Posted: 08 Jul 2021 06:24 AM PDT I think it's pretty much no mystery at this point that Mr. House is heavily, almost Cease and Desist levels similar to Andrew Ryan, who himself is based upon the character John Galt from Ayn Rand's magnum opus "Atlas Shrugged". However, while Andrew Ryan, and, consequently the entirety of the first Bioshock is a well thought out critique of the Randian philosophy and ideas, presenting how these ideas will eventually lead to a collapse, Mr. House, to me at least, represents the perfected ideal of the Randian Philosophy. He is Andrew Ryan without the corruption, he's Andrew Ryan without the overbearing power trip, he is Andrew Ryan without the carelessness. He is...He is John Galt in everything but name. Everything Ayn Rand imagined to be the perfect specimen of an individual, the perfect example of a producer and not a looter or a parasite, House exemplifies that and then some. Andrew Ryan is a critique, a cautionary tale of what would realistically happen when a flawed man tries to create a flawless society House is Ryan with but with a brain. He may not fully line up with the Randian philosophy (His "maintaining order, get in my way and i'll squish you like a bug" is not very Randian) but he is that objectivist "It's not about who's gonna let me, it's who's gonna stop me" philosophy to the tea [link] [comments]

Why is the LAER almost never declared the best energy weapon? Posted: 08 Jul 2021 04:04 AM PDT So, i am doing an energyweapon character right now and i am trying to figure out what the ideal endgame build is. There are lots and lots of lists of best energy weapons, but to me, the obvious answer seems to be to use a fully upgraded LAER. Nothing else in the game seems to even come vaguely close in terms of pure damage output. So why are other weapons, like, say the Q-35 matter modulator often ranked over it? What am i missing here? Why do people say the NCR are the "good guys" in the game? Posted: 07 Jul 2021 12:30 PM PDT Just to start, I am NOT a fanboy of any of the other factions. I just don't understand why a lot of fans of the game act like the NCR are some kind of bastion of democracy and progress. The NCR are, as shown in quests like Pheeble Will and dialogue with Caesar, not even a real democracy. They're basically a capitalist oligarchy. Plus, they don't really care about their citizens at all. They just use them for tax revenue. Their main general of the Mojave campaign just throws bodies at their problems, mostly young conscripts or volunteers desperate for caps. They're unashamed in fucking over anyone who doesn't let them steamroll, and a lot of NCR citizens complain about it. They can't even accomplish anything without the courier's help. The best accomplishments we see in New Vegas are them taking over HELIOS, with human wave tactics, and defending the Dam, which was orchestrated by Hanlon, who got totally shit on after the battle. Plus, for the first half of the game, they waste their strongest soldiers in Baja, doing some waste of time (as we learn from Hanlon). At the state they're in during the events of NV, their largest military base with the help of their best snipers can't even kill 3 drug-addled persons of interest. A braindead dog breeder, an unwashed chef with just a flamethrower, and some skinny psycho with a club are canonically stronger than hundreds of NCR conscripts. They'll do the same awful shit Caesar does, just with less hatred and more callous disregard. They'll kill tribals all the same, they'll massacre civilians, they'll ally with evil people for personal gain (like the Van Graffs and the Crimson Caravan Company), they'll genocide "undesirables" like the Super Mutants in Jacobstown, they even order the political assassination of Mr. House just like Caesar. All evidence points to the NCR being a military dictatorship. They'll even systematically tear down the Kings and Freeside - who are one of the most mutualistic, peacekeeping factions in the Mojave - just because they resist foreign occupation. At the risk of sounding like a "both sides are evil" centrist, it's absurd that people on this sub will say the NCR are a competent liberal democracy that keeps peace and freedom. Just because they hold back the evil that is the Legion doesn't mean they're good. They only do it to maintain power over the Mojave, not out of some righteous crusade. TL;DR: The Republic are, in canon, a lot closer to real world post-USSR Russia than they are to EU-style liberal democracies. Why do NV players just ignore this? [link] [comments]

Should I use any mods that improve the game while keeping the vanilla feel? Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:15 AM PDT So I'm planning on starting my second run of fallout new Vegas but this time I have all of the DLCs. Are there any necessary mods that improve the game a bit? I want to keep the vanilla feel of the game and i don't want it to be heavily modded. [link] [comments]

Single shot gun, forever reloading. Posted: 08 Jul 2021 03:32 AM PDT Specifically my 12 ga weapons, single shot. Sometimes the 20ga. It seems like once it bugs out, I can't swap ammo and reloading just goes on forever. I'm thinking it's an animation I'm using but I can't point it down. What animation sets do ya'll use? Has anyone had a similar issue? Thanks in advance for answers, consideration, or arbitrary downvotes. [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 12:35 AM PDT I was planning on getting Dead money for the steam version of New Vegas but after reading the steam reviews a lot of people seem to have really bad bugs specifically with this dlc e.g crashing and file corruption that causes it to difficult to complete the dlc. Does anyone know if this is still a problem? [link] [comments]

FNV Ru messed up my account, how can I play FNV now? Posted: 08 Jul 2021 06:04 AM PDT A while back, my friend got me a steam key for fnv, but it was the russian version. I couldn't buy any dlc so when i saw FNV ultimate edition was on sale, i removed the ru version and bought it. Whenever I try to launch it, it says it is unavailable in my region, even though I bought it in the UK. I already google'd this and all the answers were contact steam support, but all the steam support for FNV redirects you to bethesda because "its not their game". I can't get a refund either because its been over 2 weeks. Anyone got suggestions? [link] [comments] |
