Why, without player intervention, the entire Mojave is ruined. Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:46 AM PST Piggybacking from this great post, I always thought that it was quite strange how the sole intervention of one person can depend on the Mojave either being an independent nation-state, or an ecological hell-hole. First of all, as mentioned in the post I linked, which you should absolutely read, without the Courier, Caesar's Legion will take Hoover Dam, ensuring their dominance over the Mojave. While holding onto it is a different issue, Caesar, or Lanius's administration is likely to impose a brutal, and unflinching reign over the citizens of the Mojave. We've seen in Nipton, and the legion bases how carelessly non-legionaries, women and children are treated, with slavery, torture, rape, abuse and brutal execution becoming everyday occurances. Even if the Legion falls, remnants will still remain, and the practises they had will still persist, with them, or without. Secondly, the Mojave itself is a very unsustainable place. The NCR Sharecroppers are barely able to grow food, due to a hot, arid climate and an ailing infrastructure. There's few settlements in the Mojave, and the only successful ones are New Vegas and Nellis, which sit on mountains of stockpiled, pre-war resources. Three, Tunnelers. Ulysses's comment about them is particularly chilling.
Due to their communal nature, hunting in packs, as well as their mode of transport, wherein they create tunnels all across the land, forming nests from which they can easily emerge, The Tunnelers prove themselves to be fierce, hard to kill predators. In gameplay terms, Tunnelers are horrifyingly powerful. They can take down Deathclaws with ease, killing them in a matter of seconds. Quarry Junction would be torn open by them with zero difficulty, so just imagine how the inhabitants of the Mojave would fare against them. Four, Elijah's plans with The Cloud turn the situation with the Mojave even grimmer. This isn't a guarantee to happen, as without the Courier, Elijah's chances of opening up the Madre decrease. However, he still the other 3 captives, Christina, Dean and Dog/God under his command to do his bidding. Christina has endured years under the Circle of Steel, becoming a hardy survivalist, with Dean having lived in the Madre ever since the Great War. And as for Dog/God, their fierce strength gives them the power to tear through hordes of Ghost People. Elijah can easily accomplish what he set out to do with the three of them, meaning that The Cloud could be released over the Mojave. With The Cloud added to the situation, the suffering of everyone increases tenfold, with a permanent atmospheric toxin covering the entire land, ruining any growth of plants, food, tainting water supplies as well. Oh, and of course, Tunnellers are immune, since they only briefly pop up into the land to hunt. With all these factors combined, the Mojave will slowly but surely turn into an inhospitable wasteland within a wasteland, having suffered a second apocalypse. Hoover Dam becomes something akin to the Sierra Madre's Gold, an alluring promise of power, hidden away with a gigantic, state-wide deathtrap. The Legion and NCR will cut their losses, retreating back to the East and West, with the Great Khans most likely retreating to Idaho, as they do in the Legion Allied, NCR Victory ending. The Brotherhood might see this as a great oppurtunity to pick the bones of the Mojave for tech, given that all the population will quickly die off, with the Brotherhood's technology more than enough to fight the Tunnerlers. However, in time, with their continued isolation, they'll surely die as well. The raiders will descend upon the vulnerable population, multiplying and scattering over the wastes, the only people to gain something out of this. Better get delivering that chip, Courier. Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:05 PM PST Let me just start with this: I wish to give credit to the OG Post and the subsequent post that inspired me to write this. First, I'd just like to start with this: the NCR are by far the best choice. Although their government is strife with corruption and greed, and laden with enough red tape to repair the shithole that FO76 has become, they are at the very least based upon egalitarian values, even if they are not always upheld, and do indeed have some honourable individuals among their ranks. They still wouldn't be able to survive the Second Apocalypse well, but they're better than nothing. The Legion would not be able to provide even a fraction of the stability the NCR would provide, even if both would ultimately lead to the downfall and eventual collapse of any civilisation in the Mojave. Ideally, both would be pushed out of New Vegas and various other key locations 0 (because I'm too lazy to go back and change all the later numbers by +1). Keep the Brotherhood alive, however, as they could be important and very tough to take out at relatively little benefit (I strongly suggest you read the footnotes as they come if you don't know the terminology already). The two main issues: food and Dust 1. Food is an issue that plagues any desert society. Since the numbers of people present are simply far too great to be supported by hunting and gathering, the only alternative is agriculture. However, the soil and climate in the Mojave aren't exactly conducive to plant growth, as witnessed with the NCR Sharecroppers. Two solutions I came up with: Hydroponics and Aquaponics 2. Aquaponics would invariably be better as it also provides a much more sustainable protein source, but hydroponics + traditional animal husbandry would suffice in a pinch. Being grown in an inside environment, both would overcome the issue of poor soil quality and an arid climate. Ofc, the NCR would be so busy squeezing every last cap out of New Vegas that any serious efforts into more sustainable food production are likely to only be carried out by charitable groups like the Followers, who are far and few between and have very little resources to their names. Next, with Dust, we get into the issue of the eventual Second Apocalypse which is poised to tear the Mojave a new one. The Tunnelers butt-fuck just about every living creature, including Deathclaws, in a certain kill zone and most factions don't really have the means to stop them. The NCR might be able to, but as mentioned, they are too strung up in bureaucracy and greed to coordinate the resources necessary to effectively protect New Vegas and the people of Freeside, even 10 years on from the events of FNV. The Cloud also provides a very unique challenge: it can and will kill any people that are exposed to it for too long, which is partially where the Brotherhood come in. They will invariably be essential in maintaining topside infrastructure, such as the Dam, after all hell breaks loose due to their technological expertise and access to rad-resistant power armour. Combined with your newly-acquisitioned House robots, hopefully upgraded with the Platinum Chip, they will be able to assist in the continued survival of your civilization. The tradeoff would be that you would have to ensure that all research being conducted would not be for militaristic purposes, at the very least not world-ending stuff, but if you're drawing a lot of brain power from the Followers, that shouldn't be a huge issue anyway, especially if it's a "do this or die" scenario. Ofc, now you're probably wondering: how in the hell do we achieve all that? Well, as I mentioned, you will have the House robots at your disposal after following Yes Man's quest line, which would provide a significant advantage. Furthermore, proclaim yourself to be founding a true democracy, and you could get Freeside on your side, locals and squatters alike. Get the King on your side as well, and you may yet have a serious chance at subduing the tribes of New Vegas. Next, get the Followers involved. The sooner you can get them researching, the better. This, logically, is where the key locations mentioned in footnote 0 come in. Helios One and Hoover dam would provide power, and you could divert water from Hoover Dam to be used in your agriculture as is already being done by New Vegas. Places like the Repconn Test Site and Headquarters would provide treasure troves for scavenging parts and blueprints for the ambitious projects you have ahead of you, and if you can gather that same Freeside militia in addition to your Securitrons, you have a realistic chance of seizing them from an NCR which has just barely won the Second Battle of Hoover Dam after various logistical and tactical blunders on their part. McCarran, in fact, would also be a prime target (just looking on the wiki, there's a huge number of random scrap pieces available to scavenge there). If you could convince the Crimson Caravan to also trade with you, then you would have a good source of caps and manufactured goods the New Vegas itself does not produce. Subsidize the Gun Runners, and you yet again have another advantage. Hell, even if you don't, they'll still offer huge advantages. The Brotherhood honestly pose the greatest challenge. Realistically, they're your best bet at dealing with the Tunnelers and The Cloud, but they would stifle development greatly. Namely, they'd likely demand that the Clinic stop offering cybernetic implants and the dismantling of the Gun Runners. Since they're on the run from the Second Apocalypse as well, there's some chance at negotiation, especially since Elder McNamara has proven himself to be somewhat diplomatic, assuming he doesn't get replaced. They'd ideally maintain topside infrastructure, and you could use Securitrons and unemployed Freesiders/former NCR citizens in expanding the Vault found in New Vegas to be able to more comfortably house the inhabitants of the city during the Cloud event. Anyway, I've spent a whole-ass hour writing this thing and I have school tomorrow and I should probably really get to bed. Thank you to those who took the time to read this! :D 3 0 Places like Hoover Dam, Helios One, the Repconn Test Site, etc. will all be crucial to the development of any state hoping to achieve long-term stability. 1 A mod set I think 10 years after the events of FNV that's a worst case scenario. The Tunnelers have arisen with their terrifying pack hunting, and The Cloud has all but strangled the life out of most open-air inhabitants of the wastes. Afaik, it's based upon the "canon" ending of FNV in which the Courier sides with Mr. House or Yes man, and the NCR barely defeats the Legion in the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. 2 Hydroponics is growing plants loose in water and not in dirt. Aquaponics is the same thing, but you introduce fish to the system, making it more self-sufficient. This also provides the people with both nutrients from the plants, and protein from the fish. The fish provide phosphate, CO2, and nitrogen to the plants, and the plants provide O2 and bacteria to convert ammonia, for anybody that's interested. Look it up, it's pretty interesting stuff. 3 You're the best! <3 Btw mods, if this post violates any of the rules, don't feel bad about taking it down. I knew coming in that this post might get taken down because it is speculation. [link] [comments] |
What are the different colors of the BOS Uniform for? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:13 PM PST I'm assuming the armor is given in tiers, but I don't know for sure. Orange - I would assume originally that this is made for initiates, but Knight Rhys has this equipped 24/7, so unless he hasn't gotten it yet, Orange would be for Knights. But, Paladin Danse is also equipped with an Orange BOS uniform. So my guess for the Orange uniform at this point is that it is a jumpsuit to wear power armor over made for Knights and Paladins. Olive - This is a toughy, it might go to Paladins, but Danse wears orange. So this might just go specifically to sentinels which is unlikely since it is just one rank, but still possible. Dark Grey/Black - Obviously this is made for senior officers: Lancer captains, Elders, maybe even proctors. This one gave me the whole rank theory, but I still think the Olive uniform needs a better placement. Maybe one is for power armor usage and one is for combat armor usage, but I still don't know. Let me know what you think! [link] [comments] |
