The “character who acts like the war hasn’t happened” shtick could make for a fascinating companion if done right

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 12:00 PM PDT

We've seen this trope a couple of times with a number of robots. But what if this concept was applied to a human (or ghoul) companion?

Let's say we stumble upon a lone Ghoul in a soldier's outfit guarding a military checkpoint. We can talk to him, and he will mention that his commanding officer sent him there to be man the area. You can ask him what group he's with, but he will be confused and say the United States Army, as if it's obvious. If mention the war, he won't know what you're talking about.

You then have the option to tell him you are a representative sent by his commanding officer to give him new orders. This will require a speech check, but, if successful, he will follow you.

Now, this character acts as a typical man before the war. A die-hard patriot and communist-hating military man. He would mention things such as his wife and kids back home and how he always keeps his eye out for "dirty commie spies."

However, he seems to have another personality - one where, without warning, he will suddenly snap out of it. He suddenly seems aware. In this state, he is devastated by grief to the point where he can barely talk. He starts breathing heavily, holding his head in his hands, and muttering an illegible mess of things like "no...no...no..." "Oh god..." and "P-please..." in this phase, he won't move and can't be interacted with. But then he'll suddenly snap out of it and have no memory of the breakdown.

The idea is that every time he has one his breakdowns, it's like he's finding out for the first time all over again. That the war happened. That his country is destroyed. That his family is dead.

His act as a soldier man is a sort of automatic coping mechanism his damaged mind takes to deal with the trauma.

His personal quest would likely involve dealing with this, and how you choose to influence him could end up to his personality being very different. If you inspire him to keep "serving his country" he will become his military man-self full time. If you convince him to accept the war, he will at first become more quite and reserved. He remains loyal to you, but he is now noticeably more stand-offish and introverted. He now bears the knowledge that his entire life as he knew it is gone forever.

What do think? It's just a random idea I came up with.

Am I the only one who's scared of the assultron lazer.

For some reason, even at a high level, every time I hear an assultron powering up I get scared for my life.

You're hired by Bethesda to lead the development of Fallout 5. What's the story line and what will you add into the game?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 06:35 PM PDT

    Three Dog is a hypocrite.

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 03:32 AM PDT

Three Dog's always telling on radio how the B.O.S. fight the good fight and are the justice incarnate, and how evil Eden is. He's always telling that ghouls are the same as other people too. So I went to check out on them in the Underworld. And what do I hear there? That, of all problems in the D.C. Mall, the most troublesome lot to ghoul inhabitants of the Underworld are the aforementioned Brotherhood of Steel! As they try to shoot them on sight, without concern on the ghoul person being feral or not. They just shoot them right there! That's not cool, Three Dog. Are you tell all that crap about Brotherhood being literally saints just because they help you with the radio? If that's the case, I think his deal is open to a highest bidder. And if his radio was first discovered by the Enclave... Well, I think he would just praise Enclave patrols in their shining black power armor and say on his radio that they're the Wastes' last hope, amirite? To hell with this opportunist bigot and his "good fight" bullshit.

[The Brotherhood of Steel? What's your beef with them?]

    - Bastards. They don't seem to be able to tell us apart from the Super Mutants. Or, maybe they just don't care. They see us and shoot on sight. And least they have the common courtesy to miss most of the time. Still... bigots.

I’m working on a film about fallout and I need help

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 11:35 PM PDT

The basic premise is the main character is a ghoul obsessed with getting blue star sunset sarsaparilla bottle caps and will even murder and torture to get them. A 5'7 ghoul with bandages around his head, He has a black cowboy hat and a football jersey, A pair of jeans and suspenders, He has chunks of hair on his head sticking out of his bandages.

He looks around the Mojave desert in search of the bottle caps, He owns a super sledge which in the movie he sells to a night kin to get a few blue star caps and travels with a drawn on bottle of sunset sarsaparilla that he often talks to (providing a high pitch voice for the bottle to speak in) and he hates super mutants. At the end he is shot by another man in the sunset sarsaparilla headquarters and left for dead in the office section after he had just cashed in his star caps and got to see the treasure.

Why doesn't anyone clean anything up??

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 02:06 PM PDT

So I know that the bombs fell over 200 years ago. Shit happened and humanity is still figuring itself out. However, why is there so much trash in the homes? Like just jeaps of it on the floor. You go in anoyones home in Diamond City and they just live with random shit everywhere. I'm just wondering how not one person took the initiative to clean up and put it outside at LEAST. Anyone else have any ideas?

    Tell me about the Khans.

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 01:54 AM PDT

Where did they come from? (Other than a Vault)

How did they get so tough and involved with drug dealing/trafficking while maintaining a strong sense of community?

Why are they a "neutral" faction and not an ouright hostile one like many others of the same shtick?

    Who leads them?

What are their goals? If any.

When will we ever see them again?

Late Night ICBM Rants, Fallout 4 & The Commenwealth

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 03:44 AM PDT

I posted what was below as a comment on a post that was barely related, and got like 10 views tops. From what I can tell, no one saw it. So I'm re-posting it as it's own post, cause I wanna know peoples theories, and response to my theory. Also I want to know if I'm just completely wrong.

A slightly edited version of the post:

I did some late night nukemap fiddling aligning the blast site as best I could west of concord, south of Quincy (about 16km southwest of the Boston city center, assuming each 'line' on the map represents 1km, if they represent 1 mi apply this to 16 miles instead), and concluded that the payload would have had to be somewhere between 50-100mt (assuming km, if in miles would need to be much larger) and would have had to be some type of dirty bomb (meaning a bomb designed to have higher than normal radiation yields at a certain explosion power, See 'Cobalt Bomb'). This explains a lot of things, including the presence of wooden structures as even a (theoretical) 100mt tsar bomba would only be able to do minor damage to Boston.

To add onto that, in order to achieve the crazy high levels of rads present in the glowing sea it would have had to be a dirty bomb. (I already referenced that, but I'm doing minimal editing from my original late night post)

Next point: The would have had to be an ICBM or SLBM due to the inaccuracy combined with the near impossibility of flying a strategic bomber across all of continental US to Boston from a Chinese airfield. You would have to be a special type of shitty bomber crew to miss your target by ~16km. Conclusion: somehow china is able to launch a 100mt h-bomb on a ICBM.... a payload that was only theoretically achieved by Russia, and never even close to US or Chinese achievement.

Ok, so summery: china launches a 100mt ICBM/SLBM (modern ICBMS & SLBMs are only at most about 15mt) at Boston, misses, hits 10km southwest, and a nuclear fireball heads towards sanctuary (in the hills of concord) basically what happens is: the windows in downtown Boston break, and there might be minor damage in sanctuary, but not the level of nuclear fire that the game presents. That's impossible, the larger the warhead the more ineffective, and higher payload needed to cover a larger area, it's not a linear progression.

Guess it's less of a theory and more of a Bethesda you fucked up, the glowing sea should be much closer to Boston city center.

NukeMap if you wanna mess around yourself. (Web based program using declassified military data to project the damage done to a city/area by a nuclear detonation)

Why do people hate fallout tactics

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 07:53 PM PDT

I find it very tactical, unforgiving And the storyline is similar to gengis khan conquering tribes and assimilating them, which is interesting

And it got a wide selection of combat approaches, vehicles, good storyline although its linear
