    Posted: 16 May 2021 02:46 PM PDT

this is a work of fiction based on my understanding of evolution, biology, and fallout. Please do not use this as reference during the actual apocalypse

Today I'll be teaching you how to eat blood bugs.

Let's go over some basics about blood bugs for those unfamiliar.

A blood bugs are mutated mosquitoes. About the size of a dog. They live near water sources. And feed on the blood of most creatures big enough to feed them. Typically Brahmin. They are attracted to warm blood. So if you find them feeding on a dead creature you may be the next target.

When should you eat them? As far as last resort meals go you can do worse.

What does it taste like: a bit like mirelurk. (Or crab if you remember that far back) Not surprised since they are basically the same. Although there is a distinct bloody taste that can make it a popular stand in for those wanting steak.

Defending yourself from blood bugs: blood bugs will try to latch on to prey and drain them. Their proboscis is lined with a blood thinning chemical so it's important you don't get bit. When trying to kill it you should try to shoot it before it can get close. If they can close the gap a short barreled weapon is ideal. If bullets are scarce long sharp objects like a pitch fork are great alternatives. They also can spit your own blood back at you (they mostly do this to blind you, wearing eye protection can help) They aren't the brightest so it's possible they could impale themselves while trying to attack you. And fire can burn their wings making them easy to kill.

Make sure you use a stimpack or patch your wounds. It's not uncommon for someone to bleed out long after killing one.

How to kill: the best way to kill these without damaging the meat is low caliber options such as a varmint rifle or bow. A sharp long object such as a spear is also good. Fire, explosives, and large caliber weapons will destroy a lot of good meat.

What to avoid: there are some versions that are unsafe for consumption. Glowing blood bugs are tougher to kill and very radioactive. And while vampiric blood bugs are safe to eat they are incredibly dangerous. (You can identify these by their dark red colors) if you are under attack by one of these just blow the thing to bits it's not worth the trouble of trying to eat it.

Preparation: once you have a body to work with start with placing the bug on it's side.

Start with removing the wings, these can simply be removed by hand. They don't have much use so they can be disposed of.

Next cut off the legs by taking a long sharp knife and inserting it into the space between the main body and the leg. Once they are removed, place them to the side these can be eaten

Next remove the proboscis by finding where it connects to the main body under the head. It's made of strong material so you're better off just cutting it off where it connects to the body. Although it's not edible it has a number of uses. Such as a decent source of acid. Or an ingredient in insect repellent and blood thinning agents. I even met some people down south that turned them into spears, rapier, and blowguns. It's worth a bit at most markets. And makes learning to remove it worth the effort.

Next cut out the torso. Do this by placing the knife between the armor segments behind the head and in front of the blood sac. Carefully cut down until you hit some resistance, that's where artery connecting proboscis to the blood sac is try to cut above it to remove the meat.

Once you have the segment removed run the knife under the chitin to remove it. You can also just tear it off but you may lose some meat. Make sure to carefully examine the meat for the remains of ammo. Bitting down on a shotgun pellet can damage your teeth

Now comes the time to cook it. If you can, sear it until cooked through. If you are cooking over fire skewer it and rotate until completely cooked. (If you want to really make it good add some pepper and blood leaf, works wonders)

Now for the legs there are two ways to prepare these.

Either place the legs into a large pot and boil until a nice red color. If you have any add salt, pepper, and blood leaf. Don't be disturbed when the legs start to curl.

Or if your cooking over fire skewer the leg where it connected to the body. Cook until crisp.

Both methods will allow for the legs to be cracked open and the meat to be pulled out. If you have ever eaten crab legs it's a similar experience. Although it makes me wish I had butter.

Bonus Tip: turning the blood sac into a water skin. This is difficult to do and requires a steady hand. Carefully cut the blood sac out without damaging the connecting artery. Boil the entire thing until safe. Once you're done you can fill the sac with water and tie a knot in the artery to seal it off. Although the water does take on a "blood" taste after a while

This method was taught to me by a farmer down south who had lost a good number of Brahmin to these things and was tired of going to sleep hungry

I hope this guide helps. A decent meal can make the wasteland so much more bearable.

Hope this was entertaining to read. Feel free to comment what other creature you want me help you eat

Based on the state of decay, not lore, how long *should* it be since the bombs?

    Posted: 16 May 2021 12:54 PM PDT

Based on the canonical timeline, Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4 are all set about 200 years after the War. However, it only takes a year or two for a corpse to skeletonize (depending on many factors, of course); by two centuries later, they should be dust. The cars look like they were abandoned maybe 30 years ago; some still have paint. Some buildings look like they have hardly been touched by time, and of course there all the guns, robots, safes, and port-a-diners still working with just a spot of rust. If we ignore the canon for a moment and just look at the world as presented, how long has it been?

There are some interesting ideas out there that the bombs killed off most decomposers, partially preserving corpses (edit: this seems to be really happening around Chernobyl). Also, perhaps in the Fallout universe products were built to last rather than with planned obsolescence; this would make sense in a world where resources are scarce. You're welcome to take this speculation into account, I'm curious either way.

For comparison, there are many sites on r/AbandonedPorn which are roughly as run-down as what's shown in the 3D Fallout games. Some are just a few years old, others are indeed a couple centuries abandoned.

I’m looking for a way to delete all of the data on my Xbox for fallout, and wondering if anyone could enlighten me.

    Posted: 16 May 2021 07:46 PM PDT

I mainly want to disconnect my account for downloading mods, but if it's possible if I could delete the save files for all of my characters at once, I will accept advice as well. I want to do a full "cleaning" of fallout, as I made too many characters and downloaded too many mods. It affects the game so much that deleting mods/characters doesn't help with performance anymore.

I'd like to see rideable radstags or brahmin in the next fallout game.

    Posted: 17 May 2021 04:23 AM PDT

I know horses died out lore-wise, but being able to have an animal companion, which you could ride around, store items on, even aid you in combat. Give that mountable horses exist in the elder scrolls games, it shouldn't be to hard to do in engine.
