I wish we could've used the Far Harbor boat more often. Posted: 20 Jun 2021 02:38 PM PDT I just managed to complete Far Harbor on a vanilla survival playthrough and my god it was a drag without the fast travel system, trying to go back an forth all over the island really got old trying to do all the quests. The commonwealth has Vertibird and teleportation transport whereas Far Harbor has nothing to ease the travel time. But this got me thinking, why wasn't the automated boat used more often? It's such a cool and unique way to transport to and from the commonwealth. Maybe they could've used it to go to certain locations around the island like only the outer areas of the island like the docks or settlements. We already use it to do the red death quest so why not use it again around the island. [link] [comments] |

Theory: The Crashed Vertibird found in the Mojave was originally on its way to Raven Rock Posted: 20 Jun 2021 07:22 PM PDT This Vertibird to be precise. This was one of many Vertibirds on its way to the East after the destruction of Control Station ENCLAVE was destroyed. It was carrying a Tesla-Beaton Prototype on board, a weapon that would've been improved upon and would've helped them win the war against the Brotherhood of Steel in the Capital Wasteland. Fortunately, the Vertibird suffered some kind of Malfunction and crashed. The Pilots on board may have survived, but were too injured to move and no one was coming for them. The robots would protect the site for many years until the Courier happened upon the site. [link] [comments] |
Roaming around any fallout game with the in game radio is fantastic Posted: 20 Jun 2021 08:25 PM PDT There's something oddly immersing and calming about clearing a building of raiders or ghouls while the Ink Spots is blaring in your ears. Just going around the wasteland bumping some tunes is a whole experience in itself n if you haven't tuned into the radio, you're missing out [link] [comments] |
What would your vault's experiment be? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 02:19 PM PDT |
Institute attack on the Castle. Posted: 20 Jun 2021 03:04 PM PDT Does anyone know why the institute went so hard on the minute men? They send one courser with you to clear what is essentially a small town of raiders but to clear a castle filled with a bunch of ragtag commoners they send what seems like all of their gen 1s, 2s and like a 100 coursers. I understand it's supposed to be a challenge for the players, but it doesn't make much sense from a lore perspective. The whole attack doesn't make much sense to be honest. One could argue that they attacked them to stop the minute men from unifying the commonwealth but I can't really see why they would care. Nobody could get inside the institute if it wasn't for the pipeline. No matter how I think about it, the institute shouldn't have attacked that castle with that much force. [link] [comments] |
My first full experience with the Fallout games: Fallout 3 Posted: 20 Jun 2021 06:05 AM PDT So, well I was always really interested in the Fallout lore and world, but never got a got a chance to finish them completely, so I thought of finally finishing all the games in the series in one go, and not knowing a proper play order, I decided to start with Fallout 3, the entry point for a lot of the series's fans(as far as I know) and as I wanted to share my experience with this great community, here's my rev iew(or whatever you wanna call it) of Fallout 3. MINOR SPOILERS FOR FALLOUT 3 IF YOU HAVENT PLAYED IT YET THE PROS: 1)THE ATMOSPHERE- I love how atmosphere-heavy this game is, I love the green filter actually(unlike most ppl) it really gives me a feel that I am roaming an irradiated wasteland and just gives a sense of sorrow and desolatio with the yellow-green filter. The wastelanders and their equipment just look so worn out and tired(except moira ofc), really just shows how much they struggle to survive in the wasteland, and the ruins of Washington D.C. while I dont know how accurate they are,(I have never been to D.C. nor do I live in the USA) just are well done in my opinion, it really helps in showcasing how the nuclear annilation has effected the metropolis of DC, its so busy(with the large number buildings) yet giving a sense of emptyiness, unlike fallout 4(which I have played, somewhat) and the interiors almost feel like they belong to a survival horror game. 2)THE V.A.T.S. SYSTEM- Now this can differ from person to person, as everyone has their own opinion, the VATS system has been wonderfully designed and combines the best of fps and turn based combat, and really giving a taste of both the gameplay styles without coming off as unbalanced, some might argue that it breaks the flow of combat, but I believe it gives the players some time to catch their breath, when way too much is goin on in the screen(especially against those annoying Sentry bots, raining missles upon me), and gives more meaning to certain stats. 3)THE SIDE QUESTS- In my opinion, the side quests, are very well done in the game, some can be entertaining, and some some can be meaningful, although some are just fetch quests, however, these side quests are really the highlight on the story department of the game. Some of my personal favourite were- i)The Oasis- the absolute best of the game in my opinion, just such an incredibly well done quest, which made me wonder about what about what I should really do and wether Harold really deserves his death, both as a human being and as a wastelander, the stakes were well defined and huge, was interesting, had a difficult choice which kept the player thinking about what he/she should do. ii)The Superhuman Gambit- I found this quite interesting and memorable, it isnt anything very deep, but I like superheroes and the quest is quite fun, plus both the AntAgonizer and the Mechanists have great designs so that helps:) but yeah the Mechanist>> iii)The Replicated Man- A very interesting and well done quest as it doesnt hold your hand and spoon feed you like most others in the game, and I just like the themes of moving on,and independence, and it also gave me a difficult choice(as it was quite early in the game), and it took me to places which I prolly would have never even thought of visting(specifically the sunken part of Rivet City). THE MEH(adjective uninspiring; unexceptional.)- 1)THE WORLD- Although the world has great atmosphere and I think the towns though very small, really give a sense of despair and fit into the wasteland, unlike Skyrim where large provinces felt smaller than villages, like a town from Pokemon, but in Fallout they fit right up the wasteland alley, and really just help show how little of the population has survived, and thus, megaton and Rivet City really feel exceptional and significant, they feel like the silver lining in the dark cloud of the wasteland because they are the ones who survived and who will rebuild the wasteland, the vaults are really well done and feel like places which I would find in Alien:Isolation or Metro, they give a sense of horror, but not by jumpscares but by the dark lore and eeriness of the indiviual vaults, and looking back at vault 101, it really felt like the safest place in the wasteland. That beng said the world design is also bad, in how to get the good quests, you have to go out of your way to go to find those places where you get them, you are not guided to them via the main quest, but have to find them on your very own, its bad game design, WHICH IS A BIG NEGATIVE, because in order to experience a good chunk of the good stuff, you have to go out of your way to find it. 2)THE CHARACTERS- Except for some good characters, most just didn't feel fleshed out enough, and I just couldn't sympathise with a lot of them even though the game wanted me to do so. I just didnt find them interesting, but yeah there are a few good characters. 3)THE DLCS- Now this would have been in the PROS category if it wasnt for 2 of the DLCs, the DLCs are very inconsistent- they can be very good and leave you wanting more, or they can be very bad and leave a bad taste in your mouth. Just in case yall wanted to know, heres how I rank em. i)Point Lookout- Really well designed world, simplistic yet well done, loved every bit of it. Its the regular atmosphere but dialed up to 11, it has a good fitting set of enemy types, and the entire quest is very good, especially the beginning with the tribals, with the only part which I didnt like being the shootout in the mansion. ii)The Pitt- Well done world, it has a darker atmosphere than D.C, and I like the over all quest quite a bit even more so than Point Lookout but not by much, as the choices here arent fleshed out as well, and the choices although having massive implicationsare very vague in my opinion. The weapons introduced are good and the enemy types are great and I really like the quest structure especially late game as it was the last DLC I played. iii)Broken Steel- the changed ending doesnt really impress me, I feel like it makes the ending worse for the Lone Wanderer but yeah makes it way more sensible for the rest especially Fawkes(I believe the original ending doesnt allow you to send him into the reactor, I might be wrong, the main quest of the DLC is fine and it adds creatures and armors which I really like tho:) iii)Mothership Zeta-Its fine, the asthetic is okay, I like the whole generic aliens design really suits fallout, the guns are very fun to use, and the companions are good, particularly Elliot(the Pre-War soldier),other than its pretty linear(which is bad in a fallout game) and the gameplay gets reptitive. iv)Operation Anchorage-Holy shit was this bad, this DLC is a burning pile of trash and regret I playing it first, the only thing good about this bullshit, is the T-51,the first few minute with the Outcasts, the story behind the simulation, and its title, everything else, literally everything else of the DLC sucks ass, it gets so reptitive and tedious to play that I had to force myself to finish it, this shit was ass man, I would play full price for the GOTY edition even if this wasnt there, this shit is garbage, and ppl who havent played it yet, pls dont,it sucks. THE CONS- 1)THE MAIN QUEST- The main quests starts strong and is pretty good for the first half but begins to fall apart as the enclave arrives, there is barely any player freedom in the main quest, and the game make you believe in an illusion even though there is nothing like that, I was very disappointed in the enclave as they were just like generic good guys and their motives weren't even fleshed out, I could never understand or sympathise with them properly cause their motives werent clear, both the main antagonists were just generic bad guys, especially Autumn, at least Eden was charismatic and I loved him on Enclave radio even more so than Three Dog, the character interactions arent that great, and the game calls me a "coward" for doing the smartest i.e sending Fawkes into the reactor which he did like half through the game.I have the same problems with the Brotherhood, in a game like Fallout no one should be good or bad, and even if you wanna do that, execute it properly, the Brotherhood just like the Enclave as in they are just generic good guys, but unlike the Enclave at least their motives are fleshed out a bit, I also dont like how I cant join the Enclave and I am just forced to be a part of the brotherhood wether I like it or not, that is not how open world RPG games should work, you should give players freedom to do what they want:( So well guys that was that hahah, I did the mod the game a lot as well, so that was fun and overall despite some of its shortcomings, I still really enjoyed Fallout 3. I expect the next games to be better, fingers crossed:), and yeah dont forget to use Tale of Two Wastelands mod if you wanna play this on windows 10 as it fixes a lot of issues and adds a few nice features from FNV, anyways thats it and I will see you guys next time, once I finish FALLOUT 1. See ya!!! [link] [comments] |

Anyone else think Las Vegas was actually called New Vegas as kid? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 10:21 PM PDT When I played fallout New Vegas in 2011 when I was 9, I thought Las Vegas was legitimately called New Vegas in real life. And I got confused when people called it Las Vegas because I didn't know if it was New Vegas or Las Vegas. I can't be the only kid who thought that though right? [link] [comments] |

Accidentally locked myself out of Fallout 1 Posted: 20 Jun 2021 06:43 PM PDT I've been playing Fallout 1 for about 3 hours now, noticed the menus were way too small. While messing with the resolution settings to try and get the best of both FOV and menu size, I tried to enter a custom resolution and crashed the game. I can't get back into the game now, as it tells me my computer can't load the game in my set resolution. Uninstalling and reinstalling the game didn't work, can't find any answers on the internet. Please help! [link] [comments] |
Any movies similar to Fallout lore? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 11:01 AM PDT I'm looking for movies which have a similar narrative to stories you find in different vaults. This might not be a perfect example, but Circle (2015) is a movie that I can see being used in some random vault in Fallout. Does anyone have any better ideas? I guess one of the main themes can be analyzing human behaviour. Anyone got any other suggestions? EDIT: I mean movies similar to Vault-Tec lore, and the experiments they used. [link] [comments] |

Ranking The Fallout Games (Main Series + Spin Off) Posted: 21 Jun 2021 04:20 AM PDT Bare in mind, this is an opinion, but I will try to use forms of objective reasoning.
Bland game which relies on comedy too much, it's main story is dull and boring and it's antagonist is bland and having him as the central point of the game completely ruins it, just because of how badly written his character is. The graphics are also awful aswell, aswell as it being turn based combat. The Enclave are cool though.
Once again, an extremely bland game. The time limit is awful, and completely ruins the fun of Fallout games, it is a slight improvement to Fallout 2 but it is still shallow in many areas. The antagonist of the game has lots of plot holes, and there aren't near enough sideable factions. Overall, lot's of wasted potential.
Better than the previous games in terms of graphics and in expansions, but it doesn't have much else going for it. It's very laggy, buggy, rushed, and didn't have an ounce of thought put into the mechanics and plot. There was absolutely no central plot and it made the game feel too "choicey" which isn't what the best Fallout games are like, the philosophy was also very confusing and I didn't like it.
Moving onto the top 3 now, Fallout 3 was great, it's antagonist was amazing, its graphics were great, the main story was gripping and not boring at all, and the weapon mechanics were superior to Fallout NV (lots of guns which is important) it truly had me on the edge of my seat the entire playthrough, an amazing addition to the series.
Now we are moving onto the best games, Fallout 4, quite possibly the greatest antagonist who perfectly embodies all of his beliefs and explains them perfectly, the idea of having no choice is also thematically fitting as ones choices are limited in the wasteland, also, the brotherhood annihilating the institute is very accurate, as they wanted to preserve all advanced tech, but didn't want grimy synth fingerprits over it, hence the loss of the wastelands most advanced technology.
Truly amazing, nothing compares. Multiplayer fits the game amazingly and there is so much to do, the map is also amazing, the team strives to improve the player experience and not to gain profit, and the game is completely bug free. [link] [comments] |

How do I get into the fort while being vilified by the Legion? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 11:08 PM PDT (First time playing, so don't expect me to know everything about New Vegas) I'm a little stuck and need some help. So I need to get into the fort to get the Platinum chip & whatever the secret weapon is for Yes Man. The only problem is that I am vilified by the Legion and from what I've heard the fort is their HQ. I need help on how I can get in. I would love to carve my way through the legion, but I can barely take on 4 assassins, I also tried my luck on taking Cottonwood cove but that yielded negative results. I'm pretty stuck since it's the last thing I need to to for Yes Man. Any tips on how I can get in? Edit: I just cleared Cottonwood Cove but it cost me all of my .50MG ammo + a stealth boy. At least I'm one step closer [link] [comments] |
Do basic mentats have any functionality in FO4? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 07:19 PM PDT So I'm in like my 3rd full play through, about 347 hours on the 4th game. I love playing a strength/Intelligence build or a Luck based character, so mentats were generally my favorite chem in 3 and nv for hacking and such. I tried a brain+brawn build my first time through and mentats proved to be virtually useless unless I made them grape. They were perfect for sniping (adding perception and all) but I rarely mess with snipers over plasma weapons. So question one I guess would be so they help with anything other than sniping and getting grape mentats? And 2nd, do mentats help level up at all? Given that intelligence boosts xp gain, would popping mentats before killing a big boss or finishing a major quest boost the xp I get? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Jun 2021 02:38 AM PDT Comparing the darker twists and turns of the older generation of turn based and even Fallout 3/NV, what do you all think of the franchises' ability to continue in this vein? I know I will get flack for this, but I didn't think Fallout 4 was really comparable in terma of the quality of the writing, and in terms of grittyness and how dark it was, it came across to me a lot more child-oriented. Fallout 76 speaks for itself. So, do you think the next Fallout will remain true to its darker core, or has Fallout 4 set a precedent? [link] [comments] |
Who buys the finest weapons and armor in New Vegas? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 12:09 PM PDT Ok, so I just so happened to stumble upon a bunch of Bortherhood of Steel armor and laser weapons that I totally found in the waste and the soldiers were totally dead when I got there. Now I want to sell all of it and need help finding a good vendor who would buy hot BoS items. I tried Gibson but she is tight on caps at the moment. Where do I go to sell all of my weapons and armor? And don't say the armorer in the BoS base. I'm in hot water with the BoS, it's complicated to explain, you wouldn't understand. [link] [comments] |
