I once got sent to the school therapist for the day for writing about Fallout.

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 11:58 AM PDT

When I was 15 or so we had this creative writing class and were told to write a story about anything. I had just played through dead money so I decided to write exactly what happened in my play through except I pretended that I made it all up.

Fast forward a few days and I am pulled out of class first thing in the morning and I started getting asked a lot of questions. I was really confused about what was going on and eventually she started reading my story out.

Apparently the whole thing with the explosive collars. My teacher thought it was a metaphor for how I was feeling and I laughed it off and explained it to her how i wrote about a game but they weren't buying it and kept me in for the entire day speaking to different people.

I'm sure they had to keep me in regardless but this just came into my head and it is funny to think back on.

Wow I'm slightly hooked on settlement building in fallout 4

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 07:37 PM PDT

So I've recently started playing Fallout 4 as I've finally had the chance! I've always had last gen consoles and a crappy PC until I upgraded it and got Fallout 4 to run and instead of doing what I'd normally do in Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas (going into every town, settlement and place I can find, murdering everyone and everything and stealing their stuff) I've instead spent my time building bases, wearing dresses and bullying Palidan Danse by firing A Mini Nuke at him for fun.

Building settlements has to be one of the coolest and most epic things I've experienced in a fallout game and I am not sure why. Its ashame its so clunky though.

What would Fallout 3 look like in the Fallout 4 game engine?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 10:21 PM PDT

    https://imgur.com/a/JZcZd5X

Been playing a ton of Fo3 lately and have been absolutely falling in love with the wasteland once more. The iconic grey-green and brown colors of the Capital Wasteland really set the tone of desperation and decay that a post nuclear war world is assumed to have. While playing it, I kept thinking of Fo4, and wondered what the game would look like if it were pumped into the Fo4 Creation Kit engine. Linked above is the result of some photoshop work to that end.

non thirsty vault girl mod for fo4?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 10:10 PM PDT

I want to start a female playthrough, and I want a vault girl replacer (for everything in the pip boy, and ideally the perk tree too), but I am appalled by the thirst in that part of the modding community. Any mod that doesn't have that nonsense?

    Thanks

Lore: Who are all the players of "The Great Game"?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 10:52 PM PDT

As mentioned by Desmond in Point Lookout, he and Professor Calvert are both players of the Great Game, which the Fallout 3 official guide basically described as high up members of government or society who took various methods to survive the great war, but have since decided to settle old scores and generally wipe the other players off the board for their own agenda. As such people that could be players have to be pre-war characters who were high up in society and had access to knowledge of the great war and found various ways to survive. So far my list of likely or potential players is as follows:

*Calvert/Desmond (obviously, it's stated) *Mr. House (preserved himself post war, and was well aware of the political climate and actively seeks expansion and power) *Big MT Scientists/Mobius (intentionally made into robobrains and shielded Big MT) *The Cabot Family (have existed for centuries and could very likely have started the game) *Bradberton (again, high up military connections and preserved himself as a head in a jar) *Eddie Winter (intentionally became the first ghoul through experimentation to live forever, also ran Boston's underground crime network).

So far these are the only characters who I think could be part of the Great Game, but I'm curious what the rest of you think. Let me know in the comments below.

    Fallout3 on Windows 10

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 03:50 AM PDT

I've sat through 3 installations so far, apparently choosing every wrong step. First on windows ten, refuses to start. None of the known fixed work. Fine, virtualization. Windows 7. Dumb. Worst os to have tried for this game.

Then xp. But xp doesn't support integration services. So fallout wont run, because it has no sound. (Which, by the way, super discriminatory)

No-Bark from Fallout New Vegas predicted Mole Miners from Fallout 76

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 09:36 AM PDT

No-Bark in New Vegas discusses "mole men", mole people who live underground and lure surface dwellers into their homes. Interestingly, No-Bark is actually right about almost everything he says, in a way: for example, he talks about a "chupacabra" that can turn invisible and shoot Brahmin with a gun. Turns out there's a night kin that does this.

Fallout 76 comes around and we have the Mole Miners, who are very similar to what he described. So he was right all along.

How do foreigners get to the US after the Great War?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 10:52 PM PDT

Allistair Tenpenny was from England, which is across the Atlantic Ocean. I was wondering on how foreigners can get to the US, especially from across the sea, since most of the boats in the games can only go so far from their ports.

Would you like to be able form relationships with characters from world around you in Fallout 5?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 04:50 AM PDT

    Like marriage in Skyrim.

Almost always I am more interested in ordinary characters from environment, than in "unique and special snowflakes" companions. In Fallout 4, there are a lot of interesting characters, that you want to hug, regret, take into a family, or a settlement, but there is never such an opportunity.

I want to, that characters return home, where beloved will be waiting for them. And not a super creature, but a peaceful person - but only dog is waiting for them. I want to walk around neighborhood, and be with character friends - but best they say can - Hello, thanks for help.

Strange thing, is that in Fallout 4 there are similar moments, but apart from hints, this is not implemented in any way, as if Bethesda wanted, but changed mind. I think, that once foundation is laid, it would be great to bring environment to life, and let characters choose friends and loved ones based on NPC around them, not just companions, and those, who can fight.

Side with the Brotherhood or the Institute for Survival playthrough

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 03:54 AM PDT

I'm currently doing a survival run in F04 and have now reached the quest where one of these factions turn hostile in the main story. I've played this game countless time so I don't really care who I side with but I know that both factions offer benefits to the player in a surivial playthough such as vertibird transport or teleportation and many more.

But which faction would be the most benefical for a survival run?

I was thinking that the institute would be better due to your ability to teleport to the centre of the map and to a player home where you can be healed for free. But then the BOS have the vertibird that can take you almost anywhere and even the glowing sea, which is good travel, but limited to flares you have to buy in small amounts.

Who do you think is better for a survial playthrough in the long run?

Is the SPECIAL system patented or something?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 03:50 AM PDT

Just curious since I've never seen any other game outside the Fallout franchise use it for roleplaying stuff. Not even The Outer Worlds uses it, which is honesty surprising.

Would Strong remain loyal to the Sole Survivor or eventually turn against them?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 10:10 AM PDT

His introduction is all about how he only nominally sides with humanity because he thinks he can find the milk of human kindness to make super mutants as powerful as they can be. However, this plot is dropped and eventually he just decides to stick with the player character once his approval is raised to max.

Realistically, however, how long could this last? He keeps mentioning searching for the milk so would he eventually turn against the SS after seeing no results? It doesn't help that the player can't nudge him to a more heroic, or at least less monstrous, disposition and he remains a bloodthirsty brute from beginning to end. This coupled with his comments about Super Mutants eventually killing humanity and he kind of feels like a ticking time bomb all things considered.

At first I was gonna say that maybe nate and nora aren't married but then I remembered the wedding rings, but then I thought maybe there just engaged? Is there any other evidence that shows that there married in the game? Or is it just a very very small plot hole

    Opinions Needed on Alternate Timeline

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 04:11 AM PDT

Hey everyone, I would like some outsider opinions on the homebrewed timeline I'm making for a Fallout: Wasteland Warfare campaign I'll be running. So far I'm thinking my usual people I talk to are Yesmen, so hence why I'm throwing it here.

The original stories of Fallout 1 and 2 would be the same but with slight changes. For instance, instead of the Vault Dweller meeting the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 1, they meet the Outcast Brotherhood, a group of BoS deserters who refused to abandon a crumbling Republic of California (in this timeline the BoS created the Republic as a test to see if old world society can work without global capitalism). In addition, instead of the Enclave secretly existing in the west coast the whole time, they are instead on the east coast, and those found on the west are an expeditionary force meant to create a foothold on the west coast.

Because of the changes, Fallout 3 and 4 wouldn't happen as they've been set up in the games, and New Vegas would have slight changes to lore.

The biggest changes I want to implement is vehicular usage. While they wouldn't be commonly used as fuel supply was an issue Pre-war, the NCR, BoS, and Enclave would refurbish or even upgrade APCs, trucks and tanks (upgrading mainly taking place in the BoS and Enclave). The NCR use refurbished jets as their airforce, and have a small amount of vertibirds from the events of Fallout 2, while the Enclave would be so technologically advanced that their robotic manpower would be close to 70%, including the androids known as synths (the Institute is the Research and Development branch of the Enclave).

My favourite change I've made is making the Khans more like their namesake, just as the designer of the Khans intended. They would roam the wasteland in small bands using vehicles like the Fusion Flea Supreme as scouts and either the Atomic V-8 or the Chryslus Corvega as primary fighting vehicles. Then they would use a larger vehicle, like a bus or truck, to carry whatever they raided or whoever they enslaved. Plus, since they have access to vehicles, they would make it to Wyoming much sooner than the events that can transpire, giving them a much wider range to travel as a whole.

This is all still in progress, as I'm still waiting for the Mojave expansion for the game to release sometime in October, but I really would like C&C on this. This is just a short description of changes, as a lot of it would require indepth discussion on the individual factions to know how they differ. Here's a link to the Wasteland I've made so far, also WIP

    Quests for settlement in fo76

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 12:08 AM PDT

I did the first quest for settlement, here to stay, but I'm how to get more quests like the invisible ties quest? I'm probably an idiot and missing something, but I thought I'd ask reddit.

I didn't know until recently when I started a second play through that in fallout 4 Preston Garvey gives you the settlement missions in a different order. That alone has entirely changed my experience and it's actually really awesome game design. Anyone else notice that?

New Vegas has allowed me to finally understand RPGs

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 08:07 AM PDT

I have never played a fallout game before, and all RPGs in the past I've played I quickly grew tired of - skill checks just felt like an arbitrary way to block off content in order to encourage multiple playthroughs.

I'm only a few hours into FNV, but it seems to be different to all other RPGs I've played. These skill checks feel far more regular and far more ingrained into the meaningful choices you make. Instead of just using speech to get slightly different dialogue, you can actually use it to impact an unfolding situation in a large way. And the same goes for all skills and stats.

Being blocked off from an approach doesn't feel annoying, because instead of showing you a closed door that you can't go through because you don't have the right stats, the game shows you several doors, some closed and some open. By giving this range of choices, I think the RPG structure becomes not irritating but more rewarding - it feels like there's more of a focus on what you CAN do, rather than what you can't.

These are just my thoughts on the game so far, as someone who's always been apathetic to or downright against the RPG genre in general. I look forward to uncovering more of the game.

And if anyone has any suggestions about RPGs like this, I'd be glad to hear them!
