How long could the Courier last in the Sierra Madre Casino, realistically? DEAD MONEY DLC spoilierish?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 12:45 AM PST

Okay, so obviously we all know about The Cloud and it's various poisoning affects.

We also know that you can't sleep, (or at least you're really not supposed too), as the Courier would be inhaling more of the cloud (more likely because we're not allowed to heal that way as it makes the dlc harder).

From the Wiki about the Cloud:

"The lethal dose depends on the concentration. People outside sheltered locations in the Sierra Madre are exposed to low concentrations of the toxin. The effects include trouble with eye focus, dizziness, coughing fits, choking, vomiting and general deterioration of health as the toxins enter the system through the lungs and the skin. Unless the victim treats the damage or leaves the area, exposure is eventually lethal. For this reason, sleeping outside is a death sentence.

Concentrated pockets of the Cloud are outright lethal as they directly attack the body and cause necrosis (decay). While some can survive the concentrations of the cloud for some time, if healthy enough, none can withstand its effects for long. This is made worse by the fact that there is no protection against the Cloud. Rebreathers, chemical suits and other means of protection are useless as they fail when faced by the Cloud."

And on top of that, food & water are limited. The courier is constantly exerting energy in fights with the ghost people.

On top of that, there's the building anxiety of the collar, rushing toward every radio and speaker that beeps in order to turn it off, and all of the other mental and physical aspects of living in that hell.

So realistically, how long could the courier spend doing Father Elijah's bidding? How long could they last with no sleep, little food and water and a constant inhale of the cloud? The longest time a human being has managed to stay awake was 264 hours, or 11 days, which resulted in paranoia and sleep deprecation.

God/Dog is a super mutant, Dean Domino a ghoul, and Christine is sealed tightly in the auto-doc for a good portion of her stay. She only begins to suffer from the cloud when she's freed by the courier.

I'm genuinely curious, as the quest takes quite some time to be completed! I wanna hear other people's thoughts on this as well. (also sorry if this has already been discussed, I'm new to this subreddit!)

PSA: Looks like Hit The Deck, as well as other DT perks, does nothing against explosive self-damage

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 08:25 AM PST

I was doing some modding and wanted to add a perk that granted DT against explosive self-damage. Some confused testing later, even having a perk with 2500 DT against all damage seems to provide no benefit against explosive self-damage.

This is particularly annoying because even Hit The Deck, a vanilla perk, turns out to be useless in this regard. It changes literally nothing.

Specifically the thing I'm doing is shooting a grenade launcher at my feet, which results in 96 damage, no matter what my DT seems to be.

But that's just using perks. When I put on armor, THAT DT does apply to self-damage from explosives.

Tested this on a vanilla install, same thing.

Can someone else please confirm this for me, that I'm not going insane?

Been meaning to platinum New Vegas on PS3 for awhile; Caravan was tedious and there was technical issues aplenty but still a brilliant RPG at its core and glad to have 100% it

How do I get the Blackjack duster

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 07:01 AM PST

It's in lonesome road and I usually play it end game, I build up a lot of NCR rep. And I'm planning to nuke both NCR and legion so can I go there Nuetral (through a disguise), then get my reputation up by doing some repeatable quest?

Like many of you, I've had the game since launch. I believe yesterday was the first time I actually inspected the Vikki and Vance artifacts only to find that Vance's stolen submachine gun is just one of the many brilliant unmarked quests in the game. I haven't finished it yet, but I wanted to iterate that there are STILL new things I come across that I haven't seen for myself yet.

I'm doing a Tale of Two Wastelands playthrough and am surprisingly liking it a whole lot

    Feeling Triumphant

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 03:38 PM PST

I decided to do one last playthrough of Fallout New Vegas, and upon entering Nipton I decided I had enough of Vulpes's shit.

It was a sight to behold just my level 5 character and my guns. I got some slow motion time after the first two headshots (by turning off cinematic kills.) I was able to take out 3 legionaries with my varmint rifle using AP rounds before one started looking for me. He came running down the road, so gunned him down using 3 more 5.56 rounds. The I killed both mongrels with another set of sneak attacks. After admiring my work I walked up to the town hall and Vulpes comes running through the door Ripper in hand. I back up and swap for my 10mm pistol and was able cripple his right leg with vats. Finally after my AP regenerated I blasted that bitch's face with a cowboy repeater.

All of them dead, No legion infamy. Trust me when I say turn off cinematic kills, you get a small window to get another sneak crit. I think since sneak attacks show a cinematic kill slowed down (usually a bullet flying towards target,) turning it off yields the same effect just giving you the ability to keep shooting at the target or pick a near by target.

This may not be anything new on this decade old game but I thought it was worth sharing.

    Is Yes Man Dangerous?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 05:55 PM PST

I was wondering if Yes Man would be a bit dangerous to rely on post-independent ending considering that he is programmed to say yes.

Couldnt someone in the same way that Benny did, hack the tower by hijacking a securitron and pretty much have access to everything or did I miss something?

    PC Specs + Modding

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 04:23 PM PST

What do you use to play New Vegas?

I've been console exclusive my whole life but would love to have the freedom and features of PC gaming later next year.

Mods I would dig would be: Graphics revamp, character models, 4gb patch, etc.

I know any PC after 2010 can play it but I mean something that can run silky smooth. (even as unstable as new vegas can be on a good pc lol)

Also stands for Fallout 3 I'm guessing

    Thanks all.
