Is there no real peaceful way when choosing a side in New Vegas?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 06:55 AM PST

It's my first playthrough and I'm losing my shit trying to decide which faction is best for the Mojave. It seems like every faction I support, there are corresponding consequences.. There's no real "sunshines and rainbows" path to take that gives everyone a peaceful outcome.

If I side with Mr. House, he asks me to wipe out the BoS which is a big no no for my good character.. Same goes for the NCR and I thought they were a good faction overall..

Don't even get me started with the Legion..

If I go with Yes Man, he asks me to kill House.. Agghhh why is this game making me feel some attachment and root for fictional characters and give me a hard time to decide like no other game could?

Very Few Games Have Got Me Hooked As Much As Fallout Has.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:49 PM PST

    Puts on not-so-subtle Fanboy hat

Was feeling the need to do a Fallout appreciation post.

The one thing I love about gaming is immersing myself in a dense world with many story opportunities. In my opinion, Fallout does this the best. It one of the mains reason the majority of my gaming life has been spent playing this series, of which I am starting again once I finish this post.

It's world is contains everything that interests me. The Post-WWII era, Post-Apocalyptic environments, old style music, 50's era science fiction, history, RPGs, and survival stories.

Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 4 are my favorite games ever. The series as a whole is a 10/10 even with Fallout 76 taking a massive diarrhea dump in the next door Vault bathroom.

I always find reasons to go back and play. It's like watching a commercial for Disneyland and then suddenly all you want to do is go there. I see one thing that reminds me of Fallout and next thing I know I'm booting up the first game faster than you can say "War, war never changes".

Ok I'm done, thanks for reading.

    I don't give a damn about synths

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 01:51 PM PST

In fo4, all of the factions (besides the minute men) are defined by their feelings about machines that i literally do not give a single fuck about. i sided with the minutemen most of my first playthrough and was pissed that i couldn't immediately continue a main quest with them because i have to decide whether or not i want to genocide a bunch of robots. i just want what's best for the commonwealth without also deciding the fate of shit i dont care about.

brotherhood is genocide, railroad is a bunch of hippies, and the institute doesn't have the best interests of the commonwealth in mind.

Is it ever explained why there's no working cars in the wasteland?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:53 PM PST

It doesn't seem that far fetched. Cars aren't really affected by EMPs and the ones that are, are the really modern ones like today's. Also would there be anything affected by the EMPs? Like EMPs only affect the compact appliances that use transistors and transistors were never invented. So what the hell why can't I hop on a motorcycle instead of walking across the map just to trade

Minutemen had a lot of potential.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 11:23 PM PST

Bethesda didn't focused on Minutemen because they focused to munch on the other factions. The minutemen could've have a dialogue quest and minor fight quest. And maybe like more former minutemen would introduce themselves so they could a officer of a settlement and contain the peace in a settlement. Diamond City and Goodneighbour could've have a partnership under Minutemen leadership, like how Bunker Hill allied to the Minutemen.

They only use the Minutemen so we could be introduced to the settlement stuff.

Bethesda had a lot of potential for minutemen, but they focused to much on Institute, BoS, & Railroad.

The lonesome road doesn't feel like the last DLC to fallout new Vegas. Dead Money does.

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 01:47 AM PST

The first and most surface level reason is because I feel like dead money is the hardest thing in fallout NV or maybe any fallout. That could very easily be because the majority of characters I play are high intelligence low strength/endurance characters and I normally invest in guns and energy instead of melee and unarmed.

The second reason is because I feel that Elijah was more hyped up and foreshadowed than Ulysses. He had a name and we knew what he was before we knew anything Ulysses was always so mysterious I personally forgot he existed the majority of the time. But Elijah was always mentioned by the BOS and he was more heavily featured in old world blues I know that came out after but I'm treating this as if it did not. Also Elijah seems to want to destroy more his whole plan is to release the fog out onto the waste land and Ulysses just wants to nuke the legion and the NCR it seems to me like the fog is worse and would spread more but that's debatable.

The final reason and what I feel is my main argument is the themes of the DLCs. The lonesome road has this feeling of regret and trying to make up for a mistake where as dead money's theme is to let go. Even the followers having to let go of their respective issues seems to hold more emotion than Ulysses entire story. (To me at least)

This might be because I struggled with addiction for years but I think it's much more final and much more of a healing process to actually let go of something completely and accept that what ever it was is gone than it is to feel regretful and try to make up for things you did. But that's just me.

Maybe dead money just resonates with me more but I really feel like it is much more of a final journey for the player than the lonesome road.

I'd love to hear other people's opinions on this or what dlc is the hardest in their mind or what dlc resonates with them the most.

    Just noticed this about Wadsworth

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 11:37 AM PST

After he says, "How may I serve you, master?" he whispers "not that I really want to...". I've been playing this game since release and it still has stuff in it I haven't found yet lol.

Edit: So alot of people are confused on who I'm talking about. You're robo butler in Fallout 3 is Wadsworth and your robo butler from Fallout 4 is Codsworth.

Couple of Fallout 4 Equipment Questions (F4 Spoilers)

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 06:48 AM PST

Hello r/Fallout - a couple of questions that have been bugging me for a while, that I can't seem to find the answer to on the wiki.

    (1) Troubleshooter's weapons do 50% more damage against robots. Would the damage bonus also apply to synths? Technically, all synths are robots (no matter what The Railroad says). To go a bit further, would it apply to:

    (a) Gen 1 and 2 synths - who clearly are robots

    (b) Gen 3 Synths who look like humans but are clearly marked as Synths (e.g. the generic "Synth" NPC found in The Institute)

    (c) "Hidden" Synths, who appear to be human but are actually synths (e.g. Art or Danse)

There are also armour pieces that give a protection bonus from robots - same question applies (although I assume the answer will be the same).

    (2) When you have a weapon with a limb damage bonus, would this also apply to body areas you can target in VATS, but is not a limb? For instance, a fusion core on an NPC wearing power armour.

The overseer from Fallout 1 just hates you.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:24 PM PST

I decided to blow the dust off of Fallout 1 and replay it and started thinking about the beginning. For those of you who haven't gotten around to playing the first Fallout game the plot is that the vault is running out of water because the water chip is going bad and you have to go to find a replacement. Instead of sending a team of well-equipped Vault dwellers which would increase the odds of finding the water chip the overseer just sends one assshole into the hostel radiated Wasteland filled with mutants murderers thieves Raiders and worst of all Jehovah's Witnesses. Which leads me to believe that there was nothing wrong with the water chip it's just that everybody in the vault couldn't fucking stand you.

    The minute men are broken

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 09:51 PM PST

I was playing though fallout and I thought I would try the minute men it's the only one I haven't completed yet. I got on my Xbox and started to play though than the next day I get back on and the lady you need to talk to to build the artillery cannons just doesn't want to talk to me. After uninstalling all my mods and creation club items and trying everything for about 2 hours I gave up and got on my pc. I try the minute men again and the same thing happens. I don't know if I'm just getting unlucky or if something is wrong but some help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd think the first thing House would have us do is turn on his Fusion Plant

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 05:57 AM PST

After installing the Mk 2 software upgrade, I'm surprised House doesn't make his next immediate move, energy independence. The NCR could really screw over New Vegas by cutting off power and who knows how the NCR are going to react if they feel provoked by the Securitron upgrades.

Power is critical, Mr House himself is literally helpless without it (though that does raise the question of how House kept his systems online before he negotiated for power from the Hoover Dam if he didnt have his power plant online. Does the Lucky 38 have yet another redundant power system just for House and his personal systems? One designed to last hundreds of years?)

Instead Mr House's priorities are, in order

    1) Bring his additional Securitrons online.

    2) Befriend or destroy the Boomers so that their artillery is either not present or firing at our preferred targets.

    3) Create an alliance with the Omertas.

    4) Destroy the Brotherhood of Steel

    5) Save President Kimball

    6) Finally, become energy independent.

If I was House I'd have them done in this order.

    1) Energy Independence.

    2) BoS Destruction. (There's a strong argument for doing this first)

    3) Bring additional Securitrons online (after the Brotherhood is dealt with)

    4) Befriend or Destroy the Boomers

    5) Create alliance with Omertas.

Special) If we haven't accomplished objectives 1-3 before President Kimball arrives, he's on his own. 1 and 2 are too urgent and we can't anger Caesar before accomplishing 3.

Really the Brotherhood should have been destroyed long before you showed up. The Securitrons have been policing New Vegas for years now, providing a tempting target for the Brotherhood. The only reason not to deal with them is House didn't have anyone as good as the Courier to work with. Benny was going to be his right hand man and Benny wouldn't have been up to this task.

What would happen to the people in space when the bombs dropped?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 03:15 PM PST

We know that space objects like Archimedes II are in orbit of earth when the bombs dropped, so this got me thinking that maybe there were humans in space when the bombs dropped and they died because of the lack of food and water. Do we have any evidence of humans being in space when the bombs dropped?

What do you guys think happened to the Chicago Enclave outpost?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 01:55 PM PST

As we all know, canonically, the Enclave is almost completely destroyed after Fallout 2 and Fallout 3. Most of their forces are dead or have scattered and assimilated into the wasteland. Though, there was an Enclave outpost in Chicago that has been mentioned in Fallout games.

What do you guys think happened to this outpost? Do you think remnants of the Enclave reorganized there, or do you think the Enclave is gone for good (possibly to the Midwestern brotherhood in the same area)? While on this tone, do you think we will ever get a Fallout game again with the Enclave as one of the main faction(s)?

Suggestions to help with a fan film.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 10:53 AM PST

So i was thinking about making a fallout fan film where it was set in indiana and the location around it. The story was originally about a guy looking for a cure that would save him but it turned into a story about a courier, a ex-raider and a biker that is a ghoul who are trying to bring a cure to a collection of towns that could help them survive a plague that came out of nowhere. I was thinking would it be lore breaking if the bad guys were a gang of bikers who still had stuff like some bike since they would know how to repair them and they could be fuel by microfusion cells. Would that be too lore-breaking or not? If you guys have any suggestions I don't mind.
