Im a couple of hours in about 17 to be precise to fallout New Vegas and it honestly made me realize how every other 3D fallout falls flat on its face compared to New Vegas, i think this picture sums up my playthrough and i also found this game needs less mods than others to be fun and playable.

Brandon Sanderson on Fallout: New Vegas

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:51 AM PDT

If anyone here is a fan of Brandon Sanderson's works (Mistborn, The Stormlight Archive, Elantris, Skyward, The Rithmatist, Alcatraz and the Evil Librarians, I could go on), you may be interested to know that he gave a shout out to New Vegas yesterday. In his latest newsletter, he talked about his favorite video games, and listed his top ten. Fallout: New Vegas came in at #8. Here's what he had to say:

I have played all of the core Fallout games, and I was one of the (it seems few) who was really excited when it moved from turn-based tactics to first-person shooter. While Fallout 3 was good, it didn't have the charm of the first two.

New Vegas delivered on everything I was hoping to see. The charm was back, the writing sharp, the quests imaginative. The gameplay was engaging and branched in a variety of directions, the gunplay was solid, and the atmosphere immersive. I of course love the first two games in the series—but New Vegas combines everything I like in gaming into one package. (As a note, I own the Outer Worlds, and am looking forward to digging into it. Consider this item on the list a recommendation of other Obsidian games—like Knights of the Old Republic Two—regardless of genre, as I've found them universally to be superior to their contemporaries.)

Definitely one of the coolest authors around, and now officially even cooler!

The entire top ten list, from 10 to 1 (because I don't know how to do a numbered list in reverse on here):

    • Katamari Damacy
    • Undertale
    • Fallout: New Vegas
    • Super Mario World
    • The Curse of Monkey Island
    • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
    • Halo 2
    • Final Fantasy X
    • Bloodborne
    • Civilization VI

Not that I'm shilling for him or anything--he does just fine without it--but if you're interested in this kind of thing, you can sign up for his newsletter here. At the very least, there's usually original fiction--short stories or excerpts from upcoming or unpublished projects.

    Frequently Missed Content

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:58 PM PDT

After playing this game for more than six run-throughs, I have yet to discover all the content that this game has to offer! I hear that many people miss out on Westside and the fighting arena, "The Thorn."

Is there anything that you missed out on your first couple of run-throughs and/or something you know that is commonly missed out on by the community?

    Edit: Typo Throne -> Thorn

    Getting back into NV finally!

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:26 AM PDT

This game is one of my all time favorites, played it for countless hours on my old PS3 when I was younger. Recently got a PC and my 1st thought was I finally have the opportunity to mod this game and experience it in all it's beauty. I have a fairly weak PC but regardless the fun I'm going to have playing this gem again is so exciting. I just started my new playthrough after modding, and having a blast already. Even thinking about all the content this game has to offer puts a smile on my face. Admittedly this while post sounds like a sponsorship , but I just had to put this out there. For anyone new, returning, or still playing, enjoy your travels!

    Fallout new Vegas OST

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 11:28 PM PDT

As we all wander the Wasteland with our nifty pip-boy radios, remember to take time to appreciate the Original Soundtrack of this game! Yes I know, we all love Johnny Guitar (joke) and Big Iron, but for real, this soundtrack is just phenomenal!

New Vegas reused some of the soundtracks from the original Fallout Games such as Metallic Monks (Freeside), Acolytes of the New God (Black Mountain and Jacobstown), Etc. Also the soundtrack created for New Vegas is great too. Such as stepping out into the Mojave for the first time, just to hear that western style soundtrack.

The soundtrack in this game makes it feel more dark and even horrifying at some points... and I love every bit of it. Patrolling the Mojave while hearing metallic noises, sirens, creaking metal, and just all the other sounds included in the soundtrack is just something else. I am glad they didn't just use an orchestral soundtrack like they did in Fallout 4... (I'm pretty disappointed that FO4 went in this direction but oh well). It brings Fallout back to its roots. It's not about the bombs dropping and the apocalypse, but it's about the civilization after the apocalypse, what came out through the ruble... and what did not.

How often do you guys travel without the radio and what is your favorite Soundtrack? Personally, I just love the reused soundtrack from FO1 and also the NCR themes along with the Hoover Dam track too.

How do you guys feel about fallout: new California? Spoilers btw for the mod

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:19 AM PDT

I personally don't like it much because for one they make some game features canon when I've always thought as them as what they are, game features, and I don't like the idea of giving the courier an in depth backstory because I've always seen them as a person who was just a courier in the apocalypse who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, there are forms of backstory within the game itself but I don't think it should go into depth you know?
