I LOVE how Caesar's Legion is depicted in New Vegas

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 01:08 AM PDT

This opinion is rather unpopular due to the little amount of the Legion that we get to see, but hear me out.

In New Vegas, the Legion is basically the worst of the worst. They slaughter whole towns, treat women as second class citizens at best, and their main source of success is brutality. As a history major in community college, as I play the game more and more, I realize that while the Legion is modeled after Ancient Rome, they're far from being a true imitation of Rome and more of a warped fan-fiction.

First, I'll start off on what is accurate. The names and ranks, how Latin is actually pronounced during Ancient Rome, the heavy use of melee weapons, lower level commanders having more autonomy, and that's about it. I don't know about the names of the currency, so if anyone does, feel free to post it in the comments. Nevertheless my point still stands on how little there is that's accurate.

First lets start off on the decimation. For those who don't know, the decimation is a punishment in where 1/10th of the army would be killed by the other 9/10th. In the Legion, Caesar would use this every time a commander fails at his mission, but in Ancient Rome, the decimation was rarely, single digits rarely in it's centuries of history.

Another inaccuracy is the Legion being an army of slaves. The Roman army during it's peak wasn't made up of slaves, but was all volunteers, and they were seen as a vital part of the empire.

The third is in religious toleration. In the Legion, the Cult of Mars is the only accepted religion. In contrast, Rome tolerated other religions, so long as they weren't a cult, or seen as a threat to Rome.

The fourth part is the Legion's "honor." When talking to Lucius, he tells the Courier that the Legion doesn't have snipers after the First Battle of Hoover Dam because the Legion saw snipers as dishonorable. Anyone who knows how the Roman Army works would know that the Romans were pragmatists through and through. If they were at Hoover Dam, and not the Legion, they would've made their own group of snipers or had a counter to snipers without hesitation.

And this brings me to the main inaccuracy, is their source of success. Caesar's Legion's source of it's success is in their brutality. The Romans' key to success was in their ability to adapt to the situation at hand. In the First Punic War, Rome was at a disadvantage when facing Carthage's navy, so Rome decided to change their tactics to better face Carthage. This resulted them in winning many battles against Carthage. Another is in the Siege of Masada, where the Romans built a ramp to reach the vertical cliffs of the fort.

Now. As you're reading this, you're probably asking, "How does this relate to me loving the Legion's depiction?"

Well it's because of the fact that it is inaccurate.

We have to keep in mind of the world of Fallout. It's been over 200 years since the Great War, and with that, much of the history of the past was lost as a result. Although groups like the Followers of the Apocalypse have done tremendous work in preserving the past, there's only so much they can get before it's lost forever. As a result of this, a young Edward Sallow can only know so much of Rome. The rest is either lost, or it has been warped to a completely new beast.

Why is the Space Suit better than Leather Armour (Reinforced) ?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 08:56 AM PDT

Seriously! It has the same DT (10) , weighs less, and comes with +10 Rad Resist.

Also the helmet has 4 DT, DOUBLE of that compared to say a Trooper helmet which only has 2 DT

    I've never noticed until now.

Returning to play Fallout: New California and had some questions about stability.

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 09:19 AM PDT

Back shortly after it came out, I tried to play FNC because it intrigued me alot, and I loved the little bit I was able to play. The issue that i ran into was the amount of instability and crashes that I got when playing it. Now, I have recently upgraded from a laptop with a Geforce 1050 and a crappy cpu to a desktop with an RTX 2080 super with a Ryzen 7 3700x, however no RAM improvements. do you guys think it will make much of a difference, and are there many compatible mods out there to make the experience better?

Indecision in which way to go, Suggestion needed.

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 09:05 AM PDT

    SPECIAL - 3, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1 (15 in Total). Trait: Heavy Handed. Tag: Barter, Melee, Guns.

    Roleplay:

Initially, Jason used to be a store guard with Occasional Drug use tendency. He grew up in a slum that kinda' resemblances Freeside. In his younger days he tried to learn some form of Craftsmanship but his knucklehead kept him behind. But he was somewhat okay to bear some weights and had some agility for store keeping but most important of all could withstand occasional beating from the local goons. So he never had to beg, he could earn his drug money on top of a somewhat full belly.

But then Opportunity hit him, he got an offer as a courier. And his first job was a bit weird.. a fancy looking Platinum Chips. Easy to carry, he went on with it...

Fast forward, He Intensely trained himself. Now he's not that dumb and can take some serious beating. He even implanted machines in his body. He has one goal... to track down his killer. Then he met House and went to Tops Casino only to lose Benny Again...

Which Faction should he work on ??

    1. Will he work for House ?? As he promises luxuries beyond his imagination. All life of poverty finally ending.
    2. Will he work for NCR ?? As the republic promises a chaos free life with Laws and regulation. No longer his luck of being a slumdog may hold him back.
    3. Will he submit to Yesman ?? As the lack of any true power throughout his life awakened a hunger of dominance. (This is least favorable for the character as he lacks intellect)
    4. Will he aid the Legion ?? As he can take revenge on the people who caused all his suffering.

Where would you want to live in the FNV world?

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 10:26 PM PDT

And what would you do for a living? For me I would choose the Mojave outpost. Its for the most part safe and would always have new people coming through. For work I would trade/sell stuff and hunt various animals and sell the hides and meat. I would also help escort caravans occasionally and do mercenary work for the NCR. Plus it has my favorite companion there Cass.

My second choice would be a traveling merchant and mercenary. Along with me would be all the companions you get in the game. That would be a dream team. You would have great combat abilities with Boone,Lilly,Cass, Veronica and Raul plus Raul is also a good mechanic. The intelligence and science skills from Arcade, and you would have a floating robot and a cyborg dog. No one would fuck with you lmao.

Issues with NVSE not launching after working just recently?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 06:38 AM PDT

I successfully installed NVSE last evening (or so I thought). I installed the latest version, I then launched NVSE and opened the console at the New Vegas main menu screen and typed "GetNVSEVersion" and hit enter. I got "NVSE version 5."

I then installed a few more mods (all very big/popular ones like Nevada Skies and the super popular weapons mod like #2 most popular all time etc). I'm not at home so I don't recall the exact names. Anyways, now when launching NVSE I just get an error that the game has "stopped working" and often times I have to ctrl+alt+del and close it manually via task manager.

I'm not launching NVSE from within Vortex, do I have to do that? I just right click the desktop shortcut I made and run as admin.. and again right after install it worked and I verified via the console.

THE ONE thing that really stands out is me installing "JIP LN plugin for NVSE" I'm assuming this messed with my .ini somehow and I'm missing a step.

This is driving me crazy and I'm wondering what else it could be. I highly doubt installing 2 of the top 5 most popular mods of all time disables NVSE... that just doesn't make sense.

    Any suggestions?
