Finally beat Fo3 as an evil character.

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 07:17 PM PST

So I just beat my Fo3 Evil Kill-All playthrough and I've gotta say...

Megaton lived up to it's namesake. I tumbled Tenpenny Tower. I flooded Rivet City with lead. I made little work of Big Town. I lit up the Lamplighters. Grayditch is now Graydead. The Nuka-Cola no longer flows in Girdershade. The Republic of Dave became the Republic of Graves. I tainted Project Purity. Arefu's the new Transylvania. Galaxy News Radio fought the last of their good fight. I dried up The Oasis. Finding a resident in Canterbury won't be that common. The Temple of the Union was divided. Paradise Falls is a paradise lost. I turned Raven Rock into Raven Dust. Vault 101 is now Vault 1-0-Done. And the Brotherhood's Capitol just got lowercased.

It's good to be evil sometimes.

Fallout 1, Ghouls, and Gamer Expectation

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 09:35 AM PST

I was reading an article on here about how pre-war prejudices were shifted onto ghouls in post-war wasteland, and it got me thinking about one of my favorite moments in the original Fallout. It was only a year or two post-release and I'd avoided any info about it, but a buddy told me I'd love it. (He was right, obviously)

I'd stumbled across a couple random ghouls in the wild but quickly zapped them thinking "oh cool zombies in this terrible desert world. Everything in the wild id met up to that point had tried to eat me, shoot me, or crush me. I was terrified and elated and trigger happy.

And then I stumbled into that city of ghouls, and had a long range rifle, and when I scanned ahead and found ghouls in the ruins ahead of me I started firing. No questions asked, ask questions later style. I only had a few weeks left to get that purifier or my vault would die! I couldn't afford the time to find a new way in.

I'd slaughtered maybe a dozen ghouls when I find the assembled group... and realize they're talking.... and the horror of what I'd been doing washed over me. I was the wasteland monster to these people huddling against me for safety. I have only come across that level of self-realization in games a few times since, but that was one of the greatest moments of immersion for me since it was both me and the Dweller coming to the same realization in tandem.

One update after a bit playing the Frontier.

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 10:11 PM PST

I've seen comments saying it sucks, it's too linear, it's "fallout of duty", no skill checks, no choice, yada yada yada.

For chapter 1 I much agree but think of it as an extended prologue. I just hit chapter 2 and it totally opens up, going where I want, taking quests, dialog choices, skill checks and a lot of new enemies. Those telling you it's nothing but an on the rails mod haven't gotten far enough in in my opinion.

Honestly, I haven't formed an opinion on the mod as a whole yet, I just thought people should know some of the early impressions weren't 100% accurate.

    Best fallout intro?

Mine is probably fallout 1, it sets the mood better than it possibly could have in my opinion. Though New Vegas' gives me chills despite the stupid looking Khans

[FO4] Can you be evil in Fallout 4?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 08:39 PM PST

I want to play a really evil character, but I kind of don't want to be a raider. I almost want to play FNV instead as it gives more narrative freedom in that regard, but I love most of the lore changes in Fallout 4 with the power armor frame and all. I also had to patch WMX mod in FNV with all kinds of stuff and in this game it's just all in the game, really.

    Beat Fallout 1 recently

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 04:01 AM PST

I enjoyed the game a fair amount, even if I did find it to have a fair amount of flaws personally. One thing I loved was the open-ended nature of it! All the game tells you is what you have to do, the rest is up to you. So you pretty much just go everywhere you can, asking anyone you can about the water chip. Seeing as you are under-leveled and broke, you look for any job you would prove capable to do. The mystery and vastness of the Wasteland was something that kept me hooked, and I never found the game to be too cryptic for me to understand what I had to do. My only issiue was that it may have lead to the Master's character having less of an impact, as there is not enough setup for his character IMO. This is small, however.

Speaking of, the story is what is often praised about this game, yet I have a few gripes I wish to share. The plot itself I love! The eugenic themes present in the super mutant narrative made the story feel believable. In spite of what I previously said, I love the overall character of the Master. In fact, I have my own theory on his origin based on a tape I found somewhere. That being said, he is just about the only character with depth in the game. Tandi is someone who had potential, but you never see more than that. Jacoren was good enough, the ending gave him the depth I was looking for. Besides that, all you meet are one-dimensional figures who serve a purpose, yet you never get to see who these people really are, how they feel. It's especially disappointing with companions in my opinion, as the only one who stands out is Ian, for no other reason than him constantly SHOOTING YOU IN THE BACK! Well, and Dogmeat. He is, after all, iconic.

What instead sets Fallout apart is the outstanding worldbuilding. I don't think it's a stretch to say Fallout is one of the most unique and well-crafted worlds created in recent times. From the concept of the Great War, to the Wasteland itself and its various communities, to how humanity regressed and rebuilt under the cover of anarchy. The atmosphere is unpleasant, yet captivating. It doesn't let itself paint a completely desolate picture of a post-apocalyptic world, instead focusing on how socities would function in it. From the idealistic Followers of the Apocalypse, to peaceful communities like Shady Sands, to trading hubs like, well, the Hub. The worldbuilding is what the game manages best, and it deserves all the credit it's due.

The gameplay was perhaps my biggest issue. I understand this is quite subjective, but I honestly find Fallout's TT style of role-playing gameplay not fun. I get it, I understand its logic, but it is simply not fun, and that is what irks me. I love how you and enemies stand on even ground more or less. You will not be facing crowds of people unless you are well-prepared or ready to get your ass kicked. This would be great were it not for the absurd level of RNG the game has at times. You might critically miss even if your shot is 95%. Your companion could murder you just as you are about to win a tough battle. Or simply said, it's luck-based. Yes, a proper build will carry you, but this is another one of my issues. The game insists that you min-max the shit out of it to stand a proper chance in the battles ahead. I built my character to be diplomatic and stealthy, now that is my issue, correct? I should have played the game that way, and truth be told, I did. By the end, I understood that my levelling was practically screwed, so it was best I focused on talking and sneaking.

The freedom of Fallout is outstanding, I concur. I was completely lost, searching for some quest that I could possibly do and level up a bit. There was no way that I could reach the Mutant base otherwise. Lo and behold, I go back to Necropolis and find this ol' Super Mutant buddy of mine I forgot about. I see I could ask him to take me to his leader, and there I went. Let me see how this goes... Now I'm in a cell. I thought I couldn't escape, but after spamming lockpicking, I'm out. I sneak about with a stealth boy and some robes, and with some tinkering, I destroyed the base and completed one of two main game objectives. Just like that. As for the other objective, you can simply convince the final boss that his ways are wrong. And not in a clichéd "You can do better" type of way, you literally show him the facts. That was great, except for the sheer specificity of the steps required. In fact, in order to do that, I had to kill Dogmeat because I couldn't tell him to wait. For a game as free as this, it can be far too punishing if you do not play by its rules. I thought I'd invest in Small Guns, but mid-way through I learned they are practically obsolete by the mid-game and I should invest in Energy Weapons. Too bad I had no more quests left to do, not when I could hardly do anything in battle.

Lastly, the cut content is genuinely annoying here. The worst offenders were the Iguana Bob and the Followers Spy quest. Not only did they waste my time until I had too look up online why there was nothing I could about them, but they have a huge effect on two of the game's endings, preventing you from getting a positive outcome. While I understand the constraints there, it severely impacted my experience. The mod Fixt is often recommended for issues like this, but I couldn't transfer my save files properly. My game also began crashing on some save files and I had to rush the ending.

All in all, Fallout is a good game and I liked it. I was just a little disappointed with the sheer reverance I hear of it, though I understand why some love. I'd recommend it to people willing to invest time and patience in it, because it can be worthwhile. If anybody is going to get into it, though, I genuinely recommend looking things up if you are completely stuck. You might just find out the quest is incompletable. That, or download Fixt and play with it. Currently, I'm playing Fallout 2 and I'm enjoying it a lot more, even if I still have issues with the combat.

A weird glitch that happened in NCR Embassy with a random NCR Police Trooper. Spoilers. (maybe?)

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 03:58 AM PST

I was doing an achievenement run in New Vegas (Steam version, no DLC's) and one of the achievements I was missing was Caravan Master.

I was doing an NCR run since it's the fastest since you don't have to interact with Benny and the only time you meet Mr. House is when you kill him.

I reached the point of no return with NCR and decided to stop... stopping the Legion from invading Hoover Dam to do some achievements I missed.

I went to NCR Embassy in the Strip since the NCR Ambassador has a lot of money to "give" through the Caravan card game.

When I entered the building and went to challenge him into some Caravan games, an NCR Police Trooper came to me and said "You shouldn't be here. You should have stayed out of the Strip and now you'll pay for that".

Needless to say, he start attacking me and every NCR policeman turn against me. When I killed them I lost NCR reputation so I had to reload. When I did, he again turned against me, same as before.

I used a NCR armor to enter NCR Embassy (despite being Idolized with NCR) to move freely. Even with NCR armor he still approached me and said "You shouldn't be here" but didn't attack.

I don't write this to conplain or anything, since in Fallout Wiki says that this bug can occur occasionally. I'm writting this so someone who encounters the same bug to not think they do something wrong and it is all the game's fault.

TL;DR: A random NCR Police Trooper attacks you for no apparent reason, even if you are Idolized with NCR. That's the game's fault and not the players.

Edit: A possible reason this can happen is if you enter the Strip without paying the Fee Entry to Securitrons. For example if you get to the Strip through the Monorail or buy the fake Passport from Ralph, the NCR Police Troopers might think that you are "tresspasing" and attack you.

disconnection problems with Bethesda.net when using mods in fo4

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 04:32 AM PST

for some reason, whenever i try to download mods after some random amount of time the mod screen closes and instead they ask me to make a new account, even though i already use one, it forces me to make an account and doesn't give the option to log in instead, closing and reopening the mod section solves this but i wanted to see if there is a permanent solution to this, and would love to hear any ideas to solve this problem.

What is your opinion on Hearts of Iron 4’s Fallout themed mod Old World Blues?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 06:13 PM PST

The Grand strategy game Hearts of Iron 4 has a Fallout themed mod, in it you can play as any faction in the series form the Legion, NCR, Brotherhood, New Reno, New Vegas, and even original factions that actually fit. Its a mix of both Hoi4's strategical gameplay mixed with Fallouts lore, Factions, and weapons. Its really Fallout themed mod, and honestly could be a Fallout game in its own.

    Must-have mods for New Vegas?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 07:50 PM PST

Just as the title says. I've played this game bare-bones on console, and I wanna spend my weekend playing New Vegas all over again, just with mods on my PC. I'm looking for mods in the graphical/visual enhancing category, gameplay changes, and also those that helps with making the game work better. Anything you want to put, I'll be sure to check them out too. Besides that, thanks for the help! Very much appreciate it :)

To play again or not to play again. FO4

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 01:51 AM PST

Its been since about 2016 I beat fallout 4 and all the dlcs for it. That was my second playthrough. I've finished pretty much all of 76, I'm level 120 something and I have no quests left to do, or places to explore. I own fallout 4, without the expansions; but I'm wondering if I should spend 49.99 on all the dlcs and replay the whole game with mods. I'm on a series x. Is there any good mods worth getting for consoles that will really bring me back into the game? I only ask because it seems most mods I look at require all the dlcs and I'm split on spending 50 bucks again for this game (purchased on PC, ps4, xbox one)

    Thanks!

    Fallout 5 won't come out before 2025

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 02:31 PM PST

Based on Bethesda's current projects fallout 5 wont come out until after starfield and elder scrolls 6 and Bethesda games take around 3-4 years to make and starfield is like 2 years into development so lets say starfield come out early 2022 then add 3 year on to that for elder scrolls 6 and you get 4 years minium till fallout 5
