[FO4] The Railroad sucks but so does having to kill Deacon.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 11:53 AM PST

Let's face it; the Railroad sucks.

When we first had a glimpse of them in Fallout 3 we were all probably very excited about meeting them someday. Then comes Fallout 4 and we find out they're really underwhelming.

They're a crappy group literally living in a hole in the ground. They're way in over their heads about how important they are. They're idiots who, while pursuing a noble goal, let multiple agents risk their lives and die to save one person at a time. Desdemona is a fanatic extremist.

But, Deacon is fucking cool. And the fact that you have to kill him if you go with the BOS or The Institute really is a bummer.

For me it was like a dramatic movie scene. The BOS tells me to kill the Railroad. I go back to Sanctuary to try to find Deacon. I didn't want to reset him but I figured that'd be better than killing him.

It's thundering and raining and I'm going around trying to locate him but he's not there. I realize he's figured out something's not right and gone back to HQ. I finally bring myself to read the reset code he gave me, so I can memorize it and use it as soon as I go to HQ, just in case he really is a synth.

    "You can't trust everyone."

Well played you magnificent bastard. Well played.

Why is it that new vegas has more quests than fallout 4 does? It's just crazy that an older game has more quests

    An Alternative Take on FO4

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 05:02 AM PST

For being so smart the Institute didnt really take Shaun in the most intelligent way. Sure they way they're introduced sets up morivation for the survivor to find their child but they could have done it so much smarter. A comment about Shaun needing some emergency medical attention and the spuse holding him probaly would have let him go easier. Or they could have just taken both and made the game about finding them. Keep Shaun as Father but have the spouse replaced with a perfect synth and leading the Railroad. Now its up to the player to pick between their child or spouse. Or if the developers where feeling extra spicey make peace between the two factions.

I'd love to see a nuclear disposal site in a future Fallout game

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 03:35 PM PST

For those that aren't aware, there is a site in southern New Mexico (known as the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant) where the US stores its spent nuclear fuel. By international agreement, there are to be permanent monuments erected around the site at at the site itself warning of the dangers of the radition in the area, where exactly it is, and what not to do in order to avoid contamination of the environment/death of the reader. The monuments are designed to last a minimum of 10,000 years, and are inscribed in the languages of every UN member.

It would be so cool to see something like this in a future Fallout game. No doubt it would be overrun with super mutants and other nasties, the local human population would avoid it like the plague, and in order to have any hope of surviving an exploration of it you'd need to be a pretty high level and be suitably equipped.

Will Bethesda ever swallow their pride and reunite the Fallout NV team?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 04:24 AM PST

In a year and a half the team dedicated to making Fallout New Vegas managed to make a better fallout game in every aspect when compared to Fallout 3 and 4.

Fallout 3 did great at paving the road for NV, but not much else. RPG elements were weak, The dlc's pale in comparison, Combat was lackluster or sometimes outright boring and tedious, and the whole game served as little more than an interesting atmosphere to explore, and a story that's interesting to visit once or maybe twice. At least for me after my second play through I had felt like I had explored everything and didn't have much motivation to revisit the game despite for mods. Not to mention the game took 6 years to create with countless delays. But we won't harp on FO3 too much because it was the first try at bringing fallout to a fully 3D world, and while it may not be considered as good as NV it was groundbreaking for the time, and I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy playing it.

Fallout NV managed to do what any sequel is expected to and drastically improved on each and every one of the aspects FO3 dropped the ball on. We can cut FO3 some slack because they had to create all the framework that NV merely built on top of but you still can't disregard the drastic improvement between the games. The weapons were better, the RPG depth was unheard of, combat felt 10x more immersive, and the DLC's were insanely well made and a blast to explore. The games been out for a decade and I still learn about new lore and mini-quests. I think it goes without saying that had Obsidian been able to actually use all 3 years allotted to them they could have made a game that made any other RPG look like a joke. NV is a criminally unfinished game and yet it manages to be arguably the best Fallout in the entire franchise. (Fallout 1 and 2 are great but I feel they are so unique they shouldn't be grouped with 3 through 76). Overall Fallout New Vegas gave us everything we wanted in a Fallout game all while being on an ever-shortening deadline.

Fallout 4 did great at what they wanted it to. The graphics are great (at least by my standards), combat is immersive, and the changes to the behavior of power armor and VATS was an amazing improvement to me. But it ultimately dropped the ball on what we want from any Fallout game. We want immersive quest lines and factions, interesting lore, moral conflicts, and the whole macabre theme of "comedy" the previous fallout games were so good at. The "comedy" of Fallout 4 felt gimmicky and "bubblegummed" for lack of better words. The other games focused on the dark themes of the human psyche, made you question your own morals every step of the way. In Fallout 4 I just cheese through as Combat Chad without questioning why I'm slaying these Raiders by the dozen, every enemy in the game really just feels like cannon fodder for the SS, and why waste my time clearing out these raider and gunner camps when they'll just be back the next time I stroll through? Plus what's the deal with all the essential NPC's? In NV killing an NPC felt like a big decision, you can fail quests, you can miss lore, and they all had names. Being able to slaughter Vulpes in Nipton was a big part of my RP while playing for the NCR. Not to mention losing a companion in NV felt like losing a friend, I remember losing Raul before I completed his storyline and reloaded a two hour old save just so I could get him back. In FO4 most named NPCs will just fall on their ass and huff and puff for a few minutes. Completely ruining any chance of playing a genocide run, or even just wanting to kill that one annoying NPC (thinking of you preston). Overall if you just want to gun down some mercenaries and mole rats then FO4 won't disappoint. It's great at being a fun world to adventure and throws plenty of enemies at you to cut down, but it still feels empty when compared to NV. The quests are beyond repetitive and the factions lack any depth at all. All I have to do is clear out a couple low level raiders and ghouls and I'm the General of the minutemen? I just have to walk through a building with Paladin Danse and he offers me a position in the brotherhood? I just have to follow a trail and remember some letters and I'm a member of the Railroad? It all just seems so hollow and gimmicky. In NV if you want to join the Brotherhood you have to go through multiple quests, possibly replace an Elder, and singlehandedly kill one of the most well-armed groups in the entire Mojave. It makes the player really feel like they are proving themselves to these factions. FO4 just doesn't have that, you can become the General of the minutemen but Preston will still be sending you off to rural homesteads to kill a few mirelurks. The game feels so hollow I find myself modding the game beyond recognition and fully embracing the game as a shooter and looter. It doesn't feel much like fallout but more-so a borderlands clone in a Fallout setting. Overall FO4 is a great FPS but a terrible RPG when considering what NV was able to accomplish.

I won't touch on FO76 because I've always considered it as a multiplayer dlc for FO4 and I've never cared enough for Bethesda's cash grab antics to download the game. It looks like it'd be fun to play with friends. But I write paragraphs on my qualms with a fictional universe so I don't have too many of those.

So even though my hopes for the old Obsidian team coming back to make the next fallout is little more than a pipe-dream. I still pray that Bethesda will eventually swallow their pride, and give up production of the next Fallout. Because Bethesda just doesn't seem to understand what makes Fallout, Fallout.

    Fallout 4 Factions

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 04:02 AM PST

Between The BOS, The Minutemen, The Railroad, and The Institute who is really the best faction for the Commonwealth. The BOS are focused on killing anyone not human. Even people like strong, Virgil, and Hancock people who could help them. They also bully nearby settlements for supply's. So are they just raiders but with better armor, guns, and training. The Minutemens motive's are good. But they don't have the equipment or training to protect the Commonwealth. They also have had a lot of mistrust and turning against one another. The Railroad they are more focused on saving synth than protecting and restoring the Commonwealth. They lack the skills to completely take and hold the Commonwealth. The institute are just truly bad. They kidnap people and replace them with synths in the name of science. They have the training, the equipment, and the troops to take and hold the Commonwealth. They even have the supply's to completely restore the Commonwealth. But why do they not help? So here's the question, which faction is really the best for the Commonwealth?

    Fallout 4, Survival Difficulty Change?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 01:17 AM PST

    Hello Everyone,

I had a quick question. Is the current "survival" difficulty different from the released version?

I think I remember watching older Fallout 4 videos about people doing walk-throughs on the previous "survival" difficulty and in it they could save as much as they wanted along with fast-traveling(I think).

Also, did the previous "survival" difficulty become the current "very-hard" difficulty?

Thank you for reading and replying.

    Have a nice day!

Fallout 4 Nuka World dlc- if you joined the raiders, what group did you back? *Possible spoilers for the dlc*

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 10:24 PM PST

So I got back into playing the game because I need to get the raider achievements. I personally like the Pack and the Disciples (I do believe that's what they are called). I'm not fond of the Operators gang though. I'm having trouble deciding who to give the various parks to when I take them over.

So I was curious on what group/gang did you support in the dlc and how did you Divide up the parks?

Does a minutemen/railroad victory doom the commonwealth?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 11:15 AM PST

The minutemen and railroad are presented as the most morally good factions. Unlike the institue and BOS, These factions have virtually no flaws or controversial outlooks. However both of these factions lack the technology and numbers that the others have. On top of that the minutemen were destroyed by relatively weak enemies and the railroad lacks experience dealing with the creatures in the commonwealth. So do you think that the lack of the BOS or Institute ultimately will lead to the commonwealth succumbing to the horrors of the commonwealth?
