Lightbulb Signs & Neons Not Lighting Up

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 06:15 AM PST

Hey guys, hope that I tagged this post correctly and could get some help on the issue. What happens is that signs in my game aren't lighting up correctly. This is what it looks like in Goodsprings for me, this is what vanilla looks like and I'm not getting. Clearly those lightbulbs on the sign should be on, as well as the decoration light strip below it. I've tried running a new save with zero mods and this is what it looks like, again pretty plain.

Video settings are on Ultra, tried HDR, Bloom, None, under light and it makes no difference. This is my mod list for reference. It's basically a pure Viva New Vegas tutorial, minus Follower Formula and with a few textures added (NMC's, Pip Boy, Loading Screens, ADAM, Characters) plus Electro City with only the component adding the lamp posts on roads. Neither of these make any difference on the issue I have, whether I keep them enabled or disabled, start a new game, etc.

I'd love some help here as I feel that I'm missing out on what the game should look like, especially when I'll reach areas with even more elements like the one's I'm missing.

Anyone know what mod is doing this?

My late review of the mod Fallout: New California.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 01:27 AM PST

I recently did a playthrough of Fallout: New California because I had heard good things about it and I wanted to try it out for myself. I did an NCR playthrough and I will be commenting on that playthrough. Spoilers will be tagged as such.

    Combat:

    • Yes, the combat is obviously just New Vegas' combat but the main difference is the enemies you'll be facing. In New California there are a lot of enemies, I mean A LOT. Most quests have you going up against countless bullet sponges. I'm not a huge fan of this especially because the combat in New Vegas isn't designed for large groups of enemies and fights end up moving rather slowly. The enemies you'll be fighting are typically fast as well and unless you have a good build or plenty of companions expect to die a lot.

    Open World:

    • The open world of New California is rather empty. This is to be expected due to its small development team but the main problem with this is how almost every quest in the game, save one or two, send you across a large portion of the map. I'm confused as to why they made this decision but I assume it's to lengthen the game. Major locations are very empty as well with only a handful of NPCs that actually serve a purpose.

    Companions:

    • The companions are a large part of Fallout: New California up until you leave Black Bear Lodge. After this the companions become nothing more than pack mules with the occasional dialogue, some companions have no dialogue after you leave the Black Bear Lodge. The companions themselves I found interesting for the most part, each one is unique and they all have their own personalities all of which I like. It's just a shame how underutilized they all were by the end.

    Dialogue:

    • The dialogue while poorly written in many areas provides a range of choice unparalleled in much of the series, even surpassing New Vegas' range of choice in some areas. Most of the time you'll be encountering S.P.E.C.I.A.L stat checks rather than Skill checks. Most checks will be rather high so if you play a stronger character you'll have access to different dialogue options than a very perceptive character for example.

    Story:

    • The story is the weakest aspect of Fallout: New California in my opinion. It starts off strong in Vault 18 and the following part in Black Bear Lodge but afterwards it falls apart fast. For one it doesn't make much sense for the NCR to be out in the Pass, what purpose do they serve out there? They don't seem to be doing much other than fighting the Raiders. At first I thought that's why they were there but apparently the NCR Congress doesn't think the Raiders are a threat.
    • It falls apart even further when the Unity returns. The whole point of the Mariposa Super Mutants after Fallout 1 is that they're meant to be scattered outcasts and wanderers, it simply makes no sense for them to be brought back as antagonists in the form of a massive army. The fact that your character is>! literally a clone of the Fallout 1 Vault Dweller is very dumb for so many reasons in my opinion.!<
    • The endings feel very forced to me as well. It just kind of makes you the Courier through extreme mental gymnastics which defeats the whole purpose of them being a blank slate if you're also the Fallout: New California character and partially the Fallout 1 character as well.
    • I liked the mechanics of the final bosses, it was cool how they were essentially immortal but I wasn't a fan of the endings in general. Like I said they felt very forced. There are other smaller things I liked such as how Union City was built in the style of the classic NCR buildings but there are also smaller things I didn't like such as Rossman as a character, he just seemed too knowledgeable without much of an explanation.

Overall I give Fallout: New California a 3/10, I understand it's a mod but I just think a lot of things could have been done better. I do want to say that it is incredibly impressive, I understand how challenging of a project this would be to make and the fact that a team that small were even able to do this is astounding. Good on you guys for pushing through the challenges and creating something this large for New Vegas!

This is the best Fallout hands down.

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 05:01 PM PST

As a fan of the fallout series, I loved the idea about the karma mechanics, the good, the bad, actions and their consequences throughout the entire game. This alone made me appreciate the series in my early teens. But what I love about Fallout New Vegas is the amount of factions and potential for a follow up. With two massives army fighting fighting over the strategic position of New Vegas we notice the potential for an independent New Vegas and a renewed hope for humanity. A willingness to work towards a reap what you sow society. I pray we see what really happened to the Mojave Wasteland and I'm optimistic that we'll find out sooner, rather than later.

    Recommendations for Hardcore Mode

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 06:15 PM PST

So in all of my play throughs of Fallout New Vegas, I have never played on Hardcore Mode and I'm thinking about playing my next run only on this mode.

The character I plan to play in this mode is that of a bisexual black cowgirl who is very pro-NCR. Her base stats would be 5 Strength, 7 Perception, 7 Endurance, 1 Charisma, 6 Intelligence, 7 Agility, and 7 Luck. The tagged skills would be Guns, Repair, and Survival. The traits I have chosen would be Built to Destroy and Fast Shot.

I'm looking for consultation to see if there are changes that I should make to my base character so I don't get absolutely destroyed. From what I've heard about Hardcore Mode, that might happen either way at some point.

Tips on how to get 'neutral' karma for that one level 50 perk

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 02:10 AM PST

I'm playing a lawful evil NCR character, so ideally nothing that would get me -rep with NCR. I'm lvl 44 rn on the character, so any ways to just drop to neutral karma would be amazing. My current karma is at messiah, idk how much I need to drop though. I assume nuking the BOS bunker would drop my karma by a lot, can't think of anything else though. House and Ceaser are dead already btw

    Merchants not restocking

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 10:13 PM PST

So i had a plasma caster from the Van Graffs at about level 5 of so, I'm now level 24 and they still haven't had another in stock. I got fed up of paying for it to be repaired so i sold it.

I've tried resetting the inventory with the console and it's not done anything (her caps and stock are were they were before i did it) I've left the shop and rentered after that too and it's still not worked.

I don't want a plasma caster any more as I've got the ycs/186 and Pew Pew but there's other items that may not be restocked/offered for sale.

Also I've bought a Gauss rifle from the brotherhood of steel and it's been 3 days and while their caps have restocked they didn't have another one available so it could be they are also affected.

Why doesn't Lanius have his scars?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 05:33 PM PST

When you kill Lanius and remove his mask his face looks like exactly one of the facial presets, with none of his legendary scars.

    How come?

    I have a few ideas.

Maybe its because Lanius' scars are just a myth used to strike fear into the Legions enemies and pacify its troops.

Or it may be because we aren't supposed to see his face anyway, perhaps? So an oversight?

Im wondering if there is some sort of engine limitation as to why he doesn't have unique scars. That wouldn't make too much sense though because Pretty Sarah has unique looking facial burns and the Fiends have dirt all over their face.

Is it a continuity error, in that Lanius is given backstory in the DLCs and so scars weren't on the table?

Pinnable crafting recipe mod? Help with survival mechanics.

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 09:49 PM PST

I've a hard time recalling the recipes of things I want to build while I'm away from the workbench/whatever and out in the wild. if for whatever reason I cannot carry an entire Salvation Army in my pockets, is there a mod that would, say,

let you call up crafting menus, either in the pip boy or the menus themselves, which would let you check up on recipes for this or that (food to weapons to objects)?

I'd love to build some of this shit but I always forget I can until I'm at a bench, and then I never have the shit for it. And some shit needs even more shit built first. I'm cool with all of it, and wanna engage the system, but heeeey...

Trying to look for a similar game

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 04:42 PM PST

    Hello,

there was a game that was recommended to me on Steam awhile back that looked exactly like Fallout 3, graphically wise. It was also a 3d open world post-apocalyptic game with somewhat dated graphics. I believe it was made by an indie company but I can't quite remember. I know that this description is very vague but please let me know if you guys know of a title like this.
