My job has been giving me major fallout vibes since the pandemic started.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 05:09 PM PST

You know how in fallout 4 you can walk around the abandoned buildings and they have Halloween decorations up, and all the calendars are set to October 2077? Well I'm a night guard and all the calendars and posters are set to March 2020, there's even a couple of March madness banners. It's a weird, but familiar feeling lol.

Exploring the arcane horrors of Dunwich Borers

It took me forever to make it through this. It was well worth it, but I realized that I'm not quite done yet. Now it's time to return and finish exploring the well. It's so cool that the ghouls have the names of the original miners.

Isn’t it kind of weird the Sole Survivor says nothing when they kill a person for the first time?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:44 PM PST

Like, they'll mention how weird it is that there are giant roaches, but when they kill someone for the first time in the wasteland they don't go "Oh my god I killed a guy" or "this is the war all over again" or something. Just thought it was a weird detail how they're completely unfazed by killing raiders for the first time.
Edit: Here's a concept I thought of: having you mention you killing people to Preston. That way you could choose your response to your first kill. I.E "Oh god, I think I'm going to vomit" or "I FEEL ALIVE! I AM BECOME DEATH DESTROYER OF WORLDS!"

Where do slave collars come from?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:23 PM PST

Hey, I'm new to this sub, so sorry if this has been asked before, but... Who made the collars? Unless they were meant to keep military prisoners, I can't imagine them being used pre-war. Raiders or slavers can't make such sophisticated tech, and the enclave doesn't keep slaves. Who made em?

How to fix Preston and the Minutemen

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 02:09 AM PST

Just got around and finished the game in a Minutemen ending. After repeat stopped playthroughs I managed to take it all in and just decided to go with the Minutemen ending.

I have several in mind to how they can be improved upon, so that we can be at least be invested in them. Out of all the factions in Fallout 4, they are my top pick as wasted opportunity and potential. Because Minutemen are neatly tied to Settlement building, their lore and history, I found quite lacking. So here's my ideas and just some takes. Take it as you will.

    1. Preston shouldn't be this too trusting to a complete stranger. I'm aware that they're desperate, but I found that it's too overwhelming that he instantly jumps into straight up promoting you to its leader. I get that he's desperate, but give us a bit of breathing space before climbing up to a General rank. It doesn't feel earned and just felt like an empty achievement. Have the player take up a senior position, or at least someone Preston could follow, minus the ranks first and then slowly work our way up into General. Maybe even tie his affinity quest to have him vote for you as their leader.
    2. Radiant Quests are something of a meme in the community. Personally I don't mind them, but over time, they can be quite a chore. Apart from rescuing settlers, killing raiders and defending settlements. It would be nice if it had something related to settlement building. Like securing supply lines, finding missing supply caravans, securing advance points and setting up command posts and the likes. Anything to make it feel like you're actually building up the faction. In the game, there's not alot of Minutemen quests, just settlement-related quests.
    3. More Unique quests to contribute to the growth of the faction or just faction-related quests. Old Guns was a breath of fresh air in the Minutemen questline. It would have been awesome if you have a quest to reunite Minutemen Veterans into the fold and have them help you managing the faction. Maybe conduct an assault skirmish on Gunner Outposts, something to dive deeper into the war between Minutemen and Gunners. And eventually will accumulate into you being promoted into a General, with the vote of the reunited Minutemen Veterans and newblood. Or even better, maybe settle disputes between settlements and Minutemen dissenters. Because realistically, not everyone will share the same sentiments to you, especially in the Minutemen that some of your men won't be fond of you rising up in mere hours of service.
    4. Have Preston do something instead of just giving quests and meandering around Sanctuary Hills. Have him do recruitments, training new bloods and setting up guards on settlement borders or whatnot. Have other Minutemen NPCs give quests localized quests, not just Preston or Radio Freedom.
    5. Have the ability to assign caravan guards to your supply caravans. I get that you can arm your Provisioners with armor and guns, but it would be cool to see them being escorted by 1 or 2 Minutemen members. Kinda like how NPC traders have guards.
    6. Speaking of guards, we need more Unique Minutemen NPCs, aside from the mentioned Veterans. Would have been nice if each Major Settlement, there would be at least 1 or 2 named Minutemen NPCs, new recruits, reformed misfits, black sheeps and the likes. Or better yet have a named NPC on those settlements become members. Like Mr. Abernathy from the Abernathy Farms or Jake from Finch Farms etc.
    7. Clearing Quincy should be a quest and should have a big impact on the faction. It's just a shame the game never lets you have this closure for them. Personally I would be absolutely be invested in the Siege/Retaking Quincy as the final faction questline for the Minutemen. I know mods already have done this but it would be nice to have it included in the main game.
    8. I'm sure most of you already has suggested this but a legit Minutemen route for Nuka World DLC is a must. And not just the kill all genocide option. I mean a legit questline of maybe helping a small detachment of Minutemen establish themselves on that area.

Any way that's all I'm thinking of. Take it as you will, these are just my personal thoughts. Thanks for reading.

My brother had a fallout wedding

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 05:27 PM PST

I figured you guys would enjoy this. My older bro just got married and he had it fallout themed, they had it at the real goodsprings, the lady who voiced trudy (who is very nice, gave us some fallout things) was the person who did the vows and all that (don't remeber what it's called), and him and his fiancé vows were video game themed, had fun and thought yall would enjoy.

Ps: if you do go to goodsprings the saloon is a biker bar and I gotta say they're all super nice people, 10/10

(spoilers for Fallout 2 and 3) I've realized the reverse situation you use to end the Enclave in both games.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:40 PM PST

In Fallout 2 there was a sciencist who you could convince not to end humanity as we know it, again. All you had to do was pass a few speech checks and have high intelligence, and then you somehow convince him that the mainland humans are just the next step in human evolution, but they still preserve humanity that he enjoys and loves, and that he shouldn't feel threatened from the philosophical point of view.
On the other hand... In Fallout 3 the situation is reversed. The Enclave doesn't want to end humanity, they just want to control major things to remain in power, and then there is Eden who just goes "you know, it would be real nice, if all things not ours would die, can you help me?".
The irony is that in Fallout 2 the Enclave wanted to kill everyone and you used one guy to kill them back on the Oil Rig.
And in Fallout 3 the Enclave didn't really want to kill that many people, but you can convince Eden to activate his "Enclave Fallout 2 Persona" to destroy the Enclave in Fallout 3.
    That is...
    A reference...
To say the least. Or merely accidental irony.

Why did the institute build Synths in the first place?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 12:45 AM PST

I've been a fallout fan for a long time and played fallout 4 extensively but never fully understand why they build synths. Why not use robots? Why build synth gorillas? Why infiltrate diamond city? If they need resources they seem like they could easily take them by force with the gen 1 synths. Why make almost biological humans and deny them rights when even they can't tell they're synths?

What is something you always collect and never sell or scrap?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 06:18 PM PST

I was playing some Fallout 3 on my Xbox tonight and as I added another teddy bear to my collection in my Megaton house, I realized that teddy bears are something across every Fallout game I've played that I always try to collect and preserve. So I want to know if anyone else has an item that they can't really part without any version of it? Like a gun type you can't ever sell, or a piece of junk like my teddy bears.

Can't escape Oil Rig (Fallout 2)

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 04:11 AM PST

So I'm able to convince Tom Murray to shut off the reactor which results in the ten minute countdown.

To escape I go back to the staircase to the presidential wing but there's only one exit because the other is blocked by a blast door. I go to that staircase which takes me to the barracks, but there's a guard blocking the doorway which is the only way out. Can't attack him because there's 8 soldiers in power armor right behind him who'll gangbang me.

I don't know if this is intentional or not but there's no way to escape if you get Tom to shut off the reactor. The blast doors on the presidential wing can't be blow up.

    A Thought on Synths

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 05:15 PM PST

I was thinking about danse and the whole synth problem and it occurred to me that the brotherhood calls all synths "machines". Even the railroad thinks they are sentient machines. But if you think about it they aren't even machines they are just human beings with mind control chips, the synth component in the brain is the only mechanical piece.

Music featured in the Fallout Series and updating Fallout wiki

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 06:33 PM PST

So, I haven't really posted here before, but I've been in the process of uploading lots of Fallout music videos so Fallout wiki can be updated. I've updated literally every song videos up to Fallout 76, which is a WIP, but everything else is essentially done.

In my quest, I've uploaded high quality unfiltered versions of songs from, for example, Enclave Radio and the Vault 101 PA System and I'm currently working on uploading all the classical music and revamping the entire wiki page with all the sources for all the classical music.

In my quest, I even documented all the songs from Fallout: BOS because it seems like no one actually ever uploaded all the ambient music from the game, just the metal tracks. Found a whole bunch of cut songs from New Vegas that seemingly only one person on Reddit actually documented and cut sons from Fallout 4 that no one seemed to know about. If you want to check the stuff out, you can check my YT playlists: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq4qWwPBzZEw6f7_QaY9FVg/playlists

All of this started because I've been making a complete lossless collection for all music in the Fallout series, which I'm still working on! Feel free to DM me if you'd like to get your hands on it!

Do I buy New Vegas or Fallout 3?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:18 AM PST

For reference, I have thousands of hours in Fallout 4, Modded and Vanilla. I have played and beaten New Vegas before on console not delving too much into side quests, just trying to beat the game. I have played about 40 minutes of Fallout 3, I enjoyed both thoroughly. I am not asking which is "better" as I believe they are both great games and there is no need to compare the two, I only ask which the community thinks I should buy based on how the current modding scenes are doing and whether discovering Fallout 3 for the "first" time would be more enjoyable than developing my experience in New Vegas, however brief it already is. I thank you for reading this look forward to reading your thoughts.

Fallout 4 Creation Club Settlement Items are a joke

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:49 PM PST

This is just a personal take but I despise the settlement packs on the Creation Club {except for the Ambush Kit but a lot of the stuff should've been in the game since day one), why tf do I want pink floors or wooden tables so clean that they could blind mfs halfway across map if placed the wrong. I'm building a fucking settlement in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with big green sherks and literal fucking walking tanks yet they want me to buy a pack for a Mfing donut shop?

In all seriousness though it's like what am I suppose to use this for? It looks awful, its either too clean to look normal compared to other items and makes it instantly pops out or it's some bright ass hot pink, getting to the point where you might have a seizure if you turn the camera fast enough. Personally I spend a decent chunk of my time building settlement so this isn't such a big problem to others as it is to me but some new walls, decorations, gates, defenses, etc, would've been much nicer then some donut shop or noir style place I'll never use.
