My favorite quote in Fallout 4 Posted: 10 Jan 2021 05:04 PM PST I'm replaying the game rn and try to go for platinum (only two trophies left-yay!). And I can't believe how much I missed some of the characters in this game (not you, Preston): Cait, Hancock, Danse's sexy voice...but most of all, my boy Nick. Nick, Synth, but most human of them all. And I forgot his comment, when the Prydwen arrived after clearing out Fort Hagen: "Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing..." Damn, I got goosebumps all over, it is such a powerful scene. Yeah, it gets me every time. Sorry for rambling, I'm just enjoying this game right now, after a hiatus of a few years. Have a wonderful day, everyone. [link] [comments] |
Raiders and the Tone of Fallout Posted: 10 Jan 2021 04:52 AM PST I was in the shower earlier--no, really--and was thinking about the history of Fallout. Not the history of the game franchise, though that comes later, but the fictional march of ages that occurs within the games themselves. I realized that, for me, raiders are a symptom of what is tonally wrong with Fallout 4. It may not be wrong for you, dear reader, and that's fine but let me explain my thinking. In the early isometric games, the world was truly a wasteland. In the first game, you emerged from a vault, knowing nothing about the world or the dangers in it. Your character was as naïve about the world as you were as the player. In the second game, your character was part of the wasteland but as a group of isolated primitives barely eking out an existence. In both cases, there was a sense of wonder as you set out into the world. There were mutant animals (and mutant humans, as you'd discover), burn out wrecks of towns, and humans living a hardscrabble existence however they could. Life was desperate, dirty, messy, and often short. The tone of the games conveyed this. Fallout 3 and New Vegas moved things forward into the ruins of civilization. This was novel and has a lot to recommend it. I might prefer the barren desert vistas outside Vegas but I didn't dislike the Capital Wasteland. It was novel and fresh and moved the series forward. There have been a lot of words written about how the look of Fallout 4 doesn't really match the facts of the fictional history. Bodies remain in diners that are supposedly open for business, everything is run down, and no one owns a broom. A lot of it doesn't make sense. And that's because Bethesda is trying to map a specific tone from the older games onto a fictional situation that doesn't fit. It's been many decades. Surely things should be better? While thinking about all this, I realized that raiders are part of the problem for me. In New Vegas, you had organized gangs that threatened you and it was pretty neat. It had already moved the narrative in a particular direction though and one that changes the tone of the games pretty substantially. In the older games, you set out into an empty wasteland, lousy with mutated creatures to meet and die horrifically to. You had the sense that you might be the only human for miles. Sometimes, when you ran into a single human or small group of them in a building somewhere, it was with surprise. Sure, sometimes those humans were hostile raiders but part of what made that horrible was the implication that these people cared more about improving their lives at the expense of others than the fact that humanity was on the brink of extinction. It isn't an accident that the plot in Fallout 4 revolves around a potentially apocalyptic event: the replacement of humans with synths. It presents an apocalyptic plot because the world of Fallout 4 is no longer post-apocalyptic. Sure, the world is shit. It's hostile. There are horrible mutated creatures. But left to their own devices, humans don't really feel like they are on the brink of extinction. I can't step out my front door without tripping over another human, usually one that wants to kill me for my underwear. And I have a 10mm for that guy. In the end, I still enjoy Fallout. I'll play the next one! And I think the series is moving in an interesting direction. But I've realized that the series is missing that sense of wonder, that sense of being the only sentient being for miles, that mysterious wasteland. It's missing a sense of hopelessness, which is an odd thing to yearn for now that I type it out. I enjoy Fallout but the march of fictional history means that it will never be what I miss about the series, nor should it. And that's fine. But now I want a new series. One that can be those things. Fallout 3’s enclave has much more depth than the Fallout 2 enclave Posted: 10 Jan 2021 12:27 PM PST I'm tired of the notion that Fallout 3 is purely black and white choices because I believe that the morality that is presented in Fallout 3 is on par and sometimes surpasses all the other games. The enclave in fallout 2 are presented as the comically evil faction: people who are obsessed with the plan to eradicate all mutants and mutated humans. In fact, I think Fallout 2's enclave are more concerned with killing "mutated" humans than they are with actual mutants. That's pretty much it, you have some funny characters thrown in like Dornan the drill sergeant and Richardson but that's about as far as the depth goes imo. This isn't bad however because it fits with the theme that fallout 2 has. It's easy to laugh at just how blind the enclave in fallout 2 are to what's going on in the wasteland, which makes sense because they are on the oil rig far from any sort of post war civilization. Fallout 3 has 2 versions of the enclave, there is Eden's enclave, and there is Autumns enclave and the way they want to attack the problems in the wasteland are very different. Eden is much closer to the Fallout 2 enclave in that he wants to eradicate all mutated things. The difference is that he is more sympathetic and has more to him than just an evil bad guy. Eden realizes that killing all mutated humans is a sacrifice but he believes that sacrifices must be made for the greater good. Killing all mutants isn't his main goal however, Eden wants to return order to the wasteland and make it what it once was. Autumn's enclave is very different, Autumn leads most of the enclave soldiers and they listen more to Autumn than to Eden. Autumn has at its core, a good plan. He wants to give pure water to the people of the wasteland so that he can make people trust the enclave to rebuild and to get behind the enclaves motivations. The difference between the BoS and the enclave here though is that Autumn takes what he wants by force often by killing people to negotiate. It's also important to note that the BoS aren't the best saviours of the wasteland, In fact quite the opposite. The BoS, while it has good intentions, ultimately aren't doing anything for the long term goals of the Capital Wasteland. Both Elder Lyons and Eden acknowledge the fact that they can't just keep stemming the tide of the mutated threats. Lyons realizes that he is running out of troops and supplies. There's also the fact that they seemingly haven't made much progress in the 20 years that they have been there. To me it's honestly not clear what the good option is here. Do you get behind the Brotherhoods goals of liberating DC to help the people survive in the present even if there is no long term plan? Or do you see what the Enclave is trying to accomplish by deciding that the long term stability is more important than the sacrifices involved. Unfortunately, you can't join the enclave's ranks in Fallout 3... If you could, I'm sure that many people would do so. It really confuses me when people say that Fallout 3's enclave is just fallout 2's but without the depth because I think that the changes made to both the Enclave and the Brotherhood make the game much more interesting and less black and white than fallout 2. Did anyone else think this was Jezebel's Backstory (Automatron)? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 04:30 PM PST Above the Cellblock with the gouls you find a terminal with descriptions of each criminal and why they are a candidate for brain extraction for use in the brainbots. The last Entry (from memory) is a 33 year old woman, who is military, and considered highly intelligent. It seems like it fits the description of Jezebel. Anyone else make this connection? Or are there other explanations for who she was (or perhaps she has no backstory) [link] [comments] |
Old World Blues is the best Fallout New Vegas DLC, change my mind. Posted: 10 Jan 2021 11:00 PM PST I've always enjoyed the atmosphere of the DLC itself, and I want to see if someone can try and change my mind and say how [insert fallout nv DLC] is the best. [link] [comments] |

The Best Outcome for "Diamond City Blues" Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:56 PM PST I've played through that highly depressing quest of Paul Pembrooke and Henry Cook. That is one truly dynamic quest with lots of outcomes. The best outcome I got so far was this:

Why do the Enclave kill the Vault Dwellers in the Fallout 2 intro? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 02:57 PM PST I've been thinking about this recently and it just strikes me as odd. If their whole plan is to eradicate all irradiated life, why kill the Vault Dwellers who aren't irradiated? They're the Enclave so they should already know which vaults serve what purposes so why attack this random vault if they know it doesn't have FEV-II? It's not Vault 13 because there's sky in the background and Vault 13 is in a cave. The only conclusions I can come to are that either:
I feel like conclusion one is far more likely. [link] [comments] |
Wazer Wifle isn't firing anymore. Posted: 10 Jan 2021 07:59 PM PST I recently got the Wazer Wifle from Shaun, and I added an automatic barrel to it. Everything was fine until the ammo count ran 0 and I couldn't use it any more. I thought it has infinite ammo. Is there any way to fix this? PS: I'm playing on ps4 [link] [comments] |
Fallout 4 Has Stopped Working on opening Posted: 11 Jan 2021 01:50 AM PST So I've recently bought it for pc after years of Xbox gameplay, but I can't seem to figure out why every time I open it, it says "Fallout 4 has stopped working" [link] [comments] |

How to limit fps on a 144hz monitor Posted: 11 Jan 2021 01:15 AM PST I heard that I should try and not beyond 60fps because it just breaks the game,I have a 144hz monitor and I don't know how to limit it. [link] [comments] |
Fallout 4 on a controller is a different experience, at least imho Posted: 11 Jan 2021 01:10 AM PST I've spent 500 hours on this game on a Mouse and Keyboard in my personal setup, today was a lazy day and decided to put the game in my HTPC, oh boy I feel as if I'm a synth with memories being replaced. It's refreshing as hell and I think everyone should try it! [link] [comments] |

What are your opinions on a melee only build in fallout 4? Posted: 11 Jan 2021 12:14 AM PST As the title ask, but to be more specific about it, how much fun can you have with a melee only build? I'm going through a vanilla play through of fallout 4 for the first time and I was really interested in the strength tree. (if that's what you all call it) I think it would be a fun time just trying to wack enemies with all the melee weapons but I just wanted a general idea of how a melee build would work out. Thank you for any and all responses! [link] [comments] |
New to PC Fallout, and modding on PC. Posted: 11 Jan 2021 12:07 AM PST Hey y'all. So I recently got at high end laptop and it's really my first PC that's good enough for modern games and got Fallout 4 again on PC. I was just wondering can you download both Bethesda.net mods and nexus mods with having them conflict with each other? Just because some Bethesda.net mods that are on Xbox aren't on PC and I would like to have them again. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Would you like to see a new assault rifle in the next game? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 11:28 AM PST I think the AR from fallout 4 would work better as a machine gun or a heavy weapon. Would you like to see a new rifle like the R91 from fallout 3 or maybe an M4? [link] [comments] |
About to embark on Fallout 3 DLC - wish me luck! Posted: 10 Jan 2021 11:12 PM PST Had the disc sitting in my collection for like 5 years, finally fired it up just now; posting this while it installs. I was pretty annoyed at the end of FO3, because I still had stuff to do, but couldn't seem to leave the final section and was forced to complete it (game didn't seem to have any free-roam ability). Hoping the DLC gives me free-roam, but excited for new content regardless. Any non-spoiler tips/tricks appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 09:58 PM PST Thank you to whoever left a ton of ammo in a suitcase in Lewisburg station. I was in a bad shape after a skirmish and your cache nearly brought a year to my eye. Thank you! I've also put down ammo I don't use, hope I could give back to the community! [link] [comments] |
