    Let’s throw a party/convention in Goodsprings!

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 01:20 AM PDT

I've noticed that it is almost becoming a rite of passage for fallout fans to post their trips to Goodsprings and although I haven't made the pilgrimage yet, I could foresee it being a great time with people that hold such appreciation for a great game. Maybe we could play games of Caravan and drink Sunset Sarsaparilla all night

The Courier is the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ.

    - Shot by Benny who wielded Maria - a pistol with the image of Mother Mary on it

    - Superpowers in general. Mr. House notes that the player is somehow able to blow up a whole BoS bunker when entire NCR units would fail.

    - The courier is able to heal people, without any equipment, upon passing a medical check.

    - The courier is able to fix machines, without any equipment or spare parts, upon passing a repair check

Discuss(P.S. not a real life Christian but noticed these things). Also I would be disappointed if New Vegas 2, especially if it set decades after, doesn't deify the Courier.

I've been taking photos around the wasteland lately and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions of places I could go to (unfortunately I do not have any DLC's), thanks!

My courier. What do you think?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:55 PM PDT

I feel like the Gun Runners DLC ruins the balance of Fallout: New Vegas.

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 05:12 AM PDT

The early game for me is always super trivial even on the hardest difficulty, because I can instantly purchase the (GRA) Laser Pistol and just shred low armor enemies in the down-left to down sector of the game. The only problematic enemies are the Night Stalkers (but this is mostly due to the high damage they deal) and Great Radscorpions (however those can be defeated with the plasma rifle or simply ignored, because they don't guard any useful loot in particular). I feel like originally, without the Gun Runners arsenal, you had to rely on the laser pistol Mitchell gave you at the beginning of the game and then swap between it and a Recharge Rifle. But now Recharge Rifle is simply obsolete, because you can just get a 100% mint condition Laser Pistol and blow up everything. You can also install on it further damage and ammo recycling, very common upgrades...
    And I am simply pissed.
I knew it would be like this when I saw the ad for this DLC. The gun runners sure does add a lot of creative weapons and creates solutions for the problems like (Laser Pistol does not have a proper Iron Sight), but at the same time it makes early game extremely boring due to it being braindead get Laser Pistol (GRA), get 50 energy weapons and switch to Recharger Pistol or Plasma Defender.
Also, is it just me or does this game hate the Plasma and Laser rifle? I remember that there is a very late game unique weapon, but... The fact that the Plasma Defender runs on much cheaper ammo and yet is also very powerful, and the fact that the Plasma Rifle has only one upgrade really makes me think.

On another note, this made the Convicts of Primm and Powder Gangers of NCRF extremely easy to defeat. Their outside main position units are extremely poorly armored and die almost instantly to accurate shots of a Laser Pistol (GRA). When I took up the increased firerate at the cost of accuracy perk I could execute a Powder Ganger in a matter of half a second. Amazingly satisfying, but kinda broken. Powder Gangers were supposed to be the early game baddies and yet the fact that (GRA) weapons are so powerful in the early game renders them a nuisance...
Now, I know what... Some of you... Oh, who am I kidding. It never goes the way I think it will. I just don't think it's wise to turn off this DLC, because there are some cool weapons and only the early game feels really unbalanced.
I could say that the only thing preventing you from becoming ABSOLUTELY broken is the fact that energy ammo is scarce. And that would be a good point. ENERGY AMMO is very scarce, but if you invested in the Science perk you get to recycle it either using the inefficient way of 4 to 1 or by utilizing Fission Batteries.

At the end of the day, this is just my opinion and I'm sure that this problem is minimal. Overall the fact that you get access to an actual weapon rather than having to deal with the Recharger Rifle, which is kinda trash, and an almost broken Laser Pistol, makes it so that the early game is less frustrating. But the fact that it grows mechanically shallow at the same time is scary, I just really hope that in the future installments of Fallout-like RPGs there will be no mistake of adding a DLC that adds broken early game weapons, causing the carefully designed ecosystem of early locations to collapse.

Dan Carlin's 5 hour talk about anything and everything nuclear

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 09:52 AM PDT

Ran across this the other day. It's Dan Carlin having a five hour episode all about... nukes. The history of the bomb, the Cold War, physics, the Manhatten Project, sociological effects of nukes, nuclear inventions and some crazy military ideas/plans, Americana, everything. About an hour in I couldn't help but think about Fallout, and it was so interesting to listen while comparing to the game and the in game world. For anyone interested in the story and 'vibe' of the Fallout series would really enjoy this like I did.
