What is the appeal of a Fallout game outside the US?

    Posted: 13 Jul 2020 07:38 PM PDT

It seems like a lot of people want a Fallout game with a setting outside of the US. I never understood the appeal. To me, the atmosphere of Fallout is so closely tied into 50's retro America and the view of sci-fi at the time, I cannot see it working as a Fallout game anywhere else.

For anyone who disagrees, I would love to hear your argument on how it would work and still feel like a Fallout game.

Choosing a race much like how the elder scrolls does

    Posted: 13 Jul 2020 05:01 AM PDT

what if the next fallout game allowed you to choose your characters race? By this i mean human, ghoul, supermutant, robot?? idk. i think it would be a cool thing for the franchise. would have to include a very dynamic story of course. i just think the typical vault guy "lone survivor" "soul survivor" thing would get old. New vegas could have done it I guess. if Skyrim and all other elder scrolls games do it, then why not fallout? just seems like an interesting concept for fallout!

Why doesn't the Super Mutant Suicider just throw the nuke at you? Have you seen their arms?!

It's already armed, it would logically be just as effective as a fat man

I gotta say I really like fallout 76

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 12:07 AM PDT

After beating fallout 3 when it first came out and instantly buying 4 and beating it I never bought fallout 76 cause of all the bad reviews.. now that it came to gamepass and I read all the updates it has gotten, to me this gotta be the most fun I've had playing a fallout. I gotta imagine it was pretty bad if there was no NPCs or anything at the beginning but coming into it for the first time a couple days ago it's been great. It's another fallout game with a storyline and everything NPCs everywhere to interact with a beautiful map to explore and you can play with your friends and see people online all the time with great base building, great game if u ask me and brings more the table then any other fallout has really. Really enjoying it

I really like the elevated highways in Fallout 4

    Posted: 13 Jul 2020 11:15 AM PDT

They first showed up in Fallout 3, but it wasn't until 4 that we really got to walk on them. They're fun paths, and also really fun to snipe from. I think they also show how Fallout 4 really used range and elevation in it's combat more than any of the other ones. In 3 and New Vegas you're often just on flat ground, or maybe sniping, but 4 really plays with elevation, like in the Corvega attack. Normally when you snipe it's from above, but in the corvega attack, you're shooting guys above you, below you, far away, close, it's just really fun and dynamic. The quincy fight is also like that.

I finally got the Quantum X-01 Power Armor legitimately!

    Posted: 13 Jul 2020 11:42 PM PDT

I was never drawn into the Nuka World DLC in my previous playthroughs, and anytime I started it, I'd just glitch through the wall and get the Power Armor and not really touch the rest. This time I actually put the time in and got it for real this time though.

I know the whole controversy over the lore and stuff, but its a good power armor set nonetheless

What is your favorite depiction of the Brotherhood of Steel and why?

    Posted: 13 Jul 2020 04:07 PM PDT

I have yet to get very far in Fallout 2 so idk how they will be like yet, for all I know they could be my favorite iteration

Personally I seem to like the Outcasts, they seem to be militant about coming advanced tech but they don't seem to want to commit genocide on sentient beings, unlike elder Maxon's brotherhood. My only major gripes with them is that they seem completely apathetic about the supermutent and Enclave threat, and they don't allow outsiders to join (I haven't played broken steel so I'm not sure if they do something in that DLC)

I also like the western brotherhood from Fallout 1 and NV, who are, under normal circumstances, are willing to recruit those who seem promising to the Brotherhood, and seem to interact with the outside world in a limited capacity. The Mojave also seem willing to confiscate tech from outsiders L My only gripe with the Lost Hills BoS is that they don't seem so interested in tech, now this is probably due to technical limitations, but they don't seem to care who has advanced tech, but this is probably because, at that time, they were the only source of advanced tech

So, from my experience, they never really hit the nail on the head, personally I would like the brotherhood to allow outsiders to join, be willing to confiscate advanced tech from anyone, and be willing to respond to great threats, almost like a fusion of the Lost Hills, Mojave, and Outcasts brotherhood chapters

I would also like them to stop being a major faction. I liked how in Fallout 1 they were small, same as in Fallout NV, they have kind of become the default faction and I think it's annoying

    What do you guys think?

    Fallout 4 City Lag on 2080 Ti + 8700k

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 01:49 AM PDT

Hey guys I'm running a 2080 Ti FTW3 paired with an 8700k and playing on an ultra-wide 3440x1440 monitor and I get mad frame drops in the big towns. I play with maxed out ultra setting and everywhere else I get a solid 72fps but as soon as I get to a town frames go completely unstable down to the 30s and 40s when looking around making it so stuttery and almost unplayable, like its struggling so hard. Is that normal for my PC specs on Fallout 4? I just feel like my rig should be performing flawlessly with the specs I'm running.. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Any tips for beginning fallout 2

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 01:23 AM PDT

I've had fallout 2 for a long time now and I never get very far without getting bored and turning on something else. I want to play this game properly. Can anyone tell me any early game tips or builds that can help me? Anything is appreciated. Also saying for the early fallout games like fallout 3 to new Vegas I typically go for the 10 agility 10 luck critical abuse build. Anything similar to that would be great as well

I might as well say it.

    Posted: 13 Jul 2020 09:09 PM PDT

Fallout 76 is not as bad as people are saying it is.

I started playing it yesterday and yes there are glitches and frame drops, but what Bethesda game doesn't. And mind you this is after Wastelanders so all of the negative press I'm talking about is post Wastelanders. I've had a couple of Tposed enemies but they weren't attacking or anything so I just left them.

I will say the level loot is a little annoying, especially when I find a good weapon but I can't use it yet. They should really personalize it to your level. Like any gun can be used but the damage(at least to npc enemies) is leveled to you. Also the npcs should be personal leveled. Like me at level 9 and a guy at level 30 can attack the same target and that target will be leveled differently between our two screens so that the lower level player has a chance to win against them while also not cheapening the experience of the higher level player.

Other than those minor gripes, it's very fallout to me. A lot to explore(with fun and sometime disturbing or sad scenarios with skeletons or dead bodies), decent enemy placement, the main missions can be difficult but not unfair. I can play without the absolute need to horde junk(since I won't be making a camp), and interesting new monsters(or animals I guess in these worlds).

Once you get past the first 5 levels the leveling up seems easier and quicker. I guess they wanted a longer first five without PvP so you can get a feel for the world around you before experiencing the other players. Speaking of, the other players are very friendly and even though every once In a while you'll have a PvP player drop in, it's not game over if your under leveled, since they give you a chance to run without getting riddled by their bullets and dying in 5 seconds. The scorched are a surprisingly good enemy that mixes feral ghouls mentality with enough brain to handle weapons. I found the healing items to be sparse but not super rare and the addition to hunger and thirst is balanced and easy enough to not have to worry about constantly. I do wish it didn't cost AP to VATS check your surroundings(clicking the button until you catch something), but I guess it brings new challenge to clearing buildings, not knowing where the enemies are at all times.

So yeah. Decent enough game for me to keep playing and I hope they continue to make it better. I will say I've partially forgiven Bethesda. Now they just have to treat ES6 with respect to release it finished, or at least not a complete mess and they will continue to thrive.

Anyone Else Feel Like the Fallout 4's Opening Could Be Stronger?

    Posted: 13 Jul 2020 11:42 AM PDT

Having put 900 hours into the game, I feel comfortable saying that Fallout 4's opening could be a bit stronger. The character creation, and moments before entering the vault are pretty strong, but when entering the Vault I think in some aspects it could be improved.

Namely in the moments you enter the cryopod.

I definitely feel like they could have made your Spouse's death more impactful to the player and at least twice as brutal.

The death works for great motivation to the player, but it could be even stronger if the image were to be more haunting.

Now I don't know about you, but I can tell you a .44 Magnum to head at point blank, isn't gonna leave a clean wound.

No, that skull is gonna pop like a watermelon.

The Fallout Series is not shy when it comes to gore, and I feel your spouse's death should be no different. I mean, in New Vegas (All hail our lord and savior courier 6), many of the interiors and massacres you see all have really strong blood and gore effects. I mean you can follow a trail of blood that leads to an injured NCR ranger in Vault 3.

I think if you wanted to make the spouse's death feel more impactful and linger here's a how I'd do it.

Kellogg takes aim with his pistol and pulls the trigger, the gunshot echos, and murders your ears. Your spouse's head breaks apart in a spray of viscera, brain matter littering the floor in grey, bloody chunks. The back of the pod is caked in blood as your's spouses body thuds back into the seat, their mouth hanging open.

All you hear is ringing in your ears, the figures seem to be talking in incoherent words, your throat burns. Somewhere off in the distance you can hear screaming. Who could it be? is there someone still alive?

But then you realize your the one screaming.

Kellogg turns to your pod, his face splattered with the gore of your spouse. He goes to reach for the controls, but his hand stops just short of the handle. Looking back at you, as you furiously pound on the pod, he takes a step back.

"Na, it's not worth it. We need the backup. Put 'em back on ice." before turning and leaving.

After coming out of cryo-sleep, you fall out of the pod, and collapse onto the ground, crawling over to your spouse's pod, you pull the handle. Your heart is pounding, your stomach drops, as you look at the remains of your spouse's body.

Pulling them out of the pod, the two of you collapse. You holding your spouse in your arms, sobbing uncontrollably. You let out a wail that echos through the vault, unable to do anything. Your breathing becomes labored, as you slide the wedding band off their finger and hold it close to your heart.

"I'll find who did this. And I'll get Shaun back." You say.

"You promise?" you hear your spouse's voice say.

"I promise." as you pull yourself to your feet, pacing along the floor.

To me, this leaves a MUCH stronger impact then the vanilla opening scene that I have seen so many times. Even in the vanilla game, while the opening is shocking, as soon as I left the vault I almost instantly forgot it happened. This, would likely stick with the player much more, and last longer then the original does.
