Played Old World Blues again, and I realized how sad it is

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 08:33 AM PST

When you look past the funny dialogue and wacky tech, the story of Big MT and the Think Tank is so tragic. The once most brilliant minds on Earth, who only wanted to help humanity, are now blubbering abominations who are now barely aware of what they're doing, due to mental degradation and loss of their humanity. There's Dr Dala, who's "fascination" with the human anatomy clearly suggest that she misses her human form a lot, and if the broken mirrors in her house are any suggestion, she didn't take the transition well. Then you have Dr Borous, who's implied to have been bullied in school, and in turn took his anger out on his dog, Gabe. When you confront him about his cruelty to his dog, he breaks down and deletes his own memories, to avoid feeling guilty about Gabe. And the "villain" behind the roboscorpions, Dr Mobious, is a senile, drug addled old man who can barely string a coherent sentence together, who only want to stop his friends from inflicting terror upon the outside world.

Then you have the Big MT crater itself, which is full of reminders of what was and what could've been. And you discover that the old world was just as cruel as the new one. From deadly weapons, to experimenting on live creatures, to Chinese concentration camps, you learn of this place's cruel history, and realize that the sciencists of the Think Tank weren't good people even before the war.

The melancholy feeling is even more amplified during night, where the combination of eerie silence and the starry sky giving the impression that this place is frozen in time, the shining lights of the Think Tank and the Mobious dome the only indicator that someone else is here. You can choose to put the Think Tank out of their misery, thus leaving Big MT truly frozen in time, or you can give it purpose in the new world.

Either way, I just wanted to write up how sad and melancholy this DLC is once you look past the humor and B movie aesthetic. This DLC is always praised for it's humor and wackiness, but almost nobody talks about how the story and setting are truly melancholy amd depressing, and why this is my favorite DLC. What do you think about Old World Blues?

Anybody else enjoy the lonely atmosphere of the Mojave?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 10:24 PM PST

I hear a lot of people complain how there isn't enough to do on the map. I really enjoy that it's not full of the small shitty dungeons like Bethesda's works, honestly. I definitely do wish there was a little bit more in some areas, but it's cool to just stroll around the southern half of the map with the ambiance and just peace out for a few minutes.

Hell, I enjoy when it gets sort of... spooky, without being explicitly so. Like, heading off to Zion and you just take in that feeling of being watched despite there not being much activity outside of the tribal camps, stroll into one of the old cabins and really feel like you're in a ghost of the past, seeing the remnants of people from 200 years ago.

Fallout new vegas currently has 1000 more players on steam than fallout 76..

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 12:44 PM PST

The player base is more than double the amount it usually is, I'm guessing everyone is playing the frontier. It's good to see how alive this game still is! Especially the modding community

    Dead Money: Masochist Mode complete.

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 01:58 AM PST

Apologies in advance, but the only proof I can give you guys right now is my word. Believe me or not, but I did actually do everything below, and knowing that is enough for me. :)

(I have close to 11 hours of uncut footage. I will hopefully make a YouTube video on this in the future.)

    Obv spoilers ahead.

About 4 days ago, I decided that I wanted to cry myself to sleep a little more than usual. It seemed like I had also been hearing a lot more of my friends talk about the "insane difficulty" of Dead Money. So I embarked on a quest.

The rules are simple. Complete the Dead Money DLC with the following modifiers.

Enter the DLC at LV1, hardcore mode active, game difficulty maxed, no quicksave/quickload, must save all companions, must get all 37 gold bars, permadeath.

This took me 4 days. This was harder than any Dark Souls game I've ever played. This was harder than no hit Sans. This was harder than I've ever been after 9-ironing Mr. House. When I finally succeeded, my soul left me for a solid 30 minutes.

Hearing Elijah scream in agony as he was trapped in the vault gave me more satisfaction than I could ever hope to give my nonexistent wife. As I exited the Villa, I was shaking more than a meth addict with Parkinson's. My heart rate was 190bpm, and my blood pressure was somewhere around 220/140. The Sierra Madre, having been robbed of its fortune, stood looming in the distance. I sent a silent, prayerful middle finger to the memory of Fredrick Simpclair, and left the DLC for good.

Never in my life do I want to hear someone say Dead Money is too difficult again. I'm about 90% sure this was probably the most difficult thing that can be done base game, unless I come up with a Lonesome Road challenge of a similar caliber.

I'm more than happy to clarify and share methods in the comments. I am fully aware that I have the polar opposite of a life, so please don't bring that to my attention. :)

My boyfriend just played the Frontier today and it was hilarious

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 08:59 AM PST

So he was playing the introduction with the big fight and all, a sad cutscene start playing and, as the camera move back, every time a cadaver is in range, the quickloot menu open xD

He got an unstoppable laugh sawing that and, just when he want to explain what was so funny, it happen again on two other cadaver just before the end of the cutscene.

Probably because the camera is still the player ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sadly he didn't get a screenshot in time because of the "would you like to skip" popup and steam slow screenshot speed...

How to build perfect SPECIAL(10) and skills(100) character

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 07:46 AM PST

    (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

Going to play a new game on very hard + hardcore mode. All add-ons. What to prepare in order to have all SPECIAL at 10 and all skills at 100 at the end.

At lvl 4 I'll take Educated and at lvl 6 I'll take Comprehension and map all skillbooks.

How to get perfect SPECIAL though?

I'm not sure if I should have a high Intelligence for a high skill point distribution or a high Endurance for a higher maximum of implants.

I've played the game before so spoilers are okay.

How to remaster Fallout New Vegas

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 09:29 AM PST

I recently got a new pc and the first game I want to replay is fnv but the game shows its age . I am looking for the perfect list of mods to make it feel more up to date . Mostly quality of life mods and texture mods and maybe uncut stuff . I am not looking for mods that add new content like guns and/or large new locations. Thank you for reading

Anybody else wish we could see Benny’s plan through?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 02:33 AM PST

I know he tried to kill us and we spend the first part of the main story tracking him down for revenge but he's still so interesting to me.

He's got the chip, he's got a way to take over House's system, he's got influence on the strip and he's got a cool suit. I wish we could have had the chance to change our minds about him and help him take over the strip.

Ultimately it would probably be a bad ending for almost everyone in Nevada but still...

What should my SPECIAL look like for a Gehenna build (Vanilla)

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 07:14 AM PST

I'm planning on using pretty much only the Gehenna once I get it. I'm stuck at my Special though, since I've never done a melee build before on NV. Currently its looking like

    9 Strength
    5 Perception
    8 Endurance
    1 Charisma
    5 Intelligence
    3 Agility
    9 Luck

I really don't know if this would work for it. I've never used it, but it looks suuuper cool with Pyromaniac/Chems/Poison. Its my favorite melee, so any other melee build advice would be 10/10. I might use the "Oh Baby" instead, but I need advice since I've never done melee and am not sure how important crits are in it.

Peaceful Yes Man is arguably the best ending

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 10:38 PM PST

So the main argument against going independent is that in the long run, the couriers rule will fall due to it all relying on him and his army of robots.

This is true, but I have devised a master plan that fully involves this inevitable event.

The yes man ending, more than any other ending allows for you to decide/imagine what happens next.

So let's say that you take the peaceful route and convince general Oliver to not throw his men's lives at your big ass securitron army and you then let him go. This is the most diplomatic way to deal with the NCR which is important to why I think this ending works the best.

The NCR as a faction is morally the best, the legion is too inhumane and will fall apart when Caesar dies, house is very capable of running Vegas but is kind of a capitalist, and shows no interest in the Mojave itself, just the strip.

The NCR's main downfall however is its overextension, and incompetence, taking land it simply doesn't have the manpower to maintain, if you play through cass's quest you can see this flaw in full swing, trading caravans are getting shot up left and right, one of them right down the street from the literal Mojave outpost.

I think the NCR is the ideal faction to govern the Mojave, but as they are in the story they are simply incapable of being able to protect the people of the Mojave in return for walking up and claiming their land then imposing taxes upon the settlers. Many traders decide to move to legion owned areas instead, not because they agree with caesars ideals but because as a government the legion is far more capable of delivering its promises than the NCR

With yes mans ending however you'd solve multiple problems as long as you're lenient with the NCR

By getting the NCR to leave you wouldn't necessarily be crippling them, their main flaw of overextension would be fixed, the NCR could get its stuff together and establish a firm hold over its land, so they'd actually be able to protect traders in their territory.

The Mojave on the other hand, would still be dangerous, but definitely safer if the courier has good karma, the courier could use his newfound army of war machines to patrol trading routes, protect villages such as primm and goodsprings. However, these securitrons wouldn't last forever, eventually they'd run out of ammo or be destroyed, even if the courier made constant supply runs.

And that brings me to the final stage of my GRAND PLAN

The couriers reign over the Mojave would essentially be babysitting, the NCR is fully capable of governing the Mojave, but they lack the manpower to actually protect the common settlers they impose taxes upon. By the time all of the securitrons are defunct, the NCR should have spent this time properly preparing to take the Mojave as the general makes very clear when you cuckold him at the dam. The courier could allow the more capable NCR to take hoover dam and the strip. Effectively achieving the same results as the NCR ending but with their biggest weakness of overextension removed.

The main threat to this plan would be the legion, however I don't think the courier would struggle too much with that. Lanius is a prime example of the Peter Principle, he's great at killing stuff, but as a leader? As a successor to Caesar? Probably not. The legion under lanius would essentially be a bunch of barbarians, and with the fact that the courier can majorly cripple them in the main quest and is probably very capable of doing so again with an army of securitrons I don't think Lanius would reach the rank of plan-ruiner.

And there you have it, my master plan to bring order to the Mojave.
