Why doesn't the NCR garrison abandoned vaults?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 12:20 PM PDT

The Vaults were built to provide food and shelter for hundreds of people and can withstand nuclear weapons. Why doesn't the NCR use them as military fortifications?

What aspect of human DNA did the Institute need from Shaun that they couldn't find from anyone else?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 01:08 PM PDT

People, out in the wasteland and inside the institute, are constantly being born indistinguishable from healthy, non-mutated, pre-war humans. Considering enough human DNA survived for people to produce more people, why wasn't this enough for the institute?

    Timeline of New Vegas events

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 01:31 PM PDT

I made this for personal use (read: fanfiction), but damn if it took a while to piece together! If anyone is as obsessive as me on New Vegas, maybe you guys can help me make sure it's all right here. It has some contributions from the lore of the cancelled Fallout 3 game, Van Buren. I will mark those with italics. The rest comes directly from New Vegas gameplay and dialogue that I collected during a playthrough and some internet discussions by Obsidian.

I was focusing on Desert Rangers, the story of Vault 34, and some of the the Legion's campaigns.

    c. 2226

Caesar is born as Edward Sallow, and rises among the Followers of the Apocalypse sometime within the next 20 years.

    2230

    Boomers leave Vault 34.

    After 2230, before 2281

Vault 34, plagued with overpopulation, suffers discussions of population control. An unsuccessful revolt storms the armory and causes damage to the vault's structure.

At some point, Chris Haversam, the reactor's engineer, leaves Vault 34, assuming his baldness is caused by radiation. The reactor started malfunctioning afterwards (this might be a plothole, not sure).

At some point, radiation leaks into most of the vault's areas, and the damaged vault is unable to be opened from within.

The vault, having been sealed, leaves residents trapped, with the hope that the scheduled opening of the vault door would allow them to leave.

Survivors of the vault's conflict manage to lock themselves in an isolated level of the vault, living free of radiation as the rest of the residents are ghoulified and eventually go feral. Three survivors (or descendants) of this group are alive by 2281.

    2235

New Canaan is founded by Judah Black.

    2246

Caesar, then Edward Sallow, meets Joshua Graham and goes to the Grand Canyon to study tribal languages.

Caesar and Graham formed the Legion, using the Blackfoot tribe.

    2247

A fledgling Legion allies with the Twisted Hairs tribe.

    After 2247

The Hidebarks are subjugated by the Legion in Arizona, becoming the 67th tribe.
This may be Legate Lanius' original tribe.

    After 2247, before 2271

Desert Rangers clash with the Legion in Arizona. The war goes badly for the Rangers, whose numbers quickly dwindle in the region. They are eventually pushed out of Arizona. They had likely been decisively defeated in Arizona by the late 2250's.

    2251

NCR salvagers sent to Denver. NCR retreated soon after due to opposition by Caesar's Legion.

Caesar's Legion has a seasonal slaving camp in Denver. They come west when the radioactive cyclone season starts in the east, and then return afterwards.

    2253

NCR comes to Mojave, while the Brotherhood controls Helios One.

38 NCR citizens are massacred by Mojave raiders, and NCR army battalions begin to be dispatched into the desert.

NCR goes to war with the Fiends.

    2255

Caesar's Legion takes Flagstaff in Arizona, and makes it its capital.

    After 2255, before 2274

Twisted Hairs are betrayed by Vulpes Inculta, and subjugated by the Legion.

Between late 2250's and early 2260's

The NCR declares war on the Brotherhood of Steel.

    Between 2269 and 2270

The "Pacification of the Mojave", led by General Kimball, occurs in retaliation to the 2253 Mojave massacre. It is a draconian campaign that leads to the extirpation of tribals and raiders from the area of Sierra Nevada and Bullhead City, and ending 17 years of warfare for the NCR.

    After 2270

Caesar's Legion takes control of Bullhead City and surrounding area

    2271

The Ranger Unification Treaty is signed in order to combat the threat of Caesar's Legion, incorporating the Desert Rangers into the NCR military forces, as NCR Rangers. The terms of the treaty force the NCR to defend Nevada from annexation by the Legion (I think this might have been a result of Bullhead City having been taken, maybe the Desert Rangers felt surrounded).

    2272

The Mojave Outpost is established at the spot of the signing of the Ranger Unification Treaty.

    2273

The NCR begins to push their expansion into the Mojave, seeking to annex tribals.

Followers came to Mojave, assisting NCR.

NCR reaches and occupies Hoover Dam, coming into conflict with the Mojave Chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel.

General Kimball retires from military service and begins his political career.

    c. Between 2273 and 2274

Having recognized NCR scouts as members of an organized military force, Mr. House recruits the tribes of New Vegas in order to renovate the city and prepare for contact with the large nation.

    2274

President Kimball is elected and orders the occupation of Hoover Dam as his first act in office.

The NCR encounters the Three Families of New Vegas and Mr. House. The Treaty of New Vegas is signed.

The Mojave Brotherhood begins to engage in guerrilla warfare against the NCR.

Legion becomes aware of the Dam, as well as of the NCR.

Victor was already in Goodsprings, when Trudy opened the saloon.

    After 2274, before 2277

The Divide (area of independent cities Ashton and Hopeville) was a rising community that was soon sought out by the NCR as a supply line for their expansion effort.

    2275

Many Followers split from the main group, forming the NCR's Office of Science and Industry

NCR officially breaks ties with the Followers of the Apocalypse.

    Between 2275 and 2276

Caesar's Legion gradually assembles forces east of the Colorado river.

NCR scouting parties fail to return from Legion territory, alerting the Republic to incoming threat.

    Sometime here maybe

The "5 deaths of Graham" turn the legate into a legend, as he survives five reported kills by NCR Rangers.

    2276

In October, Operation: Sunburst pushes Brotherhood out of Helios One, halving their manpower in the process, and forcing them into hiding.

    c. 2277

Legion contests the annexation of The Divide by NCR.

The Divide is inadvertently destroyed by the Courier, being rendered impassable.

    2277

The Battle of Hoover Dam pushes the Legion across the Colorado river, back to Arizona.

    After 2277

Legate Graham is thrown off the Grand Canyon.

Legate Lanius leads a campaign to conquer Colorado, in order to replenish the loss of manpower incurred at Hoover Dam.

Legion arrives in Denver and annexes the Hangdogs, employing the survivors as houndmasters.

Sometime during the campaign, the Twin Mothers are obliterated, and the recipe of their morphine-like medicine (known as Bitter Drink) is incorporated into the Legion. It saves many soldiers during forced marches, as the injured are able to keep up with the main force.

    2278

The Bitter Springs Massacre occurs, and the NCR loses support in the region.

    The NCR-Khan War officially ends.

    After 2278, before 2281

The Great Khans ally Caesar's Legion.

Legion takes Nelson and destroys Searchlight.

    c. 2279

Marcus leaves Black Mountain and founds Jacobstown.

Tabitha reforges Black Mountain into the State of Utobitha.

    2281

    Legion destroys Nipton.

    Vault 34 has 3 living non-mutated members.

Boomers meet an outsider 51 years after leaving the vault.

    New Canaan is destroyed.

Why do different vaults have different pip boys?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 12:18 AM PDT

Vault 13 (And I assume all the other vaults in fallout 1) and vault 76 all had pip boy 2000s, but everywhere else in fallout 3, 4, and new Vegas have 3000s? Why?

Massive Wiki Update: Infoboxes for Character Pages Got a New Coat of Paint

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:38 PM PDT

Hey guys, Scribe-Howard (or waster93) here. I just got done writing the code for the massive character infoboxes change I've been meaning to do for weeks.

Instead of 1 HUGE info pane, the information has been neatly stored into 3 separate tabs - Biography, Stats and Technical. Here is what the boxes now look like.

This has been retroactively applied to every single character page on the website. Enjoy brushing up on your lore with some much deserved ease of access!

    • This change applies to both Desktop and Mobile view - and is primarily motivated to improve the mobile experience.
    • I'm aware a lot of users are used to seeing the IDs for console commands, but I really can't display these in a way that isn't overload for the casual users.
    • I was considering making additional changes that replace field headings with icon sprites. For example, replacing the "Stats" tab with the 20-sided dice sprite for the Fallout 76 Roleplaying Public Team. Would this lead to a positive or negative user experience for you all?
    • Here is a link to Grahm's page so you can play around
    • Some 76 users might have seen some other QOL updates I've been trying out. This is not the first and is far from the last major update in the works.

How did the Church of the Children of Atom come to be?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:33 PM PDT

Through all my now years of playing the FO games and reading up on their history, I feel like the origin of the CoA was never truly explained.

The earliest I know of them is that, shortly after the Great War, they helped clear the area around Megaton and build up walls around the soon-to-be town. But it seems like at that time they already were a religion/cult.

But it's never truly explained, how their religion came to be, is it? Like, did some dude have an epiphany as he saw the bombs explode and got enough people along to follow him?
Whereof came their idea, their concept of Atom as a holy creator?

Was it simply too much Jet?

Are there any references of Appalachia other than the location of Vault 76 in FO3 or FO4?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 10:57 PM PDT

Specifically, what has happened to Appalachia in 2277 or even 2287? (Sorry if this has been discussed)

Can the NCR establish full control over the Mojave?

What kind of weather patterns can we see in the Fallout World as a result of the Great War?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 08:03 PM PDT

One of the weather patterns that was a result of the Great War are the Rad Storms, but would there also be Rad Tornados or anything like that?

What are the weapons and armor of the Legion?

How many nukes did U.S. actually get off?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 05:37 PM PDT

We had a nuclear sub commander desert with the launch key. The great divide was seemingly a nice place to be, (presumably thanks to House,) till a courier opened a nuclear football and activated the region? No real reason those missiles shouldn't have retaliated to my knowledge.

Enclave in Applachia used the scorched beasts to raise defcon to try and launch the arsenal?

Every time I turn around I see second hand accounts of the U.S. retailiating because it had reports of an attack, but I don't see anywhere we know auccessfully nukes launched from Stateside?

Aren't most of our nuclear arsenal in what would be the great divide?

From my perspective it almost looks like the U.S. was caught offguard by a stealth tech assault and failed to launch anything due to combinations of shock, surprise, faint heartedness, or hesitancy. I'd even say Chinese sabatoge may have been a large element aswell, but that is pure speculation.

Could other countries have done China and each other in by retaliating in respond to detecting nuclear strikes on the U.S.?

    Fort Wheaton

Much of the bunker is destroyed and caved in. What remains accessible is the primary shaft, bereft of an ICBM but with lingering radioactive contamination, and a portion of the lower level store rooms.

Sounds like it got a shot off atleast.

The CO quarters contain the Fort Constantine launch codes stored in a small safe in the cellar next to the big guns bobblehead. These can be used to launch the ICBM in the Fort Constantine launch control terminal in the launch control bunker.

    Constantine didn't fire.

    All these single silo sites.

Why is diamond city called a city?

It's basically a small town in a stadium, do these people not know what a city is?
