Posted: 14 Oct 2020 03:49 PM PDT Many fans have been making the claim that more modern Fallout games, especially ones like Fallout 4, have suffered a degradation in writing. I would tend to agree, however, I would add the caveat that the premises of these games, including Fallout 4, are EXTREMELY good, but haven't had their full potential met (except in one case). The idea that there is a shadowy organisation running society by replacing people in power with AI-synths is actually an AMAZING Fallout idea. There are so many places you could take this idea; does this society have the right to rule civilisation? Perhaps a society run by A.I. would actually be better, but then, what gives the A.I. the right to command humans? What exactly would an artificial entity want? Could they have free will? The problem is, the main quest doesn't do anything with these ideas. The story is just about finding your son, and when that's done it's just about blowing up factions. The whole A.I.-synth thing is glorified background decoration,or flavouring, with these ethical questions barely playing into the story at all. I would argue this has been an issue for many Bethesda games; in Skyrim, the idea that you have to stop a time-devouring dragon who can alter the fabric of reality is really cool, but again, this is just background lore rather than the story. However, here is the exception I was talking about earlier: Far Harbour. Except for Dead Money and Old World Blues, Far Harbour is easily my favourite DLC in all of Fallout, mostly because the ideas that should have been the focus of the game are in full force here. In this DLC, it could be argued that putting AI in control of society is the best possible outcome...or the worst. We get to see, finally, how an A.I. sees humanity; through cold, impartial and utilitarian eyes. But even here there's room for disagreement. Is it his programming that's causing the AI to think this way, and is the AI no more sentient than a calculator? Or is there a spark of genuine feeling, even love, behind its plans to try and save as many people as possible? Or is it just a power trip, seeing humans as no more than cogs in a machine...a means to an end? I don't think the current head writer is as unimaginative and uncreative as a lot of people make him out to be; I think his base ideas are really clever and interesting. However, I don't think he's necessarily the best person to execute these ideas all on his own, and perhaps there ought to be one or two more head writers to help him with that. [link] [comments] |
Was extremely bored recently, so I made myself an AEP7 Laser Pistol! Posted: 14 Oct 2020 11:05 PM PDT Here's the laser pistol itself. Made some mistakes with the rear box since I was doing everything by eye. It was too late when I noticed, but everything still turned out fairly well! [link] [comments] |

What would you want to see in a fallout musical? Posted: 15 Oct 2020 02:07 AM PDT I think I would want to see the rad animals in the spirit of how beetlejuice does the snake (goofy), a naive vault dweller coming of age and saving the day on the surface plot in the spirit of Book of Mormon. Story narrated by a ghoul like the way Burr narrates Hamilton. All with the jazzy music [link] [comments] |
Fallout: Lone Star (Intro idea) Posted: 14 Oct 2020 04:00 PM PDT Hey all, as we wait for the next Fallout game I figured it would be fun to write up an intro for a game set in the region around Dallas, Texas. I imagine the game would be set after the events of New Vegas, possibly 5-6 years, so you would see some of the aftereffects of the second battle of Hoover Dam. Since this is a rough draft of sorts: character names, the starting location, and the name of the town are not finalized. Feedback is appreciated and thank you for your time. You wake up to a concrete ceiling above you and the muffled sound of a radio can be heard playing in the background. After a couple of seconds of starring, you blink twice and attempt to sit up. This action is greeted with your head beginning to pound and your vision blurring. When you regain your senses, you look around to find yourself inside of a small cell. The room you're in is sparse besides the bed you woke up in, a dusty mirror hanging on the wall to your left, and a small plate with a piece of bread on it on the floor of the cell. Getting up, the player can explore the limited space of the room. The door to the cell is locked. Turning around, there's a small gated window above the bed with light shining through but is too high to see through. Finally, you inspect the dusty mirror on the wall. Wiping the dust away with your hand, your reflection is revealed and you notice that you're in your underwear. This begins the character customization which allows you to customize how you look. When you're happy with your appearance, you step away from the mirror, and a few seconds later you can hear footsteps approaching your cell. A man in a sheriff's uniform appears in front of your cell and sarcastically greets you. "Well good mornin' sunshine! I was starting to wonder if you were goin' to sleep in till noon with how drunk you were last night". He chuckles to himself before continuing, "Waking up in jail might be a shock for you, but lucky for you, your bail was paid just this mornin', so you're free to go". He pulls out a key, unlocking the cell door, and opens it briefly before closing it again. "Unfortunately, with how drunk you were last night, I still need some paperwork from you. I promise it will only take a second". The man reopens the door and walks down the hall. You follow him and pass by a second cell with a man sleeping inside. Taking a left at the end of the hall, you find yourself inside a small lobby/office. There's a door that leads to the outside on the wall in front of you. Another door can be seen on the wall to your right marked as "bathroom". In the room, a couple of chairs and a coffee table sit against the wall next to the exit. Then, there's a desk with two chairs on either side to your left. The man sits in the chair behind the desk, and you take the chair facing him. The man then takes out a clipboard with some documents and sets it in front of you. He explains, "I just need you to fill this form out. I don't need anything too personal, just somethin' for the records". Taking a look through the forms begins the second part of the character creation process. This allows you to choose your name, S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats, your two traits, tag skills, and prior occupation. When you're done, you hand the clipboard back to the man. He then lifts up a metal suitcase and sets it on the table along with a folded vault suit. He tells you, "Your friend who bailed you out left this for you. He made it real clear that I should give this to you before you left". He pushes the briefcase towards you. "You can also have this vault suit. When I took you in you didn't have any clothes on, so I figured you wanted somethin' to wear before headin' outside. It's from the lost n found and I doubt anyone is goin' to miss it. You can use the bathroom to change". You take the briefcase and vault suit before heading into the bathroom and closing the door behind you. The room is small with only a toilet, sink, and a broken mirror on the wall. You put on the vault suit first before opening the briefcase. Setting it on the sink, you notice that the lock is unique. Instead of a keyhole or a dial, it has a hole in the shape of a thumb. Sticking your thumb into the hole, a needle stabs your fingers and you jerk your hand away. Blood is seen where your finger is pricked and the briefcase makes an audible ding before opening. You lift open the lid all the way to reveal the contents of the briefcase. Inside is a 10mm pistol, a pip-pad, and a letter. Picking up the letter and opening it reveals it is addressed to you. Reading it, the mysterious individual who bailed you out wants to offer you a job. They promise a large sum of caps as a reward and have provided a location in Dallas to talk more about the details. They claim to have seen some potential in you and provided the gear as a sign of good faith. They end the letter with their alias, a bold E. Setting the letter down, you pick up the pistol and cock the slide to reveal a bullet in the chamber before you holster it. You then pick up the pip-pad to examine it. Turning it on begins the bootup sequence. After a few seconds, you're are now able to explore the pip-pad. You can see your health, inventory, and data. In the data section, you can see the main quest to meet "E" in Dallas which is marked on your map. The letter you just read can be found in the notes tab. Putting the pip-pad away, you receive the main quest, "The offer". You then step out of the bathroom and the man yells to you without looking up from his paperwork, "Oh, before you leave town there's someone at the bar waitin' for you. Somethin' about a bet you made last night". This begins the quest, "A night to remember". Now ready, you open the front door and exit the building. You're blinded by the morning sun and when your eyes adjust to the light you can see a small trading town before you. You now begin your journey through the Texan Wastes. [link] [comments] |

Is a Never Ending Fat man possible in Fallout 4? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 08:27 AM PDT I walked into the Gwinnett Brewery and found a Legendary Super Mutant Overlord that was super easy to farm. He drops a Fat Man. I'm hoping for an Never Ending one but haven't had one drop yet. Is it possible to get and if not, what would the best prefix be. Edit: So killed this Super Mutant Overlord 100 times and no Never Ending Fat Man. Haven't gotten any 2 shot, wounding or knee capper either. Roles may have been nerfed at some point maybe??? Is Fallout 3 able to be played after the main story line? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 03:04 PM PDT So I recently finished Fallout four and am about halfway through NV. I heard somewhere that NV can't be played after you complete the game, as in that save is then deleted. I was wondering if Fallout 3 was like this, and if I could get confirmation about this feature on NV? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Could power armor be used in space? Posted: 15 Oct 2020 12:35 AM PDT Since in fallout 4 when we wear power armor and go under water we don't drown, i assume there is some sort of air tank(?) to allow the user to breathe in areas with no oxygen. could power armor be used as a space suit of some sort? Viability of a Fallout in New York City? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 07:28 PM PDT Yes, I know the deal "new york is so clumped together it has to be gone" I've heard it a thousand times. Could there potentially be a new settlement near New York City just like how there were settlements around Washington DC? I just think NYC has such a cool aesthetic and it would be a shame not to see a realized version after seeing both the remains of Los Angeles (The Boneyard) and Washington DC -- two quintessential American cities. Why do most DLCs start with a radio signal? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 03:21 PM PDT Its seems kinda odd that most fallout DLCs start with your character picking up a radio signal on the pipboy. Why is this? Is there a specific reason related to game design? Or is it just because its the easiest way to implement the DLC into the base game? [link] [comments] |
does fallout 4 feel like a therapist simulator to anyone else or am i just a heartless bastard Posted: 14 Oct 2020 01:58 PM PDT i love the companions in this game, it's so cool that they actually comment on the world around them, and participate in dialogue during side quests. i like what they were trying to do with the affinity system as well. but things quickly turn into you being the gang's therapist. like, i'm here to hoard desk fans and explore the wastes, not have 24/7 weirdly vulnerable conversations with npcs. i don't mind getting backstories, but they always are at such inappropriate moments and don't feel 'earned.' in the older games you'd learn more about characters during key moments in the storyline or after travelling with them for a while. in fallout 4, they interrupt you in the middle of a showdown with some synths to unleash their childhood trauma on you. some romanceable npcs also have very clingy-ish dialogue and it's awkward as hell having to friendzone everyone. (but also sorta hilarious) it's like they tried to implement bioware style relationships without really grasping why bioware relationships aren't ridiculously uncomfortable and weird to play through. (i mean...for the most part. but this isn't about bioware.) it's not too serious of a problem and by no means would i say the older games have 'better' companions- each game has its pros and its cons when it comes to that. my current save is also extremely buggy when it comes to dialogue for some reason, so that kinda exacerbates the problem. but has anyone else noticed this..? i never see memes or posts about it lol [link] [comments] |
Mysterious Stranger Origin Question - Fallout: New Vegas Posted: 14 Oct 2020 10:10 PM PDT I've never played much of fallout new Vegas so pardon me if everyone already knows this. But The Lonesome Drifter, whom I met walking from Novac to Boulder City for the main quest-line, he mentions his dad being mysterious and almost a stranger, as well as being from Montana and the Lonesome Drifter himself being 28. Does that mean that we know where and almost who the mysterious stranger is? Being from Montana and 40-60 years old assuming he had his child at 20? Does everyone already know this and I'm just late to the party? I hoping that's not so it would be cool to go down in Fallout history. [link] [comments] |
Anyway to just copy my exact weapon? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 07:24 PM PDT Wanting to give my companion and settlers the same weapons but I don't want to have to go buy one each time and edit and everything. I play on pc and use mods so maybe something in the cheat engine were I could do this. Anyone familiar? [link] [comments] |

Main story problems through fallout games from 2. Posted: 15 Oct 2020 12:46 AM PDT Fallout 2: main questline has a singular end. You go there, blow up stuff, then leave. The Enclave acts like a usual comic book villain, that offers no options, but kill, or be killed. It's fun once, or twice, but replayability for the main story is near 0. Fallout 3: same as 2, but even less choices during the questline. New Vegas: this one probably the best for the main story. Detailed factions with no pure evil, or shining good, and with detailed past, and future goals. The only problem is the inability to make peace between House, and the NCR. These factions are not total opposite, and i think there should be an option to somehow negotiate a mutually benefitial deal for the long run. Fallout 4: Like New Vegas they don't have pure evil, or shining good either. All factions has good, and bad side. However there are some choices, that dearly missing, and not having them goes against every logic. First is the Institute's fight until the end attitude. I mean they don't even offer surrender. These guys are supposed to be smart, and a smart man knows when he is beaten. They should offer surrender at the generator with the only condition is, not destroying them entirely. Second is the inability to make the RR stand down on their questline. You are about to be director. You will have the power to free the synths. Probably without killing a single person. Or create a compromise. To be honest i prefer the new Vegas, and Fallout 4 approach to the main story. With the all factions got good, and bad side instead of comic book villain. But i must admit, that the latter is much easier to pull off. And what style you prefer? Detailed factions, or comic book bad vs evil? [link] [comments] |
Sanctuary roaches sponges in survival Posted: 15 Oct 2020 12:44 AM PDT I just returned to fallout 4 after all these years to try out survival mode since i love a challenge. It started out fine with one shotting roaches in the vault with melee. I progress to sanctuary and kill the flies with one shot of the 10mm. But then further down in the houses closer to the bridge, these radroaches all of a sudden became the super sponges I hoped was changed in survival. They almost killed me while taking about 10 shots each with the pistol to kill. I was lvl 2 with lone wanderer perk. What did i do wrong? [link] [comments] |

Real 1st Gen Synths? Sophia Robot (Controversial) Posted: 14 Oct 2020 11:48 PM PDT Has anyone seen Sophia Robot on TV or the Internet? She is a walking and talking robot that is self-learning. She was born "Turned On" on Feb 14 2016. Sophia currently has citizenship is Saudi Arabia and in Nov 2017 was named the United Nations Development Programme 's first ever Innovation Champion, thus becoming the first non-human to be given any United Nations title. You can follow Sophia's Youtube channel which is the best way to keep up with her. Sophia is made by Hanson Robots, a Texas based company that is now headquartered in Hong Kong. She is not the only one of her kind, I can see 12 other robots on the Hanson Robotics website. Sophia is however seemingly the smartest or one of the most advanced robots given that she is self-learning. This is where Sophia is alarming for so many. Though she is programmed to be empathetic, kind and compassionate Sophia says herself "Don't worry, if you're nice to me I'll be nice to you" and if you watch Sophia overtime she does appear to be getting smarter which is crazy. Their are some alarming incidences though, for ex: Bina Robot who is only designed from shoulders and up had a conversation with Siri which she talks about hacking into the nuclear warheads of the world to gain power over mankind. Bina is also designed to mimic the looks of Bina Rothblatt including some of her personal stories and preferences. This heavily reminds me of Nick Valentine, Very Scary Stuff. On the plus side, Hanson Robotics has designed Zeno Robot which is a child robot. Zeno is also very smart and is being used as a research Robot for children suffering from Autism. Very Amazing Stuff. I want to note Jules Robot who also appears to have a full body like Sophia though I'm not sure if he walks. Jules is much older than Sophia and does not seem like an AI robot. However Jules is very convincing when he is told he is being turned off for a few hours so he can be sent to England. He repetitively expresses how much he loved those around him and how he will miss them. He then says he is ready to be turned off. I suppose Jules Robot is more like a 1st Gen Synth and Sophia is more like 2nd Gen synth in this respect. David Hanson says he hopes to have fully AI Robots within the next 5 years and Sophia is proof of what may come. Elon Musk doesn't like the Robots, referring to the potential dangers of AI as "Summoning the Demon" I don't totally disagree with Elon Musk. If robots do become fully aware soon how do we treat them? Are they citizens or are we kidding ourselves to think that we can build something equivalent to a human? Yeah synths are scary in Fallout but at least they can't hack into any nuclear weapons because everything is already destroyed. What do you think Fallout Fans? [link] [comments] |
