How long did it take for the radiation levels to drop to a survivable rate in most areas?

I know randall clark lived in a cave for a few years if I recall, but I'm sure not many others had a safe spot to lay low with the survival skills to stay alive in such a small area for so long. So how long was it before wastelanders went back out into the general areas of ruins to scavenge and whatnot?

Seeking Enclave info for my raider character backstory!

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 12:44 AM PST

Hi, I'm creating a Raider character for my FO4 Nuka World playthrough and I need a good backstory!

I'm thinking he grew up in the Enclave Military during the timeline of FO3

I've never seen Enclave children, but if I'm understanding correctly, the Enclave gave shelter to generations much like succesful vaults. Does it make sense that my character grew up in an Enclave base?? If so,which Enclave base/ shelter should he be from?

I'm thinking my character was betrayed and abandoned by the Enclave, possibly during the events of broken steel. What's a cool idea for that? Either something to do with a major canonical event in the game, or a concievable story of a patrol lead astray by deranged leadership in desperate times or something (maybe they even tried to kill him).

Alone, deadly, and with already no morale, he had to steal and murder to survive in the wasteland, until maybe he joined the talon company. He thought he found his lifes purpose until Talon Company also betrayed him and fragged him over caps or something trivial (I want to create him with serious facial scarring from burns, so want a good backstory for that). Any other ideas for how he got burnt?

Then he decided to use his talents to pave his own way, becomeing a rogue merc and would get into fights with raiders and talon co. all around DC, until eventually joining the Good Fighters at the GNR Plaza (creation club for FO4), not because he cared about the cause, but for the caps and a chance to hit Talon Company hard.

After fighting the good fight and kicking Talon Co. ass, he flew a busted Talon Co. vertibird as far as he could take it to get away from the post BOS/ post Enclave Capital Wasteland and ended up in the commonwealth to take on Nuka World and become overboss.

Any ideas or suggestions, even stuff that don't have anything to do with my loose criteria are much appreciated!!

    Thanks

How did cats and dogs survive the nuclear blast without changes, but cows and deers got mutated?

I noticed how Dogmeat looked perfect and the cat from Diamond City did too. Ashes from Vault 81 doesn't count because he's from a vault. How did they survive all those years?

Is it theoretically possible to build a fully functioning almost pre-war like house in fallout 4?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 11:59 PM PST

In fallout 76 we can build pristine houses that look completely untouched by the war or even the ravages of time. But it does make more sense seeing how it's only been twenty five years and not two hundred and ten.

In both games you can build nuclear generators, circuitry and more. If you can do these things, why not plumbing? Running water?

I do admit that I find a perfectly pristine house sitting amidst a blasted wasteland to look quite off but i'm just wondering if it would be possible.

Just how awful morally *was* pre-war America?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 07:33 PM PST

It seems the annexation of Canada, as well as other actions taken by the prewar American government in the Fallout universe, were nothing short it openly empirical. Ignoring potential parallels to the real world USA, are there other things that they did in Fallout lore that make them awful? I'm sure China weren't heroes either, but there seems to be a very cynical portrait painted of American fallout history in the in-game depictions of the lore.

America seems like an exaggerated version of what it is today IRL. Extremely materialistically wealthy, and an open empire - conquering allied nations for more power. The more I play Fallout, the more prewar America seems to have had it coming. Plus, the Enclave being the direct descendants of them (and being as elitist and evil as they are, it starts to make more sense.)

    What else am I missing?

In Fallout tactics, The Warrior turned the warhead on in front of the Vault 0 entrance and had to go inside a small bunker quickly to avoid radiation. Meanwhile The Courier used a laser detonator to destroy warheads on his/her ways and didn’t even need to do anything to avoid damage.

How do you think this worked? It is some logic or the warheads aren't the same?
