What’s your favourite jaw dropping moment from any fallout?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 08:59 AM PDT

Two that stand out to me are first time arriving in junk town in F1. Seeing the makeshift walls of broken cars, rusted steel, and oil drums immediately make me think of how desolate, desperate, and broken the world is.

The second is leaving the vault in F3. The blinding light fading as your eyes adjust to see the destruction left behind from the bombs was incredible. To me, this was an incredible moment to witness as I grew up with the originals and then seeing this world in 3D was truly mind blowing.

How do you guys feel about the Talking Deathclaws from Fallout 2?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 06:48 PM PDT

The talking deathclaws from F2 are often regarded as a controversial topic to classic Fallout players. People either love them or hate them. Personally, Goris is one of my favorite companions from Fallout 2, and I actually like the talking deathclaws a lot.

One person I met a while ago said their role in the game would've been better served by 2nd generation super mutants. What do you guys think?

Since fallout 3 had synths n mentioned the institute maybe there's a hint for the next threat in fallout 5 mentioned in fallout 4.

One thing that Bethesda did better than Obsidian was making a better post-apocalyptic atmosphere in an open world game

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 09:35 PM PDT

Okay, I know that you all are going to say that Bethesda never understood fallout but that's because of the story what really make Bethesda to understood Fallout was the atmosphere of Fallout 3, NV and 4 and in Fallout 3 they really did understood Fallout for setting it in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C. with a ton of different places that are better than the ones from New Vegas which are old neighborhoods, a city, museums, super markets, larger metros, places of washington d.c. and radio stations.

He asks a question about if you experienced a lot of radiation as a child, and when you say back before the bombs there wasnt much radiation, his reaction is hilarious

    One Life to Live (Fallout 4) {YouTube}

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 05:51 PM PDT

One Life to Live is a series (for YouTube) of which I attempt to beat Fallout 4 (on Survival) with only one life. So far, I have made ten episodes.

There are a few rules. I cannot take advantage of any exploits/glitches. I cannot reload any saves. To keep it as genuine as possible, I do little editing. Everything I do is recorded and published.

I will include a link to the playlist.

"Old World Gold" and the horror of how the Fallout Universe had no sense of Detente

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 10:03 PM PDT

While one can debate ad-nosum of who started the Great War, the Fallout Universe makes it clear that the Great War was being built up for years of even decades prior:

In New Vegas we see constant exmplaration of this in the DLC's with the standout examples being Dead Money and Old World Blues. Chemical weapons the likes of which would make the Soviet Chemical WMD department blush, nigh invincible holograms for use in combat and policing, and and in Lonesome Road it shows that after nuclear attack the sheer quantity of nuclear weapons stored would be at least comparable if not exceeding IRL extremes.

Fallout 3 and 4 both deal with this as well: Megaton's Bomb, the rusting sandblasted hulk that is Rivet City, Liberty Prime, the Enclave's bunker complex, and mobile Airport as well as vast military propaganda / simulators troops where supposed to use. Four has Mini-nuke development, the Chinese submarine which sits strong in the bay for over a hundred years, and of course Synths.

Fallout is a universe where the concept where cold war 'Detente' seems to not be shown and seems to pride itself on that the America we wander through is one marked with a never ending scale increase of a gout-ridden cold war machine set alight.

Now, Detente is something I am not as well versed as others, but the basic idea is as the Cold War dragged on, every decade or so there was major attempts to stop what was slowly realized to be a war that could end humanity via denuclarization and demilitarization such as one shown at Tekoi via the link Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCeMCwxayp0&t=16s

In addition, for reasons that seem heavily connected to the business side of Pre-Apocalypse America, instead of putting energy behind solutions of the oil crisis like investing in different power sources, they instead continue to assert heavier and heavier claims in Alaska and send more and more military to protect it resulting in Anarchage and the eventually the nuclear holocaust that we see in Fallout 4.

Has anyone thought about this before? Is was this obvious and I wasn't seeing it?

No matter the case, "Old World Gold", should terrify everyone. Since I fear more horrors still lie buried out there in the wastelands.

Need help - Fallout4(ps4) keeps crashing in downtown boston

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 03:47 AM PDT

Hey guys I tried everything but the game still keeps crashing when I'm somewhere near to downtown boston. I tried disabling all my mods (only a few for immersive gameplay), different savegames, uninstalled the whole game and reinstalled it, downloaded unofficial patches and it still keeps crashing. I have no freaking clue if there is any way for me to keep the game running in those areas. If anyone of you knows a way how to prevent the game from crashing I would highly appreciate sharing it with me.

(FO4) After clearing my Fallout 4 saves 5 times over due to corruption caused by mods, I got up to a major plot point in the BoS story (Read Description for more info) in just over a hour

In the title, I was referring to the Prydwen arriving in the commonwealth near the end of the "Reunions" quest. I wanted to post this to talk about speed running Fallout 4 and how quickly some people manage to complete the game.

On the fence about Fallout 4, is it worth a buy ?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 03:58 PM PDT

I've played and loved 3 & Vegas, though I hate the shooting mechanics and subway tunnels in 3, I've recently completed new Vegas again twice after a few years of not playing it, I've been looking at 4 but I've only heard bad things and the mine craft town building turns me off quite a bit, but when it comes to fallout I just like sniping people and collecting loot, helping people in need and stuff, 3 let me purify the water, and Vegas let's me save Vegas from being annexed,

From what I've seen 4 has really good shooting mechanics but seems to focus on base building more then anything else, I'm also not a fan that I'm forced to be in a straight relationship with a kid instead of being a blank slate, but despite all this ? Would 4 be the game for me ? Or am I better off re playing 3 considering the last time I played it was over 10 years ago ?

Any suggestions on Xbox one mods for fallout 4?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 10:30 PM PDT

So I was bored and wanted to play Fallout 4 again and I've not messed with mods much. Now I am on Xbox one and I do have all the dlc so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Now for the main part I would love suggestions that change the game in a big way wether that be quest, landscape/foliage, or just the overall experience.

Thanks for any suggestions and taking your time to read this!

I finally finished Fallout 4 after four years!

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 11:22 AM PDT

FYI by "finished", I meant that I finished the last main DLC, Nuka World and Far Harbour. I didn't buy Automation or any of the vault DLC.

Also, I played on PS4 and didn't use mods. I didn't want to create a Bethesda account.

    Preface

Unlike other Bethesda games, I just dipped into Fallout 4 every few months, playing it on and off. I think the only time that I had a sustained time playing it, was when I first bought it.

I finished the main story and side content in early 2017, and then half heartedly started a new character later that year, but I never got far.

I didn't play it all that much for the next two years.

Then in mid-2019, I bought both DLCs. They were on discount on PSN and I had heard good things about them. I thought "ehh why not" and bit the bullet.

I played Far Harbour and really, really enjoyed it. It IS miles better than the base game (story and sidequests!)

Then I ran into a game breaking bug and lost about eight hours of playtime (a character was glitched and wouldn't trigger the dialogue that would finish the DLC. I had been saving religiously. Even so, the Character had vanished several hours earlier and I hadn't noticed. Screw me.)

It completely killed my enthusiasm for the game. So, I dropped it.

Until this summer, when I played Fallout New Vegas and was reminded of its existence.

    The Negative

It took me almost a hundred hours to finish Fallout 4. About 60 or so hours for the main story and world, and about 20 hours for the DLC. Even so, I had far less fun than I had playing New Vegas.

I'm sure you've all heard many of these criticisms before; the terrible dialogue system, removal of skills, middling story, the lack of any great sidequests, and Preston Garvey. I'll briefly address each of these points:

    • The dialogue system: you have a choice between "lame humour", "angry/rude response", or "good/polite response". And most of the time you can't even see the full line. It's very lackluster. I get that it was probably due to the voiced protagonist, but Bethesda could've at least added more variety to your choices and responses.

    • Removal of skills: building your character doesn't matter. Now, your character has to be a cookie cutter archetype. Whether you like it or not. It's all about COMBAT now, not CHARACTER. Charisma is just for dialogue checks that make the game slightly easier, f*ck skill checks in dialogue! As for your choices affecting quests, only one quest in the game utilises your SPECIAL stats at all as a compromise. That's it.

    • Middling story: you play as a young teenager, setting out to look for your father…whoops, wrong game. In this game, you play as a spouse, looking for your son in the Wasteland! Aside from that, nothing in the story really matters. Sure, you can pick a side and kill all of the others at the end, except if you side with the Minutmen. But that's really the only choice you have. The rest of the story is very linear and quite short. No fun sequence breaking like in Fallout 3! I went with the Railroad because I thought Tinker Tom had a few funny lines. That's it. It's way worse than Fallout New Vegas, but it's better than Fallout 3 in my opinion.

    • No good sidequests: All of the sidequests are laughably black and white, or badly written. Now, I'll admit this didn't bother me as much as the other points. There are some fun sidequests that live up to the Fallout name, but not many (Last Voyage of the U.S.S. Constitution). A lot of them are just boring side quests.

    • Preston Garvey. He is boring and annoying and I hate him.

    The Good

Surprisingly enough, there was a lot I actually liked about this game. I just wish it was more cohesive and better put together. To list: The map, the combat, and the companions (except Preston Garvey).

    • The Map: the commonwealth is great. I had a blast exploring it. It's clearly sectioned into different areas. I loved Boston, the coastline, and the glowing sea the most. The cities and towns were great. It was a joy to discover a new place and explore, finding new things and enemies. I also loved the fact that the Commonwealth had a lot of unmarked places. Added variety to exploration.

    • The Combat: I thought the combat gameplay was just decent, but the modding system was amazing. I used many different weapons during my journey. Sometimes I would carry up to five weapons, just so I could have a range of options in dealing with enemies. In the end, I settled on a gauss rifle and the Spray and Pray (a machine gun with explosive rounds.) I loved the options you had for builds and weapons. Best feature of the game.

    • The companions (except Preston): The companions were entertaining and probably had my favourite writing in the entire game. Some of them were more interesting than others (Nick, Deacon and Hancock). But overall, I loved them all and spent a lot of time travelling and questing with each of them.

      The settlement system

I didn't like it, but I heard others did. I found it clunky, and not my cup of tea. But I'm gonna respect the tastes of others and not criticise it. Each to their own.

    The DLC

Far Harbour was great. Nuka World not so much.

Far harbour had great writing and characters, especially if you brought Nick along. The Island was just as well designed as the main map. I give it an 8/10.

Nuka World is decent. The park is interesting, the quests and characters aren't. I enjoyed being a raider and telling Preston to fck off, but aside from that, it was *meh. 6/10.

    In conclusion

I enjoyed my time with Fallout 4, but I wouldn't replay it. I already have plans to reinstall Fallout 3 and replay New Vegas at some point, but never Fallout 4.

It's a damn shame. As we see with Fallout 76, Bethesda has no plans to return to old school Fallout.

But that not's the point. I think that at the end of it, Fallout 4 could've been a great game if Bethesda had just tightened things up and included more variety; Dialogue that actually makes a difference, a better story, more integrated settlement building, and more open quests with more choices.

As it stands, Fallout 4 is just fine. Not bad or good, just fine.

That's all folks. Back to the backlog!

    Fallout: O Z A R K

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 11:25 AM PDT

    https://i.imgur.com/Svg9Jcq.jpg

Here is the second finalized version of my rough draft of a mock-up for a fantasy fallout game. I have this one centered around the area of the Ozark Mountains. In this mock-up I tried to find factors that would make it a unique game experience and separate it from other games in the series so far. I plan on doing a couple more in this series to cover other unique and rather unexplored areas in the fallout universe. There are a lot of cryptids/folklore/mysteries that would resonate well with the series and this is my attempt to explore them. Any criticism is welcome!
