Why the NCR military has Energy Weapons at its disposal.

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 10:18 PM PDT

Many of the Marked Hunters and Marked Marauders (former NCR Troopers and NCR Rangers, respectively) of the Divide are equipped with Laser Rifles, Plasma Rifles, Tri-Beam Laser Rifles and Multi-Plas Rifles. In just a single NCR military outpost that's positioned on the Long 15, Colonel Royez of the New California Republic Special Forces himself is equipped with a Plasma Caster whereas the Heavy Troopers that accompany him are equipped with Gatling Lasers, Plasma Casters, Gauss Rifles and Tesla Cannons.

It should be rather obvious just looking at this that the NCR can in fact equip significant portions of its forces with all manner of Energy Weapons in bulk. However, since there are those that aren't convinced and insist that this proves nothing, let's delve into more specific information.

The Gun Runners, both the #1 and only arms supplier of the Republic's armed forces that maintain an exclusive monopoly over all of the NCR military's weapons contracts, are famous for manufacturing only the absolute finest and most pristine weapons in existence. They're also very well-known for selling so many weapons and munitions to the NCR military that they're considered to be an unofficial branch of the armed forces.

What isn't so well known is that the Gun Runners also manufacture and sell Energy Weapons alongside conventional ordinance. As explained by the Gun Runner Alexander:

The Courier: "Why don't you deal in energy weapons?"

Alexander: "We used to. But every caravan carrying them was getting ambushed and wiped out. By someone sophisticated enough to know which was which. We think it was the Brotherhood of Steel - those crazies always go hard for energy weapons. But the NCR would rather pretend they killed all of them."

Let's put 2 and 2 together: the NCR military can very clearly get its hands on Energy Weapons while the Gun Runners, their primary arms suppliers, manufacture and sell Energy Weapons. That sure is one viable, CANON route for the NCR military to acquire Energy Weapons right there, wouldn't one think?

But what if the NCR military doesn't have the money or interest to spend money on purchasing Energy Weapons in bulk, one might say? Here's Gloria Van Graff to silence such doubts:

The Courier: "Just start at the beginning."

Gloria Van Graff: "I saw an opportunity and negotiated a deal with the NCR - I help draw some of their enemy's troops into a trap and they agree to buy from me."

The Courier: "What will you do now?"

Gloria Van Graff: "It'll be all I can do to supply the NCR with the amount of weapons they want, so I'll be pretty busy for the foreseeable future."

Gloria Van Graff: "Good, you're here. Do you remember that package I had you deliver? Well, the client liked the sample and put in a massive order. It's possibly the biggest order we've ever supplied. I've had to repeatedly assure my mother that everything will go smoothly."

The Courier: "Wouldn't you have made just as much money dealing with the Legion?"

Gloria Van Graff: "Hardly. They've got a lot of soldiers, and slaves. But they don't come close to having the amount of wealth the NCR has. When I said we were going to be rich, I meant it. The deal I brokered with the NCR netted me fives times what Caesar paid.Keeping Caesar's money was just a bonus."

The NCR not only paid 5× more for that Energy Weapons shipment (an enormous shipment that was the largest that her particular branch of the family business had EVER sold, I might add) than the Legion did, but they also granted the Van Graffs, a lifelong enemy of the Republic, several weapons contracts, as well. Any doubts that the NCR can't afford or doesn't want to supply substantial amounts of its forces with Energy Weapons should therefore be immediately dispelled.

So there you have it. The NCR military can in fact afford to and indeed can supply its military with Energy Weapons in bulk. And that's all she wrote. Please let me know what you think.

Playing a "Tour Guide" Character. Need Lore Help

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 05:10 AM PDT

OK so it's been awhile since I've played 76 and I had the idea of creating a character that's basically a "tour guide" explorer where I go to a different in game location and share history, lore, etc about that place.

I've looked at the Fallout fan wiki and wikipedia for real life locations, but are there any other places where I can learn about the lore and secrets of each area in the game? I want to make sure I get as much info as possible. Do you have any tips or tricks for lore/history information?

My first destination (after Vault 76) is going to be the Tyler Co Fair Grounds. After that, I'll either go south towards Mothman Museum or north towards WV Lumber. I'm keeping a google doc where I store all my research and findings.

what happened to Europe after the Great War?

Where did the pack raider gang get their moose antlers and elephant tusks?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 07:17 PM PDT

So the pack has all these animal based headwear and while I'm still a little confused on why they copied a lot of animals they've never seen (for example jaguars and elephants) instead of wasteland creatures, I'm more confused on where they get the moose antlers for the moose helmet and tusks for the elephant mask as there are no mutated animals mutated from moose and elephants in game (although they may exist and just aren't seen in game as I'm sure there's a lot of animals in world we never see, such as iguanas, squirrels, and goats.

Why are so many super mutants carrying hunting rifles?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 08:16 PM PDT

Out of all of the weapons that super mutants carry on the regular, the Hunting Rifle perplexes me.

This gun hardly seems likely to be amongst the favorites of a super mutant's arsenal. Low magazine size, have to cycle the slow and flimsy bolt in their massive hands.

But, sure enough, find a pack of super mutants and you'll be guaranteed to find a number of hunting rifles amongst them.

    What gives?

Or is this simply a product of the devs trying to balance the gameplay, making sure the super mutants don't gun down unseasoned vault dwellers, couriers, and survivors in the earlier areas?

What was vault tecs end game?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 06:04 PM PDT

Across the fallout games there have been numerous vaults ones like 92 and 75 confuse me what would they need with super soldiers? The us military was presumably gone and the enclave would likely have a Tough time getting the DNA and results also a pulse gun is sealed in vault 34 that seems to be a strange weapon to put in a place where it would end up in some guys pocket and in Appalachia they wanted control of AUTOMATED NUCLEAR SILOS why would they need that seems counter productive. What was they're goal?

What was the difference between the whitespring bunker and the oil rig?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 03:17 PM PDT

I only played fallout 3,4, and 76 and wondered who was flown to the oil rig and who went to whitespring?

What is the origin of power armor?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 06:48 PM PDT

When I ask this question, I'm not asking for what company first produced powered armor, I'm not asking for what or when power armor prototypes were manufactured, I'm not asking why powered armor became the American military future vision (though this relates), I'm asking where the origin of the idea to power armor itself come from?

Did the military think it up? Was it a team of engineers at West-Tek? Was it some mad scientist who read too many Ironman comics? Was it made out of necessity? It's the icon of the game, like help me out here, where'd it come from?

Why were the T-45 and T-51 PAs deployed with the d and b specs respectively?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 03:58 AM PDT

Isn't the F spec supposed to be better? Was it because of time constrains? Or were those specs better suited for the conditions of their deployment?

When were Tesla and Hellfire armor created?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 09:52 AM PDT

I'm asking as I'm currently running a Fallout pen and paper RPG that features the Enclave's naval forces in Hawaii. Their elite squadron is the Hurricane Squad, which is led by a battle hardened captain in Hellfire armor (sometimes Tesla) as well as a team that includes those in Tesla armor. The game takes place in 2252, 10 years after Fallout 2. So I'm unsure how consistent this is with actual in game lore, so when did Hellfire armor officially become a thing?
