New Vegas is amazing, but Fallout 3 just has an atmosphere I really like.

It's hard to put it into words. But it's something about the world of Fallout 3 and the general aesthetic that makes me really enjoy it over something like Fallout 4. It feels desperate, atmspheric, sad, and dark.

New Vegas make me feel like I can a modern society is very much reachable again. Fallout 4 feels like it doesn't really take its own world very seriously. Fallout 3, at least in terms of immersion, just really pulls me in.

Maybe it's all in the green filter, lol.

Just played Fallout 4 for the first time yesterday and it's my first Fallout game

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 10:23 AM PDT

I put off playing it for awhile because I just figured I wouldn't like it. Didn't really know anything about the gameplay or story and always figured Fallout was more focused on online rather than story, but boy was I wrong when I started Fallout 4.

I love war topics so I'm surprised I didn't actually look into it sooner. I could tell why this game was such a big deal as soon as I was done with the character creation and started playing. How well it emulates old war but also the apocalyptic future. And I knew I was invested when my characters (Johnny) wife was killed and his son was taken. Now I'm really invested in the lore of what's happened and the lore of the war itself. Makes me want to try New Vegas when I'm done.

    If the institute kidnaps people,

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 11:26 PM PDT

And dips them in FEV to make them supermutants as they replace them with synths, then that means every synth sleeper agent has a supermutant counterpart. (Assuming they survive the transformation). Now with this being established based on my own inferences from the instutite, I fully believe that Strong, prior to being dipped in FEV, was the original Paladin Danse. I have zero evidence of it, but I think there would be a tragic irony in him being turned into something he views as an existential threat to human existence.

Playing as a child of Atom after far harbor has to be the way to feel like a crusader in fallout.

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 05:16 PM PDT

With the final perk, I'm running around and one shotting nearly everything I get into a fight with. I truly feel like I'm being Atom's wrath down on every raider or super mutant I kill.

    Glory to Atom!

After looking at the lore in between fallout 3 and 4, could you consider 4 to be a semi-direct sequel?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 10:25 PM PDT

Think about it. In 3, the Institute and Railroad make a small appearance in Fallout 3, in a mission with a synth. This may have been meant to foreshadow Fallout 4's storyline with those two factions. The areas the games take place in are incredibly close compared to the other three games. DC and Boston really aren't too far away from each other, but every other hand is way out east. Then you have the Brotherhood being led by Maxson. Maxson can be found as a child in Fallout 3 with the Capitol Brotherhood, and in between the games, he redirected them to rejoin the main Brotherhood and plays a much larger part in the story this time. Then there's subtle references to FO3, such as the wasteland survival guide.

There's likely more, but could this make FO4 a semi-direct sequel to FO3, and could we expect FO5 to be similar?

F04 Settlement Expansion Ideas: The Slog

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 03:10 PM PDT

Many of the settlements in FO4 are unique, interesting locations even without being built upon by the player. The only issue is that they often lack depth in their characters and quests. I will be writing an expansion for a settlement each week until I have covered all of the ones with potential.

This week we will be focusing on The Slog, arguably one of the settlements with the most personality in the base game. At it's most basic, this settlement represents ghouls standing up against hatred and building a better life for themselves. As anyone who has played FO4 can tell you, their success is the talk of the Commonwealth. That being the case, I think it makes more sense for them to be an established, thriving town rather than an unprotected farm. This is a general idea of what it would look like (All credit to Orody on Nexus for their mod "Settlement Blueprint The Slog"). Large and protected enough to serve a decent population, but small enough to not outshine Diamond City or Bunker Hill.

Any good town needs 3-4 quests to flesh out the individuals living there and establish them as individuals with connections to the world.

    • Mr. Blue: An old Ghoul minuteman who was around for the start of the minutemen but left due to bigotry from farmers and other individuals. This would be an opportunity to share more about what the Minutemen looked like when they first started and why they chose their look and name. The quest would be helping him reconnect with his great-great grandson who is a member of The Children of Atom at the Crater of Atom. The player can convince him to join his descendant at the crater or can convince the worshiper to visit his great-great grandfather. Either choice results in a touching moment where the two reunite.
    • Endless Sleep: This quest would primarily be focused on how a Ghoul community would deal with one of them going feral. A basic outline of the quest is that a ghoul's wife went feral and escaped the settlement, injuring a human trader in the process. The town hires you to eliminate the feral on request of the trader, but the ghoul's husband asks that you find and spare her so he can leave the settlement and continue to care for her.
    • Safe Travels: The Slog is in a fairly dangerous side of the map, surrounded by Deathclaws, Super Mutants, the Forged, and Gunners. A growing trader town needs access to safe supply lines if they are going to survive. This quest would involve establishing a clear route between Bunker Hill and The Slog. In gameplay terms, this would mean helping settlers establish outposts along the road, negotiating with Finch Farm and Country Crossing, and clearing out feral ghouls and robots that would interfere with caravans. With these three tasks, players have opportunities for both role-playing and shooting. A violent player could simply clear out all the enemies in this section of the map and turn in the quest, but a more scientific or charismatic player could focus more on establishing outposts and patrols along the route.

Overall, the Slog has huge potential for quests giving insight into how ghouls live while also expanding the interconnections of the world.

Why do people believe that the PC is a synth?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 11:51 AM PDT

All of the evidence points against this, and any logical thinking derails the argument.

Lets go down the path that he is a defected synth helped by the Railroad. Problem #1: he and kellogg both remember the death of his child. That means that he and kellogg are both synth rescued by the railroad. But why would they have intertwining memories? And that implies that Kellogg went BACK to the Institute. Problem #2: Why does the Institute not try and reclaim the PC? You never encounter an Institute strike team trying to take you back, and the far harbor dlc confirms they try to recapture synths. If you try and explain it by saying that some of the gunners and raiders you encounter, along with wildlife are synths/undercover Institute agents, why would they even go under cover? As we see in Far Harbor, the institue has special agents dispatched to recapture synths, and they are not undercover. Anyway, it does not strike me as an Institute-y thing to do. They seem to enjoy flexing their power. After all, they have their own weapon line instead of using something far better like combat/assault rifles.

Another problem is, if the Institute does have control over the PC, why aren't other synths friendly? And why does the institute not shut you down when you attack them?

Since the instittue and synths didn't exist before the great war (to our knowledge, at least) there is no way you could be a synth before entering the vault, and anyway, you have a kid. How do synths reproduce sexually? They are robots, they can't, unless it is incredibly advanced with an artificial womb with egg cells in the mother and sperm in the father.

BuT WhAt AbOuT VATS? HoW DoSe He SlOw TiMe? For God's sake its a game feature! If you want to explain VATS, then explain Jet as well. And while your at it, how do the drugs work instantly? And how is there a single pill that can cure all your addictions? And how do Mr. Handy robots stay afloat perpetually? Their energy would run out eventually.

And most of all, how do you respawn? That's right, it's a game feature. The game needs it or it would not be as widley accessible to casual fans.

So why do people STILL think the PC is a synth?

I feel like I miss alot in this game.. and I don't know why

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 01:42 AM PDT

I have a habit of going onto the fandom when I encounter NPC's, often they attack me. E.g I went to Black mountain at night, fought a bunch of nightskins, killed someone named 'Tabitha'. Wondering who she was, I googled and found a whole side quest I missed out on. Sucks

why is Jet sold on East coast such a problem?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 01:33 AM PDT

I heard a couple of people complaining that jet is pushed in F3 and it shouldn't be. Why so? Didn't a lot of stuff traveled back and forth? I mean in just a few years you could find prints of the Wasteland survival guide in Mojave, why is it lore breaking that a recepie for a highly addictive drug wouldn't spread across the country?

Is there a note or a terminal that actually disproves with Fallout 2? Did Bethesda really retconned the kid in Reno? Or just slapped it in, and its a problem with laziness? because I think they added a lot of new drugs in F3.

Never knew you could take a vertibird to the glowing sea in F04

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 03:26 AM PDT

I'm playing on survival mode in Fo4 and have just got the serum for virgil andnow I have to run all the way to his cave but I just found out you can just vertibird there!

Like I thought i would just stop on the outskirts of the glowing sea but no it's going straight to Virgil's cave. I'm not getting any rads or enemies spawning and the glowing sea looks so weird without the green mist effect. After six years of playing F04 you still find new things in this game.

I wonder if I could maybe get to Goodneighbour via Vertibird instead of running and facing the chance of the game crashing.

New Vegas - 3700x only one or two cpu cores getting used?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 01:00 AM PDT

I know this is a super old game, and a very unoptimised one to say the least. Im a new player to this game, and have installed all the basic stability mods from JIB to adding in the ini lines to assist with cpu multi threading.

However, on my 3700x I still notice my cores are barely getting used except for maybe 1 or 2. In most times one of my cores are constantly hitting 90-100% whilst the others are barely being used at all.

Is there a fix to this? As mentioned the most relevant ones i've tried was adding in the ThreadedAI=1 thing and adding iNumHWThreads=8

If anyone could give me some help for a new player that would be awesome

Why are the brotherhood so different every location?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 05:54 PM PDT

Probably an easy question, but why is every brotherhood(DC, near the NCR etc) so different? Some want to be an authoritarian dictatorship, others want to save everyone, but in the end they all seem to have different ideologies. Why?

Some decent, realistic Minutemen overhaul mods?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 08:07 PM PDT

Lets face it: basegame Minutemen may be the moral choice, but its not exactly the funnest choice. They make you do radiant quests that, unlike the Brotherhoods radiant quests, are generic and rather boring. Why the fuck am I still expected to do these quests when we have dozens of Minutemen who can do it for me? I AM the General after all, I should be giving my Minutemen orders. The quests that are actually interesting are still few and far between, and happen later after doing either a lot of radiant quests or a lot of wafting. Then, after all this, the minutemen are still just an disorganized organized bunch of settlers with pipe guns and dirty clothes. For fucks sake, all that work to retake the castle, setup a bunch of settlements, getting the armory unlocked, all this and that but im STILL expected to do all the work and the Minutemen are STILL just a bunch of courageous settlers that STILL have pipe guns despite unlocking the armory. Tell me, what is the point of these guys again?

That's why I always wanted a mod that actually improves the Minutemen over the course of the game, gives them more function than just a faction you work for, and gives more Minutemen content. Problem is, most of the mods that "overhaul" the Minutemen either just buff them an unrealistic amount, gives little content other than adding better Minutemen, doesn't actually give more function to the faction other than better Minutemen, or even all of the above. I want an OVERHAUL, not a buff that makes the Minutemen a little more unique.

Does anyone know mods that are like I describe? If not, I would at least take similar overhauls for other factions.

What are good quotes in Fallout 3/FNV that I can tattoo?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 08:28 PM PDT

The Fallout series had been my favorite video games since I was in middle school, so I'm thinking about getting my first tattoo of it. I'm not looking for anything like a picture, but I'm looking for a clean quote from the game that I could circle around my arm. Any suggestions?

    I love Fallout 3.

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 07:03 AM PDT

Now Fallout 4 introduced me to the follow franchise back in 2015 I was around 11 at the time but then during summer of 2018 I got an Xbox 360 and Fallout 3 a few months later on Christmas I'd get Fallout New Vegas but we'll talk about that one later. Now I love Fallout 3 I really do it has some of the best DLC mothership zeta you get abducted by aliens and get to fight your way through an alien ship the pit you either side with the slavers or side with the slaves, point lookout a creepy destination with swamp folk can two people going at it for centuries Desmond and Calvert Didn't you have operation Anchorage which is the first DLC I always do cuz I love the power armor, and now broken steel which I think is a great conclusion to the end of Fallout 3 but here's what I have to say if you're going to do broken steel do every other thing you want to do first to every mission collect every cap because I think that's when you should stop playing the game is once you finally complete broken steel I mean I completed broken steel and I'm still playing Fallout 3 I have over 40 hours in the game. and I love the characters Moira Brown Three dog Colonel autumn James and I love the story as well I love how you're in a comfortable vault then it all goes to heck when your dad leaves and then when you leave you're not allowed to return yes there's that trouble on the homefront mission in the end you still have to leave 101 why cuz you're banished. Because it's like what amata said some people still blame you. But honestly I think Fallout 3 is just a great game and I hope I will love it for more years.

now I don't know if this post is going to get hated by for New Vegas die hard fans but Fallout New Vegas is an okay game. It's not as good as Fallout 3 in my opinion but Fallout New Vegas is an okay game.

Do we really want a New Vegas 2? [Diskussion]

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 12:43 PM PDT

The Question is in the Title but let me explain it a little further:

For me personally New Vegas is one of the greatest games ever made. Great Story, characters, amazing world design and so on... All those things have been said numerous times and they are all true.

But I have been thinking about a possible pre- or sequel to ths great game. I believe that a New Vegas 2 wouldnt actually be that great. I mean we all have seen the Mojave and its stories so it would be kinda hard to get same feel of coriousity in a second game. E.g. all of the Vaults have allready been explored, everyone has seen the casinos and we already solved the ymsterie sorrounding the Sierra Madre...

Furthermor it would be borderline impossible to continue the Story. Alot of playtroughs had different ending. So there is almost no definate startingpoint for a Nerw Vegas 2. Some guys went for the Yes-Man ending, other joined the NCR and a few supported Caeser ( I know, but those people actually exist...). Some helped oout the Brotherhood, others wiped them out, just to name a few examples.

As much as I love New Vegas, I really think that NV 2 could only be very dissapointing.

In my opinion its more about the way Obsidian designed and programmed the whole game, not so much about the fact that it plays (mostly) in New Vegas.

I think what we really should wish and ask for is another Fallout game desigend, written and programmed by Obsidian rather than just the same world to play in.

    What are your thoughts?

By the way: English is not my first language, so please excuse any grammar or spelling errors.

Fallout 1 Save File Glitch Help

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 07:27 PM PDT

Hi, I made it to the Master and convinced him that his plan was a failure, but after doing this I accidently agro'd the eyes so I reloaded my save file to do it again and this time it's only giving my 50 seconds to escape instead of 200 something. No matter what I do I can't seem to fix it. I decided to open up cheat engine to see if there was a way to change the timer but I couldn't find anything. Any help? This is my first playthrough and I really love this game but this glitch ruined my entire playthrough for me.

    Fallout 5 foreshadowing in 4

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 11:17 AM PDT

If y'all followed the pre-announcement hype for Fallout 4, there was a lot of predictions pointing towards the elements of the "Replicated Man" quest being the focus of Fallout 3's sequel.

And lo and behold, the announcement of 4 to be set in the Commonwealth, with the Institute, the Railroad, and Synths (called Androids in FO3, a terminal entry in FO4 references this retcon) being major focuses of the story.

My question is, was there any quest in 4 that contained a lot of material that seems like foreshadowing in the same vein as the "Replicated Man"?

Foreshadowing as in a lot of references to organizations, characters and locations that were not explored in later DLC's?

2x EXP for 770 Perk Overhaul

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 02:37 AM PDT

Wanted to start a hardcore fallout 4 game. Xbox has its limits in modding especially with really cool aspects like overhauling the perk tree with one similar to fallout 3/nv for example. 770 perk overhaul is the only one I could find however I don't want to play for hours or days on end to max a skill. So I was wondering now you have to be like level 770 to fully complete the perk tree. Is it fair to use 2x EXP?
