On the matter of Synths, their creation and whether they’re “human” or not.

Even though Synths are at the very core of the FO4, we know surprisingly very little about them and how they're made or what they're made of, and in my opinion none of the stuff we know make any sense.

As far as I know, there are 2 main opinions on Synth floating around:

    1) They are just like humans, they aren't faster, stronger, smarter...etc. They age, they need to eat, drink, poop and so on, they can reproduce and have children, aren't immune to radiation...etc. And all the extra skills and stuff they have is just thanks to the synth component and other implants the institute gave them. But if that was the case, then why make them ? You're basically cloning baseline humans, calling them Synths instead of "clones" and spreading them across the wastes. Why wouldn't the institute just give the augmentation to their own people and just use Gen 1&2s for labour ? And how come the BoS and major settlement doctors can't detect the implants in suspected synths ?

    2) They are completely organic, but they aren't like normal humans, they are stronger, faster, smarter, they don't gain weight, age or need food and water to survive, they're immune to rads...etc. And in that case I again fail to see the point in creating them, I mean in order to get to this point, the institute must have basically mastered genetic manipulation and more or less invented the Cyto-revitalisation treatment, so again, why is the institute busy making synths instead of turning its own people into genetically enhanced super humans in order to you know "redefine mankind" since that seems to be their end goal.

And perhaps most importantly, if that was the case, how come Synths are indistinguishable from baseline humans ? I mean wouldn't all their extra powers cause them to be different on like a genetic/cellular level ? I'm mean I'm no doctor but in order to have super strength wouldn't they have for instance denser muscle fibres ? Wouldn't the fact that they don't need food or don't get fat from food mean that their metabolism would be superhuman and they wouldn't retain fat from food ? Or the fact that they are immune to radiation mean they have some extra glands or organs or something working overtime to scrub or absorb any radiation from their bodies, or wouldn't the extra endurance mean they'd have reinforced bones or thicker skin ? Shouldn't detecting synths be as easy taking a tissue or DNA sample ?

Just how similar are deathclaws to horned chameleons?

    Posted: 23 May 2020 07:33 PM PDT

I'm aware that deathclaws are mutated horned chameleons, otherwise known as Jackson's chameleon, but the problem is, I see no similarities whatsoever. In both Fallout 1-3's deathclaws and 4's, there are just about no similarities between them and their non-mutated form, which is strange, because you can obviously tell what pretty much every other creature mutated from.

What are the technicalities of ghoul attraction/arousal with other ghouls?

    Posted: 23 May 2020 08:46 PM PDT

See with super mutants I understand it. Their brains have probably been evolved by the virus to be interested in other super mutants.

But with ghouls I don't get how some of them seem genuinely aroused by other ghouls. For instance Harland says his brief flame in the Bright flock had "the yellowest teeth" with affection.

Beggars can't be choosers so I understand being with other ghouls as a ghoul, but you can't just change your instincts. If I was a horrificly disfigured burn victim I don't think I'd suddenly become attracted to other burn victims.

Would attempting to load memories into a person work as a way of detecting synths?

    Posted: 23 May 2020 11:33 PM PDT

So one of the things that the Railroad does to help escaped synths is they just sort of load an entirely new life into their brains and set them free. We also see something similar in the quest line for Curie where her mind gets loaded into a synth that has shorted out (or whatever it was).

Well, that got me thinking. We never really see any mention of implanting new memories into non synths in game (to my knowledge). I would assume that this is because synths are probably much more "programmable" than people when it comes to memories. If this is correct, would that mean that a viable way of testing a person to see if they are a synth would be attempting to implant new memories into them? Has this been tried by the Railroad before and I just haven't noticed, or is something like this never mentioned in game?

What exactly is a mole person in 76

    Posted: 24 May 2020 01:22 AM PDT

So are they ghoulish pre war miners or are they just mole rat people? They seem pretty smart to be some sort of feral ghoul but they don't really look like a person if they were pre war, so what are they and how did they come to be?

Do we hear anything about fallout new vegas or how the Mojave was like in fallout 3 or any previous fallout games?

    Posted: 23 May 2020 04:24 PM PDT

Hello, I'm wondering if we get any information about the Mojave and the area of new vegas in fallout 3 or any previous fallout games. I know we get a few references in fallout 4, but I don't know about the rest. Thank you for the answers in advance!

    What is north of Appalachia?

    Posted: 23 May 2020 08:51 AM PDT

All the Raiders say they were better to the north, and I think Pittsburgh is supposed to be heading north, but even on that date 25 years after the war, wasn't that area contaminated?

Is there any confirmation that other places got bombed

    Posted: 23 May 2020 04:14 PM PDT

It's confirmed that US, China, and parts of Mexico got bombed but is it possible that other countries didn't get bombed and are just living normal lives?

Why civilisation hasn’t been rebuilt yet?

    Posted: 23 May 2020 07:14 AM PDT

In Fallout 4, literally 200 years after the bombs fell, the survivors are still living of scraps and barely making it through the day (except some major factions like the BoS, Diamond City, Institute, etc.)

I mean, in the real world, we as a species have created so many countries, buildings, technologies and all sorts of stuff in a span of 200 that it just seems illogical that the Fallout Universe is still so disorganised. Anyways, is there a lore-wise explanation as to why that happens?

    Can Super Mutants reproduce/have offspring?

    Posted: 23 May 2020 03:26 AM PDT

Super mutants are spread all over the fallout universe. I know some were created by Master, the institute, and many come from the Vault. But, I feel like that there are still so many mutants especially if humans are skirmishing with them quite often. How can they reclaim land and be such a nuisance if their numbers are depleting? Especially if the master is gone, the institute gets blown up, and a specific number of people lived in Vault 87?
