Posted: 04 Jan 2021 12:34 PM PST In a game like the outer worlds which also has a similar retro style the style is ineffective not because it's not visually good but because it doesn't fit the setting or themes. A heavily corporation controlled world fits the modern day way more than it does any other time period so a retro astetic clashes with the themes and ideas of the game. Fallout doesn't have this issue at all because the 1950s was a time period of fear of nuclear threat as well as patriotism being pushed very hard. This fits perfectly for a nuclear apocalypse game because not only is the nuclear threat well known for that decade but also because seeing posters and flags and terminal entries about the strength of America really adds to the post nuclear chill that fallout gives. Nuka World way better than I thought. Posted: 04 Jan 2021 06:59 PM PST I just have to say that som may people said Far Harbor was the best(maybe it is) and alot of them said Nuka World sucked. I 100% disagree. I also think another playthrough of Nuka World would be alot better than another playthrough of Far Harbor. Dealing with the town and then DiMa a second time was so boring. I finally got Nuka World for my 5 day quarantine and have spent a solid 30-40 hours on it and haven't even tried taking out the leaders or going back to the commonwealth to take over settlements as a raider yet. Anyways, it has far exceeded my expectations. So if anyone else was skipping it because of what you read here, give it a shot. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 07:13 PM PST I just finished my second playthrough, as well as all of the DLC for New Vegas. I had a blast replaying the game so soon and finally playing the DLC for myself (especially Old World Blues), and Lonesome Road was no exception. The Divide was unique, the new weapons were really fun, and it just felt really fun to traverse. Then, there's Ulysses. This is a character and a plot point that has been built up throughout the base game and all of the DLCs, and it's fitting that you finally get to meet and deal with him right before the end of the game. However, instead of him living up to the hype, I found him to be... confusing. While I thought he was an overall interesting character, what really broke his whole appeal for me was that his motives and overall arc made little to no sense. Asides from his origins in the Legion and the fact that the Divide's destruction broke his spirit, there really isn't a conclusion other than the "he's completely nuts" route I'm inclined to take. All of his rambling about how the "Bear and Bull" are bad, and how he's going to destroy the Mojave because the Courier may or may not have accidentally blown up the Divide isn't very cohesive, or even understandable. Elijah's motives in Dead Money were also partially because he too was pretty insane, but he took time to explain himself at the end with more or less clear words. I also took issue with the whole background of the Divide as well. Why give the Courier, meant to be a blank slate for the player to project themselves onto, an origin story besides being a courier? We don't know the Divide by the time we get there, we don't know what happened, and it all feels really strange to suddenly have this one guy tell you that what happened here was your fault. There's no connection to the player, and so I feel the impact is lost. Either way, the ending of this DLC really left my scratching my head, and judging by other posts I've seen on here and on other forums, I'm not alone. My question is this: what exactly is the point of Ulysses as a character? Did I completely overlook something in his dialogue, or is being crazy all there is to it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jan 2021 02:46 AM PST I'm not sure how it happened. I joined the Brotherhood and was about to leave to recon the base. I guess I must have accidentally fired a shot or something just before saving and failed to notice (maybe arming a weapon is enough?), because when I reloaded the saved game I was in combat straight away with my two human companions who would not let it go. They kept getting incinerated. Finally one of the paladins missed and I managed to get to the exit grid before my guys were blown away. I came straight back to find Cabbot halfway to the gate and very hostile talking to me, but still using the dialog for initiates. It's hilarious. There's nothing I could do to get him to calm down and go back to his post. I carried on with the quest thinking how unfortunate it was to leave that little piece of unpleasantness crystalized in a corner of the wastelands. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 11:07 PM PST Imagine playing a classic final fantasy game where the first hour of battle consist 90 percent of the characters missing each other. Whoever made this game mustve had some serious hatred for the people playing it, there are few things more enraging than getting killed by a goddamn plant because you missed 12 times in a row with the worthless butter knife the game give you. Why does Elder Maxon refuse to speak with you? Posted: 04 Jan 2021 03:21 PM PST I got the Minutemen ending(the one where you DON'T blow up the Prydwen) and ever since then Maxon has refused to speak with me, is he so salty that the Minutemen destroyed the Institute and did their job a thousand times better he refuses to speak with me? Or is it a glitch. [link] [comments] |
Why don't we ever hear of any working planes? Posted: 05 Jan 2021 04:05 AM PST Throughout fallout we've heard of and seen working trains, cars, trucks, blimps, vertabirds, construction vehicles, ECT. But have never heard of or seen any functional planes. We see them torn to pieces across Boston but you think there would've been some out over the ocean or something that missed the bomb's blasts and survived to later land and be used by raiders or something. What is your favorite Fallout Monologue? Posted: 05 Jan 2021 01:33 AM PST I'm applying for theatre schools, and part of that process is cutting monologues for auditions. Of course, using a monologue from a videogame would be a shot in the foot due to the taboo, but whenever I thought of what I'd like to cut, my mind went back to Fallout. Since the MC is silent (in most of the games) the cutting is practically done for you. I certainly remember some powerful lines, so I thought I might as well ask you guys what you think. Playstyle for a 1st play through of Fallout 2 Posted: 05 Jan 2021 01:26 AM PST Twice I have tried to make a character and get into the game but each time my character did not turn out well. So I wanted to know what would be a good build for a noob. I know there are a bunch of archived threads about this, but none of them have helped me. [link] [comments] |

Just a small observation of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas compared to Fallout 4 Posted: 05 Jan 2021 01:06 AM PST This is all based on pure opinion. So FO3 and FONV are older games in the franchise. So their graphics are inferior compared to FO4. However I believe the skill/perk system and leveling system was better in FO3 and FONV. I say this because im FO3 and FONV, there was a level cap. I personally like the level cap. The games are RPGs after all. So in FO3 and FONV, because of the level cap, you had to be pretty careful in what perks and skills you chose. And thats what made your character be the way you wanted. If you wanted to make your character a charismatic melee character, those are the skills and perks you focused on. Which by the time you reached the level cap, thats exactly what your character would be. However in FO4, you can keep leveling up, you can get all skills and all perks. Which doesn't make your character a specific build, but all builds in one. Which I think makes the point of the game of being an RPG, kinda, screwed. Dont get me wrong its totally cool to have the choice to completely get every skill and perk. But in the previous games, you had to pick and choose skills and perks wisely. There's many things I like about FO4 as well. The new enemies and more variety of weapon modding is great. However, in my opinion I dont really like the legendary system. You usually get useless weapons that you'd end up selling. Of course though, that's more money in your pocket. So its hit or miss basically. I do like the map in FO4. Its big and has many different types of atmospheres to explore. However I dont like how almost every single area is occupied. Theres like no empty areas to just explore. Theres always synths or raiders. I also feel like FO4 was watered down compared to the previous games. FO3 and FONV both had dark stories, humor, and other things like that. For example, FO3 had kids that cussed like a sailor and had hella dark topics. Then in FONV they had talked about even more topics like sexual assault, prostitution, and whatever the hell is up with Caesars Legion lmao. Then FO4 has raiders. Yes they do drugs but its not as severe as it was in previous games. Theres hardly any cussing which oh well I get it. But it doesn't have nearly any topics that were in previous games. Maybe because of how society has changed over the years? Then, FO3 and FONV had more of an RPG feel due to the many dialogue options you could choose from. However FO4 has like 4, and most of them are the same things with different wording. You dont really get any of the things you'd truly want to say to the people. I do like how speech works in FO3 and FO4 though. Its always a gamble instead of in FONV, if you have the speech you just successfully do the speech check. Which is way too... OP. However I do enjoy the games in their own way. I just wish Bethesda and Obsidian would come together and make a new Fallout game together. The story and game play would be immaculate. These are all just my opinions on what are the strong and weak points of the games. You can agree or disagree and thats okay. We all have different opinions [link] [comments] |
About the writing in Fallout 4, and why I think it's good Posted: 04 Jan 2021 05:02 AM PST if i have to sum it up, it's the feeling. fallout 4 portrays a very different world from 3 and NV. No doubt some would consider it "not apocalyptic enough" or just a "fallout themed skyrim". but for me, the care shown to create every mesh, every weapon and armor design, every texture, architecture, even old 70s toys makes the game more immersive than any other game. you get the feeling of living in a post apocalyptic world different than your own, not just reskin of mad max or waterworld. it has it's own style, and the designers are passionate designing a wacky retro futuristic game. Granted, the dialogue was shitty, but the worldbuilding isn't. fallout 4 shows its own approach to the Great War and the upcoming faction wars through many different elements, quests, and terminals. it didn't just dump all that information in a dialogue like NV did (not to say NV did bad in execution, as the dialogue was interesting, but it could be better). For example, the very first quest Father asked you to do is to go around and talk to the people in different areas of expertise. immediately you are showcased how departementalized the institute is. further reading on random terminals, idle dialogues, and world building (e.g. the synth janitor getting shittalked) shows the stance of institute about their divide, about the synths, and about their perspective on the outside world. in one quest you are told basic complete information that you need to know about the institute before further dealing with Father. jumping to the institute quests, they practices show, dont tell principle. Shaun didn't bother lecturing you about his ideologies, he understands that your worldview is different and hard to change. instead, he asked you to go around and do things the institute way, gaining a new perspective yourself. about the technology, about the people, and their goal. Shaun knows that frankly, if showing you their ways didn't convince you, no amount of rhetorics will. and that's just a quest in the institute. first railroad quest on slocum joe shows why the railroad is borderline paranoid. the whole arc about danse becoming synth shows an irony on the fallacy of believing so much in an ideology, you lose your humanity. The ending, whichever faction you choose, ends with a giant destruction that greatly resembles that on the day of ocober 23rd, ultimately reminding you how it all comes full circle and utterly hypocritical in nature (something something never change). of course, the plot is not so grandiose or world-affecting like NV did, and it certainly has a lot of plot holes even without talking about the cut content. my point is that the world has so much stories that people doesn't even bother explore. Many people just lazily said that the story is bad because the dialogue wasn't verbose, or just because they didn't bother playing the game besides the main quest TLDR: fallout 4 has a lot of interesting philosophy and stories beyond their shitty dialogue [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jan 2021 12:31 AM PST I have tried both the iPresentInterval=0 and b ForceIgnoreSmoothness =1 to get rid of the input delay on PC. Last time I did this, it worked perfectly, but now I can't get rid of it. Anything else I can do to get rid of this annoyance? [link] [comments] |
There’s a Fallout for Everyone! Posted: 04 Jan 2021 06:41 AM PST So I'm relatively new to the subreddit myself but I've found a common trend. I have found that a lot of people have a lot of opinions on the various Fallout games. Shocker I know. People have different opinions. However I would like to point out a very cool thing about the series, that there is something for everybody and all the games are drastically different from one another. A series that made me think of this is the Metroid Prime series. Each game is different, each game offers a different thing for specific wants. Fallout 3 is most like MP: Echoes. It's the darkest of the games (which is saying something) and feels like a full on wasteland. It uses darker color tones to convey a feeling a desperation. It's the black sheep of the 3D franchise. New Vegas is like Metroid Prime. It's the game most people love and will defend to the death (as long as it isn't mean it's okay). Some may not find it their cup of tea but that's okay too! It gave us a very different story and once your out of the early game the world opens up to you. Fallout 4 is most certainly like Corruption. So much more casual but that makes it so easy to pick up. The story leaves something to be desired but you have to at least give credit for trying out new mechanics at the peak of the franchises popularity. Fallout 1 & 2 are like any 2D Metroids, a bit harder to get into and certainly doesn't hold your hand but once you do you may be pleasantly surprised. F76 is like Federation Force, if you have friends it's great! If not well you should pick up one of the other ones. So what's the point in this? Well it's to say that it's okay to disagree with favorites or "best games." Maybe someone sees something super different than you, perhaps someone has less time so F4 is more appealing than NV or perhaps they want NV's story or 3's atmosphere. That's the beauty of the franchise, it's willing to evolve and grow and try something new. It's a bunch of avant-garde games and there's something for everyone like the Metroid series! Are they perfect? Hell no. Is each a great game. Hell yes, and that's beautiful. [link] [comments] |
Just started Fallout 1 and I am overwhelmed with the start. Posted: 04 Jan 2021 11:23 PM PST What are some good character creations to help me? In the first person games I usually have high intelligence and low charisma. Is that recommend here? And if not what are some ways I could make a good character that will survive the wastes? Mama Murphy won’t sit in her chair. Please Help! Posted: 04 Jan 2021 05:03 PM PST I finished fallout 4 for the first time, but now mama Murphy won't sit. When I talk to her, she says she needs her chair. But she's standing right in front of it. Would really like some help. [link] [comments] |
Am I the only one who doesn't play Fallout as a good guy? Posted: 04 Jan 2021 10:46 PM PST I always see alot of posts saying how they try and pick what quest is best from a morality standpoint... and I've never considered that in my playthroughs. I like to play as a jaded, cynical traveler of the wastes who will do almost anything to survive on their own. My character is cn and acts in their own interests; not those of the wastes. They will not be cruel for the sake of cruelty and they will enact justice if they can get away with it but by the end of the day the primary focus is caps. Here are my game rules: 1) Keep any contract you make to protect your reputation. 2) If someone saves your life you owe them a favor 3) Avoid outright murder if possible; it just draws too much attention. 4) Never risk your life without getting paid. Helping a friend (within reason) and rule one are exceptions to this. 5) If you have the option between a fatter paycheck and making the waste a better place pick the former. 6) Be sarcastic to authority figures. 7) Doing anything really evil (like killing kids). 8) If you have enough caps to buy ammo, repair your gear, treat your wounds etc then get drunk, gamble, and spend it on hookers. This is for role playing purposes. 9) If you can do something good at no cost to you do it. 10) Pants are for the weak (I'm kidding; this rule is only for real life). 11) If you can get away with it stealing is fair game. I don't know if anyone else plays like this; it's just my play style. It's usually more pragmatic and amoral than outright evil. Think a mixture of Bronn and Malcolm Reynolds. [link] [comments] |
Fallout 4 mod that allows items to be picked up by new character? Posted: 04 Jan 2021 06:55 PM PST Skyrim has one. Was one ever made for FO4? Because I can't find it or am I overlooking? [link] [comments] |

Can I just state the obvious regarding F3 and F:NV being remastered for console and pc. Posted: 04 Jan 2021 03:26 PM PST Honestly why has Bethesda not done this yet? With the massive amount of times Skyrim was re-released and remastered it amazes me that these games have not been yet. Does Bethesda/Microsoft not seenl the potential pile or cash that could be made ? For now I'm really enjoying Fallout 76 and my return to Fallout 4 but I'm sure as with everybody else who have played Fallout for endless hours like me on console, we would love to see official remasters of these god-tier titles.
