Why would untouched pre-war military installations have makeshift pipe guns stored there

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:57 PM PST

What reason is there for military personnel to store crude pipe guns along with their factory made weapons?

I would understand, somehow, if there was a pipegun stored in a locked safe behind the counter at a Slocum's Joe or a police evidence locker, but why would the military have them?

Going through the National guard training yard where the place should have been abandoned for all that time, it was weird to see a pipe pistol stored next to power armour and other high calibre firearms.

Or am I just overthinking the random item generation mechanics...

New California Republic governance; the roll of the Senate/Congress and statehood?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 03:22 PM PST

So the NCR has 5 fully fledged states:

    • Shady

    • Los Angeles

    • Hub

    • Maxson

    • Dayglow

The states are expected to send representatives to the Hall of Congress wherein they elect the President and VP of NCR unicamerally.

    A couple questions:

    • 1. The legislative branch is interchangeably referred to as the Congress, the Senate, and the Council. Is one more apt than the others? (It appears as though Congress was used more in Fallout 2 and the Fallout Bible, but New Vegas more consistently refers to it as the Senate.)

    • 2. Is it safe to assume that each state sends multiple representatives?

    • 3. Chief Hanlon can potentially become a Senator of Redding, but seeing as Redding is not one of the 5 states, would this mean that Redding is under the jurisdiction of one?

    • 4. If so, which state? Most of the established states are located very southwards, so where would Redding (as well as Vault City, Klamath, New Reno, and Sac-Town for that matter) be located?

    • 5. That said, why is Maxon still a state when the only known settlement there is the BoS Lost Hills bunker? For one aren't they still considered a sovereign state? One that is at war with the NCR? (Speculation on my part, but is it possible for Maxon to have had its statehood revoked in favor of enfranchising a more northern territory?)

The Courier can't be the first visitor to the Lucky 38 in 200 years!

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 04:02 AM PST

In the presidential suite of the Lucky 38 there is an oven and in the oven is Squirrel on a Stick! There are other post-war foods such as Iguana (human) Bits as well scattered around. So other people must have been in the Lucky 38 after the war and before The Courier! Unless the devs just made a mistake.

Why are super mutant overlords are the only ones with tri-beam rifles?

This always confused me. How do nearly brainless giants have very high tech weapons? Why does the BOS not use this?

I believe I've found the historical inspiration for Cannibal Johnson!

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 01:29 AM PST

First off, while there hasn't been any official confirmation of the connection as far as I know, the similarities evidence is too compelling in my view for this to be considered pure speculation.

Liver-Eating Johnson was a legendary figure in American folklore, famous for his 25 year long vendetta and blood feud with the Crow.

Both men served in the American military before fleeing towards a new life.

    • Cannibal Johnson was a member of the Enclave before the NCR Sack of Navarro.

    • Liver-Eating Johnson fought in the Mexican-American War, but deserted after striking a superior officer.

Aside from obviously sharing the same surname, their nicknames both stem from them eating the flesh of their fallen enemies.

    • Cannibal Johnson ate the heart of a raider in order to distract them.

    • Liver-Eating Johnson ate (you guessed it) the livers of the approximately 300 Crow he killed as an insult (the Crow believed the liver to be vital if one was to go on to the afterlife).

Both were feared and legendary hunters and "mountain men" living in the wilderness.

    • Cannibal Johnson is a literal hermit living in a cave, and iirc rumors have spread about him throughout the Mojave.

    • Liver-Eating Johnson was a survivalist would trek the wilderness for a living, eventually becoming a campfire story.

Both men married a beloved tribal woman, but failed to have any children with her before her untimely death.

    • Cannibal Johnson "[had] a wife for awhile - tribal girl, really pretty eyes - but she's been gone a long time now."

    • Liver-Eating Johnson famously married a Native American woman of the Flathead tribe who he loved dearly. Her murder at the hands of the Crow is what set off his one-man-army campaign of guerilla warfare against them.

Both men made peace and integrated with their former enemies.

    • Cannibal Johnson is highly sympathetic to the NCR, despite fighting them in the past and having had his home destroyed by them. He even tried to integrate into their society after the Sack of Navarro.

    • Liver-Eating Johnson eventually made peace with the Crow, and was even adopted into the tribe as their brother.

Both men participated in a new conflict against a slave-state later in their lives.

    • Cannibal Johnson will wish to help the NCR fight against the Legion in the quest For Auld Lang Syne.

    • Liver-Eating Johnson rejoined the American Army to help fight for the Union during the Civil War.

So what do you guys think? It feels pretty convincing to me personally, but if this is too speculative I'll take it down.

Mr House has some huge blid spots!

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:05 AM PST

For a man of calculating genius it seems odd that Mr House is totally unaware of some serious threats such as the toxic red cloud, which is actually a threat to the whole world because it is self-replicating. OK it has only covered one casino resort in 200 years but self-replicating things start off slowly and then get really fast really quickly (e.g. coronavirus). There are also the tunellers although I think this is more a case of Ulysess being full of shit. Mr House also doesn't seem to care that there are VIP access cards lying around the wasteland that can open up his private chamber.

With the threats that come from the DLC I found it frustrating that you can't tell Mr. House about them, he would surely want to know.
