What's a memory from fallout that you vividly remember and feel strongly too

    Posted: 07 Jan 2021 01:07 AM PST

It can be anything related to fallout, the launch of a game, a moment in a game that stuck with you, a funny glitch, a convo you had with another fan.

For me one of many memories from this game would be the first time I saw a brotherhood virtabird in fo4, it was flying over head some super mutants shooting black beams down from itself to the green muties below.

I was sitting just a bit away crouched down waiting for it to kill all the mutants so I could loot the remains, and when the fight was finally over some small part of my brain thought "well that bird's already damaged, if I shoot it with a rocket and it dies I'd get some free fusion cores, right?" So I quick saved and did exactly that.

The bird began to spin wildly after the rocket connected, drifting slowly down before going out in a blinding blast as it landed in the middle of the battlefield, I carelessly walk towards the wreckage thinking I'd receive some free loot to bring back home, well I was careless until one of those black lasers hit me.

Two knights in power armor were standing in the rubble, shooting through it and only having lost half their health. Their Brotherhood of Steel power armor had protected them from both the crash and the explosions, and now they both were firing at me, the one that brought down their flying aircraft.

I quickly scramble to pull my rocket launcher out again having put it away and equipped my silenced 10 mil. I fire shot after shot of explosive rockets into the two. They did not fall. I ran out of ammo for my rocket launcher before they fell. I had to swap to my pistol and fire vats crits into each knight's head before they died.

So yeah I remember that, what do you remember vividly about fallout

Why is Fallout 4 singled out for restricting backstory?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 08:38 AM PST

So a common critique of Fallout 4 is that the game gives you too much backstory, which restricts roleplay, and creating your own character. I don't disagree, but Fallout 4 isn't the only offender of this, and isn't even the worse. None of the other games get any criticism for it though.

Fallout 1 - Only establishes that you are a vault dweller, but does come with three presets that give detailed backstories

Fallout 2 - Decides who your grandfather, mother, and extended family are. Decides where you grew up, and what tribe of people you belong to. Spells out your destiny and character motivation.

Fallout 3 - Establishes exactly where and when you where born, who your parents are, where you grew up and your childhood, everyone you've ever known, and a strong connection with your dad that drives the entire story.

Fallout NV - Your a mailman that's walked a lot.

Fallout 4 - Establishes your occupation, that you have a spouse and child, and you're a pre-war vault dweller.

FNV and FO1 are the only games that really lets you decide who your character is, and it's mostly just FNV that encouraged it, which why I think people didn't like it when FO4 added some backstory again. It seems weird to criticizes FO4 for something the other games did, and which I think FO3 is guilty of the most.

The FPGE Mod for New Vegas- Continue After the Game's Ending

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 06:41 PM PST

FPGE is a mod that effectively does what the Broken Steel DLC did for Fallout 3, but on a far grander scale--giving you the ability to return to the world of New Vegas after the game's "official" ending.

Continuing after the ending of New Vegas was originally intended to be included by the developers, but a tight deadline meant that those intentions were unfortunately cut short.

Unlike the more popular and far inferior CAGE, with FPGE, the world of New Vegas post-Battle of Hoover Dam actually changes based on the decisions you made on your journey throughout the Mojave. As just one small example, if you choose to side with the Legion in the Battle for Hoover Dam, most doctors will leave the Mojave because of the Legion's superstitions against science. This is especially true if the brutal Legate Lanius becomes leader of the Legion as opposed to the more peaceful Caesar, leaving even more burnt down towns and crucified settlers now punctuating the already barren, hostile wasteland. If you want to keep playing after the game is over and actually have the world changed by your choices, try this!

I have no affiliation with this mod fyi, just wanted to share it.

    Is Ulysses the Lone Wolf?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2021 02:03 AM PST

I'm not talking about the creepy pasta. I just mean, do you think it's possible he ran Lone Wolf Radio?

Frumentarii are associated with wolves (Vulpes's headgear for example), and Ulysses is a loner. They're also information gatherers for Caesar and running Hamm radio's under the front of being a radio station would be a great way to gather intel (also an excellent way to get in contact with Elijah when they decide to infiltrate Big MT).

There's also most of the items used to repair EDE in the camper, and Ulysses was the one who dropped him off in Primm, being unable to fix him.

The writing on the wall about how "they're all gone" could be a reference to the Twisted Hairs, his Tribe Caesar wiped out. Ulysses also is kind of an Asshole, so "KEEP OUT" would be the kind of thing he'd post outside his abode.

The location is based on a man one of the designers knew in college who protested the government from his camper. Ulysses, despite Old Glory, hates both governments.

It's also relatively close to where you go into the Divide.

I do genuinely think it could be him, but it might not be. Not everything has to be connected to the deep lore of Fallout.

But that's just a hypothesis. An electronic entertainment device hypothesis.

... Sorry. I'm better than referencing that two bit hack.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 06:31 PM PST

When I started playing f04 again after completing 3 and Skyrim, I forgot how to get to the atom cats and what they are completely. Can I find them after finishing the storyline?

Shouldn't Goodsprings be way more dilapidated and/or torn up? I mean the terminal in the abandoned school house still has power and most of the homes are still livable and the springs themselves seem fine

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 04:13 PM PST

I understand the Mojave was less impacted than the rest of the US but Primm and NoVac are in such worse condition

[FO3] has anyone ever unironically died of radiation poisoning in fo3?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 07:53 PM PST

Aside from the GECK and the DLC there seems to be no high rad zones and the game gave me 48 radaway before I hit level 10 and I think I maybe used 2 or 3 by level 10 it seems like not an actual threat to your character.

I am being put on the report

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 05:55 AM PST

Paladin Danse actually threatened me,saying he was going to put me "on the report" for siding with Lorenzo Cabot.

I am trying to picture Captain Kells reading the report:

"... And then he helped Lorenzo defeat his family. Lorenzo has been locked up inside insane asylum for last 400 years, Also, he has an alien artifact permanently attached to his head. All of them have been running the insane asylum for centuries as family business...".

Somehow, I don't think Kells would have taken it seriously.....

BTW, is there anyone else who finds Lorenzo's promise of "lifetime supply of immortality serum" a bit awkward ?

What level should I play dead money to make it more challenging?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2021 03:18 AM PST

I started a run at level 1 (thinking it would make it tough) and the ghosts were made of tissue. I beat it with the police pistol on hard-core mode. Hell, didn't even need to use the vending machines.

I'm thinking since the enemies scale to level there has to be a sweet spot where they pose a threat and the character isn't over leveled. Maybe 20? Or 15?

How in the hell did they design Fort Hagen so poorly!? It took me forever to find that stupid elevator when it was time to fight and I kept getting lost inside. It's never taken me that long to get from point A to point B.

(New Vegas) How can you spare Benny?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 09:08 PM PST

So i have my first playtrough and because i'm a retarded idiot i allways overwrited my last save. I got to cecar and did something for him. As a reward, he gave me Benny to kill. But i didnt wanna kill him so i choose the option to free him. Since you cant save while in dialoge, i overwrited my last save just in the moment the conversation was finfished. What i didnt know is that if you do that, EVERYONE wants to kill you immediatly. I'm stuck now because i die immediatly every time. Also, Benny dies after like one punch from someone. Now i'm stuck and compleatly fucked up, but the only thing that really bother me is how you are supposed to spare Benny? He die immediatly if you free him

    Fallout 4 Codsworth Won’t Talk? Series X

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 06:20 PM PST

So I got a series X day one. F4 is my fav game ever. My nephew got one for Xmas and is new to consoles so I got him the GOTY editor to show him what good games are made of. He said he got out of the vault and Cod wouldn't talk to him. I haven't played F4 on the series X yet. So I loaded the game and it's doing the same for me. What's up? Does the game not work on the Series X for some reason? Not sure how to fix the problem. Only solutions I see are from years ago on other systems.

Stuck on clearing interior of World of Refreshment: Nuka World (Xbox one)

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 08:05 PM PST

I know this has been posted before but I CAN'T find any answers that help me out. I've seen codes but they only work for PC (unless there's a way to use codes on xbox?) I've cleared the ENTIRE interior and exterior (which says it's been cleared) but it still says the interior isn't cleared. I went throughout the building several times just to be sure. Is there any solution? Would contacting them help? Uninstalling and reinstalling? Please help :(

How bad is New Vegas without stability mods?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 12:54 PM PST

Bought the game in sale and very excited to start playing. A lot of people recommend modding.

Im not very comfortable with mods Mostly just that I have a hard time following guides. If its really neccessary Ill do it ofc. I just would like to know how bad it can get

Edit: thanks for all the great answers. I think I really am going to jump into mods. It seems possible to get through without but on the other hand I will have a much better experience if I just force myself through it. Should probably be some good guides out there
