I think that Bethesda was over reliant on common, bottom tier weapons in Fallout 4

    Posted: 23 May 2021 10:53 PM PDT

By bottom tier weapons I mean the pipe guns and institute lasers. Their equivalents in 3, the .32 pistol, chinese pistol, and arguably the hunting rifle, always felt like only a portion of the enemy's arsenal. They'd also use the good weapons on you, even at relatively low levels. But in 4, I feel like something snapped in Bethesda's head, and they decided that weapon modifications somehow justified making these weapons absurdly common.

This is a problem because even at highish levels, it always feels to me like pipe guns are the default, and any other weapons are rare exceptions. Same with the institute lasers. Because they COULD make these weapons in any configuration, they made them common as dirt. And it honestly brought the game down for me, as it basically means that most of the low level content is waiting for all of the fun guns, both the ones I modded in and the ones that are in the base game, to actually be something that I can both shoot and be shot at with. I don't mind low tier guns, but I do mind having only a few low tier guns for a fair amount of time, with the only difference being that this raider carried a full auto pipe rifle, and this one carried a pipe pistol with a scope. They're both the same crappy looking and feeling gun.

Watching my Sister play FO:NV for the first time

    Posted: 23 May 2021 09:18 PM PDT

So far she has sided with Good Springs, got killed by geckos a few times looking for Barton Thorn's girlfriend, and got spooked by Malcolm Holmes after finding her first star bottle cap at Jean's skydiving.

I modded it with NVSE, CASM, EVE, Willow, and a few other quality of life and stability mods. Kept it Vanilla+

Update 1: made it to Primm, is trying to fix E-de, used mentats and a programmer's digest, found the sheriff and his wife, and killed 2 convicts so far. Only reloaded for to stepping on a landmine once, so that's progress. Worth noting that this (along with bioshock simultaneously) is her first time playing an FPS.

I will post updates next time we play

I never got why shields were never an option in Fallout.

    Posted: 24 May 2021 04:01 AM PDT

I mean you got one free hand when using many of the Melee options, and you can't shove a shield or even another knife in it?
Trashcan lids and car doors are everywhere, and if I'm gonna be nuts enough to bring my sword to a gunfight then I might as well go all the way.

The Minutemen and the Railroad should have been able to unite together.

    Posted: 24 May 2021 04:24 AM PDT

I firmly believe an authentic ending to FO4 should have been the unification of these two factions against the others.

The minutemen, while starting on a weak footing for the purposes of this game, have the expertise and desire to act as police and logisticians. Developing settlements, facilitating trade routes, and providing safety and stability across the commonwealth.

The Railroad has the guerilla warfare/spy tactics to punch above their weight in the interests of freeing synths. But seem to lack the overall cohesion, as well as seemingly being largely uninvolved in the operation of settlements and other faculties of daily life.

By sitting down the aforementioned powers and coming to an agreement, the intel and tactics of the railroad can bolster the minutemen's ability to maintain order. As well as provide for more citizens in the form of settled synths.

On the other side, the minutemen and their trade and settlement network can aid the railroad in moving synths safely and giving them somewhere to go. As well as acting as a more traditional military arm.

If this union would happen, railroad agents could sabatouge the BOS and gain precious info to give a better fighting chance for the minutemen forces.

Institute control could be dealt with better by allowing more safe zones for synths to exist in, allowing faster and safer operations by the Railroad.

It just.. makes sense to me.

Fallout 4 is designed for Survival mode.

    Posted: 24 May 2021 12:52 AM PDT

It's all in the title. I've done probably 15-20 runs through the vanilla game on normal mode. So many parts of the game seemed useless or not integral to actual gameplay. That all changes on survival. Strategic exploration, setting up bases, and supply management all become real things on survival difficulty. You are doing the game a disservice if you don't bump it up at least to very hard difficulty. This is also the fault of the developers. Unless you are really trying to build up your character there is no real reason to deck out your settlements on normal difficulty. The lines between safety and danger become a lot more apparent as well on higher difficulty.

I found a pair of "Knuckless" while playing fallout 4

    Posted: 23 May 2021 08:10 PM PDT

I know what you're thinking, "don't you mean knuckles, come back when you graduate middle school", nope, they're knuckless. I have no idea where they came from as I only noticed it after coming back from Concord on a new run, so somewhere in that general vicinity.

If anyone has found them and know whether this item actually has any lore behind it besides a misspell, I'd really like to hear about it. There's no way this was an accident.

Edit: forgot to mention, thanks for the reminder

No mods were installed prior to finding the knuckless.

Fallout: Alaska, Vladivostok SSR expeditionary trooper

    Posted: 23 May 2021 06:48 PM PDT

    https://imgur.com/a/CQnesNd

Obviously not really explicitly lore-friendly, but I love Fallout's retro-futuristic military aesthetic and tried to port it over to the Soviets.

Background: Vladivostok SSR troopers were initially deployed to Alaska in small numbers to protect VSSR fishing interests, due to hostility and competition from locals. However, upon discovering rumors of pre-war oil caches, as well as encountering an extremely hostile Brotherhood of Steel, they have greatly elevated their presence there, establishing permanent military outposts. Troops are ferried across the Bering straight using coal-powered steamships.

    Railroad + Minutemen Ending

    Posted: 24 May 2021 05:04 AM PDT

I'm nearing the end of Fallout 4 and I wanted to know how to get the ending I want. I'm essentially siding with The Railroad and The Minutemen. I went to The Railroad to build the teleporter and I don't know if The Minutemen will be destroyed when I destroy the institute with The Railroad.

What would the population of the USA be as of Fallout 4?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 04:36 AM PDT

There are roughly 80 residents in diamond city, which seems realistic with all the buildings and jus the general size of a baseball field. Obviously, they couldn't put 1 million npcs if that was the population, it is just to get the general idea.

Anyway, pretty much everyone died in the US WHEN the bombs were dropped. Say .1percent became ghouls and another .5 percent were in the vaults. That would make 2.4 million left in the US. (Population rounded up to 400 million for the 50 years) Lets make it 1.5 million for those who died in the vault.

So 50 years later, every person from the vaults are released. 400000 ghouls make 1000000 babies so round up to 1.5 for the ghouls and the vaults release 1.5 million residents to make the population 3 million. Say 1 million women old enough to have kids, that would add up a lot during the years. Right now the birth rate is 1.73 children per women every year. Which is unrealistic in this fallout world, so let's make it .5 children per women. After 160 years that is 80 million people! That is not even including the extra people who are born having kids that is just the original people who came out of the vault and who were ghouls. So the population would be at least 100 million, with that population, america would easily be restored and wouldn't be a wasteland any longer.

I know I answered my question but I was just wondering if this would be accurate because all I did was a little research. Thanks

Problems with mod configuration menu or whatever it's called

    Posted: 24 May 2021 04:31 AM PDT

Okay so when I try to install the mod configuration menu, it'll say "an exception has occurred", or something along those lines, and won't install. I've tried running it in admin and checking off the boxes and restarting it, but that didn't do anything.

    Anyone got any ideas?

What Happened to the Salton Sea and Palm Springs in Fallout

    Posted: 23 May 2021 05:08 PM PDT

The Salton Sea is a massive inland sea in Imperial County CA. It is never mentioned in any of the Fallout games. after the war it probably became Radiated from the bombs and should be poisoned from the Fallout which made the area inhospitable. There is also never a mention of Palm Springs in Fallout. There is may be a trading post in Palm Springs that leads on the road to Legion Territory and so forth. or a Little Settlement.

    Switching to PC for Fallout

    Posted: 23 May 2021 10:57 PM PDT

I've been considering switching to a PC to play fallout, considering I don't think future fallout games are coming to Playstation and FNV isn't even really on PS4 outside of the base game. Does anyone have any advice on what kind of PC I should get that's strong enough to handle at most Fallout 4 with mods that's also relatively cheap? (PS: I have no preference whether built or prebuilt).
