    Some people, mostly our good friends over at No Mutants Allowed, seem to take a lot of offense at robots in the recent Fallout games being sentient. Their argument is that ZAX units used to take up whole rooms, which is how they were sentient, and that such sentience cannot be miniaturized into Mr. Handies, Miss Nannies, Mr. Gutsies, and Assaultrons.

    That isn't necessarily true however. The first ever ZAX computer was brought online in the year 2054. In just one year it was already obsolete; having been overtaken by ZAX 1.2, the machine intelligence that controls the West-Tek facility in The Glow in Fallout 1. In fact, ZAX 1.0 was scheduled to be sent over to the Museum of Technology in 2078 as it was now completely redundant. This acquisition never went through of course, because of the bombs dropping in 2077.

    2054 to 2077 is a long time. Enough for great strides to have been made in Artificial Intelligence. We also have a system named M.A.R.G.o.T, a much smaller system than a ZAX, made before the ZAX series, and still intelligent enough to have deduced something happened on the surface that has resulted in a total communications blackout. However, M.A.R.G.o.T lacked the self-motivation of later sentient machines to eek out a life of her own; opting instead to continue to work on her prime directive of managing the Presidential Metro.

    On to the topic of Mr. Handy robots, these robots weren't a recent invention before the war. The first ever models hit the market in 2037, a lumbering, dumb as rocks unit with six arms that often had issues carrying out independent functions. These Mr. Handy robots are the kind that we see in Fallout 1 and 2. The sleeker, sentient types of Mr. Handies weren't developed until the 2070's, in conjunction with RobCo. You can, I'm sure, appreciate the time between these models and how much improvement was possible during these decades.

    And lastly, ZAX computers aren't just sentient. Their size ensures their intellectual superiority over every other sentient being. Domestic and military robots being sentient doesn't mean ZAX computers have been outclassed. While these smaller robots are about as intelligent as a human being, ZAX computers are on a plane of existence far beyond anything our minds could ever comprehend.

    Would the Legion actually collapse after Caesar's death in a Legion Victory?

    I've always seen most people assume the Caesars Legion would fall apart completely when he dies and nothing would come of his empire. I believe this assertion to be false because one of the ending slide of the Enclave Remnant's mentions "Caesar's Heir's" plural.

    This leads me to believe that after Caesar's death will lead to a Diadochi of sorts leaving kingdoms of conquered territory to be split among his generals leaving civilizations that will last for an uncertain amount of time but will retain the Legion's culture and customs and most quite possibly their brutality and survival at all costs mentality similarly to how Alexander's conquered territories were "Hellenized"

    While there might be border conflicts among the people's of Legion territory I don't suspect this to actually lead to a completely collapsed society. I think even after Caesar's death the effects of his Legion and there culture will shape the American South West for many generations to come and influence the mindset of future leaders and powers in the region. Caesars Vision of restarting society from it's beginning to shape a new world and not continue with the old one will come to pass although it's possible it may not lead to the vision of the Pax Romana Caesar wanted.

    Does the player character (or any character for that matter) do anything to prepare pre-war food before eating?

    I've always wondered what happens when the player character eats something like a box of Blamco Mac and Cheese out in the middle of the wasteland. Are they just eating dry noodles and a packet of cheese powder, or is it more like an mre where everything needed to prepare a hot meal on the go is included in the box? The same question applies for things like the Salisbury steaks, Instamash, or anything else that in our world would usually require external heat and/or some work to make edible/palatable

    What’s the status of baking post war?

    What if ghouls used Rad-Away

    So, as you know, when in game and you contract radiation poisoning and radiation sickness, you can just use few RadAways and you are healed. But what about ghouls? Could they be cured? I underatand that they were exposed to radiation for 200 years whule your character was exposed for a few seconds minutes or hours. And Ghouls' flesh and skin is rotten. But what would happen if they used it?

    Gen 3 Synths, FEV, and the Underdevelopment of The Institute

    According to the wiki, Gen 3 Synths were developed as the culmination of FEV research and the Synth program. There is no definitive answer in the lore that I can find to explain how FEV research and the Synth program came together with Shaun's pre-war rad-free DNA. The wiki states that FEV was used with Shaun's DNA to make the Synths but I can't find anything to really legitimize this claim.

    Are the Synths designed with the inclusion of the "two perfected FEV strains" mentioned in the wiki? Is FEV in the red bath Synths are dunked in to give them their skin? Is FEV included in the tissue building process, or used to modify the DNA before the Synth manufacturing begins? Since the Institute used FEV to make super mutants and they have access to undamaged DNA could they make super mutant Synths?

    Are there any answers in FO4 or other canon Fallout material? I wish there had been more fleshing out of these details and the science behind the Institute.

    Is the state of The Glowing Sea accurate after 200 years?

    I understand that it was ground zero for when the bombs dropped. But even after 200 years, should it still be barren like it is? Or would it be overgrown with vegetation?

    As well. Does it make sense to still have constant radiation storms? Or is it plausible to see a clear sky once in a while?

    (FO4) Why does the synth retention bureau exist?

    Seriously, the Institute can pop out synths at incredible speeds. Why do they spend so many resources on bringing the escapees back, when it would be simpler to just build a new one?

    Do they actually care that their synths can cause havoc on the surface (gabriel) ? I don't think that's the case. That would make them the good guys....

    at the beginning of the game you see the vault-tec rep and others begging to be let in, you can meet The others in a random encounter, so why did only the vault-tec rep stay sane

    Slaver Activity in the Pitt Before Ashur?

    I am setting my Pen and Paper Fallout campaign in 2250, and I was planning on there being a large slaver operation in and around the Pitt. That being said, I just played the Pitt for the first time last night, and it seems that the slavery is solely Ashur's doing (or at least inflated by him directly)

    I'm aware the the Brotherhood Scourge swept through in 2255, and I actually based this whole campaign around that fact. (The campaign is based in NY, but PA is a highly visitable location) What do you guys think about the lore aspect of having large slaving operations in pre-Ashur Pitt?

    Also: ik info is scarce, but as this point I feel that I've exhausted the sources. Even vague mentions or memories from you may help me. (In TKs-Mantis's video about Ashur, he mentions that slaving was going on before him in the Pitt, but I can't find a source for that)

    Why didn't Roger Maxson Destroy Mariposa?

    Did Maxson at one point plan to return to the base to acquire more technology of the base but the Brotherhood forget where it's located? The Log does imply he never had any intentions to return!

    Any ideas about ghoul feralization?

    I mean, the games don't give us much. Ghouls look like people with damaged skin, feral ghouls look like starving skinless people. But isn't this just a case of lazy game design? I personally have two different ideas regarding two of the main assumptions in the Fallout community.
    First is, if ghouls go feral because radiation destroys the brain then the way feral ghouls look like shriveled corpses is because they just lost skin and body mass over time. IF this is the case there SHOULD be feral ghouls that look like normal people and not even like ghouls, i.e. humans whose brains got fried but the bodies did not "catch up" and so these ghouls are missing in the games.
    The second is that if ghoulification involves a significant amount of pain and psycological shock then going feral is practically the same as going insane. I mean, I won't be surprised if spending a century or more in a desolate lifeless wasteland or in some dark metro tunnel can erase any traces of intelligence. Additionally, considering most people prefer to shoot them on sight and rarely ever allow them to live in human settlements we can imagine most ghouls were basically left to rot in safe places like metro tunnels. I think the proof to that is the existence of non-feral glowing ghouls which are walking radiation emitters but their brains are just fine. In WHICH CASE some ghouls should look like ferals without being ferals.
    To clarify, this is not a discussion about the causes of feralization (as you know those two assumptions were always out there) but more about what exactly happens during that process and how ghouls should look like.Your ideas, guys and gals?
