HAM radio scream in Fallout 3 inside Super Duper Mart

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 07:20 PM PDT

So when I was playing F3 on my 360 around 2012, I was replaying the game since i loved it so much. I would always turn the HAM radios on and off to see if anything happened. I was on the quest Moira gives you for her Wasteland Survival Guide. When I finished clearing out the raiders in the mart and looting, and got to the kitchen, where the food is, there is a HAM radio there. I turned it on, then off, then on again and I heard a most bloodcurdling scream saying "HELP!" and then nothing. I turned it off then on again and it never came back. I did the same to every radio I found, even in New Vegas to replicate this. Even googling it, no one else has posted about it. It's been years obviously but i still remember that shrieking yell for help. It sounded so real and disturbing and I definitely wasn't dreaming it. I didn't think much of it at the time besides "cool easter egg" but no one else seems to have experienced this.

Has anyone else heard this scream in Fallout 3? I saw another user post about a scream near Craterside Supply but thats it. After all these years, no one has heard this hidden scream.

Its really sad to go from level 20 to 57 realizing you never changed out your weapon once

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 05:21 PM PDT

I decided to do an Unarmed Survival playthrough to challenge myself. There are so few Unarmed weapons, of course, that when I grabbed the Furious Power Fist from Swan, I should have realized that unless I rolled nat 20s 6 times in a row, I would never be using anything other than it. And yes, as I finish up Nuka World and prepare to go to Far Harbor, I have never found anything better. I have a deathclaw Gauntlet, but fully upgraded it is literally 10 damage better, with no legendary effect. And since of the 5 unarmed weapons only 2 are actually viable to use, it is exceptionally likely I could play for another 2 years and never find a replacement . I've gotten a couple legendary knuckles or boxing gloves, but no matter the legendary effect, it just didnt beat Furious Power Fist, unlike say finding a legendary hunting Rifle that is useful over a legendary combat rifle or a legendary 10mm that is useful over a .44 Revolver

Fallout 4, in my opinion, has the best Overworld out of all the Fallout games

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 07:24 AM PDT

Fallout 4 is by far my most replayed Fallout game even though i hold Fallout 3 and New Vegas way up above it. And i've always wondered why. Why do i keep coming back to 4 every other week or so while i come back to 3 and New Vegas every month or so? And that's because, simply, the Overworld, or in this case the main map is, in my opinion, absolutely brilliant. It's one of the best overwolrds in any game ever in my opinion. Bethesda took the appealing exploration elements which made Fallout 3 so great and amplified it to a maximum. Every location placement, every nook and cranny is so deliberately designed to guide you to interesting places. It's one of the things Bethesda excells at over other developers, making and actual interesting world that you're willing to explore, even if most of the locations are just very similar looking dungeons (Skyrim).

Another thing, and this is a major one, is the randomness of the overworld. This is i think the one thing that New Vegas, at least in my opinion, in inferior at compared to 4 and 3. In New Vegas, the enemy encounters are so beyond scripted that it sometimes kinda ruins the immersion of the world. Like if you play the game long enough and often enough you will pretty much know where every enemy is. You know that from the Mojave Outpost to Nipton it's gonna be ants and scorpions, you know that you will meet that same bandit enounter at the gas station on the road to New Vegas, you know where the Cazadors and Deathclaws are etc. In Fallout 4 that's not the case. 4 followed up from 3's randomness and made it even more unexpected. Thanks to this, no two playthroughs will ever be the same and, most importantly, you get to experience the unexpected joy of a Yao Guai bull rushing a bunch of protectrons out of nowhere, or a bunch of Gunners stumbling into a Super Mutant encampment or a Brotherhood Vertibird getting downed by a bunch of Super Mutants etc. It's just the absolute anarchaic chaos that i love about Bethesda's Fallouts a lot more than Obsidian's precise encounters

I found more alien power cells that aren't on the fallout 3 wiki

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 10:17 PM PDT

In a small canyon just south of where you begin "the pitt" dlc, there is roughly 6 of them, I couldn't find anything on the wiki mentioning them, so I beleive I have found more in base game!

    Do hostile factions attack settlements?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 04:21 AM PDT

It would be epic to set up some missile defenses and watch them shoot down VertiBirds…. I know they already spawn by the northwestern settlements and the castle so I'll probably get enough of that, but do they ever directly attack like raiders?

A New Vegas Remaster isn't what Fallout needs

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 12:54 AM PDT

Although it would be Great to have a remastered Vegas it would be better to make a new game in a new setting something completely different. Personally I would like a game set in Alaska, Hawaii and if they could get around all the bullshit laws a game set in china.

I’ve loosely played the Fallout series- Finished only 3 and NV once each in the past 6 years; Just started Fallout 4 and I can safely say Fallout is a real godamn gem of a fictional universe and game. I’m really attached to the series now. I don’t think I ever experienced anything like it.

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 06:49 AM PDT

The unique post apocalyptic and retrofuturisitic (atom/nuclear punk?) 1950/60s American culture/'World of Tomorrow' style, theme, and setting coupled with unique locations, objects, stories, characters, themes, situations and dialogue and a specifically tailored dark humor that all directly builds off of said unique theme, style, and setting and along with much, much more (feel free to add what you love or think what makes fallout unique) really paves way for an unforgettable and unique world and experience that is Fallout.

How useful is speech in fallout 1?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 11:16 PM PDT

I enjoy the rpg elements in these games and I love talking with people. I hate the combat in 1 so I'm wondering how useful speech is in 1 and to a lesser extent, 2

Why do the people who write new Fallout stories (like Fallout Miami, Fallout Frontier, etc keep bringing the Enclave back?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 10:44 AM PDT

With this in mind, I guess it's no wonder people want the enclave back. Because the Enclave bring new things to the table... and that I believe is a problem. I feel like Fallout is starting to rely too much on the recognizable elements of it's story that brought it to everyones attention. If you don't get what I'm saying, I'll ask this: Why in every single fallout game do you need to be a Vault Dweller (or in NV's case, a person wearing a vault suit in the beginning), why are there so many Vaults in each game when Vault tec were only able to build 122? Why do the brotherhood of steel need to be in every single game? Why does each new game bring some new excuse for Super Mutants to be in the area when originally the FEV virus was just in Mariposa?

However, they are supposed to be a dead (or insignificant) faction at this point. They were scattered and chased out of New California, and in Fallout 3 the Brotherhood of Steel reduced their numbers to the point where it's questionable if they can even reproduce without bringing in "muties".

Yet for some reason everyone wants to see them return. There is the argument that the united states government was vast and widespread, but in Fallout 2 they straight up tell you that they tried contacting other government bases to no avail. They beleive they are literally the last remnants of the United States government.

I'd guess another reason seems to be a rather annoying unwritten rule in Fallout:

    1. Groups that have not been touched by nuclear war like the Enclave and the Institute are the only groups that can create new technology, but they must be the villians to ensure the fallout universe will not progress very much
    2. The Brotherhood of steel has to be in every single videogame for brand recognition, but they cannot create new technology, they must always have the best of the old world, and never anything new. (seriously, why aren't they wearing Enclave armor in 4, but instead wearing a set of armor that is almost as canonically hard to find?)
    3. Post apocalyptic groups like the NCR can try new things and occasionally invent technology off screen, but somehow despite their vast pooled resources in comparison to pre-apoc groups they can't even fully power a dam or figure out how to wear power armor.

With this in mind, I guess it's no wonder people want the enclave back. Because the Enclave bring new things to the table... and that I beleive is a problem.

Instead of using the same old groups, why can't we write new factions capable of different things and make new cool mutants? Yeah, I can understand it in some cases, because the New Vegas left a lot to be written about the future of the NCR and the Legion, but why the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave? The brotherhood has one simple ideology: horde technology, and the Enclave is no more.

If you were the director for the next Fallout game, What would you make?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 03:00 PM PDT

I am just curious what sort of stuff the fans would make.

Like, What location will it take place? What will the story be about? What theme? What will the DLCs be about?

Personally, I would really like to see a game take place in New York, I just really want to see how a giant city such as NY will look like after an apocalypse (especially since New York was probably one of the places hit directly). It's also located right next to Canada's capital so it'd be a great location for a DLC. The idea of exploring a completely ruined relic of a former utopia just seems so appealing to me.

Disappointed with the lack of difference between the playlists of Galaxy News Radio and Diamond City Radio

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 05:05 AM PDT

My first Fallout game was 4. I've never played any other one yet, but I hear great things about Three Dog and GNR - so I checked out a long YouTube playlist of all the songs from GNR...

Most of which I've already heard on DCR :(

Is it just that the studio only had the rights to use certain artists' certain songs, and they retained those rights during the period between the production of 3 and of 4?

Where can I find more material like this, to expand my Fallout immersion after hour 200 of hearing the same hour-and-a-half randomized playlist?

There is a GIANT canyon location in the Mojave I never knew existed.

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 04:03 PM PDT

Crescent Canyon is so big it has two map markers on the map. It is South of the Ivanpah Racetrack. It is really quite an interesting but hidden location that I doubt many people know about. Hell, I have played multiple playthroughs of this game and never knew it existed.

Go out of your way to explore and take your time, you might be pleasantly surprised. This goes for any of the games.

Unique interaction with Harold in Fallout 3

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 08:32 PM PDT

I'm playing through for the first time in a long time and I seem to remember a unique interaction you can have with Harold where it's implied through the visual effects on screen that he was seeding the wasteland. Am I misremembering and if not, how does one go about getting it?

For those who like to get in the headspace of the Sole Survivor, I made an immersive playlist that fits the world of Fallout 4.

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 11:01 AM PDT

After getting frustrated not being able to find a Fallout 4 playlist that sticks to the genre (music that doesn't pull me away from the world) I made my own. You could use this playlist for other Fallout titles I'm sure, but I have only used it with Fallout 4 and designed it with the Sole Survivor in mind. Features 1930s-50s swing and dance, period friendly romance and slow dance, as well as timeless melancholy instrumental. There are no random techno or country or anything contemporary like that. I was careful not to include anything that yanks me away from that headspace.

The idea is the Sole Survivor is dealing with a lot of emotions of grief and waves of sadness from the sudden changes, but stays calm by escaping to fond memories with with their spouse in their past life.

Obviously not everyone is looking for this sort of playlist, I just thought I would share in the case anyone was in the same boat I was looking for a playlist.

    What's your worst "I haven't saved" deaths?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 08:29 PM PDT

Not so bad, but I just lost an hour of talking to people cause my game crashed. The sad thing was I was literally gonna save after I spoke to everybody in camp but I wanted to do a little settlement remodeling and then save... Game crashed. Now I gotta talk to everyone again.

    The multiplayer paradox

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 03:37 AM PDT

I tought i could share this, since it's fallout 76 related. Have you ever noticed that when a game is enjoyed on single player, people wants to play it on multiplayer and vice versa? And this happened with fallout. People enjoyed the single player, and betsheda popped put fallout 76. But when you kills, loot, steal, and do stuff alone you want more players, but when you have more players you want to be alone because everyone does what you do, is really worth it?
