But seriously, the Brotherhood's vertibirds in Fallout 4 would have been the most dangerous force in the Wasteland.

The Brotherhood in Fallout 4 are extremely fond and proud of their aerial prowess, judging from their remarks about it in game, such as Danse's dialogue on the Vertibird during the flight from Cambridge to the Boston airport. He makes it seem as if having Vertibirds on their side is some grand boon that will assure them victory. The thing is, judging from the lore surrounding Vertibirds, and the real life metrics of similar war helicopters, Paladin Danse would be totally right. Vertibirds would be the thing everything in the Wasteland fears more than anything else, Lancer-Knights being the top-guns of the Commonwealth.

Unfortunately, this isn't the case in game, due to game balance issue. Everyone is familiar with paper mache Vertibird tropes and the spitballs it seems to shoot at NPC's from it's frontal cannons. But it's ridiculous. Vertibird cannons would be chambered in something like 30mm rounds, bullets so big they'd make a .50 Cal cry, packing 202 kilojoules with each shot, that's 202,000 Joules, in comparison with the 17,000-20,000 Joules a .50 Cal round is capable of producing. It would kill almost everything it hits in almost one hit, save for some really large and powerful mutated creatures, and this is not factoring in that some of these bullets are high explosive or incendiary. People would run like hell if a Vertibird swooped down on them. In my damage scaling formula for the mod I'm working on, the Vertibirds frontal cannons would deal around 20,200 points of damage if I was being 100% with the damage.

In conjunction with this, Vertibirds in the lore are heavily armored craft. I didn't see any direct rating for what it can withstand, but an Apache helicopter today that is similarly armored is said to be able to withstand 12.7 rounds on every single part of the airship. 12.7 rounds are capable of producing joule outputs in similar range of .50 Cal rounds. That means, Vertibirds would be flying tanks, and most of the weapons in the game wouldn't be capable of damaging the Vertibird's body the way it's done in the game. Players or NPC's would need Anti-Material Rifles, Gauss Rifles, armor piercing rounds, missiles launchers, naval cannons or other specialty weapons to take them down, and especially target weakness on the craft or the pilot if possible.

The danger is, if you've got a clean shot at the Lancer, the Lancer would probably have a clean shot at you too, and obliterate you in one shot with a shower sponsored by Bloody Mess. And even on the occasions when the Vertibird turns to the side, theres a chance it could be manned by a Knight armed with a minigun that's supposed to be chambered in 7.62x51mmNATO rounds, which would deliver over 300 points of damage or 3,000 Joules per bullet in the mod I'm working on, which would also lay NPC's out to pasture. You wouldn't know if its carrying troops in T-60 power armor until it's too late, either, who would be wearing armor just as protective if not more so than the T-51b.

They would really sweep the Commonwealth. They'd barely go down, let alone for a pipe pistol. If you had one on your side, you could really mow down droves of enemies. Throwing a signal grenade would really be just as dangerous as throwing an artillery flare. Fighting the Brotherhood would really be a nightmare without specialized equipment or resources. Maybe the Railroad could produce some type of scrambler technology that decreases the accuracy of vertibirds within a certain radius of the player or something, or give the player access to T-51 Power Armor + Bulletproof clothing, stealth technology, and high explosives. Otherwise, playing against them would be a bloodbath.

What is the purpose of the Commonwealth super mutants?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 07:12 AM PST

Like I know that in fallout 1 they kidnapped people to "recruit" them to their army and all the rest on the west coast are just trying to find purpose or take revenge while in D.C. they kidnap people to turn them into super mutants at Vault 87 so their species can continue but in the Commonwealth we just have a lead that the Institute made them but the FEV portion of the lab when you go there looks abandoned for sometime even though virgil was the scientist on that so are the super mutants just a way to keep the Commonwealth under siege or do the super mutants have their own place where they are making more mutants because we see them kidnapping people.

How does Elder Maxson know about your leads on the Institute?

The Brotherhood hardly has a form of presence until the Prydwen arrives, and they're not exactly... subtle. They're nothing like the Institute's synths, the Railroad or the Legion's Frumentarii. They wouldn't know "covert information gathering" if it stuck its foot so far up Maxson's ass he becomes boot polish. To add to that, your conversations between Valentine, Amari and Virgil can't possibly be monitored by the Brotherhood forces anyway.

    Ultracite Fuel Efficiency for Vertibirds?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 12:00 AM PST

This is a bit of a multi part question, but to start generally speaking how fuel efficient is ultracite?

Secondly, what do vertibirds primarily use for fuel?

I'm trying to figure out the hypothetical range of an ultracite fueled vertibird, taking into account the 250 mile established range by one flying from Boston to Far Harbor.

Did Lyon’s Brotherhood ever try to make an assault on Vault 81 or did they just annihilate the ones that weren’t hiding in their gore splattered and FEV infested hive?
