A potentially controversial opinion, but Fallout 4's fundamental reimagining of Power Armour is an outstanding improvement over its implementation in every other Fallout title, period.

I don't really frequent this sub, so I can't very well judge how popular of an opinion this is, but I think that the way Fallout 4 re-imagined Power Armour is easily one of the best and most innovative things about the modern 3D games, that enhances both gameplay and lore.

To be perfectly clear - I'm not talking about the way it's handled as a resource. I agree with the majority of people who think that power armour is given to you WAY too early in Fallout 4. It should be much rarer, as should fusion cores, too, and only be introduced as a high-level, end-game utility. But that's not what I'm talking about here.

In Fo3 and F: NV, Power Amour is just a mid-to-end game suit of particularly strong armour that slows you down. And... that's it, really. You're a bit tankier, a little slower, more resistant to rads, and that's it. Just a personal opinion, but I also think it looks dorky as hell. The way you're meant to be wearing this supposedly giant hulking suit of armour, and yet it's just kind of pasted onto your normal model, to me, never sat right. Your animations never change, it feels thin and small just mapped onto your normal body, and it just doesn't make you feel as invincible as, canonically, Power Armour made you in an on-ground fight.

And then along comes Fallout 4 and completely re-invents Power Armour into what it was always meant to be. It turns it into a literal vehicle to be piloted instead of just an item of clothing to be worn, that needs resources to operate and in return can be modified in exactly the way you'd expect from such a massive piece of machinery.

The way they redesigned the Power Armour variants and transformed them into massive, beastly tanks on legs was fantastic. The feeling of slamming a fusion core into the back of one, wrenching the entire thing open, and then getting completely enveloped in it as you get ready to fuck shit up. The second you start moving, you can tell that you're big. You can hear your great thunking footsteps wherever you go, the groan of servos and motors and metal as you charge forward. When you enter dialogue, you're almost always looking down at the person you're talking to, seeing as you're now like, a foot taller than what you normally are.

And then there's the other secondary mechanics of Power Armour. The way you can eject spent fusion cores as huge last-ditch nuclear explosives, the way you can mix and match variants on a standardised frame, the way you can upgrade them with perfectly logical and extremely useful things like stimpak dispensers, enhanced targeting systems, etc.

To me, the entire effect is magical. One of my favourite sensations in Fallout 4 was coming back home after a particularly gruelling quest, restocking, reloading, getting my favourite suit of Power Armour all repaired and shiny, and then just go and stomp around the Boston Commonwealth in my massive, nuclear, unstoppable suit of utter fucking death. Just going and atomising the horrifying irradiated monsters of the wasteland with my bare fucking hands without a care in the god damn world while 'The Wanderer' blasts from my Pip-Boy at 150 decibels.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that Fo3 and NV are products of their time, and there just wasn't the time or resources to turn Power Armour into what it is in Fallout 4. But despite everything Fallout 4 did wrong from a story and design perspective, holy shit did it get Power Armour right.

[FO3] Fallout 3 gets pretty disturbing some times

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 08:24 AM PST

Everytime Fallout 4 crashes with mods loaded, do 25 push ups.

    I personally enjoy fallout 4

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 02:39 AM PST

    I never thought I'd say this , I'm enjoying fallout 4 a lot

The story is uhh , not gonna say the worst , but definitely not the best

The true fun thing about fallout 4 is the gameplay and weapon modifications , the weapon modifications here are handled by actual gamers , you can turn a simple laser pistol into a deadly long range sniper using useless junk

The gameplay is very fun , lots of enemies to fight , better V.A.T.S , actual-guns , etc

It's not a fallout game , more like an fps survival

    Really love it

[FO4] Who are some NPC's you wish were companions? *spoilers*

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 07:35 PM PST

I really would've liked Elder Maxson as a companion. I get why he isn't, but, at the same time, imagine that pairing. Especially if you aren't the type of player to use Power Armor but still joined the BoS. Max affinity could give you a perk that let's you do more damage to deathclaws.

I also wanted Tina from Vault 81 to be a companion. 1. Because my current character really would have romanced her, and 2. I love the voice actress. Also, she talks about wanting to leave the Vault (which she would be able to if the quest wasn't bugged), but she wouldn't be able to survive out there without training from the SS.

Glory is another, and honestly, I don't know why she isn't already a companion. It seems like she would be perfect for loud players in the railroad and Decon for stealth players.

    Who would you have liked?

    robot settlements! (fallout 4 automatron)

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 07:31 PM PST

now i know that someone probably already found this but in fallout four robots count as non eating or drinking population.Since they are settlers they can be assigned jobs.(here is the fun part) using these robots you can man artillery, get food and i haven't tested it but man shops! this makes it amazing to have these robots work for settlers as settlers can focus on more important jobs rather than farming or artillery.

anyway this was just some cool thing i found for fallout 4 automatron settler builders.

Best way to get rare junk ?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 03:12 AM PST

It's so hard to find uncommon or rare junk like fiber , adhesive , gold , aluminium , etc.

Anybody knows good ways to get useful junk ? Other than buying it since vendors either sell junk for a large price or they don't sell them

Anyone think it be neat if we would be able to have the Kings in New Vegas run the Lucky 38 casino?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 10:11 PM PST

I always felt the Kings in Freeside should've had more to them. I would have loved to get them running the Lucky 38 if we took the route of independence.

Many A True Nerd is bar none my favorite Fallout youtber

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 03:08 PM PST

I know that he isn't an exclusively Fallout youtuber but his Fallout videos usually get the most views. His commentary, his editing, his jokes, his level of detail as he describes every quest he comes across is, in his own words, flipping marvelous. His Kill Everything run for Fallout 3 is one of the best video series on youtube in my personal opinion

    Quick question about the Institute

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 04:59 AM PST

Hi, how can they extend the life of Kellogg by over a century, 3D print humans, bring back extinct animals and build a Star Trek teleporter (although that's a bit of an unfair point, since random homeless drifters can seemingly throw one together with old trash and some screws) but they can't take care of a form of cancer that we can treat today with fairly optimistic survival rates?

I think BGS needs to expand or buy out another studio to help solely with the development of their single player games.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 09:14 PM PST

Yes, I know BGS has expanded in the past few years but if you really look at the expansions they have made none of the studious or " expansions" are any help with the development of their single player RPGs. The studious they've added either specialize in the development of online multiplayer games or mobile games. The single player IPs they are known for are still primarily developed by the BGS Maryland team. BGS games have been known to take several years to develop in the past, sometimes taking up to 4 or 5 years of development time. With the addition of another IP ( Starfield) the world load for the BGS Maryland team has grown. The rotation of these three IPs is a 9 - 12 year cycle. Meaning if they released TES 6 tomorrow it would be another 9 - 12 years until TES 7, same with Starfield and Fallout. With the addition of another Studio BGS could release far for games. Releasing a new Fallout, TES and Starfield every 3 to 4 years.

    Help with NCR hit squad

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 07:53 PM PST

So, this is the first time I've gotten the NCR's bad side before the battle of Hover Dam (If I sided with House/Legion/Myself) I got the Hated reputation after killing some of their troops escaping from the Powder Ganger prison near Primm, naturally, I get a visit from the rangers, so naturally I panic as I assumed you had to be vilified to warrant hit squads, long story short I help out the NCR a bit (Mojave outpost, Helios one, and the hostage mission) and I manage to get it back up to Sneering Punk, at this point I assumed I was in the clear, nope! I get another visit telling me I have 2 days left to make amends, so, what rep do I need to be at to avoid death by ranger? Is there any more work I can do for them or is my best bet to leg it to Vegas and get my rep cleared by the story?

Fallout 4- I want to do a survival play through, any tips?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 05:43 AM PST

I just beat the game for the first time and I pretty much rushed through and did it at level 24 on Normal difficulty

I'm not that good but I want to challenge myself to do survival difficulty. I'm very used to fast travel and quick saving before a situation goes sour so any tips?

    Would be appreciated:)

    Killing rude characters

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 11:26 PM PST

I just started Operation Angorage and even tho my character is the literal god of the wasteland destroying all evil and killing deathclaws by the dozens. These guys decided they wanted to talk to me like I was a random waster who cant hit the broad side of a barn. I also noticed I didnt get any bad Karma for offing them. So is it really evil? 🤔🤔

    A bug with safes ???

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:08 PM PST

I have a ton of settlements and locations cleared and recently i've been going back and making sure i've got all the junk to use for building. Well, All of the safes I have found are locked again and filled with stuff when I know for a fact I already grabbed it all. I'm not sure if it's a bug or if it's supposed to happen and I'm just dumb.

Does Fallout 4 contain the memory overflow issue?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 09:02 PM PST

I play mainly on Xbox, and it seems that the more I play, the worse my frame rate gets. I don't go into downtown Boston unless I absolutely have to, because the game crashes almost every time. Any ideas on how to fix that. I'm on an Xbox One S
