Difference between lore and real life science.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2021 06:53 AM PDT

I appreciate this thread and everyone who posts to it and gets involved, my pet peeve being that a lot of us will try too hard to find links between our world and the fallout universe.

For the most part i can see its just curiosity and inquisitiveness that drive the questions and fair play for pushing the boundaries of knowledge, but on the other hand, with us picking at every little detail in the game and how unreal it can be seems a little like we're missing the point of the thread. Lore is lore, no matter what universe you look at and for me personally it should just be respected as is. These worlds are created by people like us to give people like us an escape or an opportunity to step inside a world where you can do what you want.

Comparing these worlds based on how the real world works seems like its counter productive and shouldnt be used to argue any point regarding lore?

Just feel like we're on a knife edge for consumers wanting video games to be more realistic with how the science of things work. If we're wanting our fantasy to mix with reality then we might as well go out into the world and frisbee a grenade into a group people and see how we feel about realism then.

But hey, im just the dad who can find a problem in anything

How common were simple energy weapons before The Great War?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2021 06:33 PM PDT

I remember reading that ballistic weapons like a gun or a shotgun alongside pipe weapons were common during the pre Great War America. I believe I have also read that gamma based weapons were a very late sort of advancement, but I haven't seen much about energy cell/weapons. Were they something an ordinary citizen o former military could have bought with almost as much ease as a regular weapon? These were people living with most things being powered by nuclear energy anyways.

House had anti-nuke technology. Why didn't the US government have the same?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2021 05:41 AM PDT

House managed to both predict the nuclear war and develop anti-nuke technology to protect Las Vegas. Why didn't the US government do the same? Surely the US government would have much better funding than House and be able to devise anti-nuke technology, so why didn't they?

Is there a canonical reason why there is ammo where it isn't supposed to be?

Population of the NCR and Legion?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2021 06:39 AM PDT

Like, approximately. Are we talking millions (in the NCR's case) or more likely thousands? I am just looking for rough estimates based on in-game lore, I can't recall any specific mention, but maybe you guys know something.

why arent there any horses around?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2021 04:08 AM PDT

Seriusly horses would be relly usefull they are way faster than a human allowing you to send information way faster. I mean knights conqured the entirety of europe in the middle ages. It could provide a very good draft animal it could make communication alot easier for people who dont have radio it would allow you to herd animals. they can also outrun pretty much anything dangerous and yeah for a faction like the brotherhood of the ncr they might not be very useful but for more primitive wastelanders they would be amazing.

The usa has about 95 thousand wild horses. That is more then enough to spread across the wasteland and thats not even counting the horses that would escape from farms and stabels. And they as previusly mentioned they are faster than pretty much evrything except for bullets. and i mean cows survived probably without much human help so why shouldnt horses?
